Go inside to get in line then there are some nice benches outside to enjoy the weather while you wait. There were options at a variety of price points. What a fun little spot for breakfast! Right off US1 at King Street, this was a convenient spot to stop while visiting local businesses. The interior is attractive/antique with a clear hen-based theme in the decor. We were quickly approached by our server and she brought coffee and juice. I had the corned beef hash which was a large portion with two eggs, and it was very flavorful. Pricing all-in including beverages, tip and tax was just under $30 per person which was a very good value. The exterior of the restaurant is nothing to speak of, other than a spacious and free parking lot. Inside, there was a sufficient space between tables that allowed for good conversation without being overwhelmed by either kitchen noise or the conversation of other patrons. One of the best breakfast restaurants we have had the pleasure of dining in. Hands down an overall great experience and this will become a staple when we visit or drive anywhere near here and they are open. We stayed in Lincolnville at an Air B&B, so the walk was 1 block to get there- which was lovely. We got there at 8:45am on a Friday after Christmas and the wait was 30 minutes. It immediately went to 45 minutes after I put my name in and within 10 minutes was at an hour wait. And I will tell you- only 1 couple walked away upset at the wait time. Everyone else braved the 42 degree weather and stood outside waiting patiently. We were all there to experience the greatness of the Blue Hen breakfast. And it was worth the wait! Quick and friendly service. We got coffee and tea. The entrees were all hot and superb. We all agreed to come back for breakfast again before we left town we loved it so much. I also wanted to buy the hot sauce they offered in the table (Cowgills). We excitedly planned our next visit to the Blue Hen and unbeknownst to us, they would be closed on NYE. I was so disappointed when I got there at 8am Sunday morning to an empty storefront and a sign on the door. Oh well. We will be back. I know we will. This place is worth the drive and the wait. Park in the small lot on Kings Ferry (only a few parking spots) or there is on street parking in the neighborhood. Just don't park along the yellow curb or in front of driveways or posted signs. Lincolnville is a fabulous area to stay also if you are visiting St. Augustine. Walkable to historic district and many fabulous restaurants (Fish Camp, Ice Plant). read more

My husband recently read about this place in an article of great hidden breakfast restaurants so we decided to give it a try this morning for breakfast. It ended up being a great decision. The ambiance inside the restaurant was fun and fabulous with all of the various hen decor. Service was excellent from the moment we stepped in the door. We were quickly seated and received menus to peruse. They have about a dozen different menu options for breakfast. I opted for the vegetable cheese omelet and I have to say it was probably the most flavorful veggie omelet I have ever had. This can probably be attributed to the black beans and salsa included in the omelet. It also came with either sweet potato or regular hash browns as well as a biscuit or toast. Their peach butter was also included with most entrees. My husband had the corn beef hash and loved his meal as well. Service was quick and friendly throughout our meal. Every time we are in st. Augustine We have to dine here ! This place is a must for breakfast. Here is what we ordered and will continue to order every time we come here. Their chicken biscuit is to die, for we usually will do it with eggs or potatoes. What I love to do is take the top off one of the biscuits and spread the peach butter. They provide you with then the other half. I put the hot sauce on top and eat the chicken and biscuit. I tried their guava mimosa that was delicious as well. We really wanted to split a sweet and a savory item for breakfast, but by the time our table was ready, it was too late for French toast or pancakes. The savory breakfast menu is available all day. The chicken biscuit was great. And I loved the sweet potato home fries that came with the Zada Jane. Def get the iced coffee if that's your thing. They use coffee ice cubes! Worth the wait!! We visit St. Augustine often, even before moving to Jacksonville, and always wanted to dine here. Our usual excuse was the wait or once they moved from Lincolnville, we didn't want to drive and walked somewhere else instead. Never again! Our 40 minute wait was reduced due to a few spots opening at the counter. The space is adorable with looks of vintage decor. Everyone on the staff was kind, welcoming, and friendly. We never had to ask for anything, our waters and coffees continuously being refilled. Love that they don't pack people in, the tables are nicely spaced which I sure adds to the staff's ability to attend to those who are seated. The food was fantastic. Both the regular potatoes and sweet potatoes were cooked perfectly, the cubes seemed to be fried raw which made for crispy outsides and soft, yummy insides. The biscuits were soft and delicious, but the apricot butter elevated them to the next level. The pumpkin pancake was full of pumpkin flavor and barely needed syrup to enjoy. Our hotel recommended and we like the location which was a nice easy walk in the morning. Food was fabulous - I ordered the two eggs with gluten-free bread which was delicious. We cannot get over the butter, a peach family recipe that took our breath away with each bite. Service was outstanding, checked on us regularly and even gave us extra bread since she thought the serving was too small. The gluten-free bread was so good that we could have eaten an entire loaf. This was our first visit to the Blue Hen. There was about a 20 minute wait on Thursday midday. Most tables are tables for 4 so it is pretty spacious for 2 people. There are enough servers so they don't seem to get frazzled with the continual flow of people. Our service was great as well. My husband ordered the Fried green tomato burger which he said was very good. Burger was thick and cooked as ordered. The sweet potato fries were cubed and really had a great sweet potato taste. I ordered the corned beef hash breakfast. The grits were some of the best I have ever eaten. The biscuit with the peach butter was as delicious as I had been told it was. I asked for poached eggs but they don't offer that option so I had eggs over easy. They were very good. I didn't love the hash but I think it was more me than the hash. I have a particular corned beef hash that I like and if you look at the picture, this corned beef was cubed and cooked with peppers and onions. I ate some of it, it was fine but just not right for me. I didn't want to complain because it was my issue, not theirs. I always struggle to write a review if I ordered wrong. So I am giving 5 stars because the eggs, grits and biscuit deserved 5 stars. It was just the last minute that I ordered the hash. If you are a corned beef hash lover please don't go by me.
