Great staff! Such a great supportive and welcoming community. However, with the fans being on as much as they are and no heaters, the gym is too cold. I can't seem to ever get warm, and I have found myself not coming to the gym nearly as often because of it. I wonder if this could be made somewhat better by not having the fans on as high. I really do love this place, but with how cold it is in the winter, I don't enjoy my time in the gym. The sauna is a god send and the facilities are cleaner than other gyms. read more

Have never really liked bouldering since I usually stick to sport climbing but this place made me appreciate bouldering and want to go again. Prices are comparable with most climbing gyms. I was able to get a student discount but I had to show my class schedule and how many credits I'm in. Can't just show your student ID. Lots of routes to choose from and varied abilities. They have 4 down climbing holds on all the walls spaced out for a very gentle dismount from the wall!!!! This is amazing! It's a very tall wall and as a climber of 15 years these down climbing holds help keep my back and knees safe while trying hard on all the different wall angles. I created an account just to review The Boulder Field. I. Love. This. Place. This is what I have always wanted in a climbing gym and community. Carlo and the whole team are doing an amazing job. The facilities are stunning: 10,000 square feet of climbing, world-class route setters, genuinely friendly and helpful staff, tons of seating, sauna, Temple coffee, beer, kombucha on tap, lifting and fitness area, yoga classes. The hours are *great* and make it easy to fit in a session at a time that works for you, even if you work strange hours. It's seriously amazing. One of my favorite parts is the route setting. This is the most fun I've ever had climbing. The route setters have seriously impressive pedigrees; many have set for national and world competitions and are climbing at a freakishly amazing level personally. But even with the level of talent, they are humble, friendly, and helpful. It's not unusual to see the setters chatting with members, watching them climb, evaluating the routes as they watch different climbers approach the problems. And they refresh constantly!! Some gyms only seem to reset the harder routes, so the climbers working on more moderate to beginning problems never get a change. Not here. I also love their overlapping grading system: it has encouraged me to try routes that I might not have otherwise. And I have surprised​ myself! The rest of the staff are lovely as well. They are part of the community; they don't just work there. They make an effort to know your name, make conversation, and are so attentive and helpful. You can tell that everyone has a huge sense of pride and they are determined to keep the quality high. Even though the place is brand-new and spick and span, I always see staff cleaning and checking things to keep it that way. It makes a difference and goes a long way to making all members of the community feel welcome. TL;DR This place has been pure therapy for me. This is the nicest bouldering gym in Sacramento! They have plentiful and safe parking, a clean and well-lit interior, tons of wall space, plentiful training equipment, a kids wall, an outdoor patio for food trucks, and a really nice cafe. The entire interior feels extremely clean and thoughtfully designed. It doesn't have the dark, dingy vibe of some other gyms. I was there for a competition so I can't speak to the usual route setting, but I loved the comp problems! Finally, the parking/outdoor situation felt SO much safer than the Touchstone gym here. I'd come back again in a heartbeat. read more

First timer here with a couple of friends and it was one of the best experiences I've had. Friendly staff and a wide variety of climbing is available. When I went, there was a section that was closed off because staff was setting up a new climbing challenge. That's great because it shows that they mix it up and don't keep the same climbing challenges. Although I'm not sure how often they change them. Pricing is reasonable for a day pass. I would definitely recommend this place to anyone interested in trying out rock climbing for the first time and to those who have experience. read more

Really bad place to take the kids or family. Did not like the way management talked to my children or my family. I really wish I could give them a 0 star because it is totally in appropriate behavior by management and employees. Have been to lots of other rock climbing places in Sacramento and this place has to be the worst for prices equipment food and atmosphere. Sacramento pipe works,Granite Arch climbing center, Rocknasium and West Sacramento Recreation center are all awesome and great places for prices attitude and just great places to climb. This place isn't really cool. Tons of tall walls and variable difficulty levels. Staff is helpful. Kind of a lot of people climbing. As long as you don't mind being up close with strangers, it's a fun place and great exercise. read more

Really an awesome rock climbing facility. The route setters are world class, and they update new sections every week! There are swamp coolers to keep it nice during the summer and Saunas to warm up when it gets cold! The Temple coffee served is amazing and having a cafe really makes this the spot to hang out! read more

Excellent climbing gym!! Beautiful Walltopia walls, great use of volumes , varied climbing styles, and quite a few quality problems. As a shorter woman who relies more on technique than on brute force, I found that these climbs had lovely flow and a great aesthetic feeling to them. There is of course very powerful climbing, but unlike other gyms it is not *only* very powerful climbing. Furthermore, they set with all height ranges in mind which is a rarity in gyms and so appreciated. And last, they use the color system for grading, which really allows people to push themselves, as well as not feel limited by the type of folks who feel the need to tell you that they climbed V7. Staff, setters, and owner were all very friendly! Can't wait to go back. read more

Really fun and friendly place. There is a nice mix of climbs for beginners (like me) and for experts. There is a small gym set up but the vast amount of space is dedicated to bouldering. Some of the routes just make me amazed that someone could actually complete them. There is also a bar offering beer, kombucha, and other drinks if you are so inclined. Not only the staff, but also the clientele are friendly and welcoming. I highly recommend The Boulder Field and in fact have brought at least 7 friends since joining. read more

Great climbing and setting. However, the reason I give this place 2 stars is because of the way they treat kids. They charge an arm and a leg for a small child who will barely climb and on weekends they shut down the only kid friendly climbing area for birthdays. The kids can't go on the blue mat and workout how kids do in their own way (balancing on the ball etc) even when nobody else is on the blue mat. It's one thing if people are stretching and the kids are running around and being disrespectful but it's another when they are being quiet and respectful. Kids get treated like second class citizens here. I've also witnessed the staff yelling at kids. Go to Pipeworks where you're at least not needing to pay for kids under 6. Here you have to pay almost as much as an adult price and they get treated like s$&t! read more

Great climbing gym. When I arrived the team member who helped me out was very friendly, I wish I remember his name. The boulder problems were fun and well set. I know grade ranges are a hot topic at many gyms, but I enjoy it. Grades are subjective anyway. The gym is also very spacious giving a more relaxed feel to your session. read more

This is the climbing gym (bouldering only) come true. This will be the best climbing gym you've ever been to. This is comparable to Dogpatch boulders in SF but better and prettier. The setting is amazing and they have amazing coffee (my favorite local coffee, Temple coffee latte). They have a coffee bar in the gym. read more

This place is amazing! First, I'd really want to recognize how CLEAN the facility is. We did my daughter's 8th bday here and we had a wonderful wonderful time! 2 hours of fun to be exact! The instructors were great with kids. They were all super friendly, knowledgeable and empathetic! Some kids were scared to climb up a wall, and they totally made them feel comfortable at what ever child wanted to climb. No pressure, just a great time. What can I say I love this place. Bouldering for days, a sweet cafe. Nice bathrooms with a sauna. Nice gym area to stretch. Tables to study, a beautiful sunset on the patio . I just did the adult league and it was a really fun competitive option for adults. Kyle and Dan were awesome. Matter of fact one thing I really enjoy is the customer service. Everyone is so friendly. I went to Pipeworks for years and although I love the gym- time and time again the staff was not warm. I really appreciate this part of the gym. Really reasonably priced for what you get!
