Beautiful place, the only thing lacking was the food. Oh man, I really wanted to like this place. The ambiance, decor and service are top notch. Let's start with the chips and salsa or chip crumbs I should say. We had: Shrimp and carnitas tacos. Flavor was just ok. The tortillas were barely warm and did not taste fresh. The taco salad with chicken was just ok as well. Chicken was bland, although it looked seasoned. Chicken empanadas were good, sauce was great. Prickly Pear Margarita was great. Super duper fun Mexican food and ambiance at the Durango. Had a very lovely Sunday night dinner on Father's day where we were seated right at the border (no pun intended) between the interior and the exterior patio the interior being too dark and cramped not my style. Patio is great besides the awful sunken seats for the rounded booths. Basically it feels like you lose about a foot of your height you sit on this furniture it's so bizarre. Vamanos Gringos: The starter chips in salsa... I would say the chips are okay not great and the salsa is pretty solid. B Seabass ceviche...absolutely a must order for an appetizer to die for best I've ever tasted. A+ Chicken Taquitos... were divine and probably the best item here. Listed as an appetizer but large and filling and would serve as an entree easily. Love the presentation how they are vertically cut in half it was sooo tasty. A+ Carne asada plate... very nice cuts and easy to chew; wish there was a little bit more flavor but definitely solid. B+ Marisos en fuego (seafood on fire)... a mix of seafood presented on 4 clamshells and salt in the middle of plate that's on fire literally! Creative and tasted delicious with a garlicky white wine finish. A We were stuffed to order anything more but I'm sure everything else would be just as delicious if not more. Absolute fantastic dining experience and great service shout out to Diego for always looking after our table and our server Mason. Wow the vibes for brunch are unmatched!! As a retired brunch goer .. my friend and I only stumbled here because we wanted bottomlesss mimosas and food and I'm so happy I came!! As someone who dedicated Sundays to brunch when they turned 21.. this would def be in my rotation. The brunch vibes are amazing! To the mix of Latin music and old school Mana to the bottomless mimosas / margaritas and tasty food!! My friend and I started off with guacamole and Hamachi (yellowtail.. sorry I have to add that because I lowkey didn't know lol) and we both agreed the guac needed a little salt and the sauce for the yellowtail was not giving! I did ask my friend if she wanted a side of salt for us for the guac and she declined and tbh I agreed it wasn't NEEDED but definitely WANTED. For the Hamachi, we both agreed the yellowtail was tender and delicious but the sauce it came kind of lacked something! I still found it rather delicious and finished my half. For our entree we decided to split the enchiladas and frijoles charros and tbh I loved the enchiladas and was accepting of the frijoles! The sauce for the enchiladas was creamy and flavorful and they did not skimp on the chicken! The frijoles were not giving "charro" they just gave frijoles. Incredible get together to celebrate birthdays and life. This New Mexican cuisine restaurant is located in the Durango Casino. The food and environment was amazing. Not only was the food delicious it was artistically presented. We started of course with guacamole and chips and progressed to shrimp and scallops appetizers. We shares Branzinio, lobster tacos, steaks and birria short ribs. All matched with festive margaritas. We finished our meal with Flaming chocolate skull flan . It was a great show with high end chocolate. The service was top notch. They worked together as well rehearsed theater. Definitely worth the money. read more

While I found the ambiance gorgeous and reminiscent of Tulum, there were several aspects of the service and food that I felt could be improved. Despite having a reservation, the seating process was slow, and the service remained slow once we were seated. Regarding the menu, while I enjoyed the spicy mango margarita, the queso fundido was disappointing as the cheese hardened quickly, making it difficult to eat. Additionally, I found it unusual that the whole grilled branzino did not include a side. I ordered the black beans to accompany it, but they unfortunately tasted as though they came directly from a can. I finished with the churros (chocolate was my favorite) still dreaming of them! read more

Come here for the Taco Tuesday special, it doesn't miss. You get unlimited tacos & margaritas for $36 per person for a max of 2 hours. We had the carne asada tacos & also the chicken tacos. We both preferred the chicken tacos over the asada bcuz the asada meat needed a little more seasoning or flavor but to each their own. Each order comes with a bowl of beans & rice and they are super tasty as well. The first round of margaritas, we ordered the strawberry & pepino. The pepino is cucumber & pineapple juice & has burst of flavors with every sip. The strawberry is not super sweet & a little tangy but has a bold flavor profile to it. I would suggest a sugar rim for both instead of salt as it throws off the entire taste. We sat at the bar & the service was fast and friendly. They open at 4pm & we showed up around 4:45pm with multiple seats open at the bar. It's now 5:15pm and it's damn near packed in the restaurant including the bar. I love my lunch and dinners with an extra side of bougie and the aesthetics at Mijo definitively match my vibe! This restaurant is very cutesy with a few photo opps on entry which totally drew me in! The menu is super duper simple: upscale items like grilled octopus and ceviche or tacos and enchiladas. I went with chicken tacos (2) rice and black beans. The chicken was decent not the best taco I've ever had but the rice and beans were pretty good. The street corn was probably my favorite along with the habanero salsa and guac (does anyone do tableside guac these days). I ordered their version of a Tequila Espresso martini and it was so good. I'll have to spend the block on this place when I'm in a seafood mood because tacos alone I would not return for to be honest. The service was 5/5 I really appreciate how attentive my server was an as a non beef pork eater she was very consistent with her recommendations down to the black beans. We came here for our wedding anniversary dinner, and it was a wonderful experience! The decor is very contemporary, upscale, and Mexican inspired. They have a variety of table and booth seating options. We were lucky enough to be seated at a large booth. Our server was friendly and acknowledged the anniversary celebration several times during the evening. She was friendly but not over the top friendly. I would say she was efficient and kind. I had the "Cantarita" cocktail which was strong and delicious. I love the clay cup it was served in. We enjoyed chips and salsa plus guacamole as appetizers. They have a standard and a "hot" salsa. I actually enjoyed the hot option more as it seemed more flavorful without being overly hot. The chips were delicious and a bit on the thicker side. We also tried the chicken empanadas as appetizers. These were very tasty with a crispy exterior and a flavorful filling that honestly could have been a bit hotter - the filling was sort of lukewarm. I had the grilled branzino as my entree. It was butterflied and served with both a red and a green sauce. It was quite tasty and well-prepared. We enjoyed Spanish rice and the Yuca fries as side dishes. The rice was excellent - extremely fluffy rice with a wonderful, light tomato flavor. The fries were unique and had the texture of a traditional french fry with a slightly different, lighter flavor. We had a pre-ordered special dessert which had a variety of churros, chocolate covered Mexican twinkies, and a melting chocolate skull with flan inside. Delicious!! The tableside "skull melting" presentation was very cool. The churros were wonderfully crisp outside with a fluffy interior. I also enjoyed the Mexican twinkies which have a fruit gel filling as well unlike American twinkies. The flan was also quite good particularly when mixed with the melted chocolate. Came here over the weekend to try their restaurant week menu. We got seated outside in the patio which wasn't too hot. We did notice that there was a constant change in air. One minute we would feel a cold breeze then a hot breeze. This was noticed throughout our dinner. Our table ordered a variety of dishes including carne asada, fajitas, carne asada tacos, chicken tacos and birria tacos. I also got the spicy shrimp cocktail, beef enchiladas and the churros & Mexican twinkle (restaurant week menu). Our table got regular tap water but noticed it wasn't great tasting so we ended up ordering some beverages. I don't think their water filter is the greatest here. I would order bottle water here. The food was decent. I did like the carne asada and tacos. My beef enchiladas were okay, as I didn't care for the smokey flavor in the sauce. Their chips, salsa and guacamole were good. Their spicy shrimp cocktail was different as they sliced the shrimp into thin slices. I'm used to shrimp being whole in the cocktail. It did have a slight sweetness as well, which I wasn't expecting. Slight hint of spicy also. The tres Leche, strawberry and chocolate filled churros were good and the chocolate dipping sauce was like a Mexican hot chocolate (according to my husband). The music selection was played by a dj inside and they played some good music with a variety of genres, but also more of the popular songs. Overall it's a nice restaurant to go to for a group or a date night. The inside seemed a little louder when we were walking through to get seated. Our waiter was good but there was a couple of times I had to look for him to ask for something. I felt there could have been more check ups on our table than what was provided that night. read more

Great evening here celebrating a friend's birthday! We opted for three menu items to share with a nice bottle of wine. Plenty of food for us three women to share. We had the appetizer with Mexican shrimp and scallops; chicken tacos, and lobster tacos. All were delicious. The hostess was fun to be around while we were waiting for our table. It was completely packed and we figured it would be a minimum of 20-30 minutes we were shocked when she said good to go after 4 minutes. Mijo at the Durango Casino set the perfect stage for our anniversary and delivered one of the most memorable dining experiences we've had in a long time. From the moment you arrive the intention is clear. You walk through a breathtaking corridor of flowers before entering the main dining room -- it's theatrical and romantic in equal measure. We were seated in a gorgeous private booth all to ourselves which felt like its own little world inside the spacious and beautifully designed interior. Our server was exceptional -- efficient, attentive, and genuinely thoughtful. She proactively warned us about the spicier salsa and brought both options to the table. She was not exaggerating. The hot salsa will absolutely make you breathe fire -- consider yourself warned and order it anyway. The food is approached steakhouse style with à la carte sides meant for sharing which makes the whole meal feel communal and fun. The yuca fries were intriguing -- beautifully executed -- though if your heart is set on a classic potato fry they won't quite scratch that itch. The empanadas however are hearty, crispy, and substantial enough to be a meal on their own. The enchiladas were flavorful with a wonderful selection of sauces and cremas to mix and layer into your own custom combination. And the Spanish rice -- a generous, gorgeous bowl -- was exactly what enchiladas demand. Some things simply belong together. For our anniversary I had pre-ordered the chocolate skull and churros sampler dessert and it was the perfect finale. The skull arrived tableside with a sparkler blazing, then slowly melted away to reveal a flan hidden inside -- a genuinely magical moment. The churros sampler spanning strawberry to chocolate was lovely, and the chocolate covered gansito style twinkies were an unexpected and delightful bonus. Mijo is a place built for celebration. Always seen this place inside of Durango Casino so I decided to give it a try. The best way to describe this place is a fancy, dimly lit Mexican restaurant that serves your favorites like tacos, tostadas and even grilled meats. This experience/review is based off of us going with the server's recommendation. Having never been there I feel like my trust was with the server's recommendation, but looking back on it I'm pretty sure they were just recommending higher ticketed items. Of everything that we tried, the only thing I'd recommend is the sea bass ceviche, octopus and the street corn. I feel like with most restaurants I've been to, octopus is always something that is pretty good. The street corn and ceviche I feel are just standard except you're paying more. Next time I'll have to try the other tacos, which I assume would be really good. The seating is pretty intimate other than the music playing loudly around you. Ironically, it kind of secludes you and your party in interesting way as the lighting focuses on your table and you have to get closer to hear each other talk. Overall, I would give this place another chance but mainly choose items that I'd like, or even some of the more basic items. Mijo pleasantly surprised us. When we hear "modern Mexican," we sometimes expect dishes that lean too far into being overly Americanized and lose depth of flavor but that wasn't the case here. The standout of the night was easily the lobster tacos. They were beautifully balanced rich, buttery lobster with just the right amount of acidity and freshness to cut through it. Every bite felt intentional, not heavy, and the textures worked really well together. Definitely the dish we'd come back for without hesitation. We also ordered the carne asada, cooked medium as requested. The steak itself was cooked properly with a nice sear, but flavor-wise it felt a little under-seasoned on its own. However, once we added the chimichurri, it transformed the dish. The herbaceous brightness and acidity gave the steak the lift it needed and brought everything together much better. I'm typically not an enchilada person, but I gave it a try. It was solid, comforting and well-executed. Just not something I personally gravitate toward. If you enjoy enchiladas, you'd probably appreciate it more than I did. The chips and dip were genuinely addictive. Fresh, crisp, and perfectly salted, and the dips were flavorful without overpowering. It's one of those starters you accidentally finish before the mains arrive. The cocktails were also impressive. Well-balanced, not overly sweet, and clearly crafted with care. They complemented the food nicely rather than competing with it. Talk about accidentally finding a hidden gem at the Durango Casino. The food hall there is great, but stepping into Mijo, transported me on vacation to Talum. Upscale vibes went well with the gorgeous interior, and a booming DJ. Since I was there alone, the host was able to accommodate me quickly. Fresh warm Chips with Salsas, and Guacamole is a must, and I nearly inhaled my QuesaBirria Taco before taking pictures because it was so delicious, lol. First of all, the restaurant is beautiful. They have a speakeasy in a hidden wall. The speakeasy room has a romantic feel to it with dim lighting, inviting music with a live DJ. 3 different types of seating: bar, lounge, or high top. The customer service for the most part is excellent. Just drinks, no food in the speakeasy. The restaurant portion was a little shaky. First of all, we went on a popular day--taco Tuesday. Although we had reservations for 2 we still had to wait around 20 mins to be seated. We had a nice waiter that in the beginning he was good but the night dragged on from his lack attention. It was ridiculous the time it took to ask for more tacos and drinks (it was our first and last extra round--not like we kept ordering more and more.) That interaction alone waiting for him and asking for him to come took around 15 mins. Then it took an additional 15 mins to get our food and drinks. Then at check out it took around the same time. It was infuriating. And at the end we explained to him why we are not leaving any tip for him--because genuinely why would we considering the aforementioned, he tells us that he has to pay his team their tip at the end of his shift and that now he will have to pay from his own pocket and adds a sarcastic "thank you." When we were there it was a steady section that ultimately became almost empty with a few guests including ourselves, and we didn't see him during that downtime. Then when a rush hour came we see him attending to the new guests, meanwhile we're waiting for him to circle back. I spoke with the manager at the end and he apologized and wants to do a service recovery. I haven't had a chance to go back since I'm a busy woman. I'll circle back once we experience the service recovery. Overall, I think this is a beautiful restaurant and the food is delicious. Maybe the waiter was having a bad day. But when someone is spending their time and money somewhere when they could have easily taken it somewhere else like Lindo Michoacán (who never fails to deliver and is not even close to the scale as this) that says something. read more

This place was all decor no flavor! When walking it in smells good and it's really nicely decorated. It's dimly lit and has music going. Music was a bit loud. Made it hard to talk and hear anyone including the waiters. We were a party of 8. We had seen this restaurant when visiting the Durango previously and were really excited to go. First thing I noticed was it was a little pricey. That's would have been fine if the food was worth it but I felt it wasn't. I ordered the carne asada fajitas. The carne asada was chewy and didn't seem well cooked or seasoned. The onions and peppers were good though. I've actually had better fajitas for a LOT less. The portions seemed small and I was hungry before I even got home. For dessert I tried one of the Mexican Twinkie's. Was not impressed. It tasted like stale cake wrapped in chocolate. I thought it might have just been my taste buds but when asking some of the people in my party how their food was the reaction was "ehh" The service was great. Our waiter was very nice and did a great job. The hostess was super sweet and even made sure our table would accommodate a stroller I had with me. Definitely not a place I'd go back to. Went here the other day for an early dinner at 4pm and was pleasantly surprised with everything from start to finish. We were greeted by two lovely girls at the front & sat closer to the outside seating area so we had more light (it's a little dark in the restaurant) & our waiter was awesome! We had chips, salsa & guacamole for the table. I ordered the chicken empanadas to start, then the beef enchiladas as my main - both were very flavorful, however the sauce for the enchiladas was more like a tomato sauce than an enchilada sauce. My friend ordered the lobster tacos & added a 4th taco so I could try it & they were delicious! I would definitely get the lobster tacos again & try other dishes as well. The service was slow, they weren't busy yet and it took a while to get water and chips. We ordered the chicken enchiladas, they are very flavorful and I would recommend them. Beans and rice is an additional charge and served family style. For Mexican food it's too pricey. The Long Island ice teas weren't consistent, it was obvious one bartender is better than the other. The dress code is also a joke, lots of people dressed in short short jean shorts and tank tops, so don't stress about how you're dressed! read more

Rick, the manager, was the kindest man. He was incredibly hospitable. We were sat with Logan who was very kind and attentive. The ambiance was beautiful and the music was great. I don't know why I haven't been to this place, but I'm so glad we finally did and we had a great experience! Ambience is 10/10! Beautiful decor and totally insta worthy! It doesn't even seem like you're inside a casino. Service also 10/10! Our server constantly checked on us and our waters were constantly topped off! We appreciated that details since we were enjoying the $10 happy hour margaritas. We ordered a few appetizers. The asada tostadas were so yum! We also ordered the beef rib birria, steak fajita, and taco queso birria. We were a party of 5 and we all agreed that we enjoyed all of the dishes and margaritas! Now I've dined here a few times, so this review will be generalized from those three visits. I've come once for brunch and twice for dinner. The vibes here are always immaculate! The music, not sure if it's always a DJ, but this last visit I saw him spinning in the corner. The decor adds to the phenomenal ambience, two of the times I sat on the patio, but this most recent time we sat inside. The food never misses! Everything I have ordered I have absolutely loved. My favorite would have to be the charred octopus and the shrimp fajita plate. Customer service is also great, well except this last time. Sigghhhh...we sat at for 10 minutes without being greeted. The person who was our server walked by several times without acknowledging us. We finally just flagged anyone down and asked for service. We watched the person we flagged down go over to the woman who had ignored us previously. Once she finally came to speak her demeanor wasn't very welcoming. Honestly, her service really put a damper on our experience especially for the two guests that were visiting me for the weekend. I was disappointed they didn't get to thoroughly enjoy one of my favorite places because of lackluster service. I won't rate the service since this last experience would bring down the average. I'm still plan on returning, but I'll be on the lookout for miss ma'am to avoid being in her section. Our experience was a mixed bag. Let me start by admitting that we are probably not their target demographic. We are locals, and old. The space is beautiful, though IMO, insanely dark, and unnecessarily loud. We go out for a nice dinner to enjoy the food, and each other's company, not shout over music. Again, could be just us. The server was perfect. Friendly, knowledgeable, and helpful. I found it odd that the menu did not include a standard Margarita, but she knew exactly what I wanted, and it was delicious, and strong! After the chips and salsa, (good, but not amazing), we started with the chicken empanadas, which were amazing. My husband ordered the 1/2 chicken mole. If that was a half chicken, well anyway, it was awfully small. The mole was different from what he was used to. Not bad, but not his favorite. I had the beef enchiladas. Again, not bad, but for the price I expected better. I liked the sauce, but the filling was bland, and the tortillas had a texture I did not enjoy. Guess I am more of a flour, not corn tortilla person. Overall, I regret to report that the experience was disappointing, and we will not be returning. read more

My waitress was kind and efficient ‼ The complementary salsa and chips were 4/5. I ordered the lobster tacos at the suggestion of the waitress. 0/5 they were disgusting . No flavor and a waste of money . My friend ordered the chicken taquitos 5/5. I think the food is over priced and lacks flavor and seasoning . The ambiance was beautiful ‼ I won't be back. read more
