Out of towners, this restaurant was recommended to us - and we were glad we listened! Hubs birthday, and they had pot roast AND meatloaf, both of which he loves. But he's also picky about both.... went with the pot roast and loved it. Loved it. They served It over mashed potato's, which were just perfect. Creamy and steamy. Stopped in here this morning and was seated right away. Quickly noticed that no one was wearing masks and didn't see any other precautions taken. However, that's not the worse. We sat for 15 minutes and never received the drinks we ordered. No one took our meal order, even after promises of "we'll be right with you" on several occasions. Was ignored for 20 minutes - party of 3 - people clearly saw us - staff walked within a few feet of us multiple times - not one word. No we will be right with you - NOTHING! The food was excellent. I had the chicken salad sandwich with the tomato bisque soup. My husband had the supreme pizza. Only complaint would be the service. My husbands pizza was brought out fairly quick but my food came about 15 minutes later. He was just about done when I first got started. I don't mind the wait but would rather have food brought out at same time. Had to ask for drink refills. Asked another server for the check as ours never came back to ask if we wanted or needed anything else. She gave my husband the check and stood over him as he looked at the check and was trying to figure out a tip. Very uncomfortable feeling. My husband and I love this place. The pot roast is absolutely killer. The pizzas are always good too! We eat here or get it to go probably once a week. Just had twins, so eating out is more frequent for us now. I've never been disappointed with our food or service. Everyone is extremely nice and take care to get to know you; being local, this is important to me. Very relaxed atmosphere, I don't feel uncomfortable bringing my 4 year old or newborn twins here. This is an ideal place for a Sunday brunch. It has a rustic decor that is welcoming and comfortable. The building has a historic feel that is palpable and the pictures of it on the wall in its yesteryear finest only drive home the point. It even has a small corner shopping area featuring soaps and creams and assorted nice smelling things. But as I always caution, none of that amounts to squat if the food doesn't deliver. Fortunately this Bistro delivered for the most part. As soon as we were seated someone who I took to be the owner approached the table and instructed us that we were going to be guinea pigs for her new donuts soon to be featured on the menu. Minutes later four delicious donuts were brought to our table still warm and they were excellent! I was sold on this place and hadn't spent a dime! Shortly thereafter our waitress delivered the first of several "bottomless" bloody marys. They were fantastic and featured a veritable garden of edible garnishes including a piece of bacon. The fried green tomatoes and seafood chowder were both fantastic. The entrees were less fantastic. My wife felt the chicken in the chicken salad was a bit hard, not tender chunks of chicken meat. My burger was excellent on the second go around but the first one came out well done when the temp requested was medium rare. They were very prompt and apologetic and handled the situation well. My friend had a flat bread which he loved. It was a very nice dining experience with a few hiccups but certainly nothing to deter me from visiting the next time I am in the neighborhood. read more

This is such a cute place! I love the ambiance. It is place you can go to have a date or just hang out with friends. The service was okay. They were nice, but they don't check on you very often. You just have to get their attention when they walk by. When I was done, I just got up and went to the register to pay my check. I tried the roasted vegetable flatbread. I added bacon and feta cheese. It was ok. Not that flavorful. It would have been very bland without the bacon. I also ordered a slice of red velvet cake. The server had me excited because she said it was really good. Another server told me the pieces were pretty big. This was the worse red velvet cake I have ever tasted. It was uber dry and almost grainy. And the size of the slice certainly wasn't worth $5. The best thing about my first experience was the atmosphere. The food was okay. The dessert needs some work. I can't believe this place got as many stars as it did.. The Rising Sun Bistro. I went there on Sunday 22nd July to pick up a prize I won from a drawing The item was at the Rising Sun Bistro so I went there I was hungry so I thought I would stay and have some brunch. They opened at 10 I got there at 10:25 did not get my food till very very close to 11 AM. I was extremely disappointed as it took 35 minutes to get my pretty small hamburger smaller than my fist it came with a slice of cold cheese on top of my bacon & grilled onions and over all it and it was pretty naked chunk of overcooked meat when it was all said and done. It came with some bland sauteed zucchini yellow and green. Now I must admit I'm quite a food snob because I am a chef. However when you serve someone a burger it should be bigger than your fist & when it comes with cheese it absolutely must be melted on the burger. Not just laid over the top of the onions, bacon and burger. It must be on the burger and it must be melted then you lay the bacon on then you lay on the grilled onions. When it came to me I asked them to please take it back and melt the cheese the cheese was cold & just laying over the top of the bacon and onions that were on the burger. I had to ask them two times to go and melt the cheese twice!! And when I ask her for some lettuce and tomato which should come with every burger she acted as if she was doing me a favor by giving it to me. It's lettuce and tomato! And she was like I'm sorry I just don't know what you want me to do she said that to me. Really!! Finally it came back by then the vegetables were cold the burger was overcooked and the bacon was burnt. Now first of all if somebody sends a burger back to the kitchen the first time fix it up right but if it comes back twice you really should just remake the whole thing and do it correctly!! Should never have to send anything back a second time..EVER.. Oh and at that point you should make sure you toss those vegetables back in the hot skillet and warm them again. I ate the food, I paid for the food and I left. Again very disappointed with the whole experience and will not go back. I do not recommend this place maybe something else on the menu would have be better but the burgers seriously need work as do the attitudes of those who work there!! When I left I went to the coffee shop around the corner there were people at the coffee shop talking about the restaurant as well and not in a good light. I'm not sure what's going on with the restaurant but I would say eat there at your own risk & take the chance if you want I didn't have a good experience. read more

I'm so impressed with this little gem in this little town. If you thought Brooksville had nothing to offer in class, cuisine or culture, Rising Sun Bistro will prove you wrong. I was drawn to the outdoor seating area and inviting window front decorated in old world Christmas charm, urban farmhouse-esq style. Let's just say I wouldn't be surprised if Joanna Gaines designed it herself...It's trendy and rustic with a variety of tables for small and large groups. I especially liked the booths for two. I loved the old refurbished bar, exposed brick and duct work. For the food, we actually only ordered coffee, tea and desert. My father said the coffee was delicious. We ordered peanut butter pie and carrot cake; both made from scratch. They were so delicious! The servings were huge and the price was minimal $3 and $5, respectively. It appeared they offered breakfast and lunch daily, but dinners only on Thur, Fri and Sat; ranging from $12-$15 per entree. I will definitely go back and try the Bourbon Bacon Meatloaf. The service was friendly and fast, but calm. Employees were warm and genuine. I seriously love this place! read more

I'm not sure what happened to my once favorite restaurant in Brooksville. When I first moved here in 2015, I fell in love with the quaint atmosphere and unique menu. The few hiccups in service were easily overlooked because the food was hot and fresh. The past 4 times I've been here, it's gotten progressively worse with the final straw being this past Saturday evening. We strolled in at 7:40 for dinner after visiting the Blueberry Festival. We seated ourselves as the sign instructed. It was not very crowded and many tables were available. After 10 minutes of sitting, the young waitress came by and gave us menus. We stopped her from dropping them and leaving and had her take our drink orders- 2 waters, 1 Coke, 1 blueberry lemonade. She returned with the drinks 10 minutes after that then began to walk away again. We encouraged her to take our orders. The menu was limited due to Blueberry Fest, so the usual fare was not an option. We ended up ordering 3 Bistro Burgers and 1 BLT. Easy enough, right? So 25 minutes more pass and our waitress returns and was surprised we hadn't gotten our meals yet. She said she'll go check on the order. After 15 minutes, she returns and says our order was lost, and that they no longer have the Bistro Burger available. We're now 60 minutes from when we first sat down and only have drinks to show for it. I just asked her to bring us the bill for the 2 drinks which weren't water and we'd be leaving. At that point, as a gesture to try to set things slightly right, she should have comped the drinks and called it a wash. No, she brought the check for $4.79 and stood there while we looked for cash as to not have to wait longer for a credit card to be charged. I'm so sorry that this relationship can't last. I really think some good quality customer service and training is in order. Best of luck. read more

Cane in for a quick appetizer with my mother and daughter. The place looked super quant bistro with a little store. Boy was I highly wrong. The front sign started seat yourself and every table was dirty. Took the server no lie 5 mins to come clean off a take table for us then additional 5 mins to even bring us a menu. Thank God for yelp. I pulled up a menu. The server brought our drinks and food and never returned!!!! No refills, not to see if we were on. Checked other tables because I watched her.
