I've driven past this place for a couple months now and it's always caught my eye, so this past weekend I finally decided to check it out with my friend. My friend had already gone once and dined inside, so when we showed up and walked up to the doors of the dining room, only to find them locked, we were surprised. Definitely check the hours before you plan to go. Apparently, on a Saturday afternoon, only The Boro To Go, a side door off of the building, was open for business. So we went in there to place an order from their limited menu, as well as checked out their selection of alcoholic & non-alcoholic beverages in the cooler off to the side, along with their display case full of delicious looking pastries & desserts. We ultimately only placed an order for a starter and a wood fired pizza to share between the two of us, but the pastries and desserts definitely intrigued me and I definitely want to give them a try when I next come back. After we placed our order, we checked out the grounds. It's a beautiful space and it was a shame that we didn't get to dine inside. We were able to find a door that was unlocked so looking inside to see the space was stunning. This place is definitely rehearsal dinner/reception material for sure! I love that The Boro also has a nearly fully wrap-around deck as well filled with patio tables and chairs for many parties to sit at. Behind the restaurant too is this huge field where they've situated a lot of picnic tables too for additional seating. My friend and I opted to sit here as there were more options for shade. I really like the concept of The Boro and I know they have big plans for their restaurant and space for the years to come. They are situated right on a creek - Fleming Creek - and I believe they own more land than is developed right now along the creek. In the coming years, they plan to develop these areas to allow for more picnicking opportunities along the creek and will be operating partially as a place to pick up picnic goods to take to the creek to picnic along, which is a delightfully wonderful & enchanting concept that would really set them apart from other restaurant offerings in the area. But for now, they are a standard-issue restaurant with an odd-hours dining room and side-door to-go business, which is what this review reflects. It took our food 45 minutes to arrive, which is a comically long time for one starter, which consisted of mostly cold items, and one pizza! What's even more hilarious is that our pizza arrived before our starter did and the starter took an additional 10 minutes to show up. I don't understand why it took basically an hour for them to assemble & deliver a pile of proscuitto, some olives & greens, and toasted bread! I wonder if because there are so many options for seating, it took the waiters a while to find everyone and that's where the bottleneck was. But, we had a good view of the door they came out of to deliver while we were waiting, and I don't believe this was the case because we would see the waiters go in for long periods of time before coming back out with more food. But if this is a bottleneck, I don't think there would be any problem with having the customers come up to pick up their food when ready rather than have the staff search high and low for where everyone was situated. The picnic area is a bit of a walk from the restaurants and just doesn't feel like the most efficient use of their staff. Our wood fired pizza also arrived lukewarm, as if it had been sitting out for a while already done, just not delivered yet, which was pretty disappointing. And the crust was so thin, it was hardly even there. We ordered the mushroom pizza, and there was an overwhelming amount of mushrooms on it, which I'm not complaining about because I love mushrooms, but the flavors were relatively flat, which was a bit disappointing. All in all, the food was fine, but definitely didn't justify the price points they were all at. Increasingly throughout my time at The Boro, I was getting this feeling that they were trying to market themselves as pretty pretentious, which is not a great vibe to go after. I am more than happy to pay top dollar for quality food and goods, but there are tons of places, although often not found in the Michigan area, that charge a lot for very little, and I worry that The Boro is trending in this direction. For now, The Boro is getting 4 stars from me. If this experience had happened at a well-established restaurant, it would've gotten very few stars from me. But I believe that this place has POTENTIAL and I don't even think they have had their grand opening yet, so I'm giving them a lot of benefit of the doubt right now. Hoping next time I come here the dining room is open, the air of pretentiousness that I believe might be swirling about is not there, the menu is much larger, the food is much better, and the wait times are much shorter. read more

I was looking for a nice lunch spot with outdoor seating and came across The Boro! It has plenty of seating outside, whether it's on the patio by the restaurant or in the grass area behind it with picnic tables. Dine-in is not open during lunch time, so you'll have to order at the To-Go counter on the side. Once you order, you get a number and they bring the food to you wherever you're sitting outside. It took a while for our food to come out (~1 hour) even though there weren't too many people when we first arrived (around 11:30AM on a Saturday). I would recommend ordering online for pickup beforehand to avoid the wait. We ordered the Prosciutto Di San Daniele and the Garlic Pizza. It is pricey for the amount of food you get, but the food tasted good. I'm usually not a big prosciutto eater, but it was balanced nicely with the greens and toast. As one who loves garlic, the garlic pizza definitely hit the spot. The chili oil that comes on the side adds a nice kick to the pizza if you like to keep things spicy. I definitely want to come back and try the Dine-In another day. read more

I've been visiting the Boro since they've opened and they've gotten consistently tighter each and every service. The staff is very polite, the wine list is really well curated which is a major bonus for me. I love good wine and it's typically very difficult to find food wines unless I go downtown in Ann Arbor or into Detroit. The Boro has a great By The Glass Menu and a Reserve List which is always worth checking out. The food is fantastic, the pizzas are delicious, I've had sandwiches at lunch on really well made in house bread. I can't recommend The Boro enough, it is very pricey but I feel the quality of everything considered its well worth it. read more

There is a "side entrance" where you order take-out to eat on the patio or to bring home. After you place your order, you're given a number tag to place on your table so they can bring out your food. We ordered two pizzas: mushroom and sausage. The mushroom pizza was truly a mushroom lover's pizza as it was loaded with a few different kinds of mushroom. It also came with a side of hot oil. The sausage pizza had sliced sausage and I really wish there was more of it. Both were very tasty. A little pricey, but glad to try it. They also have cold tap water and cups that you can help yourself to. I think there are two patio sections. Where we sat - near the side entrance - there are 5 tables (some 2-person, some 4-person), and in the front, there are also a few tables (not sure how many). While you don't need to leave a tip, you do need to bus your own table. read more

Upscale yet approachable dining. The setting is beautiful. Excellent plate presentation. The scallops were delectable with a well executed sear. Tomato salad with heirloom and cherry tomatos with crispy lentils and Greek yogurt and olive oil was my favorite dish of the day. Only downside was a margherita pizza with a soupy tomato sauce. The wood fired pizza was soft and sloggy. You can see sauce leaking thru pizza to tray. Overall, highly recommend, but avoid the soggy margarita pizza. read more

On first look at the prices we were skeptical, $20 for a Manhattan?? We were wrong. It was the best dining experience we've had in the Ann Arbor area, and hands down one of the best manhattans ever. Easily twice as good as a typically $10 cocktail you might get elsewhere. We had an incredible dining experience sitting at the bar at a The Boro, largely thanks to Joe, the bartender. Joe is a transplant from Chicago, his experience and passion for fine dining is evident. His wine pairings and cocktails were top notch. The pizzas on the menu may sound appetizing, but order the seafood -- it's what makes this place better than other restaurants in Ann Arbor. The oysters, the prawns, the caramelized scallops, and the sautéed halibut were so fresh, perfectly prepared, and delicious! This is a great new place for coffee, baked goods, cocktails, and pizza. There's a small patio that has lots of afternoon sun to enjoy. I got one of their cocktails to go and the focaccia. Everything was yummy, but the price was pretty steep. Both had large portions which allowed for me to take home half of each to enjoy the next day. I've heard great things about their pastries but haven't been able to try them yet, so that will be my next venture! read more

This popped on my map after a nice long hike... why not! Looked like a very nice place - clean, spacious... interesting! Sat at the bar as I was alone. Got a pepperoni pizza with arugula topping. The pepperoni was shredded, that was new. Turns out to be a great idea! More pepperoni per bite! The pizza base was also very good. The nice and soft. Had a farmhouse ale to go with it. On our way home from a hike Sunday morning, we passed by the Boro and decided to stop in for a treat to go with our coffee. The plan was to take it home because we were dirty and sweaty, but when we noticed there was a jazz quartet playing outside, we decided to take a seat at a picnic table. What an awesome surprise! The musicians were talented and friendly and our breakfast items were delicious! I am more of a savory than sweet eater, so I opted for the ham and cheese croissant, which was out of this world! I hope the Boro continues to do special things like music outside. It definitely made the experience something special! I am anxious to try the restaurant for dinner sometime. read more

I've been wanting to go here for a while now and was finally able to make a reservation. The inside of the restaurant is beautiful!!! Very classy. We decided against ordering any appetizers, which was a mistake. I ordered the pappardelle pasta. While it was delicious, it was very small. The portion was way too small for the $25 price. Thankfully, someone else in my party ordered a pizza and shared some. After our meal, the waitress brought us a dessert menu and we had to wait around 25 minutes for her to even come back and asked if we wanted anything. Short version: after frequenting DP three times over a couple of months, I suggest, for the money, to give it a pass as there are literally dozens of other places within a 15 min drive that offer a better overall culinary experience. 5*: top, for sure, is the environment, architecture, layout, and vibe of the place. 4*: The waitstaff are attentive with water refills, and knowledge of the menu; and they're polite. However, on two occasions, they forget to bring the ordered glass of wine as requested with the main course, and, other issues. Food is the meh here, which is surprising. I should say 'meh' overall because there were some dishes that were outstanding at each course, but there were also real disappointments at each course, depending on what was ordered. This was the case each time we visited and, given the inconsistency, it's not worth the price point. (To be fair, we never tried the pizza and looking at others who ordered, it looked pretty appetizing!) I had steak, which is $75. I'm sure it's that price point because it came from a cow who lived in a butterfly meadow listening to classical music. However, it simply wasn't that good. I'm not joking, but I have had equal from Kroger. We talked as a group and agreed that Dixboro Project is not worth the money, given the food. There are too many other outstanding restaurant experiences in the area to repeat 'meh'. read more

This by far is one of my favorite restaurants in our area. From the drink choices, to the service, to the food, it's pure perfection. The waiters and waitresses gave great recommendations, and are very accommodating to food allergies and other dietary concerns. I have not had one bad meal here, and I would highly recommend it to anyone looking for a fine dining experience. read more

Sava Farah has brought her magic to reimagine the tired former Lord Fox into a 3 part destination restaurant. Louis Maldona, a Michelin star awarded chef from Northern California, will elevate the expectations of local foodies to new heights. It sounds as if I know Sava and Louis, but I just met them for the first time on Wednesday when I stopped by for pizza from my construction site a few hundred yards away. State Covid-19 regulations limits The Boro's current offerings to take out and bakery items. I picked up a Margherita pie and a Mushroom + Rosemary pie. Both were rustic perfection, nice thin chewy, yet crisp crust, great flavor too. My dining companion thought the black garlic chunks a bit sweet on the Mushroom pie, so next time, "please hold the black garlic!" Can't wait till the grill room and fine dining room open! I love the look and feel of the place, and the mushroom pizza is especially good. That's as far as it goes. As for all of the other dishes the portions are tiny and the prices gargantuan. Never disappointed with the food here. Have gotten both pizza and pasta and a variety of appetizers, and it is always delicious. They're always switching up the menu though, so don't get attached. As great as their food is, the service has always been a disaster when I've gone. Constantly waiting too long for food or having to order everything at once and the delivery just being extremely ineffective. Despite that, I still love going because the decoration and ambiance of the restaurant is so different than anything in Ann Arbor. Super cute and open space. read more

We came here for a surprise birthday brunch. 12 ladies. The hostess and bartender were super helpful and so sweet, but our waiter once we sat at the table was very subpar. When going to an establishment that is supposed to be fine dining, I do expect a lot from the waiter, and well he left much to be desired. The bramble bee cocktail I had was phenomenal!!! 10/10 would have drank 12 of these. Each one is 15ish bucks, but well worth it! It is the perfect balance of tart and sweet, and it's gorgeous! The food, meh at best. I got the spring salad with chicken added and the chicken was 10 bucks in addition to the 17 dollar salad that was the size of a side salad. The salad itself was unbalanced in regards to flavors. It was very bitter and without the chicken I don't think I could have tolerated eating the whole thing. Whatever you do, don't get the spring salad. Save yourself the 27 bucks. Someone in our party had brought cupcakes and I ordered an espresso to have with it. STEER CLEAR from the espresso. It was the most bitter and unpalatable espresso.... Probably the worst I've ever had. I would rather have had instant espresso... just saying. The place is beautiful and the outdoor area is so pretty. I would suggest this be a place you come for a cocktail at the bar before driving to your actual dinner reservations. read more

I ordered cod cake and pumpkin soup at regular price while my friend ordered the same soup and duck pizza using prex fix. They gave me two slices of focaccia while my friend got one on the side of our soups. Pizza was very tasty. Soup was good. Cod cake was a bit too salty. Waiter attended our table diligent. Everything was amazing!! The service was phenomenal and the food was really really good. Loved the decor and vibes too! The Caesar salad was one of the best I've had in a while. The potato puffs were good but not outstanding. The brown butter chicken was really tender and delicious - loved that sauce and the sides (veggies and a pasta). And the porchetta and pineapple pizza was really good - I love woodfired pizzas! All the appetizers and mains were incredible but the highlight of the dinner was the black sesame chocolate cake!! Atmosphere great. They seem to want to be more than the area can withstand. Valet parking in farm country? Really great to sit outside with a beautiful view, very rare in Ann Arbor. The main restaurant is upscale and the food is good. I will return for sure. Why not 5 stars? Both recent times I ate there the food, though very good, was not as warm as I'd like. Not enough to ask to reheat (which might not be great), but something they should pay attention to. More disturbing: today I ordered their special breakfast dish and was especially attracted to the menu description including "everything spice" which promised bold flavors. Only when the waiter served it did he say they didn't have the "everything spice" which includes garlic and poppyseeds, which I'd have loved. Diners should be told BEFORE if important ingredients are missing! I didn't return it but I would have ordered something else if I had known. When I said this to another worker, there was no attempt to make up for it. I can afford it, but a gesture like "try the real thing next time and here is a small credit" would have been nice rather than suggesting it's okay not to get exactly what you ordered from the menu description. read more

Here for Sunday breakfast. Each item served here is a work of art! That said, different people have different tastes in set, and that is true about this place. The menu is interesting, and so is the food. I had the Dixboro breakfast which was two eggs on top of soggy croutons and some other items. The Taste and texture was pleasant, but by the end I was left with a taste in my mouth that was a bit too vinegary. Not filled, I ordered a chocolate croissant: dry and quite brown on outside, not very flaky or moist inside, with solidified chunks of chocolate. Had both cold brew and a cappuccino. They use Roos Roast coffee so quite fine. Inside is much brighter than the historic place that used to be there. There are options of dining inside or outside (with Regular tables or picnic tables). There were a couple musicians playing outside near picnic area, and the takeout bakery sells bottles of chilled wine. I am unclear whether I like or dislike this place: an Ann Arbor restaurant that is in Dixboro full of midwestern attempts at pretense? Or a place with creative food and options for everyone? Stopped in for breakfast to celebrate our anniversary and quickly decided that this was the perfect choice. We were lucky to be seated on the patio towards the back overlooking the water which was beautiful. The plain croissant was perfectly flaky and delicious and my quiche was tasty. My husband had the egg white dish which was large enough for two to share. Our server was knowledgeable and he was perfect. Kudos to this restaurant! read more

Space is incredibly beautiful. Staff is wonderful. Food was 50/50. Went on a Sunday and maybe it was an off day. For being a "pizza" place, both pizzas were undercooked, soggy on the bottom. "Caesar" was not a Caesar, it was a salad with vinaigrette and toasted bread crumbs, not croutons. Even as a stand alone salad I would not recommend. "Lettuces" was a great salad, highly recommend. Oysters were some of the best I've had, get them! Rest of the food was good but wasn't memorable. They are newer, so I'm hoping they improve over time, but given the owner owns several restaurants in the area I was expecting more. read more

Beautiful ambiance but terrible portions, food and service. Came here on Saturday for my husbands and friends birthday as a group of six and it let much more to be desired. Everything we got was lukewarm at best and had almost no flavor. The potato puffs were so bland and had the texture of a hushpuppy; nothing about them made me think of potatoes at all. The portion for their steak was an absolute joke. By the time my pizza hit the table after they placed my husbands steak down his food was gone. Four TINY strips of steak on a plate with essentially an entire onion. The sweet potato side had no flavor at all, the only saving grace on it was the honeycomb. My broccolini and sausage pizza was decent and so was the mortadella pizza. The cod wasn't good, the little piece of zucchini that was stuffed with crab was super fishy, and not in a way that was to be excepted. They didn't bring out any desserts for the two birthdays we celebrated and our waiter had no personality or hospitality. The room we were sat in was freezing. The drinks were good. Overall not at all impressed and wouldn't come back. If you decide to dine here stick to pizzas as that was the only thing we seemed to enjoy. read more

This place doesn't take reservations and they have no command of time management. We were told it takes 40min to get a table. After 1hour 50min we still didn't have a firm time and we left. It was the second time we went. The first time we had a long wait as well. The pizza is just ok, pizza at Pizza Vino in Plymouth is much better and not nearly as overpriced as Boro. I will not be coming back. There are better choices around. read more

We tried The Boro To Go x2 over the holiday weekend and were impressed. The menu is straightforward and self explanatory, though I would have liked photos, too. Portions are generous for breakfast items, and were enough to share or for leftovers. The savory scone is a cheese, jalapeno and coarse salt combo, and the sweet is a lovely lemon poppy seed with icing. Spanish Coffee - hint of cayenne was great! I appreciated that they didn't make the coffee (iced or hot) until arrival. Nice touch. Will definitely order this again and copy at home. Ham and cheese croissant - often out of stock - clearly a reason why. Rich, sharp cheese. Flaky dough. Delicious. Would have loved to try morning bun. Out of stock on our try. Savory croissant - a bit too much coarse salt in the bite I had, but great balance of spice and savory. Will order again. Sweet croissant - punchy lemon flavor, tasted like real zest and not artificial. Excellent, tender dough. Highly recommend. Almond croissant - delightfully flaky dough, fruity and not overly sweet filling. Lovely toast on the almonds and not too much sugar on top to overpower the delicate flavors and texture. Well worth the price point. Croissant and chocolate croissant - a trip to Paris in Ann Arbor. Seriously, a croissant snobs delight. Smoked salmon - one small suggestion - to go containers need a vent for steam. The metal tray allows full display of the beautiful creations, but did not permit for escape of stem on my 20 min drive home. The result - soggy potato. A knife stab or two in the plastic lid? or a hold punch? something to prevent the soggy factor would be fab. Pickled onion and crème fraiche were lovely addition. Piadina - another victim of the lid sog - the dough got a little gooey from the steam. Otherwise great. Not sure if this is the same dough as their pizza crust? Great chew, nice and thin. Lovely combo of roasted veggies and thin sliced meat with egg. HUGE portion. Made a great mid afternoon meal for seconds. Quiche - cheese and roasted veggies were a lovely combo. Tender, flavorful crust. Peppery arugula Oatmeal - roasted strawberries and smoked maple made this go-to interesting and leveled-up. Nicely toasted pistachios for crunch. Generous portion. Until next time, I will be dreaming of flaky pastry dough, spicy sweet coffee, and perfectly roasted farm fresh veggies. TIps: The hot croissants are available to go beginning at 8 am. This review is specifically for the pizza. I have had a lot of wood fired pizza and a lot of pizza Opinions. That may be the best Neapolitan-style pizza crust I've ever had. Not exaggerating. It's perfectly crispy on the outside and chewy in the middle. Then they give you this special dipping oil for the crust that is just...magic. It's magic. I don't know what's in it. (The pizza I had was pepperoni and I did appreciate that they went all out on the meat. ) The grounds are lovely, beautiful little corner of the world next to a river and lots of outdoor seating. read more
