My favorite seafood boil joint from Cali has finally made it to Boston! The Boiling Crab is located right in Harvard Square and is just as good as the locations in Cali. My order is pretty much the same always. 1 pound shrimp the whole Shabang medium with corn. Also can't forget the Cajun fries! So excited that Boiling Crab opened in Cambridge! I love the one in San Diego so I had to come when I heard they opened one in Harvard Square. The building is so New England with the cottage style house and it really feels like you're in a crab shack! We walked in without a reservation at around 8:30pm on a Friday night and we were seated immediately. The staff was super attentive and welcoming. The food was delicious!! For seasoning, you must try the Whole Sha-bang! You really can't beat this taste when you're looking for Cajun style seafood. Between 2 people, we ordered a pound of shrimp with potatoes as well as an order of the snow crab legs. As of May 2022, market price for a snow crab order is $44. Let me tell you, my boyfriend wasn't into crab until he tried the crab legs here. He was blown away and after our meal here, it's definitely safe to say he likes crab now!! One recommendation I have is to be aware of the spice level when you order. They're very generous when it comes to spice so I would say order one level lower than you usually do when it comes to how spicy you like your food to be. The sauce was good but I hope they can add more butter to it. Also disappointed that they dont come with a corn and a potato in each bag. You have to pay extra for it. I've been a longtime Boiling Crab fan--one spot in Los Angeles was my go-to high school favorite and I also would go to the one in Sacramento after moving to NorCal. I was super excited to hear that one had found its way to Cambridge and it did not disappoint! Fantastic food! The raw oysters were large and fresh. FINALLY they opened up in MA. Full disclaimer there are definitely opening woes that they're still working out but the signature sauce is still damn good. Get the whole shabang with medium spicy level and you won't regret it. The gumbo with rice was also spot on and they have free refills for soda. Major downside was the wait time, we were the first ones in at 3PM but it took them about 40-45 minutes to cook the King crab and Lobster while the shrimp came out in like 10 mins so we were sitting for a while just wondering where the rest of the food was. Only other suggestion or complaint would be that they don't have a combo or any specials so everything is a la carte and mostly market price so it adds up. Overall I'm biased based on my experiences with the CA locations and just happy that they're finally here. They need to do a better job marketing because the opening was very unknown. read more

The seafood boil itself was pretty underwhelming. If you don't order "extra juicy", your bag is pretty dry and the flavors just aren't there. If you're ordering the shrimp or lobster, you should also expect it to come whole so shrimp aren't deveined and lobster isn't cleaned out. We were mostly annoyed that the boils don't come with base things like corn or potatoes -- you have to order them separately. You also can't choose the weight of your order. The lobster is what it is. I'd also forego the gumbo -- it's pretty watery and flavorless but I would absolutely order the lemon pepper fries and fried calamari again. Overall, if you're looking for a nice seafood boil with all the included fixings, I'd say go the extra 30 or so minutes to Capt Loui in Braintree..it's worth the time and the money. read more

My partner and I decided we wanted to have a fun night at home celebrating our anniversary but still wanted a good meal so we decided to get take out from the boiling crab. We ordered shrimp in medium shabang and got some sides of corn, rice, sausage, and extra sauce. When we got home we were so excited to set everything up but when we unpacked the shrimp it was rapidly evident the shrimp were bad. Every single shrimp in that bag was mush. Some shrimp managed to to maintain structural integrity right up until you started to peel it and then once the flesh was separated from the shell it would fall apart. The vast majority of the shrimp however did not have the privilege of giving me any hope the meal could be salvaged because they had fallen apart and had started to emulsify into the sauce. I truly wish I was exaggerating but there was not a single edible shrimp in the bag. We decided to rally and make the best out of what was edible and the corn was great but the sausage had a strange texture. I've come to expect more from this chain given how this has never happened when I've dined in and it's hard not to wonder if they needed to offload bad product and were banking on me not having the energy to drive all the way back and ask for edible food or my money back. They were right. I would give no stars but my partner said the host who gave him the order was very kind so one star for him and one star for the corn. read more
