Honestly, I was kind of excited for this place. The menu was interesting and the ambiance was very nice, but the food and service were a little lacking. The server was not very attentive- for example, I asked for the added Brussels, bacon and onions as an add on to the tenderloin tips but I never got them. We also waited a while for drinks and we had our order taken about 30ish minutes after we got there, despite the lack of customers. She was very nice but the service was disappointing. The meat quality however, was really great and both dishes pictured were perfectly cooked, totally recommend the little Jane. But the tenderloin tips left much to be desired literally, because it was not much food at all. For 20 dollars, I would like to feel fullish, but it felt more like an appetizer or tapas than a full meal. The other people in my party got a special (the beef stroganoff) and chicken Alfredo, which both were good, not spectacular. The part that was enjoyable about the pasta dishes however, was the fact that they have different pasta specials, so you could get the Alfredo with linguini or the specialty pasta of the day or week (I don't know which). The pineapple mojito was noteworthy as well, fresh and you couldn't taste the alcohol at all. We've been to Black Sheep Bistro twice recently, and unfortunately both visits were disappointing due to ongoing kitchen and management issues. On our most recent visit, the steelhead trout appetizer was rancid. I mentioned this politely. While the new bartender was professional and tried to make it right by offering a replacement appetizer, it never arrived. Our food then took well over an hour to come out. Although I didn't complain, the bartender noticed the delay and comped a round of drinks, which was appreciated. When the meals finally arrived, my wife's grilled chicken was significantly undercooked. She got a full bite of raw chicken. My lamb had good flavor but was inconsistently cooked, with rare pieces despite being ordered well done. On our previous visit, my mother-in-law ordered the crab cakes. Her meal was served about 25 minutes after the rest of the table, and the crab cakes contained almost no crab. She ultimately did not eat her dinner. She brought this to the manager's attention at the time, and no effort was made to correct the issue. This is now two visits in a row where I've watched family members leave without being able to eat their meals. The bartender clearly understands service, but the kitchen execution and management response are where things are breaking down. I'm sharing this in hopes that ownership or management takes a serious look at consistency, food safety, and follow-through. I asked the waitress about their wine special and waitress states "I don't know if we have that special, I point out the special and the times listed for the special and she stated "I don't know what time it is" I then pointed out the time and let her know it was during the special, what an attitude! I Ordered an appetizer of caprese, and both the cherry tomatoes and basil leaves were shriveled and looked and tasted expired! The mozzarella cheese was a cheese stick cut into 4 pieces. I told the waitress it tasted bad and nothing was done about it. They should have been thrown out but were served to me. My husband ordered the brisket special and the brisket was dry and rubbery like it had been overcooked or reheated. Extremely disappointing. As always, we are noncommittal to a whole entrée each for two people, so we ordered the lamb dunks appetizer and large Caesar salad.... Four generous pours of wine (NO! We do not share this!) and we oh my goodness. All the food prepared was clean and delicious. The lamb chops were tender, juicy and absolutely complemented by the cheese fondue! I wasn't gonna dip my lamb chops in the sauce because it tasted so good on its own but my dining companion said have you put this in the cheese sauce and then I did and oh my God it was just so elevated! The butternut squash and broccoli was cooked to tender perfection and tasted absolutely phenomenal with the cheese sauce dip... And everything stood on its own without sauce as well. That's how you know something is good with or without sauce! So stop eating pizza and burgers and fried food after going to the beach! You deserve something better than that! A little pricey, but worth the investment in yourself. The service was phenomenal. Everyone there was courteous and respectful of our time. Look, I read the reviews; I always read the reviews and especially the negative ones. I imagine this place can get quite busy during the beach season AND everything is made to order. If you want fast, go to Mcdonalds or Starbucks. In the end it wasn't like it was that slow but not everything in life THIS GOOD should be fast. I had a creative bun-less burger called the Sgt Dan. It was delicious - 5 star for sure. I'll be back. Enough variety in the menu to keep it interesting and a gluten free option or two. We are frequent visitors to Black Sheep and are never disappointed. There are other places on the island that claim to be "fine dining", but Black Sheep is the best by FAR. They have four fish dishes that I have tried and enjoyed all of them. Redfish, trout, flounder, and grouper. They always have specials and have enjoyed them as well. This night I had the pork chops and they never disappoint, second or third time to get them. They have a mashed potato of the day, and are good, especially the garlic mashed. The service is so inconsistent. They cater to the locals and ignore those that come in Periodically. I'm a business traveler and come to town at least 1 time per month. Tonight I went in with 2 other people. We were ignored. The manager asked the locals if they needed anything and didn't even offer us a menu or a beverage. We waited for about 5 more minutes and the servers were leaning near the men's room talking. We walked out. Just not acceptable service the staff is always changing here. Secondly, our 1/2 off wine Sycamore Lane Cabernet which was listed at $11.99 (Happy Hour Price) was drinkable but we later found out that this wine retails for $5.99 at Specs...that is just ripping off your diners and left a really bad impression of this rather sub-par dining experience. Our desserts were once again lacking in flavor, we chose Tiramisu and it was bland with no coffee or liqueur flavor which made it just like a sponge cake rather than an awesome Italian dessert!!! We understand restaurants are struggling and can be willing to accept long waits provided the food is good, prices are reasonable for what is offered and prepared as detailed in the menu! We had the pesto pasta with shrimp and the chiefs dish for the evening which was a Copia fish special.
