I visited Black Sheep on a Saturday night with a friend and, although the restaurant was surprisingly quiet, we had a really great meal. We ordered the Imperial Rolls, Salmon Skin Tacos, Butternut Risotto and Bao Buns. The Imperial Rolls were crispy and full of flavor, and the tacos were delicious. The risotto was a generous portion and very rich, so we couldn't finish it--but thankfully we were able to take some home! The Bao Buns looked amazing and came with shrimp chips, but by then we were way too full, so we each took one home to enjoy later. I had a Riesling and my friend enjoyed the "As You Wish" cocktail. The vibe was cool, with a nice bar area, and our server Kayla was wonderful--friendly, attentive and welcoming. Overall, a really enjoyable dinner with great food and service! read more

Nice little hidden gem! We live in the area and saw the amount of reviews and 5 stars so this one has been on our list to try for a while and I'm glad we did. I am a fan of fusion food and this place tends to combine a classic restaurant with an Asian twist. At least what we ordered. Favorite thing we ordered were all apps: the lettuce wraps, the beef tartare were both awesome and special, truly unique experience. We also got the salmon skin tacos and the sliders. For my entree I got the short rib with kimchi fried rice. It was good but again what wowed me were the apps. I also like their drink menu, they seem to be redoing it right now. Both drink I got were whiskey/bourbon old fashion style. One with chocolate and orange (my favorite of the night) and the other with coconut. Great little spot in an unassuming strip mall off of Warm Springs run by Top Chef Alum Jamie Tran. Smallish maybe 50 or 60 seats and they have a small tight menu (which I love). We started with a few apps. Salmon Skin Tacos which we devoured before getting a pic. The Steak Tartar is very reminiscent of a Korean Yukwei with a great fermented salty kick. The Spare Rib with coffee glaze was fall apart tender but still had a great crust. We moved to entrees and had the Strip Steak and the Braised Short Ribs. Both were delicious the only hit I might give is I thought the short rib could have used just a touch of salt but when paired with the Kimchi Fried Rice it balanced nicely. Innovative special dishes that one has probably ever tasted or seen before. Imaginative mixture of ingredients. Also, a wonderful drink menu filled with lots of mixed drinks with exotic flavors. Not the regular/boring expected dishes here. Everything seems to be cooked fresh and made to order. The trout is very eye catching. No bones. Amazing! Very easy to eat for a whole fish. A+! My only dislike was the rough rap with vulgar lyrics being played when enjoying such creative and levelled-up cuisine with friends and familly. Luckily, we had no younger members dining. (Songs had vulgarities spoken, sexual aspects and lot of "N" words) Later in the evening, the restaurant transforms into more of a bar setting. I wanted to share my experience because the service unfortunately took away from what otherwise would have been an excellent meal. Our waitress/bartender came across as rude and standoffish throughout much of our visit. I understand the restaurant was somewhat busy when we first arrived and there were only two waitresses working, so I tried to be patient and give her the benefit of the doubt. Toward the end of the meal, her demeanor seemed friendlier. However, after we left a 15% tip for what we felt was subpar service, her demeanor appeared to change again. As I was leaving, I politely said goodbye and felt that she stared at me in an unfriendly way. I also heard her tell another table, in substance, that she would wait until everyone at the table knew what they wanted before taking their order because it was more efficient for the kitchen. By that point, the restaurant appeared to be much less busy. When we asked what dishes she recommended, her response was essentially that if something was not good, it would not be on the menu. I personally found that response dismissive and would have appreciated a little more guidance. The other waitress we interacted with was very friendly and took time to speak with customers, so our experience was clearly not reflective of everyone working there. The disappointing part is that the food was excellent. The short rib and fish dish were some of the best dishes we had, and the kitchen deserves a lot of credit. Unfortunately, based on our personal experience, the service negatively affected the entire meal and we would not return. Went to BlackSheep for the first time this weekend. WOW what a menu! I had a hard time choosing what to get. While I didn't end up loving my dishes, I still looking forward to coming back. I got the salmon skin tacos. Very creative, very beautiful, not much flavor. The strongest flavor that came through was the red onion which I'm not a big fan of. For dinner I got the vegan noodles. Good texture, liked the veggies, it was a little spicier than expected and I'm coming to realize I may not love gochujang so much. The sauce was just a little too thick and overpowering. That said, the bao sliders were delicious, the steak tartare was interesting. The pork jowl was very tasty and the short rib looked very good. I did not love the imperial rolls, they had some flavor/spice coming through that I really disliked but others enjoyed them. In addition to the food, the service was great. They took great care of us, and even offered to write happy birthday on the cake we brought in. They did charge a cake cutting fee and cut up our whole cake and served us which was nice. Finally the ambiance was nice. It's not a large space (not too small either). Felt intimate, not a ton of other people. It was a great dining experience and I look forward to going back. read more

The menu keeps the old favorites but it's constantly evolving and adding new dishes. You'll never get bored here. My surprise favorite was the pear salad. The layering of flavors in that dish were so unexpected and so well thought out. If I lived on the west side I would come here daily to sit at the bar, have a glass of Vhino Verde and that salad. My friend wanted to try this restaurant out because she loves Top Chef. This is a great spot off-the-strip with plenty of parking, a quiet, intimate atmosphere, and warm lighting that makes it perfect for date night or a relaxed evening out. The menu features creative, Asian-inspired dishes and appears to change seasonally, which we loved. We started with the salmon skin tacos, which were exciting to try because they're such a unique menu item. The crispy salmon skin works as the taco shell and pairs nicely with the tender salmon tartare. There's great texture and balance, though it wasn't our favorite and we felt like it could've used just a touch of salt. Still, I'm glad we tried it. We also tried the chicken dumplings and Japanese pancake. We honestly couldn't choose a favorite between these two starters. The dumplings were served in a flavorful sauce, with crispy chicken skin pieces that added an amazing texture. The Japanese pancake was the best savory pancake I've had. We debated ordering a second, but didn't want to get too full before our entrées. We both ordered the braised pork jowl. I don't eat pork often (or meat in general), but this was done right. The meat was incredibly tender...no knife needed, and not overly fatty. The noodles are made fresh in-house, and the broth was rich, deep, and layered with flavor. The bitterness of the greens balanced the richness perfectly. It was comforting without feeling heavy, and was even better the next day as leftovers. I could've drank the broth on its own. Service was professional and attentive throughout the meal. For dessert, I had the maple bacon ice cream (also made in-house). The maple base was sweet and creamy with perfectly salty chunks of bacon. It was a total flavor bomb. One scoop was perfect, and if this were sold in ice cream shops, I'd buy it regularly. However, the sauce was a bit confusing, as there was no flavor that stood out. Thus, this dish was lost and the toast was basic, 2/5 stars. Charcuterie board: nothing stood out as it was a typical item you'd get at any wine bar, 3.5/5 stars. Spring rolls: these were fried to a crisp, were savory, and easy to finish, 4/5 stars. Shrimp chips and bao sliders: the shrimp chips were thick and flavorful while the bao had too much dough; however, the tuna delivered, 3.5/5 stars. Tres Leches "chocolates" cake: this was a deconstructed cake that just brought different flavors at each bite. The white chocolate for me was the best due to it's smooth sweetness, 4.5/5 stars! I had heard so many great things about this restaurant, but unfortunately, my experience was underwhelming . The biggest disappointment was our server. He seemed disinterested from the start, almost bothered to be doing his job. There was no warm welcome, no effort to make the experience enjoyable nor memorable. I have often noticed this tucked away restaurant as I got my BWW fix and decided the time was right to taste some more refined cuisine. My wife and I made reservations online for 6:15 and were promptly seated near the back of the small dining area. Our server was quick to greet us and offer us a beverage (sadly, no iced tea). We had a difficult time decided what to sample on this maiden voyage so we ended up foregoing the entrees and instead eating 4 different starters. All of them were delicious! First, and favorite, were the 2 salmon skin tacos. A perfect blend of savory and spice left us wanting more. The charcuterie board came with creatively sliced bread, a variety of cheeses, grapes, strawberries, cashews, pickles, chicken patté, prosciutto, salami, and bone marrow butter. The Black Sheep is a neighborhood Modern Vietnamese/American Restaurant by well seasoned chef Jamie Tran who worked under some of Las Vegas's finest chefs and also was a competitor on Bravo's TV Show Top Chef. The location of this restaurant is relatively close to The Durango. Inside are mostly traditional tables and there also is seating at the bar. The menu does change slightly every so often and they so far always offered a couple of specials. Usually the menu features a lot of fish and beef dishes and usually one vegan dish (plus others). Desserts are always amazing and are completely made in-house. We've been here a number of times and have always enjoyed every appetizer we've tried. I felt the need to bring them back up to 5 stars because the chef's signature boneless crispy rainbow trout was indeed crispy again. I've had this dish 6 times and 4 out of 6 times it arrived as it should. Desserts are always amazing and worth the calories. The last couple of times we've been here, we've been disappointed. Last night, we wanted to give them another shot and got a quick reservation. Didn't even need it because they only had 1 table occupied when we arrived. The hostess was great, she greeted us right away and sat us quickly. 5/5 stars For drinks, I had a cocktail, which was a bit strong for my liking, but ok overall. 3/5 stars For starters we had the Japanese pancake. This thing was very fishy tasting. My wife said it was because they used frozen shrimp. 2/5 stars For dinner, we had the slow braised rib. The rib itself was cut into 2 pieces. It tasted great, but the piece my wife had was mostly fat, so I gave her some of mine. The rice on the side wasn't very good, it lacked seasoning and salt. Had to ask for a table salt shaker. 3/5 stars We were looking around the place and above the outside of the bar is sitting a dirty old rag rolled up. Maybe it was to catch a water leak and forgotten up there. Yuck! 1/5 stars The server himself was great. 5/5 stars I can say that we used to like this place, we'd been a few times, but after this, we most likely won't be going back. It's sad, because I like to support these small local businesses, but this one seems to have been going downhill in food quality and ambiance. I hope they can turn things around. I'm not sure what the appeal is here. We made a reservation as we have been wanting to dine here for quite sometime. Quick seating and a beautiful bar. Yet, when I ask a bartender to make a specific cocktail 98% of bar programs should know and he doesn't know, we have a problem. Besides that the food was lackluster, salty and just not good. We didn't finish a single plate. Those imperial rolls were something out of the bottom of a grease pan, The steak tartare was a pure chili bomb, that's all you could taste was just spice and The short ribs were mainly fat and overly salted but the gravy was good so I'll give them that. This restaurant is a MUST VISIT for all Asian cuisine enjoyers. Top Chef contestant Jamie Tran did not disappoint. From the presentation of each dish, to the complex and layered taste profile of each dish, to the industrial farmhouse aesthetic and ambiance, everything was executed to perfection. I particularly loved the unique way of presenting more typical meals like the steak tartare was presented in a unique fashion. And salmon skin tacos? Incredibly delicious and one of a kind!
