Server quickly got our drinks and took our order. The food was yummy and definitely hit the spot. We ordered 5 pounds of shrimp, calamari, and soft shell crab basket. Besides the shrimp, i enjoyed the soft shell crab basket that came with 2 crabs and lemon pepper fries. The fries were delicious :D. This location is right in the heart of Downtown Burbank, just a short jaunt from the AMC 16. Based on that alone, this location does get very busy and typically has a wait. Make sure to get there early, as the wait list does fill up while there is limited dine in tables, along with patio seating. Tables are well distanced and there is a large section inside reserved for pickup of either 3rd party or phone orders. Onto the food, it is a hit or miss quite often here. One day the food will be spot on, the next it will be completely off. Having ordered typically the same items each time, it really comes down to how it is that day. I'm a fan of their fried catfish, which is usually excellent with just enough crisp and decent sized pieces. The last experience, the fish was barely crisp and I couldn't even pick up a piece without it breaking in half. Other times, the fish would hold up well even after being dipped in sauce. As far as the bags of seafood, the spice level is never the same. One day mild will be borderline spicy, the next it may taste like none at all. Or they may completely give you the wrong sauce. Other locations seem to have the consistency down to a science, whereas this location, it really is a crapshoot. So just beware and check your order carefully. Overall the food is good, and the market prices for most of the seafood are fair, though the crab is overpriced. With more and more competition out there, while boiling crab may be the best name in the game, other places are catching up and maybe even surpassing them. read more

I'm gutted by the stark difference in service and quality that I experienced here at The Boiling Crab tonight. As a regular, I have to preface this with the fact that I have boasted about this company and written only positive reviews in the past. (Hence why I'm utterly gutted by my experience.) The crawfish was so over cooked and mushy that simply deshelling it was near impossible. In my pound of mussels I shockingly bit into two different pea crabs and although this is a common occurrence for shellfish I had never experienced this at this restaurant. I also ordered a serving of the potatoes and normal that means 3 red potatoes, but I only received 2....these seem like minor things but for an establishment that is normally on top of everything and superior at what they do.....it felt like a never ending train wreck ): It's hard to write so negatively about a place that I love so much, and I don't know if it was the cooks, the season from which the seafood came from, or the fact it was a busy Friday...maybe it just all compounded into what I just went through...either way, Im hesitant to return to this location. read more

The last time I was at Boiling Crab was at its original location in Alhambra. This one used to be in Burbank and so much bigger. We got there at 5:50pm on Friday and the wait was already 30-40 mins and within the hour, it went up to 75 mins. Be warned that they will not seat you unless your entire party is there. They will hold your table for a bit until everyone arrives. I personally was not thrilled with my meal. The seafood is great and jumbo shrimp was very jumbo, but I didn't like that they would cook our entire order together. Shrimp had to be cooked separately from the crab. Everything is ordered as a side, so corn, potatoes, sausages are all separate. The sauce was good, but needs much more garlic. I think our local crab boil here in SCV is much better. This part of the is solely based on the Wait time. My family got there at 6:30 on a Friday. Yes I am aware of the time we arrived and how busy it is but with that being said it's still a bit excessive to tell people the wait would be 1hr45-2hr wait and have them on a yelp wait list. When mine said we were next I showed the hostess bc she said to let us know when we got the text that we were up bc we only had 10 min to go and show them the message. Imagine how annoyed I was to be told that they don't really go by the waitlist to seat people. We were starving, cold, and in pain due to sitting on those hard wooden benches they have in the waiting area. Plus we were told 2hrs which we decided to wait but we ended up waiting almost 3 hours because they kept seating people outside. I understand that it's busy and they're doing the best they can but they need to have a better system because it just turns into chaos or at least allow reservations. Now the food was great, no complaints about that. We ordered the shrimp, lobster and crab legs w/ the Whole Shebang no spicy because we all have issues with spice. The crab legs had little to no meat on them so that sucked but I just wanted to try it but next time I'll stick to the shrimp. My family had the lobster and they loved it. I ordered a Michelada and it was extremely spicy almost for me to consume, they put too much Tapatio in it I'm assuming. I wish our server would've had been a bit more thorough and asked if I wanted it spicy or not but I know they were swamped so I could've been more specific but I'll know for next time. The ambiance was chill compared to the waiting area which was chaotic and packed since it was raining but either way we enjoyed our meal and the music was great, all early 2000's music which was great. So just be aware that of the time you're going because that will play a factor especially here. read more

I just want to say that I've been to Boiling Crab a handful of times, but this is my first time since being diagnosed with celiac disease and wanted to put out a review for my fellow gluten free friends out there who get symptoms when eating gluten. I've seen online that their sauces are gluten free and to avoid the fried stuff, but had to make sure. I emailed ahead of time which they confirmed the sauces are gluten free but said to alert the server when there so they can be extra careful. I did just that and ate without any problems! It's always nice to add a spot in the roster of places safe to eat out! It gets busy so make sure to account for a small wait. We went on a Wednesday and there was a short wait of 25 min for inside (no wait for outside but it was cold and there's no outdoor heaters) Overall a great time! read more

So our server was so friendly and we came in 25 to 30 minutes before closing which really sucks but they still accommodated us! The oysters are surprisingly really good and not that badly priceD! I love coming here after work with my friends. We love to get the shrimp, king crab legs, or Dungeness crab. The whole shabang is the best sauce in my opinion. You can customize the level of spice in your bag. The food is fresh and comes out piping hot. The servers are very nice and the atmosphere is a nice casual one. I came to pick up some Boiling Crab. Obviously, there is no indoor dining right now, so I called and put in my order and did a pick up. Typically, it is super hard to find parking, but there are various short term pick up spots, which I was grateful for because I wanted to go in and out. There are a lot of outdoor dining happening, so there was quite a few people out in patio area leading towards the restaurant. But, it was not super crowded, so I was not too worried. There was no line when I got there and I was given my order pretty quickly. I think the whole pick up process took about 10 minutes, which I thought was great. Once I got home, I ate some delicious boiling crab. My go to is shrimp, sausages, corn and fries all with the whole she-bang sauce. Sometimes (I think it depends on the season) the shrimps can be super small, but the shrimps were really good when I picked it up. I also typically ask for separate bags, so the sauce can be evenly distributed. One small complaint that I had was the sauce was very stingy this time. There was just enough sauce to barely cover the shrimp. Aside from that, I think it was a great meal. I also suggest asking for the paper that they use at the restaurant to cover the table. Most boiling crab locations have really friendly service but this location really stands out on how they go out of their way to make sure you have what you need. They even offer to refill your water without you asking. We went during December so we got to see the staff in fun Christmas attire. Ugly Christmas sweaters, a self made Christmas Tree dress and even a Grinch. The area where this branch is located also has festive photo opts take some fun pics! But what also impressed me was the quality of the food. The fries were hot, crunchy on the outside and soft on the inside. It was really good. Another highlight was the chicken wings. I never would think to order wings at Boiling Crab but it was really tasty. Lightly battered and a good size meaty wing. The calamari was okay and I didn't have the fish but my boyfriend really enjoyed it. With the sauce, mild is perfect if you want a kick but still taste everything. But if you can handle your spice medium is really tasty but would require water to cook your tongue since it builds as you eat. XXX is really spicy and only for those who no longer want to taste the natural flavors of what they are eating :P. Also, a tip...before your hands are covered with sauce, pull yourself a healthy supply of napkins so you don't have to wrestle the napkin box when you need one. This spot never disappoints! Definitely a 4.5/5!! I've been here at least a dozen times now and it's always a very decent experience. It's also always a little messy as you're mostly eating with your hands. I'd recommend not wearing a brand new white shirt although they do provide disposable plastic bibs to protect you from any splatters. It's located near the Burbank mall so it's very walkable from the various parking lots around the area. Our go to order is always the calamari, an order of the Cajun fries (mild), and 2lbs of the shrimp, whole shabang (medium) - lately we've added the sausage and corn. This is plenty of food for two people and after tip it's usually about $85. The food has consistently been good. The fries are always very crispy and the calamari are huge and seasoned well. The sausage has not disappointed - it's a little smoky and one link is a generous addition. The whole shebang has been a game changer. You definitely need to get this sauce as it's a mix of all their sauces. It's garlicky, it's lemony and spicy depending on the spice level you choose. The medium is a perfect middle ground for anyone who likes spiciness but doesn't want to sweat the whole meal. We once got the hot, and it was too much for us. However, my one complaint is that the spiciness is sometimes inconsistent. Sometimes the medium is perfect and other times it comes out either too spicy or too mild. The service here has been consistently OK. Sometimes it's much faster and a few times we've had issues flagging down a refill. Their service model is more team oriented so different people will be coming up to you and helping as needed. The main issue with the service comes from them being really busy. It'll take a little longer to get your food when they are super busy and we have often had the shrimp boil come before the fries and calamari. I am impressed with how quickly they buss down the tables and how stocked the wash station is. The restaurant itself is not very big on the inside but they do often accommodate large groups. I've seen parties of 20 seated in the middle of the restaurant with all the tables put together. The patio outside is also very nice when it's not too cold or hot. My biggest recommendation for this place is to be patient! They are very popular on the weekends and for dinner. My longest wait time was an hour and half at 7pm on a Friday but the average wait time is about ~30 mins. You can sometimes also add yourself to the wait list on Yelp but at peak times they tend to shut that option off. It's been worth the wait so far and with the shops around it's very easy to kill some time! I love coming here for a date night and it's also a great spot to meet with friends as it's super shareable. If you don't mind the mess this place is awesome!! read more

Ummm why does it take almost three hours to get a seat for two people??? My bf and I got half pound shrimp each of us and fries... we were done in 20-30 minutes. We had to hurry bc the kitchen and restaurant were closing. And the limes barely had any juice and were so dry and difficult to squeeze. The hostess seemed like she was so done with day which I don't blame her because she kept telling everyone the same thing in a very obnoxious way.
