My wife and I were invited to my cousin's daughter's wedding at the Box Hotel. We were excited to be going here since it sounded like a nice venue. We were going to stay over but when I called to get a price on a standard room it was over $500 due to the world cup. Usually, it would have been $200. Talk about price gouging and did not offer any overnight parking so we decide to uber, which worked out great. We arrived a 1/2 hour early and waited in the lobby where there were a bar and a sitting area. Then we were escorted to the roof top via elevators and were given champagne. I always enjoy a glass of champagne. There were wooden folding chairs line up in rows for the wedding ceremony. We sat and waited for the bride and groom; they were a little late but all good. The ceremony was very sweet, we enjoyed it. After that they took all the chairs away and started cocktail hour. We were on the roof top, and it was a raining evening, so the roof was covered. It was very hot up there and I thought we may have moved to another area with air conditioning. But no A/C, just a fan. Not sure why they don't have any A/C up there. We all know sometimes there's bad weather and the roof needs to be closed. Seems as though they had no other accommodations. Cocktail hour was ok. The bartenders worked hard, drinks were really good, I had margarites and my wife had Aperol spritzers. There was not much food for cocktail hour, they had oysters, shrimp and a taco bar. That's all I saw. After that they setup all the tables for dinner on the same very hot humid roof top. Dinner was family style which we did not know. First course was 2 types of salad, dinner was, eggplant, steak and branzino. I tried all 3, my steak was a little tough. Desert was never brough to the table it was on a desert table consisted of just 3 items, churros, wedding cake and 1other which I don't remember. We were never served our food or did any waiter explain to us about the family style or where desert was going to be. I have been at other restaurants where there is family style, and the waiters will serve you. The DJ was very good, and we did dance quite bit. I love to dance so overall I had a great time. For me, drinks, lots of dancing with my wife and extended family is great. For food, I'm easy going and not a big eater. I need to sum this up, overall, I had a great time, due to all who were there celebrating my cousin's daughter's wedding, it could have been anywhere and spending with my wife and family are the best. Drinks were good, food ok, didn't know about desert so I missed out on that. My wife wanted to leave to be sure we got an uber. For a hotel with a roof top venue especially for a wedding, you would think they would have some sort of A/C or other accommodations. It was very warm and humid; everyone was sweating even if you were not dancing. I'm sure they paid a lot for this wedding, and the Box Hotel did live up the standard I would have expected. read more

We stayed here for 2 nights to visit Brooklyn. It was a cute boutique hotel, reasonably priced for New York, and more room space than most NYC/Brooklyn hotels. My favorite part was the location. The hotel is in a good area of Greenpoint, with plenty of bodegas, bars, restaurants and shopping within short walking distance. The subway stop we used the most was about 4 blocks away. There is a large Polish community in this area so you'll see a lot of Polish restaurants and bakeries. I didn't get to try any, but I do highly recommend Radio Bakery! The only bummer is that this seems to be a quieter, residential area and mostly everything closes early... we had to get McDonald's dinner one night after sightseeing because nothing was open. I booked this hotel partially because of the onsite bar and restaurant, which is always convenient. However, it isn't mentioned anywhere on their website that the restaurant/bar is closed Mondays, which was the full day we were staying there. So we didn't get to go at all. I feel like the limited operation should be made clearer, as I probably would have found a different hotel. We didn't opt for included breakfast buffet (extra charge) and I was glad I didn't because it looked pretty mid. They have a cute, vintage branded taxi parked outside, but no one mentioned anything to us about a ride service and they don't do airport shuttles. Maybe it's for decoration? I was largely unimpressed with this hotel. I'll start with the good: - Upon arrival, the man working the front desk was very friendly and helpful. When I discovered my room was right by the elevators (light sleeper), I asked for a different room and he was happy to move me. - The decor is quirky and creative. - Rooms are very spacious - plenty of room for couples and certainly large for NYC. - Safe and quiet neighborhood. And the not-so-good: - When I arrived to my room, I discovered a crushed paper cup in the bathroom, towels that had fallen on the floor, and open drawers. I was told that this is because it hadn't been inspected by a manager (I checked in around 8pm so there should've been plenty of time for that to be done). They brought up new towels for me, but they smelled like the factory, as if they'd come from a new package of towels and never been washed. They offered me a free breakfast voucher, but I wasn't able to use it due to the schedule of my trip. - Despite the initial interaction with employees being positive, I was unimpressed during the rest of my stay. The employees never greeted people coming into the hotel. When checking out, the woman at the front desk was ignoring the two of us waiting and didn't even ask how our stays were. I don't even think she told us to have a nice day. I'm not expecting effusing niceties but a little bit of care goes a long way. - The coffee pot was absolutely filthy - I couldn't believe how disgusting it was. Obviously did not make any coffee while I was there. - The beds were old and very soft and the sheets felt cheap. I was overheating all night whenever the air conditioning turned off. - Walls are thin and so it's quite loud if there are people in the rooms next to you. - The location isn't great, there aren't many restaurants or shops nearby. This isn't a dig against the hotel, this is just something you should know. If you want to take the subway into Midtown, you'll have to cross the Pulaski bridge. I ended up having to stay an extra night in the city and opted to find a new hotel rather than staying another night here. I was super unimpressed and it really wasn't that much more inexpensive than other areas. They also, like most hotels, took a resort fee, but there weren't any amenities that justified that charge. Love the aesthetic! Felt so clean and warm! Parking was a jam but I would definitely recommend!

This is the worst dirtiest hotel, and the management is disgusting. The prices they charge for the dump are laughable and they are not willing to work out any issues you have during your stay. I saw an actual live roach in the hallway going to our room. I was planning on not bringing it up but now I have no choice. They booked the wrong dates, and we ended up showing up for our reservation and they had booked incorrect dates and marked it as no show, when the hotel wasn't booked. The front desk people were nice enough to get us a room when we showed up exhausted from traveling, and said we could discuss with Expedia later and they would both support our refund request when Expedia contacted them. Ever since then, expedia had called them no less than 5x, with no response, and we were told we needed to call on Mondays at 8:30 or we wouldn't get ahold of the manager (REALLY? A BUSINESS RUNNING THIS WAY?). We have sent no less than 10-20 emails and so has expedia. We finally get ahold of someone today, Christina ( she said she is not required to tell us her name) and told us she was in charge of the hotel, and refused to give her full name or handle it. She cut us off anytime we tried to talk, said it was over a year ago (it wasn't that is concerning for someone the "head" of the hotel doesn't know how many months are in a year) speaking over our questions, telling us its a nonrefundable policy, and that we were blacklisted. Now this is actually DISGUSTING. We have used their other hotels in the chain and now won't even do that. My friends also stay at Henry Norman and will no longer. It is understandable that this is the WORST customer service I have EVER dealt with my life, and now I have to go through dealing with my bank. We also were trying to inquire about setting up a block of rooms, and seeing if we could settle the issue with the non-response to our payment that they have ignored for months, and now after how nasty Christina treated us, we will not "Christina" apparently is the CEO of the Box Hotel....rest assured she will drive this hotel into the grave with her lack of respect, customer service and common sense. Thanks Boxhouse for not even acknowledging issues with your customers and 3rd party booking companys for MONTHS and when you finally respond being completely nasty, defensive, and degrading. read more

Recently stayed for 3-nights in their two bedroom duplex room to attend a wedding in Manhattan and reception held at their rooftop event space. Our room was conveniently located on the 1st floor at the end of the hall pass the lobby. We did not have any issues with noise. They offer free pastries and coffee in the morning if you prefer something light to eat. The hotel is in a good location within walking distance of a nice playground for the kids, many markets to choose from, and various restaurants. The kitchen had everything we needed except kitchen towels. The only thing we had to pick up was hand soap and a roll of paper towels. The room was nice and clean and we paid $75 for early check-in around 11am. We had a very nice and comfortable stay and would recommend this hotel to stay and as a wedding venue. The reception was beautiful on the rooftop and the staff were all great. read more

DON'T GO IF YOU NEED A CRIB The hotel itself, rooms included, was very nice and above my expectations. However, my room specifically had an AC that wouldn't turn on and, despite pre-arranging a crib for my 1 year old baby, they ran out of cribs by the time I checked in. After having to really argue with the hotel over it and contact Airbnb Support, the hotel finally got my AC fixed and brought a crib from a sister hotel around 11:30pm - resulting in getting to bed with a baby around midnight. One person at the front desk was kind and one was not. But the kind person brought the crib that night and offered a free breakfast, which I appreciated. Airbnb Support on their own volition also provided me with a 10% discount over the issue. The hotel proceeded to leave me a false and defamatory review on Airbnb - falsely stating that they delivered the crib within minutes (it actually took over four hours), saying I pressured their staff for a free breakfast (it was offered on their own volition and I didn't even know they had a breakfast at that time), and falsely stating the $80 refund was provided at my behest based on me lying about the lack of a crib to Airbnb Support (when, in fact, when I called Airbnb there was no crib provided and no plan by the hotel to provide a crib and Airbnb ended up providing the $80 refund on their own overnight while I was sleeping because I didn't answer my phone when they called). I then called the manager of the Box House Hotel to discuss the false review. I encountered the worst managerial hotel customer service I have ever experienced on that phone call (which was recorded). The manager confirmed the negative review of me was left in retaliation for me calling Airbnb Support and that they would only remove it if I removed my negative review of the hotel (both of which are against Airbnb policy). The manager stated that cribs, even if pre-arranged in advance and despite being advertised as an amenity without any disclaimer, are never guaranteed at the Box House. So any parent that comes there with a baby does so at their own risk. She said that instead of calling Airbnb Support that night, I should have just cancelled my reservation when I realized that I wouldn't be happy with the hotel (which would result in a fee) and tried to find a new hotel at 11:30pm at night with my baby. She said that would be the only way to avoid a negative review. read more

This is a really great hotel and served our purposes perfectly. We were visiting family living in the apartments around the corner so it was extremely conveniently located. The hotel is very very nice. The rooms are a good size for New York rooms and the amenities are good, including the gym. The staff are very friendly. It was a pleasure to stay at this hotel and we will definitely stay there again. If I had to give it one critique or piece of constructive feedback, I would strongly recommend that they change toilet paper to two ply toilet paper versus single toilet paper. Single ply toilet paper is just Really not very nice at all to use and while that might sound small and trivial, it was clearly annoying enough for me to mention it. If you're gonna charge that much for a room at least give people two ply toilet paper. It means you gotta charge three dollars a night more then do that cause single toilet paper is garbage. Outside that one small thing it really was a great hotel. It's not really located there any main restaurants, etc. There are a couple of coffee shops within walking distance but again for our purposes visiting family in apartments locate close by it was the perfect hotel for us. If you want hotels there more closely located to restaurants and bars, this would not be the one. read more

Wow. So my first night was great. I have a basic queen size room. Everything is clean, immaculate. The bathroom is beautiful. Cory at the front desk was super helpful and pleasant. My issue is happening right now. It's really wild that it is stressed no more the 2 guests are allowed in rooms designed for 2, no events allowed, and you will be escorted off the premises if having an event. I thought this was great! The type of place for me to get rest. Ha. I hear lots of hard walking and terrible singing. I call the front desk and I'm told "there's a wedding on the the roof". Uhm. Ok. Guess y'all do have events. No apologies, just "it should be over by 10:30". Wow. My five star rating deflated to a three. It's fine to have a wedding, but maybe mention that when I arrive. Maybe offer to give me another room, since clearly I'm annoyed. Did not end at 10:30, called and asked for a new room. Told it would end sharply at 11pm. We'll see. Bc I'm over it. I have ALOT of words for ownership and management. It's also poor management and construction if I can hear the wedding a floor down and it's on the roof. Insulate the room. Questioning everything. Denied booking my hotel as I am unable to travel without my service dog. They have a "no service dog" policy. I didn't think this type of policy was legal in NYC. I'm still doing the research and talking with 311. I will update this review upon finishing my research. So many errors: 1. We get to our room with the bellman, and it's not even ready. It's 4:00 pm, btw. 2. We and the bellman go to the front desk where we are told to wait in line. Then offered a room with a "slight" upcharge. We prefer a room WITHOUT an upcharge. (like THAT'S not the oldest trick in the book.) We are given the keys to another room, but the bellman and luggage cart are elsewhere. Our bags are in the lobby. On the floor. Where ANYONE could take them. 3. There's no coffee, no coffee cups by the little coffeemaker. We are assured it will be delivered. The next morning, I went to a deli for coffee. 4. They check your temperature upon entering, you must wear your mask at all times unless eating or drinking, tables are socially distanced apart. The roof is retractable but if it isn't retracted the windows are open for ventilation. The food is nothing to write home about. We ordered the calamari, short rib flatbread. Margherita pizza, and the burger. The calamari was actually super delicious. Crispy, flavorful dipping sauce and not chewy whatsoever. The short rib flatbread you couldn't even taste the flatbread. There was a bean spread on it that was super overpowering. The Margherita pizza was bland with way too much tomato sauce and barely any basil. The burger was alright if anything the sweet potato fries were there best part. Our table ordered bottle service with 2 bottles of 1942. They came out with strobe lights, placed the bottles down and left. I've been to other bars with a bit of more dancing and service. You also cannot dance in the walkway which is difficult because there is barely enough area in your sitting area to dance especially if you have 10+ people read more

Being stuck in NYC due to weather, the box house hotel was welcoming site for a sore body and this weary traveler. Our greeting at 10 pm was met with a wonderful gentleman named John who graciously gave us complimentary breakfast for our stay. Breakfast was delicious and generous. The style and art of the hotel is quaint. The Greenpointe neighborhood is fun, full of life and don't skip the Greenpointe Beer and Ale's smoked pork belly sandwich BLAT. The boyfriend and I wanted to go a little fancier for one of our tryst so we decided to see what this pricey hotel was all about. One word Overpriced. Pros Very clean, room was decorated cool. I like the balcony but without a chair or anything to sit on. It's basically a human size window. The bed was comfortable and despite their being a rooftop bar it was quiet and I got good nights sleep. Check in/out was easy and the front desks associates were courteous. Cons Even with it being cheaper then what they would normally charge still overpriced to me. I got a deal on booking.com. You're paying for the "hipster" location. The room was smaller than I expected. The "chair", if you can call it that, at the desk was hard as hell and honestly I was afraid to sit on it because it looked frail and child size. No microwave or refrigerator. It's was cool for our purpose and we got the experience. But I don't need to return. I would on someone else's dime however. read more

Unique spot at the tip of Greenpoint. It will take you 10-ish minutes to walk to the closest G station, but if you're interested in also getting to know the neighborhood, Box House is a worthy option. Our room was very large, much bigger than many NYC friends' apartments. The bedroom, which was set apart from a living area, was small, but you're not doing much in there besides using the bed, anyway. The bathroom was pretty basic. The single-ply toilet paper is a real bummer, and the bathroom fan started to smell a little mechanical after a few minutes. The shower was super tiny. The outdoor patio is a nice touch, though our room overlooked a highway ramp, so there wasn't much to look at. read more

I originally booked a stay at the Henry Norman hotel. I received a call the day before my stay. Telling me the rules and asking me for full names of my guests and all the things you CAN'T do there. I was like jeez, take it easy. They also told me that they will be housing all of their guests at their sister property, The Box House Hotel. Without any explanation why. I should have asked but I was kinda at a loss for words. What if I specifically booked my stay just because I wanted that hotel? Kind of off putting. I arrived at 3 PM check-in time here. I was kinda blown away with how spacious and beautifully decorated the lobby was. Friendly check-in woman. I was just in awe walking to my room. From the floors to the walls, paintings, decorations, everything! Very clean and tidy. Passed the gym on the way to the elevators. It's out of commission due to COVID-19. All you have to do is put your key card on the device in the elevator and it'll take you to your room without touching your floor number. I liked that. I stayed in room 224. As soon as you get out of the elevators there is a drink vending machine that only takes cards or Apple Pay. Big room with the ice machine across from there. Upon walking into my room, I was pretty floored. Beautiful, big open space. I had a studio with a terrace. Everything was clean and nicely kept. Lots of towels in the bathroom and may I say, the shampoo, conditioner and body wash they provide are amazing! My hair was so soft after using them. Must have been the essential oils. Had a refrigerator and tray of assorted coffee, teas and everything that goes along. Free bottles of water in the fridge and two chocolates on the bed. Went in to a nice, cold room. Big a/c and ceiling fan. Lots of windows with good, natural light. The terrace was nice. No chairs out there though. I saw a few terraces that had some patio furniture so I'm not sure if those people brought their own. Could see the river and Manhattan view. Cozy bed. I just loved everything. I'm so glad too since this hotel wasn't my choice! It was quiet so I got a good nights sleep. Location is great. Near pretty much everything. The only complaint I have is that the original room I paid for came with a minibar and snack bar. I specifically wanted that minibar so when my new room didn't have one, I was ticked off. I paid for it so they should have gave me it in the new place. Would I stay here again? Absolutely. Loved it a lot and look forward to returning. read more

This is such a gorgeous hotel and it smells amazing!!! The rooftop is enclosed so you can still have your swoon worthy views and drink cocktails, even in winter. It's a gorgeous spot for parties and weddings. Can't believe I'm only just discovering this beauty. Talk about a hidden gem! Didn't see the rooms so no comment on those. For $500 a night, you'd think they would offer you more than 1-ply toilet paper and scratchy thin towels. The rooms are poorly lit, especially the bathroom (forget about putting on makeup accurately). That said, although the rooms are also small, they are cute and clean. No high-tech upgrades (lamps and furnishings look like they're straight out of the 70s or 80s, no phone chargers, etc), but totally functional otherwise. I wish they would address the lighting issue and provide some more luxurious items in the bathroom. Total meh stay, despite a beautiful wedding on the roof. read more

This hotel was cute but I was disappointed with it. We booked a duplex room with a balcony. We booked the duplex because there were 4 of us and we wanted the second floor for a little bit of separation. At check in we were "upgraded" to a loft with a terrace. It was a studio style room where the pull out couch and bed were feet from each other. So instead of having separation we all literally stared at each other sleeping. The upgrade was the terrace part. It's 20 degrees outside. We didn't use it. So realistically I paid extra money for a room and ended up getting downgraded. Then, we found out the terrace door wouldn't lock, and I asked to be moved and they instead sent someone to show us how to rig the door so it would lock. We shouldn't have had to worry about that... The beds were uncomfortable (hard as a rock) and there were stains on the pillow cases. The hotel itself isn't near a ton but it is close to the subway. The lobby and room decor were cute but otherwise it wasn't half way as good a stay as I expected. read more

Had to ask 3 of the staff to finally get refunded the last day after checking out. Asked around for directions as tourists but the staff did not seem to care at all.
