I had ... hopefully, a one-off experience. We went and ordered our food, we got the beer and the icecream (eat dessert first :) ) and sat to wait on our order. Decided to come for the VEGAN food. Funky inside, lots of seating. But... we waited and waited and waited. Others that came in also waited and started going to the front. Eventually I went too. We had been waiting almost an hour. The ticket machine had stopped working, so they weren't even working on the orders. Which I understand... BUT you knew we ordered food. You didn't notice that NO food was coming out? I've always wanted to try this place out when they first opened and finally got the time to before I left Hilo! It's located next to Bears' Coffee & Deli on Keawe St. There's only street parking available so during busy lunch hours may make it difficult to find a good stall. Upon entering, we ordered from the counter and sat ourselves in one of the open tables either inside or outside. I got the tempeh (fermented soybean) reuben sandwich with Okinawan sweet potato as my side. The food smelled amazing! This was my first time trying tempeh, and I was super excited. My first bite was definitely not what I expected LOL I thought my sandwich was super sour which most likely was due to the overwhelming amount of sauerkraut. Aside from the sauerkraut, the sandwich itself wasn't too bad. Definitely different from what I'm used to ordering. This place is more on the healthier side as the sandwiches and burger didn't seem too oily with a range of different sides to choose from. Came across this kombucha bar that has bomb food! Service was fast and attentive and all of our entrees tasted really fresh! The restaurant is colorful in and out and reminded me of pele's kitchen in Pahoa! Bought some kombucha and chocolates as well that were also delicious. The brownie did need more salted caramel !!! They use local ingredients, and don't hold back on the fresh veggies and creative combinations. There are options for pretty much anyone with any dietary considerations. There was a LOT of perfectly cooked fish, cucumbers, bean sprouts, kimchi & runny egg all over textured brown rice. There was a sweet-ish sauce drizzled over the top. All of the flavors came together so well! $20, but WELL worth the money! - Roasted Turkey omelet: I didn't have any of this but my boyfriend really enjoyed this! The photo doesn't looks like much but he said it was packed with flavor. The food was so good! They also make their own kombucha, and have rotating flavors. I tried the lilikoi kombucha. I love the food from Booch Bar, but it is super expensive and mostly for tourists. This place is order at the counter. I've come to Booch Bar twice now, and both times I've gone, I've been stuck behind a big family of tourists who will be at the register for 5-10 minutes still deciding what to order while everyone in line has to wait for them. This place was totally awesome. A full five stars. First, the service was tremendous. The two guys that work at the front are so friendly and nice! They seem very happy to be doing what they're doing. It's hard to find good customer service these days so that was much appreciated. Second, they have so many options for vegetarian, vegans, and meat eaters that everyone will be happy. We had a mushroom scramble, French toast, and our kids absolutely loved the smoothies. Even I tried it and it was so good. I later found out that the smoothies had kombucha in them, which is lightly caffeinated tea, so just a heads up in case you are also getting smoothies for your children. They are the makers of Big Island Booch Kombucha, so they have their full variety of kombucha flavors bottled, canned, or on tap (extra seasonal flavors available). On a visit yesterday, we popped in for tacos after a day at the park. I had the Hawaiian Fish Tacos and my friend got the chicken. They were pretty good... the creama sauce on the tacos was incredible, but tacos were just okay. Rice and beans desperately needed some seasoning. Their line of hot sauces are amazing though, and really give a nice flavor and kick to your food. Overall, I really enjoy The Booch Bar. Staff are friendly, establishment is clean with lots of seating options. You can also find their lines of Booch and hot sauces at local grocers when you're on the go. read more

Very casual and cafe-like but with full-service sit down prices. Service is friendly and very fast. Veggie Reuben was a good sandwich, but who makes a Reuben without rye bread and Russian dressing? This place does. Only thing that made this sandwich anything like a Reuben is the kraut. Casablanca was nice as a starter salad/appetizer with dips. Very healthy. Ceviche tostadas were weird and had way too much going on but edible. Get rid of everything on it other than the fish, lime and EITHER slaw or pico. Everything else can be taken out. Bloody Mary was weird. There was some spice in there that I found so overpowering and off putting -- so overpowering that I literally had to choke down every gulp.
