First time visit. Went with a group of about 12 people. The guys behind the bar were trying their hardest, but were overwhelmed. I did like that you can reserve the back space for a night. They definitely make sure you do not go into the reserved space. Even though there were only 4 people in that space, there were no exceptions. (Of course, if it had been my reservation, it is definitely a nice benefit!) The drinks were perfect and the atmosphere fun. The only other issue we had was how muggy it was in the building. This place is far from casual. You've gotta be dressed up when you come in no matter what day or time it is. It is just a bar tho so idk what's with the strict dress code. You'll be told to leave if your not up to par with there standards. Even if it's only one in the afternoon. The drinks aren't cheap. An idk what this Monday karaoke is cuz they haven't had it when I've come there. There bands are alright but they really don't have too much to offer. The place looks nice and the patio is a great place to relax but I'd prefer to go elsewhere. read more

Went here with an old classmate who was visiting from LA. We ordered drinks here and they were really watered down. Prices are typical, $7 a drink. The music was blaring and I could hardly hear my conversation. There is a dress code which is nice, but doesn't do too much if 1) I can't get a buzz from the liquid courage and 2) I can't hear people who are trying to talk to me. Clean place with a club vibe and nice decor. This place caters to an older crowd 30+ but is more chic than the Crocodile Lounge. Next time I come here I'll come with the intent on doing more dancing than talking and hopefully get some guys to pay for my drinks since I'd probably get diabetes from the processed sugars before I get drunk. read more

Monday afternoon, decided to stop in and check out the newer place in Modesto. Not sure what I expected after reading the previous reviews. However, what I found did not come close to anyone's descriptions. First, I would have a very hard time using the word "luxury bar" as some did. We sat at the bar (the only patrons in the place) and looked down the bar at an open utility closet filled with cleaning supplies and a ladder hanging on the wall. Over all, the place was nice but we felt lacked warmth. It was a bit sterile and cold feeling. We sat at the bar, the bartender did greet us took our orders. I had a dirty Goose with onions and my guest had dirty gin martini with olives. Now, how can you really mess that up? Well, they were the worst Martinis either of us have ever had! Ha put way to much "dirty syrup" in them....could hardly drink them, then charged $10 each. Price ok if they had been ok. After serving us our drinks, not another word from him again until I started to put on my coat. Which at that point asked if I wanted another. Mind you, we were the only patrons in the bar. He spent his time walking up and down the bar, watching football, on his cell or talking to other employes. Those who know me, know I am not an overly picky person and normally give a place a second chance. This place I will not, there are several other places within walking distance that far out shine tis bar. I make it to Modesto several times a year and have been very pleasantly surprised at some of the great downtown eateries and lounges, but this sadly is not one of them. read more

My first time here was in July. We ordered Moscato while pointing at the wine menu, but received Mojitos? When we asked our waitress what happened, she said those were moscatos. After we pointed to the wine menu she admitted her mistake and offered to fix it. We decided to keep the drinks but it was a very bizarre interaction. Went with a few friends here on a Friday evening and I really liked what they did to this place. Oil paintings hanging on the walls, live band on the 2nd floor overlooking the bar and a friendly crowd. Now for the downside! Careful when ordering premium drinks, the bar tenders seem to to pour the cheap stuff if your not paying attention. We ordered Ketel One and received Smirnoff instead! Downtown Modo doesn't have a lot to offer but our trip to The Boardroom saved the night!! Bartender eye candy that knows how to serve a drink. We go out a lot and these guys were hoping! Music was on point! Amazing bar back doubles as the chef. He worked up amazing bruschetta (loved it!) and an awesome Cobb salad. Presentation was taste hit the spot. Had business in the area and met a buddy for a few beers. First impression is the place has a clean modern look. I was told they do have live bands on occasion as well. It's a well stocked bar with ample beers on tap and what appeared to be a well stocked liquor cabinet. I was planning to eat with my buddy and his family so I didn't try any food nor can I confirm they have a kitchen. Good place to wet the whistle and watch a game on the numerous TVS. The "bored"room. This place is only eaten at out of its convenient location which at times I still try to avoid but normally can't because of group meet ups. The broth from the cabbage soup left a metallic or cleaning product after taste. ( note* I do not eat cleaning products but if the smell were to reflect that of cleaning products then yes it is very disturbing). The food is very boring as well as the atmosphere. This place had potential but there is zero consistency in the staff. Dress code seems To only apply to people the security guard wants to apply it to- people are stopped outside for not wearing collars, yet the place is full of people dressed worse. Went to meet up with some family from out of town and I didn't have a collared shirt or v neck. I was dressed casual but still couldn't get in. Love this place so far! It's gorgeous design and atmosphere are welcoming and classy! Love the 50's vibe with all the pictures of Dino and Frankie! Yummy dirty martini. Great beer selection and wine list has reasonable prices. Looks like my husband and I will be adding this place to our list of stops on our mini pub crawl dates. Good for girls night out too. This place is always fun. Some people complain about the no hats & collared shirt rule, but there are plenty of places to go if you just want a drink. There's nothing wrong with having a place in town to go if you want to dress nice or take a date. If you have a problem with looking nice and being around adults, then maybe this isn't your place. Beware, this place will rip you off if you let it. First, they advertise they offer food, but only Mon-Fri which I feel is false advertisement. Second, there's a server that will charge you for drinks you didn't order. Third, if you have a party and reserve a VIP table confirm your cost beforehand with a manager. All these things happened to me my first time patronizing. Went there last Saturday to celebrate my birthday with friends and purchased a VIP table for 1 bottle service, which I was told would be $150.00 only. At the end of the night, I got a surprise bill for $220.00. I was told the extra charge was due to additional drinks ordered when, in fact, I did not. Then I was told it was for taxes. Either way the whole thing was shady and the server had nerve to argue with me. The whole experience was embarrassing, beginning with having 8 guests join me for dinner and drinks, but no kitchen to serve the dinner. We had to go eat elsewhere, which was an adventure in downtown Modesto, only to then finish our night with the drink drama. Frustrating and embarrassing to say the least. Definitely not the way I expected my birthday celebration to go. I'll go back for the music and dancing, but with great caution for those drink charges! read more

Though it has quickly became a popular evening spot in Modesto, there are many other reasons to visit The Boardroom. Not only are their drinks top notch but their food is amazing. I have had lunch at The Boardroom a few times and also grabbed lunch to go. The staff is friendly and helpful in making decisions. The most recent sandwich I got to go for lunch was amazing. My wife and I frequent The Boardroom when we have a change to have a date night. Now that they added the outdoor seating with the near pop-out tvs I am sure The Boardroom will become more of a common place to find me. The Boardroom is a perfect example of what Modesto needs more of. So far they have not lowered their standards to increase bar sales like all other bars have in this area and I don't think they will ever need to. Chose to celebrate my birthday a few weeks ago here and I couldn't have been happier! This place really is the best in Modesto to hang out with friends and have a few drinks and some great food. Everyone is friendly, everyone is happy and everyone is there to relax and have fun. The band was great and set a great backdrop to our conversations and a bit of dancing. The dress code everyone keeps talking about just means a collared shirt. Is is so hard to put on a collared shirt guys? No, especially when the place is so nice and the atmosphere is so amazing. I came to the boardroom expecting the hospitable, good natured environment, not to mention the all around camaraderie that im so use to in modesto. however i was greeted with a sarcastic tone directed at my colleague for not wearing a shirt with a collar. mind you there were people sitting right near the door with t-shirts on. we pointed this out and the security just shrugged his shoulders and asked us to return when we had collared shirts or a sport coat.. (who the hell wears sport coats in 95 degree weather?!). i feel like i have been discriminated against and will definitely pass on this location in the future. my 500 dollar a week bar budget can be spent with less hassle elsewhere. read more
