Normally the best BBQ comes from the most humble setting, so a food truck behind a tattoo parlor on Route 355 seemed like the perfect place. I knew something was off by the fact that the parking lot was empty at lunch time, and there were no billowing clouds of smoke. I don't know if the pulled pork was cooked in a pit before it went in the crock pot with marinade or what, but it had the soggy wetness that I associate with crock pot pulled pork. Maybe it was soggy from hours on the steam table. I don't know. All I know is that soggy meat is NOT AT ALL Carolina style, I don't care how much vinegar the sauce has it it. I gave a one star not because of the food because I have never been able to have the food but because of the experience. I have gone to get food three times and left with no food three times. The first time they were closed (ok). The second time they were "open" but said they were getting ready for an event the next day and were not taking orders. My latest attempt was today. They were advertised to be opened until 5pm. We arrived at 415pm. There was a vehicle to the side which made it look like someone was there and there was a lit sign with the hours posted that clearly stated that they should've still be opened. Another couple came behind us and we all looked in to find no one inside. And as we were leaving another was car was pulling up. So, there were three customers that they lost revenue for. Frustrating for us and pitiful on their part. Unfortunately. I really wanted to try the chicken sandwich there but I am afraid that I never will because in my book three strikes means you're out. read more

Spend a lot of time in the road eating at BBQ joints across the south - it's hard to find good places in the north at times, but this is one of them. Tasted authentic, filling, quick, etc. believe fresh cut fries, but way too much salt. Sandwich says comes topped with slaw, but there was none, if wasn't for those two things would easily be 5/5. I've been eating here for far too long without ever leaving a review. This is one of the only place I ever get BBQ, other food locations don't have the right tasting BBQ for my tastes. I've had almost every item on the menu; here are a few discernible favorites. The Pit Beef BBQ and Pulled Pork Memphis style BBQ are my favorite sandwiches on the regular menu, if you get a chance to have the Sliced Chicken BBQ when it comes up as a special, get it! I love the Hush Puppies here; they come with a dipping sauce of honey,butter, and cinnamon (yummm!). The onion rings are huge and cooked to crunchy perfection, each order comes with a dipping sauce as well. The Beef Brisket Chili and the White&Pink Beans are to die for, maybe its just me but I crave those throughout the week! The Fries are freshly cut, fried, and seasoned. Crunchy and delicious they are good warm or cold, can't say that about other places. Secret Menu Items? Yes there are a few. Fried dill pickles along with a few varieties of Wings. Old Bay Wings (wonderful!), Spicy Buffalo Wings (spicy, tasty, and a tad messy always make sure you have napkins!), BBQ wings, or even BBQ Buffalo wings to get that spicy flavor but a bit more mild. It's a truck. A freakin' blue truck. I had driven past it many, many times and pretty much scoffed at its existence. After all, it's a dang truck. One day, however, I found myself driving between points A and B and noticed a line of people standing in line by said freakin' dang blue truck and decided to stop. After all, there HAD to be something to a line of people standing outside of it, right? So...I waited in line, I laughed at myself (quietly--didn't want those in the line of the freaking dang blue truck to think I was nuts) for being a lemming and I made my way to the front of the line. I noticed that they sold several types of pulled pork, barbecue and brisket and, as one whose family mostly hails from North Carolina, I did as any self-respecting person would do: I ordered the North Carolina style pulled pork. I got it as a sandwich with cole slaw (a little runnier than I like) and a few hush puppies to go along with it. Once I got home and inspected it, that is when the party started. The party in my mouth, that is! I consider myself somewhat of a snob where Carolina style pulled pork is concerned and feel that Maryland, while aficionados of all things crab/Old Bay relayed, isn't the expert on what constitutes good ol' pulled pork. Oh, but the Blue's BBQ Company IS!!! The following week, I went back again and bought some more pulled pork and some brisket and this time, I shared with my kids (in my defense, they were at camp the week prior!) and they agreed with me that it was absolutely stellar! My ONLY criticisms that the hush puppies aren't quite as tasty as what's found down in NC and the visibility of the truck aren't fantastic but, honestly, it's such a small critique that I'm not going to deduct anything for either! The prices are reasonable, the portion sizes are good and the taste...oh, the taste of their Carolina style pulled pork! The freakin' dang blue truck is a welcome, welcome site, y'all and it's a lot closer than driving down to Durham for some great pork. Blues BBQ Truck is certainly a compromise, at least for those lucky enough to have been to Texas, Kansas City, St. Louis, or one of the other American BBQ Meccas. For those unfortunate souls whose idea of good BBQ is a McRib Extra Value Meal, Blues is the Bomb. Pit beef, pulled pork, hush puppies, fried pickles, and all within walking distance of an Asian massage parlor. Have some pulled pork for lunch, and get your pork pulled for dessert! Seriously... they should go into business together. Alright then, so where does this place come up short? It's a food truck. An old, weather-beaten, shady-looking food truck, parked behind Snakeman's Tattoo & Body Piercing. I'm sure the rent is hard to beat, but it's also hard to find. One has to ask the question, "where do they keep the smokers and the ovens?" Offsite? In Snakeman's basement? The food quality is good overall, but the brisket is too inconsistent to recommend. Sometimes it's fine, sometimes it's so fatty you can't help but wonder if the obesity epidemic has spread to America's stockyards. But I'd pick Blues any day over the Black Hog, or CarterQue, or Famous Dave's, or any one of the other local posers serving up sauced-covered meat. If you travel much and get a chance to visit Arthur Bryant's in KC or Franklin BBQ in Austin, you'll experience this culinary art form in all its smokey glory. If you live near here, are driving through here, live within driving distance of here or no matter the distance just want great BBQ this is your place! Based on fellow yelpers we went here looking for great food. My husband is VERY picky about his BBQ and this place left him in awe. We got the memphis pulled pork sandwiches, fries, hush puppies and a slab of baby back ribs with sweet tea to round it out. The pork is tender, smokey and well cooked. The sauce is a blend of slightly spicey, sweet goodness for your tounge and the roll... let me tell you about the roll. It traps all the pork and sauce goodness inside without going soggy on the outside. It tastes homeade and makes this sandwich a heavenly delight to eat. The fries are crispy with a great salt and thyme ( i think) mixture on them which is really tasty. The hushpuppies come with this lovely butter sugar cinnamon mixture to top them with and the slaw that you can have on or off of your sandwich... well I wasn't sure so I got it on the side and ended up dumping it on the sandwich it was that good. The ribs are fall off the bone tender, smoked to perfection. You would never know this place was here unless you looked it up. It sits behind the snakeman tattoo place and is absolutely worth the trip. There is parking and there are picnic tables if the weather is cooperating the day you go. I have lived here for 6 years and this is the first place that I have found BBQ worth eating. I grew up in the south and know what good BBQ is I promise you this is it. EAT HERE! It's behind another business with no signs anywhere, and it's a trailer... Like I said behind a buisness. So we walk up and we start looking at the menu.. This is by far the BEST BBQ I have ever had !!! I have been to just about every BBQ place in the area and none can hold a candle to Blues BBQ. I have had everything there and I can tell you there are no lame ducks on this menu, it all rocks! Pulled Pork, Brisket, Chicken, Pit Beef, Pit Ham, Ribs whatever you choose you can't go wrong, the sides are awesome as well (don't even get me started on the Fries). The prices are great and the portions are huge. I've been to both the Blue Truck in Frederick and the sit down restaurant in Roanoke while on travel and both are superb! Blues BBQ is a little operation based out of a big blue truck parked behind a tattoo parlor. I actually really dig that. I like my BBQ like I like my music. I want it a little threatening. I want it to challenge me. I want it to possibly make me uneasy and question things I once thought true. Once upon a time, a friend of mine asked where he might find the best BBQ in a town I used to live in, that he was going to be passing through. I told him it was tough to say, as all the best places were road side deals, and those guys moved around all the time. I liked that. Hell, it was a challenge just to keep track of where they were! Kind of like a BBQ treasure hunt. If you don't want a challenge, or to feel maybe a touch threatened - best to just go find something like a 'Smokey Bones'. Or perhaps 'Denny's' has something that they call BBQ on the menu now. They offer a nice menu beyond just the Pit Beef, and for the first go, we went with the pulled pork sandwich and ribs, and then grabbed some fries and onion rings for the sides. My thoughts on each: Pulled Pork Sandwich - My own personal preference for a pulled pork sandwich is typically something along the lines of what I consider 'Memphis Style', specifically, a nice smoked pulled pork dry (not blended with sauce), a good slaw on top, and then a sweeter, thicker, tomato based sauce with a touch of spice and tang applied. The Blue's BBQ pulled pork was more along the line of what I consider a 'Carolina Style', specifically, a smoked pulled pork, already mixed with a thinner, more vinegar based sauce, and then topped with a slaw. I very much enjoyed their take on the pulled pork sandwich, and thought it was a very good presentation, something I would definitely get again. The pork was nice and smoky, but not over powering, and had a nice touch of pepper. The sauce was a very nice compliment and blended nicely with the meat, not overpowering it - which is typically one of the things I tend to not like about a pulled pork sandwich where the pork is already blended with the sauce. It tends to be so up front that you lose the flavor of the meat. Not so in this case. For me, BBQ is about the meat, the sauce is only there to bring out the best in that meat. I don't go to an expensive steak house because I like steak sauce, and I extend the same line of thought to BBQ. And no, I don't use steak sauce on a well prepared steak. It's an insult to the Chef. Ribs - Baby back ribs served up wet. Overall, not at all bad, but far enough outside of my personal preference, that I don't think I would repeat. It wasn't something that wasn't worth eating, just not what I go looking for in a rib. On the plus side, I thought it was a very good cut of meat, and it was just to the point I like, where the meat is juicy and falling off the bone. The sauce was similar to what I had on the pulled pork from what I could tell, and added a nice tang to the meat, without overpowering it. Another plus in my book. On the downside, I got no smoke flavor whatsoever. It didn't seem that they were cooked in a smoker, but I got the hint of flavor that you get what you cook something with gas. I really missed the smoked pork goodness, and these seemed more like what I might get from someone's oven or gas grill. I will say however, that there exists a good bit of potential there. Throw those bad boys on a smoker. And if they are on a smoker, check it. Something is off. Fries - The fries were very good. Some of the better fries I have had. Definitely a boardwalk style, I wished I had some malt vinegar with me (they may have had some at the counter, I don't know...actually didn't look before we left with the food. Definitely greasy, but not soggy. Reminded me very much of the fries I would get at the county fair. They are very nicely done. Onion Rings - I suppose that reviewing sides from a BBQ place is like saying you enjoyed a movie at a theater because the popcorn was good. Personally, I enjoy the sides when I go to BBQ. I love a good brisket, with a nice side of beans, and finish it up with a nice warm cobbler. To me, that's BBQ tradition. It doesn't add to or take away from the overall experience for me if the sides aren't up to snuff, but it's all the better when they are. The onion rings were very good, a nice batter, and a nice bit of crunch, deep fried and served up with a spicy dipping sauce that I thought went very well with the rings. All in all, I rate my visit at 4 stars (4 for the sandwich, 3 for the ribs, 4 for the onion rings, and 5 for the fries). Enjoy! read more

My god the food here is good. Pit beef sandwich is the way to go, although their brisket is signature. Plus, its the only place in town you can find real hush puppies. I knocked off a star cause they got my order wrong. I love their hush puppies, so you can imagine my surprise when i got back to my desk at work only to see french fries... which I enjoyed consuming as well, and shared with my coworker because they literally fill up the entire container with fries...so many french fries! and the salt...not sure if its too much or just too good, but whatever kinda salt they are using on those fries, they need to keep it up cause it is oh so good...and their bbq sauce is one of kind and they add just the right amount to the pit beef sandwich. Man...I thoroughly enjoyed eating that sandwich at work...its a great go to meal, and the wait is not bad if you don't call ahead. You can just walk right up to the window and order. I was a little apprehensive at trying this place out the first time I went, because it literally looks like a little shack with a deck attached to it, so its carryout only, but man good food comes from many places so I tried to be open minded and in the end, it was well worth it.
