Anyways i went out last Friday for a drink and at the door the "bouncer" refused to let my friend in because his shirt did not have a collar ?? So we were like ok whatever,I was kind of glad we didn't go in because this place is way overrated. As we turn to leave my friend points out to the door guy that guy sitting at the bar doesn't have a collared shirt on and the door guy responds that there is no dress code before 10pm?? My husband and and I love this place, however Saturday night we were with a group of people out for my husbands birthday and one of the guys in our group did not have a collard shirt on, he still looked very presentable. Ok, call it lack of experience which led to higher expectations of this place but i was completely underwhelmed. Looking for a cool spot to catch up with a friend over martinis and decided to give Boardroom a try because of the rave reviews of being upscale and classy. I was even excited about the dress code others were lamenting about! Boardroom did not offer up anything exceptional to be called classy. It's really just another bar with the routine bar hoppers with maybe better seating options. What earned the two stars was the really nice waitress (who took the bruschetta off our bill because we didn't touch it after two bites, also a yelp mislead) and the live music by Johnny & Kelly. read more

Nice atmosphere, not many gangsters and friendly staff. One star due to owner making us leave a table we had been at for two hours buying drinks due to people "buying bottles." The atmosphere was pretty nice, and the bartenders were amazing and we're aware of their surroundings, didn't have to wait 10 years for a drink, only big issue I have with this place was the music was out to date... Decent selection of 2000s hip hop/R&B, but wouldn't hurt to play something more recent with some bass to it, but I guess it's understandable since the crowd was more in the upper 20s/30s. Definitely open upstairs to the public to make more room to create the lounge feeling. read more

I was recently invited to the grand opening of The Boardroom in downtown Modesto on 1/29/11. This new bar/lounge blows any other downtown establishment out of the water. Great bartenders, classy decor, uptown music followed by a live band, awesome drink selections and a respectable crowd were prominent features on opening night. I was able to sample an old fashioned (old school cocktail), margarita on the rocks and a Great White on draft with friends while chatting and listening to great tunes. I have been here several times. The bartenders are always excellent: Ask for Fawn, Madison, or Roberto for the best service. Weekends nights have DJ and busy club crowd after 10. Horrible service. The 2 jerks at the bar spent a lot of time chatting with their beer-swilling buddies and each other. Hey guys, your number 1 priority is to provide drinks and food to your paying customers. Even when I went to the bar to try to pay my bill, I was ignored. They were too busy laughing with each other. Personally, I would fire all the wait/bar staff and just start all over. How tough is it to serve beer, bottled wine, and well drinks to patrons with obviously empty glasses? Too tough for this bunch, obviously. I just read the other Yelp reviews, and I had to laugh/groan. I was after reading the other reviews, expecting something elegant and sophisticated, coupled with dancing. Alas none of these came to be. Instead what i saw was a pretentious snob ridden bar with pricey drinks. This is the perfect place for those who have the depth of a tea saucer. Dance area....the perfect commercial for that was the one; 'where's the beef'. This is dancing in the aisles amid people trying to get by to go to the bathroom. The band plays on a small balcony on a balconyr above the lower bar floor, looking down on those below. NO one but the band is allowed on the balcony, nor is there room for anyone else anyway. The band-in-the-sky aspect then distances any dancer from the band, a great disconnect. The place is as such; a disconnect from anything resembling style or class. . read more

FINALLY, a bar in Downtown Motown that isn't packed wall-to-wall with 'roid shooting Jersey Shore casting call rejects and their low-self-esteem human punching bag girlfriends. It has the most impressive selction of imports and microbrews.....some of them on tap. This place is HEAVEN for those of us who actually appreciate real beer (pardon the digression, but most Modestans think that there are only two kinds of beer: domestic swill and light domestic swill. This is sometimes reflected in the beer selections of many local establishments.) The decor is very hip and modern while at the same time trying to evoke the Rat Pack era of the early '60s. The wait staff is very friendly and professional and the crowd is sophisticated and intelligent. To those of you who complain about the dress code and about the crowd being "snobby" there are plenty of ghetto, lowbrow establishments (ie Donoby's, White Hawk, O'Brian's, Club Suave......oh, wait, that place got shut down) for you to go to. Very nice place to go for a drink and enjoy the company of whoever you are going with. Clean, fast service, and a fun atmosphere. The crowd is of an older age, but if you don't want to be around ghetto people this is your get away. It cracks me up that people freak out and don't like the "no collar shit" rule. Plenty of other places to go in town without that rule. I enjoy it because it gives me an excuse to dress nice in a nice environment. These guys are Hella shady. They charge different amounts all night for same drink. I was drinking Cadillac Margherita with Don julio aneijo for $17-$19 all night and shots of Don julio aneijo for 15-18. Which is ridiculous. Then they ran out of anjieo and said only had repasado. Than tried to charge me $18 for repasado?!?!?!! I told them been charging me me 16 max for anjieo all night. How is repasado more??? Hella shady!!!! read more

Security at this place is ridiculous. Whoever is in charge of security should think about repeat customers and the way they treat their customers. Being new to the area, young and enjoy the occasional drink or two, my fiance and I caught wind of this place thru the grapevine and decided to try it out. First of all from the outside it looked really inviting. There is a dress code, nothing crazy. Just don't roll out of bed and try to come in lol. But once we walked in..not at all what I expected. First of all beautiful atmosphere, loved the lighting and of course sports..my fiance always needs a game nearby. I didn't have the pleasure of grabbing a bight, we had already had dinner. But food looked good and nice menu selection. The waitress was very pleasant and attentive. I will say what had me hooked was the live band. They played a awesome mix of things from 311 to Frank Ocean. I consider myself a music lover from every genre!! So that was a very pleasant surprise. Would definitely do another date night here. This place isn't bad drinks are pretty good nice variety of music but what I really disliked was the Caucasian security at the front door. My friend and I gave him our IDs and neither one of us is from here and we don't have California IDs. I'm African American and she's Caucasian, she handed him her ID first then I did and he asked me how long had I been in Modesto and said I'm supposed to have a California ID. For being my first time here it wasn't that bad. My friends and I came on a Friday night, arrived there around 9:30 and it was dead. We ended up leaving and coming back around almost 11 and then it was full of people. It's a really nice place but it is a bit small so it gets crowded. The bartenders are really nice and the drinks are good. They have a DJ (although I'm not sure if it's the same one they have every night) and he mixed different kinds of music. I recently just celebrated my 30th birthday here Friday 11/09/2018. I am very disappointed! I had reserved this a month ago and spoke to 2 employees prior so i can make sure i wanted to have it there and they both informed me that bottle service upstairs would be 2 bottles for 300 and that to have it upstairs you have to spend 500 and that service would be included. so that means 2 bottles and 200 spent in cocktails or beer. I felt this was a little too much but okay, fine ill go for it! As soon as i get there i get 2 bottles and i am being charged 700 as i just explained to the server girl what the deal was before she brought the bottles. NOW that she opened the bottles it cant be taken back !?!? did you not just hear what i said? so now i am asking to talk to the manager who then says he has NO time to talk to me that he is busy !? I am sorry but any one spending that amount of money you should make the time to talk to them!!!! this place was not accommodating at all and i never got to speak with any one i just kept getting hassled to pay for something completely different i didn't agree to. This is not San Francisco, nor L.A. or Vegas my point is this is downtown Modesto get it together! I do not recommend anyone to spend their money on bottle service here total rip off. read more
