I have traveled the country experiencing culinary delights but The Bistro of Bowling Green has the best brunch I have ever eaten. The shrimp & grits with jalapeño smoked butter and the pork tortellini carbonara with house smoked pork belly and pecorino cream is a mouth Olympics! You need to try the various mimosa drinks they offer as well as hand crafted cocktails, and huge wine cellar selection. The calamari with roasted garlic romesco is the best starter, also recommend the Brussel sprouts with remoulade and garlic aioli. YOU MUST EAT THERE!! read more

This place is tucked away on a very quiet street but worth a visit. The bar tender is very friendly and takes pride in preparing your drinks. Ask about daily specials. While I was there the martinis were half of Mondays. The menu is simple but very well balanced and the restaurant offers multiple daily specials that are not on the menu. The blackened Mahi Mahi over vegetable rice I ordered was perfect and the portion was just the right size. Don't forget to order spiced coffee after dinner. The bar tender uses bourbon cream to add a great unique flavor to accompany your desert. read more

Took 30+ minutes to get our drinks. Do you really want to wait 30 minutes for a cocktail before dinner? Service was very slow. Took 30 minutes to refill an iced tea. Better late than never? Salmon was like eating a block of salt. Want bread with your dinner? That'll cost you $4 and comes with canola "dipping oil" (not olive oil). Don't worry about having to tip, they added 20% to the bill. But, you have the option of adding an "Additional tip" when you sign your credit card receipt. My first time in Bowling Green. The Bistro was recommended by a friend - and it was awesome. Walkable from the Hyatt next to campus, comfortable atmosphere, nice bar. The menu was varied and the specials sounded great - but I had my heart set on the Carbonara served over ravioli. It was a delightfully zesty Carbonara, just enough salt in the pork, and not overly creamy. I had a great salad to start. I took my wife here and it was our first time for the both of us. We met the hostess near the entrance to get seated. We chose to sit outside. We followed her through the interior of the restaurant and outside on to their back patio. It was spacious with a roof and ceiling fans. The interior was nicely decorated. It was dim, but with great ambience. It was very intimate. This place would be great for special dates and occasions. It was about 90 degrees outside and we were the only ones out there. We enjoy the heat, so it didn't bother us. We had their mussels for an appetizer, which was delicious! The mussels were tossed in a mild to medium spicy curry base broth. For dinner, my wife had the salmon and I had the filet. Both dishes were delicious. The filet was cooked medium just the way I like it. My food was not good, I only took one bite and spit out of in my napkin. it was the special of the day and hence more expensive, $20 for a Grilled Cheese with a small amount of meat on it. It was nasty and cold. The waitress didn't seem to care, she took the plates. We requested a manger. The owner came out and told us we had eaten it all so he would not refund it and was quite rude to us. I told him I had only taken one bite! He rudely said, "Well, you don't have to tell at me!" I had just made a statement, no yelling involved - the situation was finally resolved, however, I'll never return!!! You may make your own decision!!! read more

Adorable little place! Food was great, cocktails were fun and creative. Bacon wrapped dates were good, Dijon chicken was good - a lot of lettuce on this dish, don't need to order salad first (like I did!). Beet salad was yummy, though! My husband had a pasta and added shrimp, again was on lettuce so didn't really need the salad beforehand. We'd definitely go back. Sunday Brunch was beyond disappointing. The My Way "Bacon & Egg" dish should have been a simple execution. Instead, the entire platter was served cold with very undercooked bacon, cold fried eggs, cold potatoes, cold sausage & a cold, dry English muffin. What a surprise finding this place. In town only for a day we surfaced this place here on Yelp and I called in for reservations. The hostess was kind and took my info but warned me they were quite busy. No worries, we prop up at a bar down the street and order some drinks to sip. I get a call from the hostess, that they had a cancellation and I could swing over early. Perfect! The hosting team was proactively working to ensure we had a great experience before we even arrived. We show up and there's a table ready for us with water glasses poured. Emily was our server and her positivity was infectious. She checked in often and was quick with the recommendations. I even had an ingredient question she ran back to the kitchen to get answered before we ordered. We had the rabbit entrée and tortellini carbonara along with some complicated cocktails. The drinks were prompt, delicious, and well executed. My only two nitpicks is the diced squash in my risotto was slightly undercooked and my GF's carbonara was a little too rich. I'm really reaching here though. At the end of the meal the bill came and the meal and service we received was akin to well executed fine dining. Four complicated mixed drinks, an appetizer, two entrees and impeccable service came to far less than I thought it would. I would recommend this place and I hope the owner sees this review and lauds the staff we encountered. Amazing. read more

Great ambience and excellent quality of food with original and unique dishes and specials.

This was the second time my wife and I ate here - 2 years later since we come from the Charlotte area. We made the mistake of having drinks and a snack before coming here to kill time until The Bistro opened - so we were not as hungry as we would have been otherwise - and I would have liked to have been. My wife ordered a glass of Whitehaven Sauvignon Blanc and I tried the Blood Orange Margarita. This margarita is definitely more on the sweet side but I liked it a lot. For an appetizer, we tried the Crab Meat Beignets which were delicious - sauce and herbs that were drizzled on the plate with them really worked. After the appetizer, we tried the Spinach and Arugula salad - the homemade dressing was excellent. For the main entree we shared the Grouper Parmesan - the asparagus was cooked perfectly as was the Grouper, and the two sauces (one being a pesto/butter sauce) served with the dish complimented it well. Service was good, we will likely go to the Bistro again next year when we are in town. read more

The mashed potatoes and asparagus were delightful, however! Bill was (after tax) $97 and we didn't even get drinks (besides the water), no appetizers or desert. The treatment was horrible, we felt mistreated, and with a lot of racism towards everyone. Disappointed, I would not return! In addition, they forced us to pay 26% of the tip, that is very bad... look at the receipt here... We have been here a couple of times. The first time we ordered filet mignon and it was cooked perfect, we like med. rare. The second time we went the server was great and had really good suggestions of appetizers. We ordered the 16 oz ribeye to split as we are not big eaters. The ribeye came out so raw we had to send it back. It came back out just about the same so we just packed it up and brought it home and cooked it for breakfast with eggs for the next morning. Went to the Bistro last night 07/29 to celebrate a very special birthday. It was a wonderful experience from the hostess that greeted us with such an welcoming smile and made us feel like we have been friends for a long time. Amazing food and service. I was in Bowling Green for a conference and had an opportunity to explore the city for food. The restaraunt itself looks to be a house right outside of downtown BG -- super cute. There wasn't a wait and we were seated right away. I ordered the salmon which was a grilled. It came with the "today's special" or side item which I'm guessing changes daily. I also had the crab appetizer that is really popular on their menu. I wanted so badly to give 5 stars, and I was planning to, until having the after-dinner "decaffeinated" coffee! After a series of minor mistakes that the waitress made (none too big of a deal), she served us "decaffeinated" coffee, that after drinking I quickly discovered was indeed very caffeinated. Upon drinking it at 8pm, I was wide awake until the wee hours of the morning, with a long, early day ahead of me. Mixing up a food order or getting the wrong cocktail are innocent mistakes, but messing with people's sleep schedules is akin to playing with fire. Writing this the next morning after barely getting any sleep, I am rather perturbed. Waitress aside, the restaurant was surprisingly great! It looks very humble on the outside, to the point that I considered not going in, but I am glad I continued on. The artichoke fritters appetizer were delicious and the duck confit was one of the best best I have ever had. I highly recommend the duck to anyone visiting here. I wasn't a huge fan of their spins on classic cocktails, but I appreciate the creativity, and the sazerac was very good. If you want to escape the crowds of downtown and have a delicious meal, come here! read more

Yesterday for my birthday Crystal and I had lunch at The Bistro in Bowling Green, KY, for the very first time based on a recommendation. The restaurant is located in a building from the later 1890's and the decor & ambience are warm, inviting, and ever so interesting. Crystal ordered their fish & chips which was delicious and not your typical fish and chips. It was delicious and ever so much more than anticipated! I had their vegetarian dish with an awesome peanut sauce. I could not get enough of it. It was amazingly delicious!! By the way. If you like fries and ketchup you MUST have them at The Bistro as they have a secret "curry based" ketchup that is so good I asked to take some home! When we left, Crystal and I decided to take a selfie out front as we enjoyed our lunch and the staff so much. A young lady whom I believe to be the owner or manager came out to the street to ask us if we wanted to have our picture taken! Absolutely a 5-Star restaurant with diner prices! Our entire lunch, which really was like a large dinner meal was only $26! We were so impressed with the food, the staff, and the atmosphere that we will travel from Nashville again just to experience The Bistro again! Back in Bowling Green again so we had to try The Bistro for a third time, and were happy to be there. The Crab Beignets were as good as we remembered and the rest of the meal hit the mark. The ambience remains pleasant and service was stellar. My Sazerac didn't have the same zing as last year, but I have taken to making them myself at home so perhaps the novelty has worn off. I'm looking for an excuse to visit Bowling Green more than once in 2019 so we can try The Bistro again sooner. read more

What a great experience! We chose this placed based on reviews, and we were not disappointed. It's in a beautifully renovated old house, so had some history, which we always enjoy hearing about. The food was fantastic. Lovely wines (I had the Coppola Pinot Noir- which was delicious!) but there were plenty of choices. My husband ordered the fish special and he said is was very good- with a lightly crisped finish, it looked awesome. I ordered the fillet, and it was outstanding- perfectly medium rare, exactly as ordered. It was paired with garlic mashed potatoes and broccolini, both were very good. We finished off by sharing their salted Carmel cheesecake- also top-notch. Our server was friendly, and efficient and didn't hesitate to answer questions or recommend her favorites. I didn't realize I'd been to Kentucky before, however I already was licensed to work here so I must have been. That speaks to my impressions, or lack there-of, and what I expected coming back. This time however I happened to land myself a sweet little spot in a college town in the south-western corner, Bowling Green, Kentucky. This place is young and lively, and though I haven't had the chance to really take in the youthful scene it is plainly apparent and pouring out onto many streets as I drive to and fro every morning and afternoon. Because of how much I'm working I've done everything I can to save time, so when I saw The Bistro just across the street from my AirBnB it wasn't a hard sell. I took a seat at the bar and, as always, introduced myself to the bartender. The food is amazing, high dining just barely affordable enough to justify eating there every day following it's discovery. The food is both traditional and unique, taking well accustom dishes and bending them just beyond what you'd expect for some pretty fantastic results. But, for me what really makes this place special is the magician behind that oaken counter: Jasmin. He's a tall, bald, Bulgarian man with a thick accent. His constant berating of both staff and customers alike could almost be mistaken as cruel thanks to the heavy Eastern European accent. He makes drinks for people without asking, changes their order without permission, and always gives the faintest smile at the end of telling you off to remind you that it's all a jest. Like the food his cocktails are always a unique twist on a beloved classic, a feat all the more impressive given that he doesn't drink. The things he says are so outrageous and hilarious I started jotting them down, so here's a few gems from Jasmin: "In your country you have tornado, you build house with stick! In my country, no tornado, we build house with brick. Tank shoots house, you have hole, but house is still standing." "You don' like ketchup? Get the fuck out!" "Mayo on everything, put mayo on the bread is my favorite sandwich" "Last time I leave and go to my country, nine-eleven happen two days later I was in New York, I say no more leaving!" "No have restroom, only tree out back." The woman next to me ordered a wine spritzer and tasted it, "This isn't what I ordered" - "No, is what I made." Went here the first time for a Sunday brunch. WOW! We almost passed it up due to it being a furnished home. The inside was fabulous! I had the Bistro salad. It was the best salad I've ever eaten. To give an update on how many salads I've had in restaurants I'm 73, so I've had more than a few. It was delicious! My wife had the Benedict I think it was called. It was eggs over English muffins with a gravy sauce that contained good size shrimp. To give an idea how she liked it, upon leaving she told me we will definitely be back. That told me a lot.
