We found this place while searching for a good Happy Hour spot while on vacation. It came up close to our hotel (Capital Hilton) so a 10 minute walk we headed out. This place get busy during games and around 6pm but the doesn't stop the staff from being friendly and getting you in. I've read that they do burgers and do them well. My wife and I both got one, she got hers with onions and mushrooms and I went with a bacon cheddar burger. They bought were cooked perfect medium, good size, fresh toppings, soft bun and juicy. A well executed version of a standard bar. Came here for dinner before a show at the DC Improv, and we were able to get a seat at the bar immediately, and get out within an hour. Just about every seat was full in the bar but it was not crowded. Good balance of feeling like you're out and about but The energy was still pretty chill and you can hear the people next to you. She was not attentive as I hoped, always had an attitude and seemed bothered when I requested something. She is slow at getting the food for us even though the bar was empty. I loved the burgers here. If you want a place to meet friends and hang out - this is the spot. When I first arrived they had chairs and tables put aside that were packed with girls and guys drinking beer. When you step inside the place, it's dark so be careful and you'll take the stairs downstairs to their main bar. The bouncer will check your ID to make sure you're 21+. I got there and grabbed a seat at the bar with my friends. They also have tables along the other side of the bar if you want a sit-down meal. I ordered mozzarella sticks which was so good. The crispy outside and gooey cheese in the inside was perfect. I also ordered Blue Moon and the place was well air conditioned too. As my main entree I ordered a cheeseburger and got everything on it. Again the meat was on point and loved the wholesome veggies. The bartender was nice and she made sure we were taken care of. The Bottom Line is the best service I've had in a "divey" setting. I definitely was not expecting the positive experience we had, so I was really just blown away by the place. My girlfriend and I came here after visiting a more upscale establishment called Off The Record. We very much enjoyed Off The Record and we would love to go back, and I understand that they are meant to offer different experiences, but The Bottom line was just better. Our bartender was very attentive. We had the option of choosing the doneness on our burger which was one of the things not expected. We also ordered their wings and the bartender made sure to confirm we were ok with the sides it came with. Again, I did not come here expecting this kind of service but the sincerity in the bartenders demeanor was very comforting. The burger came and it was already split down the middle for my girlfriend and I, separate plates and all. Tater tots too. We usually do that ourselves and we usually have to ask for the separate plates, but they did it for us. Without us having to ask. It really made us feel special. Then we took bites of our food and we were once again surprised by how good it was. The burger meat was cooked like we ordered it, it had more toppings than I expected, generous enough portions, and they even asked if I wanted extra sides for the tots and wings... like mayo... I love mayo! I always have to ask for it! The wings were so delicious. They were more on the crispy side, but not fried. I don't think. Their sauce was not too spicy but it was very flavorful without being too overpowering. All the meat would come off with one bite. Very little cartilage and tendons which are not my thing. This place reminds me of one of my favorite bars from college... mainly the decor and smell (neither are bad, haha). It does have its differences though: 1) It's in a basement 2) It's a very small space that gets crowded in the blink of an eye 3) The drinks cost a little more That being said, it's one of the best happy hours in the Farragut area. Not only is it right across the street from the metro, but it lasts until 8:00 and has daily specials that go beyond that sometimes! This bar is conveniently located equidistantly from both entrances to Farragut West on I St. Remember where Cafe Asia used to be? Yeah, right there. When you get to the door, they check your ID immediately, and you're in! As I said, it gets crowded very quickly, try and grab a table or find a good spot near the bar to stand if you can. Happy hour specials are everywhere, so don't worry about trying to hog the bar if there's no space. They're always playing music, and you can even pick some of your own tunes if you so choose (that Jukebox thing). Music is definitely diverse and is never themed... I feel like I am always hearing something different. I have been able to sit at the bar, stand behind it, and claim a table. When at the bar or standing near it, I have never had trouble flagging down a bartender if I needed to get a drink. When I have been at a table, the server would drop by every now and then, and even if he wasn't stopping at our table, he'd look in our direction to see if we needed anything or wanted him, and the drinks would come within seconds, even in a crowd! My go-to is always rum and pineapple juice, and I have never been disappointed with how they turn out. Not the strongest I've had, but definitely gets a good buzz going. I haven't had food recently, but I did order the jerk chicken strips once... while they weren't the most jerked ones I have ever had, they were good. With $4 drinks, ($1 beers on some days for the beer fans), discounted food, daily specials, and being located right next to the metro station that will take me straight home, it's really hard to go wrong with this place. read more

It's unpretentious and is a great place for a little pre-gaming if you have other plans later in the evening. Drinks are cheap and served in pint glasses, poured with heavy hands. I've come here in the past after softball games on the National Mall to eat nachos on the sidewalk patio and have enjoyed their happy hours. They actually pull a pretty solid crowd for happy hour with all of the surrounding office buildings. Cheap prices for beer & rail drinks, & $6 glasses of wine is very good for the area. I've said it before, and I'll say it again. This place has the absolute best burgers in DC. Forget all these burger spots popping up. The Bottom Line consistently serves the most delicious burgers, my favorite - The House Burger. The place has a 'local bar' feel but is smack dab in the middle of the business district. The staff is personable and fast. Always great about splitting checks and will rush your food out if you tell them you have to take a short lunch break. I used to go here once a week when I worked downtown, and I have to say their burgers, and Mixt Green's salads, are what I miss the most. I went this past weekend for lunch and I fell in love all over again. The Bottom Line is one of the best, and easier, options for lunch in the area with waiter service. I have come here twice now with my boyfriend to watch Purdue basketball games. This is a hidden little oasis for Purdue fans! In the heart of D.C. of all places. I love it! On game nights you will find this place packed with Purdue fans decked out in Purdue apparel, with barely enough room to stand much less sit. The bartenders and wait staff are super friendly and accommodating. I have tried some cool drinks here. They have a lot of whiskey cocktails that my boyfriend loves. Food wise I have only tried the quesadilla and nachos - both were really good for dive bar food. This is my go to spot for watching Purdue games. read more

Horseradish sauce was not as gross a pairing as I envisioned, but the ranch she requested was very thin in consistency. Hot and not too greasy, but I was hoping for a crispier exterior. I rescued Leon R from the tot cluster, then sniped a tasty piece of a fry from Tracey. I love laying down a layer of starch between pregame and Yelpitude. Friendly bartender, strongly made drinks (more noticeable in the vodka club soda than the vodka tonic). Good thing too, since they were fresh out of Shock Top and Bass, and as cute as their happy hour is I wasn't feeling Corona or Miller. Various TVs showing games and news, and much laughter and cheering at the Shake Weight commercial. I was fairly surprised how many people were into the golfing arcade game. Cool, little basement dive like bar. Not much to look at and down in dungeon but with good happy hour specials and quality bar food. I recommend pulling up a stool at the bar if you can get it as it will allow you quicker access to the bartender and good views of the TV but they also have tables and wait service if you're with a bigger crowd. The burger was really good, unlike most places that serve pre-made patties of frozen meat, you can tell The Bottom Line uses fresh ground beef and hand makes the patties themselves. This makes for a juicy and more flavorful burger. Tater tots were also very good, not overly greasy and came out piping out. So a burger will also be my choice during any return visit. My phone doesn't get service here but that might not necessarily be a bad thing as sometimes you just need to disconnect but a bit inconvenient when possibly meeting friends. Definitely worth a visit if you're looking for a simple bar in the general downtown area, light on frills but good service, great burgers and overall a cool vibe. read more

What made us come here was we thought my bf's coworker was here to meet us.... (he dipped out actually lol), but what made us stay was EVERYTHING else. I was surprised they had drink specials late that night. I asked the bartender, and he listed SO. MANY. CHEAP. DRINKS!! $2 Yeunglings, $2-3 shots of smirnoff, $4 "Halloween shots" (SUPER strong). AND despite the long line, they were fast, and efficient, and it was easy to get a drink. UNLIKE the other crappy bars I went to during the barcrawl that night. Although seating was limited up against the left side of the bar (which, I actually preferred because it means more people standing = more people dancing and talking), our group was able to snag a table. We downed those drinks, and it wasn't too loud to the point where you can't talk. Music: ON POINT. I danced with some girls I didn't know, the people squeezing through the narrow walkway were even dancing and singing to hits from Biggie, "IDFWU" -Big Sean, "The Hills" -The Weeknd, etc. MOST memorable part of the night was at this bar. Awesome vibes, and everyone was so happy and having fun. Cheap drinks + great music = fun time never ended here! 6:30 p.m. Wednesday - 2 people 1. Ambiance: This place was crowded, but my quick thinking friend snagged a table quickly during the Happy Hour rush. The restaurant is located underground, which can be accessible if one can display a form of ID to verify 21+ to the security guard. The music was blaring the entire time, which was two hours for me and my girlfriend. I mean it had to be hard rock type of night with Joan Jett screaming (blasted) through the speakers. Also, the place is quite dim into darkness and feels humid and muggy inside, which are results of the rain. I wish they would brighten it up a little bit and slightly turn down the music as we are cognizant that this location likes Rock & Roll. 2. Food: We ordered Bottomline Tots, Taquitos, and Jerk Chicken Strips. The tots were basic and nothing laudable, and entails with a creamy dip. The Taquitos were crispy with soft, well seasoned fillings on the inside. It was delectable; however, the portions were two pieces cut into halves and spread a part on the plate of lettuce. Not fooling anyone here; the portion on this item was definitely limited. I have to acknowledge their Jerk Chicken Strips. It has a nice kick to it due to the black pepper and jerky seasoning, which created a crisp on the outer layer of the chicken. The chicken strips were very tender as well. The saltiness of the seasonings and sweetness from the bbq sauce created a great and desirable combination. Two thumbs up for the Jerk Chicken Strips. 3. Service: Hailie was our waitress and she took great care of us. She updated us on the Happy Hour ending time so my friend can continue to order her Corona Light. Furthermore, she continued to check on us throughout the evening. She was attentive and we appreciated her service. 4. Costs: The items were all less than $10. The bottomline tots were $6.99, Taquitos were $7.99, and Jerk Chicken Strips were $8.99. The Corona Light Bottle was $3.50 each. Besides the Taquitos, the rest of the items had a good portion ratio equivalent to the value invested. 5.
