Saw this as I drove down 2nd street and wanted to give it a try. Staff is so friendly and it really feels like a comforting place to eat. I had the Bison Ravioli (which was a special), the meat was delicious and the pasta tasted homemade. It also came with a fancy Caesar salad. The appetizers were great, full of variety and very flavorful. The desserts were satisfying and also tasty. I really like restaurants for their ambience and this one hit the spot. Each room in the house has a limited number of tables so it never feels crowded. Would recommend reserving a table online (very convenient). Can't wait to come again and try more of the specials! We had an absolutely fantastic meal here and have now become super fans of this adorable restaurant in downtown Monument. We started with bacon wrapped dates and the Caesar which were both tasty. As a warning the dates were super rich as expected given that they were stuffed with blue cheese and wrapped in a thick deliciously fatty strip of bacon. I had the filet mignon with mushrooms and onions which was cooked to absolute perfection. My husband tried the red snapper special which was also excellent. The restaurant is quiet so that we had a nice relaxing dinner. The ambiance is cute and feels very cozy inside particularly on a cold winter evening. The service was excellent. This may be my new favorite restaurant in Colorado Springs/monument area. We'll be back! read more

This has been a hit and miss spot for us. Tonight it was fantastic!!! Our friends had the trout and salmon dishes which they loved. We had the lobster/shrimp ravioli which was delicious, the garlic bread was crazy good and the wedge salad was perfect. I gave it four stars because our previous visits have been inconsistent. Most notably our last night there was mediocre. Though the time previous we had a good meal. The service has always been great and the atmosphere is wonderful. So we'll keep trying:) read more

Oh yes:) This place was pretty delish! Went with a large group, and it's kinda cute in there. It looks like an old house they re did in to a restaurant and I believe a man and his wife own/bartend there. We had the Charcuterie board, stuffed dates and bacon wrapped pineapple, and the cheese board. They were all awesome!!! Darn if I can remember what I ate for dinner....besides all the wine:) I remember it being delicious, though if that helps:) I'm going to say one thing, though. The guy/probable owner was kinda skeevy. He made a couple innocent-ish "adult" jokes because there were a bunch of women there, and some laughed (remember all the wine?), but he kept upping the anty until it became a little gross. read more

Wife and I went in for a lunch date. Very cool environment with the Bistro in an old house. We sat upstairs next to a window overlooking the patio and Main Street. We went for dinner. I had very high expectations given the location and the pricing. We had an appetizer plate which came with various cheeses, meats, crackers, and olives. It was great except that one of the cheeses, a cheddar I think, really looked old and hard, otherwise, it was delicious. I was pretty underwhelmed by my dinner entree, I had the scallop special. I have no idea how the scallops were cooked, no searing or grill marks on them, but they were decent. My entree came with pasta in some sort of a cream sauce, which was lacking in any flavor at all. There did not seem to be any seasonings on the entire entree, but I was so hungry I wolfed it down! My spouse had the surf and turf Mac n cheese which looked really great, he said it was delicious and I did steal a bite of macaroni which had a great taste. The wait staff are terrific and quite pleasant. The restaurant itself is in the old Wisdom Tea House, so it is really quaint and adorable. I will try it again though since my spouses meal was very good, appetizer was spot on, wait staff are great, and the location is perfect. I'm hoping for a better tasting meal next time. read more

Unfortunately my referral to this adorable Bistro must have been from a "Big Mac Lover"! Ewwwww! We walked in from the rear and the owner was sitting on a patio chair smoking and chit-chatting on a phone. Sorry, but I really don't want to smell smoke as I walk into a new food establishment. Go around the corner and smoke!! As mentioned in another rating the tables/chairs were a combination of 1950's Goodwill diner furniture and dented/unpainted Walmart markdowns. Dirty too! I know it is the end of winter but I am sure someone can take a leaf blower and clean it up a bit........after all, first impressions! We are talking 15 minutes to make a huge difference! Absolutely darling inside which is part of my 2 star bump up (almost a one star rating!). We ordered the stuffed dates and these should have rocked it. My advice to the chef? You don't take a 1" stuffed date and wrap it with extra thick & wide slab bacon. The bacon was soooo undercooked (raw!!!) and I truly felt like I was eating a pork scallopini tar-tar wrapped around a raisin! Slice thin and narrow strips of bacon or replace it with a thin Prosciutto. Now comes the main course. Set your parking brake! Chef must have been watching Paula Deene too much. Who on god's green earth places a 1/2" of mayonnaise on a piece of salmon and broils it? Not to mention, the salmon was pre-cooked so the broiling resulted in overcooking and a dry piece of cold fish. The side of fresh Haricot Vert with sundried tomatoes was al dente and fresh. A little more seasoning would have make this the bomb side but gotta say, the highlight to the evening. The Black Cod would have benefited from a quick char and seasoning. I would have preferred to not to have the 2 day old saffron rice on my plate. Dry lump of yellow "yuck". Try a porcini risotto or just try making something fresh. I watched an employee carrying out a vat of "slaw" or "macaroni" or something to their storage area which housed older looking residential grade refrigerators in the garage to the rear of the building. Not the end of the world unless the refrigerators are not keeping proper temperature. The wait staff was spot on! I will try it one more time. I will march to the kitchen and grab the chef by the ear if I'm not happy. Come on people, we need something in the area where we rush to put our shoes on and run to the car to go have a great dining experience. read more

This resto makes it unnecessary for Monument folk to drive to Colorado Springs or Castle Rock to eat something decent. It is consistent. The staff is superb, though they insist on calling everyone "Mr." or "Missus." It's probably a management order. I prefer just being called just Raul, other than Mr. Espinosa. They need to shake the winelist up more often and put in a few more exotics. In that regard they did have a Baja California Mexican wine and a tasty little Portuguese Dao a year back. Very rude owner. My wife and I had reservations for 8/26 for a very special occasion. We get there and the owner can not find the reservation and starts acting like we are making it up that we had a reservation. I show him my phone that I called on 7/20 at 7:31PM and was on the phone for three minutes. The owner basically calls us liars and says, that doesn't mean you made a reservation. We have never been treated so rudely at a restaurant before. Not once did he apologize or take any ownership whatsoever for making a mistake, even after showing him proof of the call. We understand mistakes happen but there is no reason for a business owner to act like this. We will never set foot in this small business again after being treated so rudely. read more

My friends ate and were presented with the bill for them to pay. Ruined my gift. Went to the restaurant and spoke with the manager - she apologized but said that the only thing that she could do is reverse their charge and put it on my credit card. Bottom line, I looked incompetent, my friends were confused at being charged for my gift, and the manager stressed that it wasn't her fault and there was nothing that she could do. read more

Wow!! What a wonderful discovery. We( wife and I) had driven past the restaurant on our way to our granddaughter's house many times but it was not meal time. Today we passed by and decided to stop. We sat on the patio and were greeted by the staff in a very friendly manner. Interesting lunch menu with very different choices. I recommend the crab cakes and the Brie fig bites. Also, a wine list with affordable wines and special upscale wines. My wine recommendations are the Prisoner cab and the Rombauer Chardonnay. Our waiter, Jeff, was very friendly and efficient as well as attentive without being a pest. We also had a chance to meet co-owners Steve and Lindy Gerard. Very nice people and interested in our opinion of the food,service and menu. A great unexpected experience that my wife and I(of 55+years) will remember for a long time. In a word: Fantastic. In several words: quite possibly the best, most creative, food you'll find right now in Monument. A three-time Gazette "Best Waiter" award winner, proprietor Rick Velliquette has landed on the Monument culinary scene like a meteorite with this, his freshman effort at actually owning an eatery. The location couldn't have been more perfect, too; the Wisdom Tea House was already a graceful and serene environ for any food or drink business, it being a short walk from my front porch certainly helps :-) We've had various appetizers, sandwiches, and of course the bacon-wrapped bison meatloaf, and every single experience has been fantastic. The meatloaf in particular is encircled with thick-cut peppered bacon and glazed with some sweet, thick moonshine reduction; every morsel just melted in my mouth and made me wish I had a bigger stomach. We did notice during our visits that they seem to run out of some of their seafood entrees early, so adjust expectations accordingly: those dishes are insanely popular. I can't close out this review without mentioning how sweet and cheerful and fun the staff were. We were seated quickly, the food arrived promptly, our every request was fulfilled as though we were royalty. Major kudos to everyone there, you made our meals just that much more perfect. My wife and I allow for a pretty steep learning curve for new businesses, and this amazing establishment didn't require it. I called and asked if they have a full bar. Receptionist said no, they do not. Clearly she didn't know what that meant. Sam the waitress was awesome!!! The Seabass had a fish taste to it, think it was not fresh. Mac and cheese noodles were mushy. Lobster was ok, did not melt in my mouth. The ambience is wonderful! Staff friendly! The soup was vegetable gnocchi was good, however, gnocchi over cooked. People next table over said crab cakes were good. read more

We just moved to the area so wanted to check out a new place and ended up at the Bistro on 2nd. Everything was great until our entrees came out. My partner got the elk at medium rare which he always does and when it came to us it was completely raw where it was mushy and not appealing. Our waiter finally came back and he promptly took it to get it cooked more, but weirdly came back out in less than a minute. He left and while it was more cooked it was about half the amount of meat as before. So we we're thinking we got half of someone else's order and asked and he just said it could of shrieked when cooked more. I do understand that but he literally came back in less than a minute. My pasta was great so it just sucks that we feel like we got screwed with the amount of meat we got. read more

Since moving here I've noticed the foodie scene is null. I was excited to give this place a try. To be fair- I tried this place twice for lunch. First time the sandwich was just horrible- chunks of cold Brie on cold bread. Second time we had the bison burger- that was actually very good- however our side was a bunch of cut up cucumbers and onions?? Not good. We tried the peppermint cheesecake which was very thick- tasted like pure cream cheese- and little peppermint flavor. I was so disappointed. My husband wanted to leave a note about the food- but I'm an avid yelp reviewer, so I wanted to share this experience. Service was good- but food is pricey and not worth it. read more

My friend and I arrived for happy hour we did not have a reservation. When we arrived there were three tables with people and one outdoor sofa with a couple seated in the entire venue. They made it clear they didn't have room for us because we didn't have a reservation. After some cajoling they reluctantly sat us on the "deck" which was a corner table by the back door next to the highchairs. When seated I asked for the adjacent table just to give my friend a little more room. They stared at us and said, "that table is reserved." Okay, fine, we took the highchair corner table. An hour and a half later after two marginal drinks (martini and a vodka soda...both tasted like water) the other three tables had left and one arrived. Nobody ever showed up for the adjacent "reserved" table either. Booked? Really? Monument isn't that exclusive that you hold every table in the place for a "reservation" for the entire evening. This was a random Wednesday night, not even a weekend. We won't be back and I've told countless friends in Monument of our experience encouraging others to be aware of the "reservation" system they have in place for happy hour. read more

I went here with husband and adult son for my birthday dinner. The place is quaint and cozy. I was happy to be warm instead of freezing to death like in most restaurants. Our server was friendly-maybe over friendly- but he gave good service making sure we liked everything. We got the Maryland crab cake appetizer. They were good but I'm from Maryland and I don't think they passed the test to be called Maryland. Maryland crab cakes are exclusively big lump crab meat barely held together with filling. These did not use lump meat but the flavor was there. The fact that our server was attentive came in handy when both my husband's and son's stuffed salmon came out way underdone. The table next to us sent their salmon back too so I'm not sure what was going on with the chef. He finally came out with 2 wonderful stuffed salmon dishes. Husband and son enjoyed it. Meanwhile, I received my lobster ravioli and finished it before their second salmons came out. I wasn't as thrilled with my dish. The ravioli came out in a deep bowl which really made it difficult to cut and eat the raviolis. The sauce was thin which is why they needed a bowl. I would have preferred a creamier sauce and a plate. I had high hopes for these but the flavor wasn't there. There was not nearly enough lobster in them. I was thinking these would have been made on site but I think they are sourced elsewhere. They were too uniform to be handmade. I don't think this dish was worth the price. I've bought lobster ravioli at Costco and cooked it myself that tasted better. For the price I think a small salad would have been an appropriate side. This place is nice but I don't know if we will come back. The prices are a bit high for the quality and quantity of food. I'm a really good cook so we rarely eat out, and I have to be wowed to pay that much for something I can make myself. I can make most of the entrees on their menu except fresh ravioli which is why I ordered it, only to be underwhelmed. read more
