We have been here before and brought some friends who were first timers. Brian was our server. He is top notch. Welcomed us and was very attentive. He gave great suggestions to our friends and they will definitely be back. The food was delicious everything just popped with flavor and cooked just right. Brian even made us a fresh pot of coffee. The only thing that bothered us was the smell. As soon as you walk in from the street it smelled like an odd bad odor we couldn't pin point it. When we entered the dining area it wasn't as bad but we can still smell a faint odd smell, Not sure if they are having sewage issues but it is noticeable when you stand up. I'm honestly very disappointed. We ordered delivery from what used to be one of our favorite local restaurants. Three years ago, we dined here and had an amazing experience, which is why we were excited to order again. Unfortunately, this meal was one of the worst restaurant experiences we've had. I ordered the pork ribs and fried shrimp. The ribs were extremely dry--so dry that they tasted like they had been cooked days earlier and reheated multiple times. They were nothing like the ribs I remembered from previous visits. After just a few bites, I started feeling uncomfortable. The fried shrimp was equally disappointing. It had almost no flavor at all and tasted bland and uninspired. My husband ordered the burger, which was advertised as a blend of Wagyu and regular beef. We were expecting something special, but the patty lacked flavor and the quality was disappointing. What surprised us even more was that we live only five minutes away, yet the burger bun arrived completely soggy. The packaging was also poor. The food came in cheap plastic containers without any ventilation holes. For fried foods especially, proper packaging is important to prevent steam from ruining the texture. It felt like very little care was put into preparing the order for delivery. To make matters worse, both my husband and I experienced stomach discomfort and excessive gas afterward, and we were still feeling it the next day. What makes this experience especially disappointing is that this was my husband's birthday dinner. I chose this restaurant because of the wonderful memories we had here years ago, but the food quality was nowhere near what we remembered. I genuinely cannot understand how food of this quality was considered acceptable to send out to customers. I rarely leave negative reviews, but this experience was so disappointing that I felt compelled to share it. We came here for a BIRTHDAY CELEBRATION and he made reservations for 8 people at 7pm on Saturday. There's a SECRET password to actually get into the restaurant. We were taken to our seat which was a NICE private seating with its on TV screen. It has a nice wall which made it sound a bit quieter but, then the waiter came and said OOPS sorry we gave you the wrong seats and so we were taken to the SEATS near the restroom and it was so LOUD... 2 orders TOMAHAWK: 10/10 The food was EXCELLENT!!! OMG the CORN TORTILLAS was the best I've ever had!!! I would just be so happy to have the CORN TORTILLAS but, their meats are all really flavorful and tender too!!!... CAULIFLOWER: 10/10 The flavor and texture of the cauliflower was so good!!! BRUSSELS SPROUTS: 10/10 I loved the sauce so much and the Brussels sprouts were so adorably cute and small. It's usually bitter but, it doesn't taste as bitter here and the sauce was just AMAZING!!!! SERVICE: 8/10 Good but, could be better! Such a fun and unexpected spot with a speak easy feel. We stopped by for bites and drinks and were pleasantly pleased with the vibe, drinks, food and friendly staff. You must make a reservation but are able to get seated as a walk-in if its not busy. We had a reservation and were seated within minutes. The front entrance display looks like a butcher shop which is actually functional and not just for display, in other words you can order a nice cut of beef to take home. Once you pass the freezer door entrance inside, you'll be seated in a small dining area with a full-size bar and a wall display of locked Steins which actually belong to club members (which on its own is a whole other can of surprisingly cool worms to delve into). Overall, we had a fun time and enjoyed everything we ordered so we'll def be back. Another plus, there's a free easily accessible parking structure across the street. read more

Absolutely LOVED the ambiance! Such a beautiful vibe & extremely chill. Not what I expected at all when we walked back, but soooo worth it. The food was delicious! The cocktails were okay, they looked great though. The Caesar salad chicken sandwich was SO GOOD! Chicharrones w guacamole was delicious! The wings, carne asada fries & chips/ salsa were delicious. The food was good. I ordered an appetizer, ribs, they were very tasty; the sauce makes it. I should have asked for more sauce, next time. My son ordered the burger with avocado and crispy fries, that way you make sure they come out hot. I think he got a beer too. The service and ambiance were great. My daughter came later and I wanted to share a scoop of ice cream with her, but, they don't serve ice cream by the scoop, you have to get three scoops which is such a waste of food. The Mexican chocolate ice cream was ok, but it seems like it was a pint of Thrifty's and we only ate the equivalent of one scoop, if that. Our bill including tip was almost $100. Recommend making a reservation for this place before you go. You walk through the "freezer door" to get into the inside of the speakeasy where it is spacious and has cute, dimly lit ambiance with a bar. Started with chips and salsa, not complimentary or bottomless, unfortunately. Chips were good and salsa was HOT, but delish. Then had the guava summer salad - light and refreshing with guava, figs and avocado on it. Ordered a guava seltzer - not great and barely has guava flavor and would not order again. Then for dinner we got the El Comal (chicken, tristar angus skirt steak and pork adobada that comes with salsa and homemade corn and flour tortillas). This dish can be shared and serves 2-3 ppl. This dish was AMAZING. Each meat was cooked perfectly - buttery, moist, flavorful, melt in your mouth pieces of meat. I was actually throroughly surprised at how good it was and was very full and still had leftovers. Will DEFINITELY be back. read more

We came here for date night and thankfully we had reservations, because the wait time was 45 minutes long. It was my first time here, you walk into what looks like a meat market store front, you then wait and are let in through a freezer door, kind of like a speakeasy. We ordered their sizzling hot plate with beef, pork, and chicken, it comes with tortillas and a bit of grilled veggie and two pieces of cheese. We had beer and wine . If you don't want to bring your phone out it may be an issue. Stopped by for the first time for diner on a Thursday night and it was ok. The girl at the front was nice and opened the second door for us. The ambiance is great upon entrance; the place is nice. We sat down, they took our order and the food came out in a timely manner, well most of it, but the drinks were delayed. Ordered juice for my son that never arrived after being told twice it was on its way. I ordered a second margarita that also never arrived. I will say that these items were not on our check. Food was tasty and we enjoyed dinner and ice cream for dessert, but service was a little slow and it wasn't too busy. I'd say visit this place if you haven't been to a speakeasy and try their food, and hopefully you have a better experience than ours. read more

What I've Tried - Guacamole de Chicharron - Chile Morita Wings - Chile Colorado - Chile Verde Mac and Cheese La Bodega Brewing is such a hidden gem! The food is AMAZING (dinner menu). If this place wasn't so far, I would visit more often. Service is great and decor is beautiful! The IPA and seltzer I tried were good. Chile Morita Wings is so flavorful that you don't need ranch! Chile Colorado with the handmade corn tortillas and beans are amazing. Although the tortilla is thick, all the flavors together work. I always get the same things when I visit but will need to be brave and try the brunch menu one day! Parking is easy! There is a structure across the street. They take reservations! I really wanted to like this place, but there definitely is a lot of room they can improve on. Came with a party of 3 and ordered a variety of items. The guava salad was amazing. Everything else was either overcooked or unfortunately not what we ordered. For mains we got Kobe Steak + Porterhouse + 3 Lobster Tails. The steaks were supposed to be medium, but came over cooked, both well done. Shame how the Kobe beef came well done at $110 per 6oz! (Teardrop). They also spaced out all the sides and each entree came out 15m apart, so didn't have a chance to eat everything together, or it cooled off. Timing of dishes can improve. Also we asked which desert she recommended, and she said cheesecake so we ordered that, but bread pudding came out. She seemed busy so we didn't say anything and just ate the desert. Overall the total for us 3 was around $620 with tip. They did credit us $28 for drinks so there's that. I think it's cause when she asked how the Kobe was, we said it was great but overcooked. I went today as a college student on a outing with my lovely mother. Firstly, it's so fun to visit this place as the entrance leaves you to think you're in one place when you have yet to enter another. Getting seated was quick and that's about it. My mother and I ordered micheladas. We were told "the mix is bad today and I don't want to serve it to you". we were really caught off guard by that response but moved on to select different drinks. My mother - a sangria wine. she was caught off by how bubbly it was. she thought it was fine. For me - a raspberry margarita. I learned it's agave wine and not tequila in the beverage. it tasted fine but wasn't my favorite it kinda tasted like a canned drink from my college town in Isla Vista. After being sat and placing in our drink orders it took a long time for a waiter to actually make and bring out our drinks. same for when it came time to pay, it was difficult unless you stare them down and wave. the service was really slow, we received 2 appetizers way before our drinks. server timing needs to be improved. it took a super long time to get serviced, receive drinks, and pay. Mac and cheese was okay, it was just not a favorite. We also had Brussels sprouts m they were flavored well but not crispy and incredibly soft. I liked the candied bacon best because it's crunchy. it's fun to check out but very pricey read more

Had a wonderful experience here from start to finish. Four different beers at our table, and each was excellent and true to the style. Fish tacos, shrimp tacos (best ever) were fantastic. I was really excited to try the chicken morita wings, but unfortunately they did not sit well with me at all. The flavor itself was decent but shortly after eating them, I ended up with a pretty bad stomach ache. It honestly ruined the experience for me. I'm not sure if it was an ingredient, the spice level, or just how the food was prepared, but it's something to be aware of. I'd recommend caution when ordering food here. read more

I'm not sure how many stars to give this place. The food was great, but the service was slow and at times a bit inappropriate.The restaurant has a really interesting speakeasy-style but brewery concept. The décor is stylish and aesthetically pleasing, and the cocktails were lovely. Unfortunately, they don't have a full liquor license, so my excitement for a charcoal Paloma was dampened by the agave wine substitute, it would have been fantastic with tequila or mezcal. Speakeasy's are suppose to have liquor primarily right? My friend enjoyed their beer, but our server didn't seem very knowledgeable about the small selection (around 5-9 beers/seltzers). We ordered the pumpkin seed dip, chile Colorado, pork chop, and Brussels sprouts. Everything tasted great especially the Brussels sprouts (though not the best I've had; see my review of Brussels Cafe in Laguna for that title). The pork chop was probably the best we've ever had, though it came out VERY oddly hot and about 30+ minutes after the rest of our food, by which point my chile Colorado was cold and we were literally the only people in the restaurant. The sangria was also disappointing. Overall, it's an interesting concept with strong potential, but it missed the mark on the brewery side and needs improvement in service and timing read more

This was a surprise in Whittier. Great decor, you enter what looks like a meat market and then they take you through a fake refrigerator door to enter the dining room. Great selection of craft brews, I chose a flight of IPAs. We had the chicherron with guacamole, the carne asada fries, the chicken wings, and repeated two orders of the spareribs. I think the flights are a bit expensive, I mean it is a brewery, and in order to to figure out what the beers is all about, but for 19 bucks, it is a bit above average. The food. We ordered steaks, although it is not a steakhouse, it is on a grill as evident with the char. The steak to me, is under seasoned. We had the garlic sauce and balsamic sauce. Balsamic was tangy, but use it sparingly. The garlic sauce was heavy, like I felt gross after trying it. I highly recommend this establishment to develop a black pepper sauce. I believe a steak itself should stand on its own, but the seasoning was flawed. Contradictory, I am a sauce guy, and the sauce doesn't hit. This is just me. The interior is nice. Came in for brunch and was not disappointed! Their cafe de olla is exceptional and definitely goes well paired with their freshly made conchas! The breakfast burrito was delicious and was more than enough food. Tried a flight of beers and my favorites were the El Rey beer and the Hazlitt, both great light beers. The strawberry seltzer is my personal favorite from Bodega, and if you're looking to make it even better, ask to mix it with their Guava seltzer, game changer! Shout out to my server Anthony, very helpful in helping me decide what to eat and drink. He was quite attentive and quite frankly made my experience at Bodega a great one!
