Excellent food. Oyters are so yummy. Ink pasta is amazing with scallops. Fish n chips are also very good. Our server was very good and the place is spacious. Theres also patio sitting. Must make a reservation if you don't want to wait. We got lucky to just get seated without a reservations. It was our last day in Boston and was so happy that we're able to have our dinner here.

Cozy little Italian restaurant in Boston. We came to Boston early on our road trip with the sole purpose of eating dinner here and was very glad we got there early, as there was already a line forming by restaurant open. The combination of it being limited seating (it holds less than 20 people) and being a popular spot makes it quite hard to get in without a long wait, so I would recommend right when it opens. Food wise, we got the Squid Ink Pasta and Calamari. The calamari was the perfect combination of crispy on the outside, but soft on the inside, which I find a lot of restaurants don't do a great job of doing. The squid ink pasta was also delicious and on par with any quality Italian restaurants in NYC. I would come back again if I'm ever in the Boston area and want a nice Italian restaurant. Also this place is CASH ONLY so be prepared before coming.

Wow - another home run meal! Today was the third time we've been to the Daily Catch on Hanover in the last 10 years. This time we brought another couple with us. We arrived well before opening time to ensure we could get a table. We were the first ones in and we chose the 4-top right across from the kitchen prep table. We are able to watch the cook breakdown the fresh lobster and get things prepared for lunch service. The Asian man that was doing the food prep and meal cooking was a machine. So fast and precise. I really enjoyed watching him as well as the server / mgr take care of taking and delivering orders and everything else. Our group of four ordered as follows: - Shrimp, Scallops and Broccoli with Linguini in a Red sauce plus extra Garlic - Shrimp and Calamari with Linguini in a White (Scampi-like) sauce - Scallops with Linguini in a Red sauce - Littleneck Clams in a White (Scampi-like) sauce - Stuffed Calamari appetizer To a person, we enjoyed our meals. Both meals the white sauce felt it was a bit heavy on the white wine in the sauce. I can't wait until the next time we return to Boston - mostly for the food!

We did not eat inside the restaurant itself, but we did do the takeout menu as we did not want to sit down and eat. Was not the full menu but had a lot of things we wanted to try. The people were kind and friendly. We ordered the 1. Ink Pasta 2. Clam Chowder Both were really good and price was worth it. It may not look much, but it does fill you up. It does cost quite a bit, but definitely worth the money. We got the food really quick as well. The pasta was nice and warm and full of butter. I like the chowder too even though it did give me lots of gas.

Ambiance: The restaurant is lively but very small, so be prepared for a line that can get pretty long. Seating is first-come, first-served, and it's cash only. Calamari Meatballs: An interesting dish, though not my favorite. The flavor had a bit of a strange aftertaste, but the sauce was light and tasty. It comes with two regular-sized meatballs, so it's more of a starter than a entree. Lobster Fra Diavolo: Fantastic! Generous portions of seafood and pasta, with the lobster cooked perfectly (soft, buttery, and delicious). The other seafood was also very fresh, and the sauce had just the right amount of spice.

A small hole-in-the-wall type of restaurant. The locals recommended we stop by here for lunch while visiting Boston and it was well worth it! The kitchen is right next to the dining area so you can watch the chef in action. All the dishes were flavorful but I'd say my top dish was the clam pasta. The Monkfish Marsala does have a sweet taste to it and a nice aroma. We definitely came out of there fully stuffed and likely will come back in the future! Be aware that they take cash only.

It's a small, cash only restaurant. I came on a Monday afternoon. Tourists were coming in. The server was nice and friendly. The pasta was served in the pan. It was good but not memorable. They serve a little bread with EVOO. Portion was generous.

The Daily Catch might be my favorite restaurant in Boston. I've been to the North End twice, and both times I ended up eating here. First off, the bread they give as an appetizer is really good with the olive oil and vinegar. But the star of the show is definitely the Black Pasta Aglio Olio. It's made with squid ink pasta, which gives it that black color, and it's tossed in garlic, olive oil, and parsley. The pasta has this nice chewy texture, and the little pieces of calamari add a subtle seafood flavor. It looks so simple, yet it's incredibly addicting. The Shrimp, Scallop, Broccoli & Linguine was also delicious, especially those whole pieces of scallop. I'm already waiting for my next excuse to go back again.

CASH ONLY I love this place. It's a Boston staple for me. The squid ink pasta is sooo good but I came this weekend and the portion size has definitely gone down a bit. You can order half or full and when we got the entree, it was so much tinier than I remember, I thought it was the half size lol. Other than that, the flavor and everything was still amazing. We also got the lobster fra diavolo and it was solid. I definitely didn't enjoy it as much as the squid ink. The inside is pretty small and you might need to share a table with people. This also isn't the type of place where you loiter for 2 hours because there's always a line. We came right when it opened at lunch and after sitting there was already a line forming. Would definitely recommend the squid ink and coming for lunch!

Great location and lively atmosphere. This spot is an institution in the North End. We really wanted to just chill at the bar but nobody was leaving. Our server Tapanga was awesome and super easy going and didn't rush us. The calamari platter was amazing and the Crab Cake Special, though small was delicious. Great spot and lively bar.

One of my favs....nope, definitely my favorite when I visit Boston. The black pasta Alfredo is to die for. I went here with some friends who've never been. We ordered mussels and calamari for an appetizer which they loved. We agreed to share and got my favorite, a full order of the black pasta Alfredo. They wanted to try the black pasta with the calamari (I forgot the name) and the monkfish. And of course, everyone liked the black pasta Alfredo the best. The black pasta with the chopped up calamari was good, but wasn't a wow. The monkfish was sweet. Kind of reminded me of caramel corn after taste. I will stick with the black pasta and Alfredo.

Alfredo ($29 for just pasta + sauce and no seafood at all?! Nonsense)

I remember coming here for the first time when I was in college (about a decade ago) and the food quality was top notch, and became my favorite place for monthly pasta night with my friends. Their squid ink black pasta with seafood was magnificent. I decided to make a visit as I was around the neighbor this week and, boy I was disappointed with my lunch. We ordered squid ink black pasta with classic alfredo sauce, house salad, and calamari stuffed meatballs. The pasta was good, and sauce was great. (And there was no seafood in there, just pasta + sauce for $29) salad was.. salad. meatballs - I'd never get them again, underseasoned and bland. Service was pretty good and I still love the decor of this place where I can see what's going on with kitchen. The main reason I am giving three stars is due to its price and cash only policy. I can't believe they are still keeping that policy whereas their waterfront location accepts credit card. We had to stop by ATM after noticing the sign. Just unbelievable. And I can't justify simple alfredo sauce + pasta would be $29, I can make 4 servings of this at home for under $10. For two small dishes and one pasta, we paid $70 including tip, which is insane. I don't think I'd come back again. So sad to see my favorite place to become such an overpriced just-ok place.

We had high hopes, but the experience was underwhelming. The restaurant is very tight with limited space, and we waited over an hour just to get in. The server was attentive, which we appreciated, but the rest fell short. The bread was stale--hard, flavorless, and very disappointing. I ordered the lobster fra diavolo, which was just okay, nothing memorable. My friend had the shrimp scampi and wasn't impressed either. I tried a bite, and the first taste was awful. The flavor did improve as I ate more, but it still wasn't great. After such a long wait, the meal simply wasn't worth it.

The Daily Catch Reviews in Other Languages

Ask the Community - The Daily Catch

Is the Hanover location taking reservations?

I know that it was recently. I don't know if they changed it now that Gov. Baker lifted some more of the restrictions.

    Are they a BYOB?

No. BYOB is illegal in downtown Boston. There are only 3 legal BYOBs within Boston city limits, all in outlying neighborhoods.

    Can do take-out order?

Yes! I have witnessed people doing take-outs and home deliveries.

What's the best time to go to avoid a long line?

Probably during the week in between lunch and dinner ~3pm. It's easier if you go alone or with one other person as they fill their tables, even if you don't know the other people sitting with you.

If I pay $75 for your Lobster dish will you respect me in the morning or will you just call me a tourist and be done with me?

Tourist, unless its paired with a $75 wine

Started with the cup of clam chowder that comes dripping from the cup. They use a lot of dill here and come out hot. A bit on the salty side but oyster cracker helps with that. The lobster mac and cheese came with a salad. The lobster mac had a nice broiled cheese top and a creamy inside. Nice lobster and cheesy flavor to it. I got the warm lobster roll and changed it to come with onion rings for $1. The onion rings tasted homemade. Slight crisp to it and thick onions. The lobster roll was massive and the amount of lobster it came with was incredible. Poured the hot butter and squeeze lemon on it for an amazing bite. We walked into a simple counter-service space with limited indoor seating, the kind of place that feels more like a grab-and-go stop than a sit-down lunch spot. Even with its small footprint, there was a steady stream of customers coming in for one of the signature sandwiches, and the energy of the room stayed practical and focused on getting orders out efficiently. The lobster roll is the clear standout. We ordered one and found it generously filled with lobster meat, making it feel substantial compared to many other lobster rolls around the city. Whether you choose it hot with butter or cold with mayo, the focus stays on the lobster itself rather than overwhelming it with extra ingredients. The toasted roll added just enough texture without taking away from the filling. Although the lobster roll gets most of the attention, the rest of the menu offers plenty of options if seafood is not what you are looking for. There are oversized sandwiches, soups like clam chowder, and classic sides that make it easy to find something for different tastes. The portions are generous overall, making the prices feel reasonable considering the amount of food you receive. The service was quick and efficient, which fits the fast-paced counter-service concept. The staff moved through orders with speed, and the food came out without much delay. The biggest thing to keep in mind is the limited seating, especially during lunch hours or peak tourist seasons in the North End. If the dining area is full, taking your food to go or finding a nearby outdoor spot can be a better option. Overall, Pauli's is a great stop if you are looking for a satisfying lobster roll without an overly formal seafood restaurant experience. The generous portions, straightforward menu, and convenient location make it an easy place to visit while exploring the North End, especially if lobster rolls are at the top of your list.
