So this place isn't called Village Lanes Bowling Center anymore, now it's The Branch. After rebranding the older bowling alley we decided to check it out during our Fall break. The transformation was great! First, each of the lanes is named after various cities in Loudoun, and we were lucky enough to get the Middleburg lane! The animations and face photos make the experience really fun and interactive. There was a ball at the register that you can use to measure your size (S/M/L) which helped the kids a lot. You also pay by the hour and not necessarily by the game which worked for us. It's pretty reasonable since we got two games in with three players. It wasn't very crowded when we went in the early afternoon on a Wednesday so not sure how busy it is during weekends. We ordered the kids slider, kids chicken tenders, and The Loudoun (parmesan-crusted chicken in a lemon caper sauce with roasted veggies over angel hair pasta) to eat. It said they use locally sourced ingredients which is nice. We all agreed - we would come back just for the food since it was all SO delicious!! Even the french fries were very tasty. Bonus, it's delivered right to your lane area and the seating is really spacious. The wait staff was super friendly and accommodating too. There's also plenty of parking outside the bowling alley. Overall I highly recommend you check it out. We will visit the arcades next time we are in the area too.

If you really enjoy bowling without all the new distractions the other lanes have opted for then Village Lanes is highly recommended.

We've now been to The Branch twice this summer thanks to their participation in the "Kids Bowl…read moreFree" program. We would have come eventually anyway, but this just hastened the visit. I am giving the 4 stars based mostly on the first visit. Because the second visit was not so great. I'm sure it was just a glitch in overall operations, but still some things to be aware of. We got a lane for our family of four right away when we arrived around 11:00 on a Tuesday. The ambience is great. I like the little added touch of having all the Loudoun County towns across the top of the lanes. It's nice to have an affordable place to bring the family bowling in the area. The score keeping system is cute and engaging and keeps kids entertained. The alley itself is a little cramped... there is very little space on each lane to actually move/walk past someone. So if you have a party of six (which is the most the will put on a lane) prepare to be VERY cramped. But I get it... they need to maximize on space. The food is decent. We haven't tried just the restaurant but we have ordered food to eat while bowling. Pretty standard. Nothing spectacular but also decent food for a bowling alley. I would definitely recommend this place but maybe at a time when it isn't super busy? Which brings me to our second visit. I guess they were having issues with their cooling system because it was a SAUNA in there. Made all the worse by a lot of people. At 3:00 on a Friday we were told we'd have to sit about 20 minutes for a lane. No big deal. They were busy, I get it. But when there is a wait they need to make sure they are actively policing the lanes. We watched a family of four camped out across TWO lanes... only one of which had they actually been bowling on... sit at their lane for a full 30 minutes after they were done bowling. They even had food delivered there and sat and ate it. If they are going to charge by the game, then people should not be allowed to take up the space after they are done bowling. Nothing was one until my husband went up and asked about it. Also, they do offer leagues here. Based on the condition of the approach on th I would be angry. It was filthy. Which makes sliding impossible. The first time I tried (taking for granted that I would be able to) I almost face planted on the lane. Maybe it was because of the crazy temps inside the building. But that's not great. Hopefully they clean up before leagues. So, overall we'll come back. But if it looks (or feels) like it did on our second visit, I will turn around and walk right back out the door. We probably would have on that day as well, but because we had the kids bowl free coupons, we weren't paying for our games.

I had the Spaghetti with Marinara Sauce. The sauce was very bland. It desperately needs some herbs,…read moreeven if it was dried oregano, basil. Definitely needs some salt. The pasta was OK. It seemed to have been already cooked and possibly sitting in a steam table. The dish would have benefited from some garlic bread on side. I won't order this again. I do like some of the other dishes they serve.

The zip line is pretty fun, even for adults. The staff are pretty helpful in explaining how things work and assist in putting on the harness and taking it off. The slide is also really fun, you get a mat to slide on and go down head-first on what seems a 90 degree plummet and land on an inflatable pillow. One thing I did see people struggling with is the anchoring point of the harness to the rock climbing rig. You gotta have some strength to properly rig it and kids often need assistance. In some of the reviews I read prior to visiting, people said it gets really busy on the weekends and the lines can really put a damper on the experience. We chose to go on a weekday and there were no lines.

Safety is, of course, a top priority, but the current setup is completely inefficient. There simply aren't enough staff members to strap in patrons quickly, leading to an excessive line that ate into the time we paid for. To make matters worse, the climbing walls and ropes course require separate harnesses, forcing kids to stand in line TWICE just to participate. If I had paid for two hours and spent half of that just waiting, I would be beyond frustrated. This setup is unfair to families who expect to actually enjoy the attractions--not just stand in line. I strongly encourage management to look at how other adventure parks operate and adopt a more efficient system. More harness stations and dedicated staff at multiple locations throughout the park would make a huge difference. If things don't change, I imagine many customers (myself included) will hesitate to return and may even request refunds. How can a business thrive if paying guests spend more time waiting than playing? I truly hope improvements are made because this place has so much potential--but right now, it's just not working.

My 12 year old isn't quite ready for the real fun, but lights on gives her a chance to get used it. My favorite Markoff's event, though, is their new Christmas trail and village. Markoff's was a big disappointment. It had been about 20 years since I last went to a haunted…read morehouse/forest and I had heard good things about Markoff's, so I was excited to visit. I found the Midway boring, the Town small, the Trail extensive but not very scary/surprising, and the prices outrageous. Markoff's charged $70 for a Town + Trail combo ticket. Ok, fine, for a unique experience I paid it. I don't think it's terrible compared to concerts, Renn Fest, and other experiences. But I thought the overall quality would be higher. At the Midway, I expected more entertainment and activities. Compared to a Renn Fest, which has tons of shows and activities going on, there is almost nothing at the Markoff's Midway. There were a few food stands (tacos, nachos, and pupusas; cotton candy; donuts; waffles; cotton candy; smores), one bar, a merch store, a small art store, face painting, a zip line, and a log rolling activity. The only entertainment I saw was a pretty tame fire dancer at one point. They played DJ music but song choices were often odd, like Elton John (doesn't say "Haunted Forest" to me). Everything cost more money to do. Beer was an outrageous $15. Tacos $8 for one (but did get good reviews from my friends). Lines were long because they only had one person checking IDs and one cashier, and no one had any hustle. Overall, it was boring. I did the Town first. You wait in a line to be driven in a group to the town. The ride there didn't have any decorations or scares which was a missed opportunity. The Town itself was a fairly basic path in and out of some rooms. Some of the decorations were neat. There were some attempted scares and surprises, but this heavily depends on where you are in your group and if you are close to the group ahead of you -- either people in your own group or the next group can spoil the scare/surprise. There were some actors and some dummies and animatronics. Actors were okay but some were overacting high schoolers. It was pretty short. My immediate reaction was, "That's it?" The Trail was much longer and more substantial than the Town. It is clear this is the main event. It was very long and winding, had lots of different themed areas, and lots of props, decor, animatronics, and actors. But everything felt a little low quality. Many of the themes were old timey, like a crypt; I would have liked a few more modern horror settings like a morgue or hospital. Some of my favorite decor was some old cars near the end because they felt more real than other area. I also would have liked some longer, more involved themed areas; instead, the themes felt short and shallow. Like, give me a whole haunted church to explore instead of just one room. They could also have more creative scares/surprises, like with people above you or below you. Scares/surprises could have been good if not often ruined by people ahead. I'm glad I gave it a shot but I don't recommend it. I would read reviews carefully before doing another haunted house/forest.
