Menu was varied and interesting with some specialties, sandwiches, and salmon. Prices were fair for these times. I had the strawberry goat cheese salad and the baked dinner rolls with sweet butter. Enjoyed it all. My husband had the burger with fries. He said both were very good. I'd like to try the bacon crusted salmon or the gnocchi next time. We did not have dessert. Service was friendly, helpful, and efficient. This is a tiny gem in Uptown. They've been open about a year. I hope people will discover and enjoy it like we did. I think a small candle on each table would add an inviting element to go along with the pretty fresh flower centerpieces. This place can also comfortable accommodate groups.

But I've learned that if I order my steaks rare or even blue rare at a place not known for their steaks, it comes out to the desired medium rare I wanted all along. Such was the case tonight. I asked for rare but it came out closer to medium rare--maybe even dipping into medium. No big whoop. The baseball steak was still juicy and delicious. The fries were still great shoestring. And I can live with a chimichurri sauce instead of the preferable hollandaise or bearnaise these usually come with. I just wish I could actually ask for a medium rare and get medium at a food joint other than where it costs me $60 or $70 a cut. The service was good. She was pleasant and quick on her feet. The ambience was good. It was a quaint space and had a lot of charm. I can't say it was too full but I attribute that more to the day being full of sporting events like the World Cup and some silly NBA thing than an actually critique of the restaurant. Subsequently, I found this a good place for dinner but not superb and I found myself wondering when the next like fate might bring me here.

It was lovely because it felt so intimate and we got to catch up even with the warm weather. We started with bacon wrapped dates and a Caesar salad. These were so refreshing and those dates were the perfect combination of salty and sweet. The Caesar salad had plenty of parmesan and the romaine was crisp. We also ordered the Mac n cheese, the steak with chimichurri, and sweet potato fries. The steak was perfectly cooked and tender, the Mac n cheese was creamy and ooey from the cheese, and the sweet potato fries were crisp too. It all paired nicely and was split between 5 of us. We all ordered white wine as well because it was warm. We also ordered the flour less Mexican souffle and brioche French toast for dessert. They were the great ending to our meal. The service was awesome too and our waitress gave us plenty of time to decide and checked in. I definitely recommend coming here. If you can, make a reservation ahead of time. We got seated pretty quickly because we opted for a table outside.

Phlight in Whittier, A True Local Gem!…read more Phlight in Whittier is a staple for our family, and every visit reminds us why we love supporting this wonderful, locally owned and family-run restaurant. From the moment you walk in, you feel the hospitality. This family genuinely loves what they do, and you can taste that love in every dish they serve. Phlight specializes in tapas-style, shareable plates, and when I say you really can't go wrong with anything on the menu, I mean it! Everything we've ever ordered has been delicious. They also have an impressive wine selection, available by the glass or bottle. And if you're a Bordeaux fan, be sure to try their own-label Bordeaux, it is absolutely delicious and pairs beautifully with the food. Last night's dinner was another home run. We started with our go-to Yuzu Caesar Salad, incredible! Tangy, fresh, and such a delicious take on a classic Caesar. We also had the sweet potato fries with their aioli dipping sauce, which are always a must. We each ordered a taco, shrimp and pork belly, and both were SO good. Then we shared the paella, which was absolutely delicious. Some of the portions were generous enough that our party of two had to take some home... and honestly, I'm already looking forward to those leftovers! Phlight has also recently relocated to Greenleaf Avenue, and they have done an incredible job with the new space. It's beautiful, welcoming, and feels like a wonderful evolution of a restaurant that was already special. And the service? Still completely on point. Oh, and the music is always on point too! If you're ever in Whittier or anywhere in the surrounding area, do yourself a favor and make a stop at Phlight. Come hungry, order a few plates to share, try a glass of wine, and enjoy the experience. Phlight is one of those local businesses you're proud to support...great food, great wine, great music, and most importantly, a genuinely wonderful family behind it all. #Phlight #Whittier #WhittierEats #SupportLocal #FamilyOwned #LocalGem #Tapas #SoCalEats #Foodie

When we arrived, the hostess notified us that they were accepting walk ups and reservations didn't matter. We waited over an hour to be seated. Initially, they sat us separately at two booths. This is unacceptable on Mother's Day when we were trying to celebrate our Grandmother. Thankfully, our waiter was able to clear a spot on the patio. Following being seated, the waiter did not come. I got up and asked if they could come to our table because we have two diabetic family members. The host I spoke with said he would send someone, but there was some attitude. Our waiter came and was kind, but the whole experience has been awful. We waited over an hour and twenty five minutes after being seated for our food to arrive, and they didn't bring it all out at once. My pancakes ended up having a hair in them and had to be sent back. We have since asked for a manager to come to the table 2x, and they have not come. I would not recommend this restaurant to anyone. It has ruined our last Mother's Day with our grandmother before she moves away later this year. Over two hours wasted total waiting to be seated and for our food to arrive.

We came on a Saturday night at 6 and the wait for 3 was 30-45 mins. (2 adults and a 10 month old)…read moreNo problem! I had to go to the bathroom and when I walked thru the restaurant there were a lot of empty tables. Odd that there would be a wait. There was a table for 4 near the front door, without a reserved sign on it, and it was empty the entire time we waited. We were finally seated and they put us at a table for two. Meanwhile, that table for 4 was still empty. I'm not sure if you've ever spent time with a 10 month old, but clearly the hostess hasn't. They are grabby and want to explore everything they can possibly get their hands on, including hot plates on a table. Luckily, our server knew this and when a large party in the restaurant left, she brought us one of the 2 person tables they'd been using. Fortunately it also aligned with when our food was coming out so we didn't have to worry about our baby burning her hands on the plates put down on our table with a "they're hot" warning. The kitchen was really slow. I'm not sure if they were backed up, but with the amount of empty tables, they really shouldn't have been. It took at least 20 minutes for us to get our appetizer after we ordered it, which was the chile verde fries. Luckily, all of the food made up for the previous paragraphs and is the reason for 4 stars instead of 3. The Chile verde fries were so good! Not too spicy, a great balance of fries, meat, sauce, and cheese. The egg was a nice touch and made the dish feel like chilequilles with fries instead of chips. We also ordered a 3 meat plate with pulled pork, brisket, and tri tip. The pulled pork was pretty standard. The brisket was falling apart delicious and I liked that it didn't have a ton of fat in it. It was interesting that the tri tip had grill marks on it, I don't think I've ever seen that before, but it was very soft and delicious as well. For our sides we got the collard greens and mac and cheese. The collards were very high in vinegar, something we aren't used to, but my husband enjoyed them. The mac and cheese was really good! You can tell they use fresh cheeses as opposed to velveta. The garlic bread was good and really flavorful, but I do wonder why other tables around us seemed to get 2 slices per person and we got 2 slices total. Not a big deal tho, just found it odd. Overall, we really liked Steve's and will be back, as well as recommend it to people. We'll just make sure to have a reservation before we go, and maybe make it for a party of 4 to ensure we get a good sized table.

I think it could feed *at least* 5-6. I would def recommend if ya'll can agree on the sides. I love Mac n cheese, I mean who doesn't, but if you're that one weirdo than opt for something else. The Mac isn't the best I've had but it's worth a try. The meats are delicious, except for the chicken. For some reason I wasn't really impressed with the chicken. Service was pretty good and easy parking in the back. After lunch or dinner take a stroll in uptown and check out the shops. Overall Steve's is solid and I'll go back.
