A magical date night happened here! I think of all the Boathouse locations in RVA, this one is my favorite. The outdoor seating is situated right by a gorgeous lake and to have a delicious dinner while watching the sunset ... what gets better? It's definitely a pricey place but you're also paying for the view! We ordered the baked oyster sampler, calamari app, strawberry salad, and steak entree. Everything was delicious! The oysters were definitely a teaser... I wanted more but they were too dang expensive -,- calamari was especially amazing - I'm in love with their dips!!! Salad I would forgo next time..the maple glazed bacon was a fancy touch but honestly I didn't need to spend that much on some greens that could be easily tossed together at home. Steak was lovely! Again, I think it was paired with some great sauces :) I love a dinner place where they know how to make their sauces so I definitely loved this place overall! Always love this place. Atmosphere can't be beat!! Food was awesome and Gabe was great! We had crab cakes the seafood combination and the boathouse burger. All three dishes didn't disappoint! Great for a date night or even just a casual family dinner! Would recommend sitting inside if there is a long wait to sit outside. The view is very pretty but the inside of the restaurant doesn't do the view justice. It's not very bright until you get into the main dining area with a wall of windows. The walls and decor are fairly dark with dark colors in the lobby and bar area. We went for brunch and it was just okay... I was expecting more options on the menu. The parking can be difficult because many of the parking spots are for compact vehicles which makes it very hard to fit your normal sized vehicle in the leftover parking spots. Funny story from our visit, one of my friends asked for toast. The waitress let us know that they don't have toast. A few minutes later, she returned and said they only have bread but no toast. Savannan our server was wonderful and turned a negative situation into a lovely dinner. We had reservations at 4 PM on Sunday to celebrate our family birthdays. We were taken to our table, but no one seem to come over. That's when we went back to ask a hostess if she could send a server, she told us that the staff were on break and it would be 10 minutes or so and she would try to get us water. As we were gathering our things to leave Savannah arrived and was so gracious. She told us that she may not be our server however, she would get our drinks. For the rest the evening, she was attentive, and made sure everything arrived and we were glad we stayed. We had to look at the menu from our cell phones (it's dark and the font is tiny so that is fun). Then, we had to actually order and pay from our cell phone. No sever in sight. And we had to do this multiple times so our drinks and appetizers would come first....so running payment 6 times over the course of a meal was a joke. But to make things worse....remember how I said we had no server? Just someone who delivered the food... well we had an automatic 20% tip added to EVERY item we ordered. We were a party of two. The ordering process was less then customer friendly. Having to check out between every drink refill or food order was a pain. My wife and I and some friends tried the Boathouse tonight. The experience was certainly lessened by having to use the Toast system to order the food and pay. It presents itself (and prices itself) as a upscale restaurant . It was a pain to get the app set up and enter credit card info etc. lt's also kind of a pain o order on the app. The food was mediocre. Our food came several minutes earlier than our friends food even though we ordered about the same time. The worst thing is the AUTOMATIC 20% GRATUITY THAT THEY NEVER MENTIONED TO US! After I had paid my wife noticed that there was a notice on the back of the plastic sign that was sitting on the table. It was super irritating. The manager said it was put in place by the owners and there was nothing he could do. We wont be going back again. read more

What a beautiful patio! Right on the water with a nice breeze to cool you off. That gets 5 stars. After seeing Thursday drink and food specials on their website, we headed down to enjoy our first experience. First off, you can only take advantage of the specials if you sit at the bar. Ok, so we left our waterside table and went to the bar. The only food special was pizza. Of which I couldn't order since I have celiac disease. The drink specials were just normal happy hour prices, so no specials there. We each ordered a mixed drink to start. They came in plastic cups! I've only ever had drinks in a plastic cup at beach bars, and this is far from a beach bar. Both our drinks were shortchanged of alcohol. On the next round I ordered a shot and tonic water, my partner ordered wine. Well the shot I received was 25mls not the standard 45mls which it should have been. I was so furious I couldn't even say anything for I surely would have made a scene. We had finished our drinks and never saw the sunglassed, tattooed bartender again. We were going to order dinner, but since he never came back, we decided it was time to go. We finally went up to the bar to ask for the tab and had the pleasure of also receiving a nasty look from him.???? So, horrible experience for what could have been a great evening. No, I will not be going back to The Boathouse. Now I know why they have such a big ad in Chesterfield Living magazine. They're sure not getting any word of mouth business. read more

Met friends for brunch .. you scan the menu on your phone and have to order each course separately if you want it served that way. $6.50 for French press coffee .. then ordered chicken and waffles - not impressed. The chicken was almost burnt on one side and the coating ( whatever it was ) was hard and tasteless. The waffle wasn't much better. I love the atmosphere, great service. We loved the decor - really neat looking restaurant. Food was good, not great. We had a really great time but just was not overwhelmed. It is a shame because when I moved away 12 years ago this restaurant as Sunday Park was one of the nicest in the area. My tuna meal was good, my husbands ribs were over cooked and definitely did not fall off the bone. We saw another table get the ribs and theirs looked a lot better - we were not overly impressed. I'm not one to send food back, but would not order them again. Our server Liz was great I recommend getting her if you can especially if you have food allergies, she will make sure to take care of you. It was about 15 degrees outside so we did not get to enjoy the fire pits outdoors, but have heard it's beautiful outside when the weather is nice. For seating sit in the back or up stairs, NOT In the front- they must have had the silverware drawer behind us- wait staff kept grabbing the silverware out and making a lot of noise behind our table that it actually was hard to hear us talking at some points and was very irritating We made reservations and they were very accommodating. This is not a must do again for us. Edit: I had originally reviewed as a 3 because of my husbands meal and the loud noise, but I am changing to a 2 because I was up all night not feeling well from the tuna I believe. A delightful lunch or dinner spot right on the water. The Boathouse has an amazing menu from beginning (apps) to end (desserts) that is creative, has excellent quality food and is served by an attentive staff to top it all off. I would consider it a "high end" restaurant and it isn't a cheap night out, although their lunch menu is a little less expensive. They do have cheaper options like their pizzas, but if you enjoy quality seafood - it's a must try! The last time I was there we tried the lobster sliders for an app and they were a great starter. Their shrimp and grits for an entree were off the charts good! Additionally they have great bar and wine service including some local (from VA) craft brews, too. Outdoor seating is a real pleasure with a nice view of the water. And if all of that wasn't enough - sunset on the reservoir can be breathtaking if you're there at the right time on a clear evening (which sadly wasn't the case on my last visit), but then again - I haven't been to a restaurant that CAN control the weather. read more

What a disappointment. Still a beautiful view and good food, but after years as as a loyal customer I won't be back until you fix your "Permanent" contactless ordering. A MANDATORY 20% service charge that doesn't go to the server but goes back to the restaurant is not fair to the server or the guest. Worse,, using your app to order my own food was a joke. I don't spend $200 on dinner to get no service better then Grub Hub. BTW this system does nothing to help with Covid-19. Please bring back a real restaurant experience and I will return. read more

Every so often, I've been persuaded to have dinner at The Boathouse and every time, I regret it. The only thing this place has in its favor is the location. The hostess station outside has always been overwhelmed, the food is nothing special and again, last Friday night, my entree (chicken Chesapeake) was overcooked. I gave the second star because the wait staff was helpful and available when we needed. The new reservation and ordering arrangements have only made it more complicated and less desirable to be there. How can they not figure out a way to expedite your table's order? It should not take four separate credit card transactions to get drinks, apps, entrees, & wine to come out at the right times. There are many other places where you can have a nice meal, enjoy the sunset, without having to hover at the entrance to make sure you get seated and relax without having to attend to timing your dining experience. read more
