THEE place to get beef for dinner/lunch, or anything else. A Scratch kitchen, they are family owned, and quality is always perfect. Had their French Dip Au Jus, medium (you get to choose). The beef was like butter, so very tender and sweet, the au jus was rich, deeply rich and JUST right. The bread served is home-made, too. Service is always stellar. This restaurant has a special place in the heart of Ann Arborites. This is where I went to dinner with my husband just after he proposed and had lunches with my dad when I was younger. The dining room is still like stepping back in time. Nothing has changed. really. nothing. Our visits have slowed in the last couple years due to the poor experiences we've had, but this last one was the final straw. I am done with Knight's Steak House and the attitudes from the servers. The food isn't good enough nor is there value enough to put up with that level of (lack of) service. I booked a reservation for 6 on a Monday night at 7pm to celebrate a birthday. From the start, the server was short and took WAY too long to come around just for drinks. (25 mins) She had an attitude and before our people were even there, I had a feeling we should leave. I didn't want our son's birthday to be spoiled by this server, but too late. After waiting 25 mins to PUT IN a drink order, we got drinks after appetizers were gone. When she finally brought the drinks, did she stick around to take our order when we asked her to take our orders. We had a kid in our party and it was already near 8pm. IDK what her hold up was or why she was so unavailable to a party of 6 but that was ridiculous. We are pretty easy and very forgiving but throw attitude on top and that ensures we got the message and not a place we would like to go again. The wine selection is crap but the pours are heavy. The dinner salad on special is $13 (with a 6oz steak add on for an additional $15) but was the size a side plate. No reason there could not have been just more lettuce in it. Charge more for a bigger size even. The steak was proper cooked temp but served lukewarm and no flavor. Same for the kid's meal - lukewarm. She was about sleep on the table before the food came out so she didn't eat much anyway. n the upside, they know how to serve a sandwich, on end, so the bread doesn't get soggy and he said the sandwich was good. Our 3 boys had steaks and they didn't complain though they said it could use some flavor. Then I remembered that you have to ORDER flavor. Why didn't the server ASK any of use if we wanted seasoning on our steaks? We aren't a table full of old people. 3 men in their 20s might want some flavor. This place is located in the North side of Dexter Ave, west of the main campus. Apparently it was one of Bo's favorite places and Jim Harbaugh brought players there. So it is a very popular place in Ann Arbor. It was packed when we were there. They are known for their steaks but we did not order it so sorry cannot comment on that. We did get the Bolognese and chicken Parmesan (see photos). The chicken parm was like the bolognese with a huge piece of chicken. That was a very good deal compared to the price of other things. We sat at the bar to get the famous dirty martinis with blue olives. Dave was our bartender and he was incredibly busy but also very attentive to us. I was quite impressed. I ordered the Alissa summer salad with sirloin steak and a side of french fries. The steak was cooked to perfection and the dressing for the salad was so refreshing. The atmosphere was bustling, reflecting the popularity of this place. Although we put our name in for a table, we decided to stay at the bar because it was so pleasant. Yummy dining in classic/old/traditional club style digs. I don't even know if that makes sense but I definitely could picture, back in the day, the establishment full of university men meeting here for steaks and burgers, drinking, smoking, cards and maybe pool. A bit loud and bustling today, but we were able to get seated without a reservation on a Friday evening within 5min. I got the Jalapeño-Bacon Jam Burger, which was delicious! The savory spicy jam really elevated the burger, but the quality of the meat and the char grill is really what makes this good. Rounded out with cheese, pickles (a decently generous amount), garlic aioli, arugula, and a grilled brioche bun that was the perfect amount of sturdy to hold everything together without being too bready. Delicious! Burgers come with a side of chips by default, but I swapped for fries which are good classic fries. The drinks! I got a whiskey sour and wow was that a generous pour, and a good price. Didn't taste watered down or anything either. My husband's drink was a large pour and a good price too. Drink prices vary quite a lot at different dining establishments and I was very happy to discover the value of drinks here. We'll be back! It's not a huge space, so reservations are probably helpful. My family has been coming to Knight's for decades. It's always enjoyable. Tonight my partner and I came here to celebrate our fifth anniversary. Yet another fantastic experience. Although the parking lot was quite full, we were seated quickly. Server came to take our drink order swiftly. Per usual, food and drinks were on point. The steaks were cooked to their requested temps. Sides were great. The ranch that came with the garden salad (homemade, I assume?) was out of this world. Even the butter packets were the appropriate temperature. Lots of leftovers. Love the quaint, old timey charm this location has always possessed. Above all, our server, Devin H., was phenomenal! Very attentive, friendly, not remotely overbearing. He had fantastic energy; best server we've had in awhile! Love this place. After three visit - all awful - we will not go back. Slow service and too crowded tables. The parking lot is also crazy. The inside is loud and smells musty. The food is not worth the money. My knight burger was dry, bun was also dry, mushrooms were not cooked. Not kid friendly. The kids menu was not current and what my daughter wanted wasn't available. We had a group of men basically sitting on the back of my son's chair - their butt actually hit him - and the staff did nothing about moving them from where we were eating. read more

Comfy like an old shoe, Knight's is a great choice for steaks and burgers. The bar area, often raucous, is surrounded by somewhat quieter booths and tables. If they have a steak on the daily specials menu, it's probably worth a look. Today they had a cabbage and smoked sausage soup that was both hearty and flavorful. After enjoying a cup of that, I tucked into a build-your-own 7 oz burger with American cheese and green olives. Burger, served on a toasted brioche bun, was nicely charred and cooked medium as I requested. First off the waitress was really nice but obviously not versed enough on the menu to answer our questions fully. The place was really packed and loud to the point of not being able to catch an intimate vibe. The food was definitely subpar. I order twin lobster tails with scalloped potatoes and asparagus. Perfect family dinner/evening for adult son 's bday. Three kiddos + 6 adults. Food was very good although the chix wings were not at all cared for by the kiddos. Unusual taste. They put a teaspoon of soda or mixer in the glass just for a little color. Their mixed drinks will knock you back, lemme tell ya. Call an Uber! Don't try to drive after you have a few at this joint. As for the food, I seldom eat meat but seems to be popular here. Their specialty salads are excellent and even your basic grilled sandwich is a dependable choice. Knights has been around for a long time and there's a reason for that. My parents have been dining here for years. It is one of those places where your locals all know one another and even if you're not local you are likely to bump into someone that you know. I ran into a fellow U of M student that I hadn't seen since I graduated in 1991. You just can't beat the ambiance. I have been in the hospitality business for over 30 years, and managed some of the finest hotels around the world. So, I know fine dining and great food. Knights is not going to your fine dining experience or Wagyu beef, but it also isn't going to cost you those prices either. It is however, excellent locally sourced beef and I have yet to have a bad steak. However, steaks are like fine wines. You just occasionally get a bad bottle. When you do, just mention it to your server and they will fix it. And just as a fine Merlot is not everyone's favorite, maybe you prefer a different cut of meat. Or prefer it cooked to a certain temperature. Again, just let your server know and if they can't answer you. Ask to speak to the chef. I have been coming back to Ann Arbor over 3 decades and I still enjoy coming back to those places I enjoyed years ago. Ann Arbor has changed dramatically. The restaurant business alone has become much more competitive with the new restaurants opening downtown. And let me tell you, I have traveled around the world and I continue to be impressed with the level of chefs in Ann Arbor. Let me first say that Ann Arbor needs places like Knight's - traditional, cosy, and a neighborhood/Cheers level of friendliness, while also offering stiff drinks. Dined on a Monday night and the restaurant was packed, mostly older couples. Service was attentive and prompt. The reason for my rating - the food just did not live up to the price point. The mussels appetizer was good but the portion a little small. I had the Knight's burger which I asked for medium rare but was certainly more medium and had no discernable seasoning. Nothing I couldn't make at home. The spicy seafood pasta was bland. The chicken parm was a large portion and my son enjoyed it. None of us are steak people so didn't order one. With four glasses of wine and a few salads and other entrees, the bill came to $250 for 6 of us. Overall, I'd certainly go back for a drink at the bar, but the food just lacked the flavor and creativity to justify the cost. read more

Ambiance is wonderful for a get together! It is loud so you can talk without having to whisper. Really gives off a old world pub vibe. Lighting and aromas are perfect, could have sat all night. At the table were apps,calamari and chicken wings, also the special of the night ,pot roast, and the Filet with baked potato and I had the Risotto w/ tenderloin tips. Everybody enjoyed their entree, the Filet was fantastic, pot roast was great, apps went home and were throughly enjoyed next day, my only criticism is my tips on the Risotto were under seasoned.... really no flavor. Knight's (lovingly referred to as "Old Knights") is not everyone's steakhouse. Or, maybe it is, but it's not the conventional steakhouse that your mind conjures in 2023. Here is my top 10 reasons to visit Knight's: 1) The drinks are strong. The "Knight's pour" is a thing. 2) Get the rolls. 3) From steaks to sandwiches, the food is old school, top notch, ultra-filling dining. 4) You won't find tweezered greens and garnishes here. Embrace it. 5) Order the special. I've never been disappointed. 6) You haven't been allowed to smoke in restaurants in ages, but the ambiance still gives the illusion of an old smoky bar/steakhouse. Maybe if you get close enough to the wall, you can still smell the smoke? 7) Sit at the bar. Meet the bartender. Talk to the regulars. You'll be happy you did. 8) I'm pretty sure that the majority of diners at noon are over 70. 9) The proximity to the adjacent fields is a big draw for softball teams pre and post game. 10) It tells me a lot about a restaurant if they offer cottage cheese as a side option. We came here for a graduation celebratory dinner and there were six in our party. We had a reservation for 5pm but they were able to accommodate us a bit earlier- even though the place was packed. The exterior of the restaurant has a charming look to it. There is a parking lot with free parking, which is a great bonus anywhere near Ann Arbor. Upon entering the restaurant, the host staff were extremely friendly and greeted us promptly. The ambiance is somewhat dark and rustic and very comfortable. Even though it is an upscale restaurant, it is not at all stuffy. Since many graduates and their families were dining here, it was very busy and yet I was pleasantly surprised by the efficiency. Our server was top notch and able to answer any questions about entrees. I wish I knew her name to give her a specific shout-out. I'm sure she provided her name upon introduction to the table but a couple of us had hung back outside before entering. If you like Scallops Rochester as an appetizer, I highly recommend it and so did everyone in our party. The scallops were perfectly prepared to be soft (not mushy) with spinach, garlic and a cheese sauce. Absolutely amazing! We had only ordered it as an appetizer for our table, but could have been a delicious meal. Everything ran like clockwork and our salads and soups arrived promptly after we'd finished with appetizers. (Calamari was also a table appetizer but I didn't try it because it isn't my thing; though I noticed that it didn't go as quickly as those yummy scallops!) I ordered the gazpacho soup and it was very fresh and delicious. For my personal taste, it was a bit spicy, but I still enjoyed it. Someone in our party had the clam chowder soup and said it was delicious. One person ordered the lentil and sausage soup; he seemed neutral about it but there was a full cup of lentils- which I would have ordered except I didn't want sausage in it. Our entrees then arrived in perfect timing following soup and salad. I had ordered the primavera alfredo with chicken and requested light on the Alfredo sauce. Our server acknowledged that it was probably heavier on the sauce than I had ordered but I didn't make a fuss at our celebration. It was delicious with a very generous amount of chicken in addition to the delicious pasta and fresh vegetables. I ate out the chicken to get my protein and gave leftovers to someone else in our party. The generous dish begged to be eaten as leftovers. While too rich with cream for my taste, those leftovers weren't going to go to waste! Many others in our party ordered steak/prime rib and seemed very happy with their selections. Since I don't eat red meat, I was very pleased with my selection. Overall, I was so impressed by the efficient and friendly service as well as the quality of our food. Absolutely recommend this place if you'd like to splurge on a high quality meal within a comfortable environment. Definitely a first class dining experience! Stopped in with some work colleagues before a Michigan game on a Tuesday night. Ambiance was nice, service was ok, drinks were good, food was disappointing. We were all craving a good steak. 2 of us ordered the special, Delmonico steak medium rare, came out closer to medium well. They have created a two seater table in the decorated upstairs dining area next to a swinging door. Let's go ahead and cram people in there, even if they did make reservations, right? The calamari was very dry and heavily breaded - we couldn't finish it, and for the first time ever, some of our calamari went to the trash. Not really sure why this is rated as a budget frendly. It's not for anything. The food is very mundane for the price you pay and the service is as expected like many other places. THE BEST CHOWDER IN ANN ARBOR! Compared even to places like Real Seafood Co., Knight's chowder was spectacular. Huge chunks of clams, with potatoes of slightly different sizes - it really gave a feel for being freshly made (I have no idea if it is). I would come back just for the powder alone! I've lived in A2 for over a decade, and this place still ranks high as a favorite of the locals. Came here on a Friday night with no reservation at 6pm, and was sat within 5 minutes. Any later, though, I'd advise a rez. Parking lot was almost completely full on arrival and when I left. The hostess was very kind, and sat me on the second level - kind of neat to watch the tables below. The restaurant looks like it hasn't been updated in decades and seems kind of old and stuffy, but I think that's what they're going for with the "knight's" theme. I ordered a chowder, followed by 6 oz prime rib with baked potato and vegetable. They had already run out of broccoli, so I received the asparagus instead. On presentation the entree seemed underwhelming, but cutting into the steak was PERFECT! I usually order medium, and this is one of the best steaks I've ever had! THIS is what Knight's is known for, and rightfully so! The potato was perfect, but the asparagus for scant and flimsy. I paired everything with a sangiovese mix - delicious! Service: The server was nice at first and the quickly seemed overwhelmed with larger tables. It took a pretty long to time for him to do an entree check - not good at a steakhouse - and forever to get the check - and when it finally came, no dessert offering or anything (and no notice of specials in the beginning either). I bought a $33 pour neat and it came with a mountain of ice. After waiting patiently, I asked nicely for a neat version, which came back from the original glass but strained... There were still ice remnants in the glass and it tasted like half water half scotch. A huge disappointment for what I paid.
