It was my first time at gen! There were a good amount of people dining in for lunch but it wasn't crazy packed, Elijah made sure to explain how ordering works. There are a lot of things to be excited about when you go to kbbq, but often times it's so busy and hot you forget why you're actually there, but as always an empty stomach to start your evening is the road to an exciting adventure. Ethan, our waiter was not only incredibly friendly but offered recommendations as to what to try and his expertise is very much a reason why we enjoyed eating here so much. On top of that he made sure we had enough to drink with how hot it was, and I'm never without an Arnold Palmer nearby. The food at cooked ourselves was all pretty tasty, bulgogi is my go to at kbbq and it came out very nicely, on top of that we had some garlic chicken, some calamari and these very delicious dessert pancakes that were wonderful to end the meal on. I don't know when I'll be in the area again for something so tasty, but I'm so grateful I could start off my vacation with someone like Ethan, he really made the entire meal one to remember. We had a really nice experience overall! The food was good I'd give it about an 8/10. For an AYCE spot, the price is super reasonable, so it's definitely worth checking out. The ambiance was okay. The food quality is really good for an all you can eat. Service is excellent. My issue is the meat portions are so small. We were a group of 6 people and some of the meat dishes were 2 pieces. Each one of us would get one bite of meat every 10-15 minutes. They wouldn't allow us to order more than 1 order of the same meat at a time so this really slowed down our meal by the time we cooked each one. Came today, Saturday August 15 @ 2:40. Rude service from the hostess in the front. Literally this girl tried seating our party of 6 in one small booth with 1 grill. Off bat her facial expression was definitely annoyed when we asked to be seated elsewhere. Not only that, she kept dropping everything.. from the stand where they serve beef jerky- didn't even bother picking it up. My uncles literally picked it up and put in on the counter for her. She then called her manager and he gave us the option to sit in the back. We ended up sitting there. Gen has huge sales on gift cards at costco nowadays. You can get like a $100 dollar gift card for $65-70 bucks. So your meal is like 25-30% off. Even with that, I wouldn't come back again. The meats were very poor quality. Freezer burnt briskets. Side dishes weren't good either. Rice was mushy. Maybe it's a bad spot, but almost everything just wasn't really good. I'm so used to driving down to Alhambra or Koreatown for some tasty Korean barbecue and this place did not disappoint!! Gen Korean BBQ serves some great food and at a reasonable price, especially compared to others. At $31 for a weekend price, that's pretty incredible. You get about 30 choices and a bunch of appetizers included. Also comes with rice and salad. Standard Korean BBQ place where you cook your meats and eat. Be careful what you order, though, because if you can't finish it, you get charged $5 for wasting an item. Pretty standard at these places. The ball was really dropped with the service, though. As my wife and I were seated, we waited for a waiter, that never showed up. After about 20 minutes, we pulled a random waiter from another side and asked what the heck was happening. The dude, whose name was Ethan, was very kind and amazing. He took over and helped us with everything we needed. He was a great guy and deserves the recognition, and I hope he gets recognized for going above and beyond. However, apparently we had a girl waiter who was supposed to be our main waiter but instead avoided us and did not assist us. When she was confronted and was told that she basically ignored us and we were upset, her reaction was to look at us and say"I don't care," like she thought I did not see or hear her, but guess what, girly! I did! Needless to say, this obviously pissed me the F off, and I had to inform management of the issue. The manager apologized and corrected the issue and made sure we were taken care of. I don't like to be this crazy about these things, but sometimes you just have to in order to bring the attention of management to this behavior from people who clearly don't want to work. Aside from the issue that the manager did resolve, Ethan attended to us well and provided us with everything we needed, and our experience was great while we were attended by him. I've never been to this Gen location but decided to give it in a try since I was shopping in the area. The server was friendly however forgot to bring out some of the sides until after asking a few times. I asked for smaller portions which the server assisted, with the exception of the Korean fried chicken. She mentioned that the portion was small however it wasn't that small and my party was not able to finish it. The bussers and runners were fine but one hostess and server were unfriendly, unwelcoming, and everything felt so rushed and forced. I used to love coming here when I went through a big KBBQ phase a few years ago but I recently came back again for my friend and her boyfriend who were in town craving KBBQ and recommended this place only to find out I was wrong in doing so. I ordered the japchae and my friend ordered the deep fried mandu and they were colder than our water. It was unfortunate too because I opted to not get the ayce dinner and chose the appetizer as my meal as I was not that hungry which left me only to take a couple bites before I couldn't do it anymore. My friend had to warm up her mandu on the pan. The service - extremely slow, they seem very understaffed and drinks came out waaaaayyy after the side condiments were already given to us. But the part that upset me the most was that there was a bug swimming in my sauce and when we brought it up to the waiter we did not even get new sauces. He did apologize and I do feel bad for writing a bad review as he was nice, but did not do anything to solve the problem by at least bringing us new sauces. The other thing was, I was charged for an entire meal despite only ordering an appetizer which I was already too upset to even bother bringing it up to him because at that point we just all wanted to leave. I am going to have to give this location another try I came here not too long ago, I believe it was on December 18. I had my family in tow. You were a small party of four. Unfortunately, the one thing that made this is a very memorable was the terrible service that we later received when our original server had to go on lunch. When our original server was helping us, everything was phenomenal. The speed of service was insane. He put in a request for a certain item for us and even before he could leave our table, the item was being delivered. I was absolutely floored. I've never seen that kind of efficient service like that at any restaurant. He was fantastic. Unfortunately, all of that took a turn for the worst and changed when he had to go on his break. The woman who replaced him for a while was terrible. He not only had a terrible attitude, but she also had the worst expression on her face. She approached and asked us if we needed anything, but you could tell it was definitely NOT what she wanted to do. I feel like she hates her job. The way that she looked at you and she asked if you need anything. It's like that daggers in her eyes. Exceptionally rude. He doesn't seem to care very much for her tables. But then again she's just filling in for the other guys so maybe that's why she act like she really doesn't care. I feel like her ideal situation would've been to have no tables or to have tables that all needed nothing from her. Unfortunately, that is not how things work. Especially when you work at a place like an all you can eat Korean barbecue house, people are going to need things all the time. The food that we had was great. Everything was nicely prepared. There were always busters coming around to remove empty plates for us. That was nice. The one thing that really ruined our entire meal was that lady who became our server when our first one went on break. I am hoping that not all of the other servers are like that.
