    egg custard tart 5/5
    Allena C.

I dropped by while I was in the neighborhood on a Friday. It was brightly lit inside with one customer other than myself, so it was quiet at around noon. I've had Cherry Blossom Bakery egg tarts before and really enjoyed them! The crust is perfectly flaky and the custard is lightly sweetened. SO YUMMY!!! Great as a dessert or snack! I've had my share of egg tarts and I think the ones Cherry Blossom makes are one of my favorites in the city. The lady who helped me was nice and efficient. There were many other delectable pastries in the display case, but I intentionally came for egg tarts. I'll have to come back and try other things, but I would still include egg tarts! I ordered a few egg tarts this time. I ate one fresh, but stored some in the refrigerator for a few days in an air tight container. They still looked good after 2 days! Amazing!! Many times I would do the same with other egg tarts from other bakeries and the next day, you would see a crack in the middle, wrinkly custard, or the custard would peel away from the crust. But no problem with these! They store well and taste heavenly! Oh, and they were $2 each. 5 stars!!!

Came on a Saturday around 12:10p and was the start of the lunch rush. Parking can be tough but there are lots of metered and residential spots to fight for. The line moved pretty quickly. I do wish they had a menu posted on the side so first-timers like me could decide without blocking the displays. Tried a few pastries: -BBQ pork bun - they also have mini ones -Scallion & ham - smelled amazing and tasted just as good -Curry beef bun - light but in the best way, my favorite Also got the Jasmine milk tea with boba which was chewy and bouncy, really refreshing. Everything fit nicely in the pastry box (minus my drink) with room to spare. They take Zelle, card, and cash. The cakes looked great too (you can preorder those).

Still my favorite location to buy Mini Bbq pork buns, Mini hot dog buns to share with people. But my personal favorite is the raisin bun and onion bun. Their buns are by far the best I have tasted. Not too salty and not too sweet. Parking is a hit or miss but their service is always wonderful.

Egg tart- pretty standard, nice filling with short crust pastry. Very tender Red bean pineapple bun - excellent, bread was soft and warm, cookie crust was crisp and flaky, and filling amount was perfect. I love that they have little mini versions so you can get a few.

Welcomed with a big hello. Great choices. Tasty and decent pricing. Busy and they move quick. Cash or Zelle.

Great local bakery with an amazing selection of yummy food, affordable prices, and homey customer service. Their boxes are also pretty cute if you need to make a gift!

I'm never buying the mousse cake from this bakery again. I ate it two days after Thanksgiving and it was completely moldy. So disgusting. I even ate some before I noticed.

!! CASH ONLY !! Cherry Blossom Bakery is an absolute gem! The selection of fresh, delicious pastries is unbeatable, and everything I tried was top-notch. I got a full box of goodies for just $15, which is an amazing deal considering the quality and flavor. Here's what I had: * Egg Tarts - Buttery, flaky crust with a silky, creamy egg custard filling. Not too sweet, just the perfect balance. * Cocktail Bun - Soft and fluffy bread filled with a sweet coconut filling that was rich and fragrant. Every bite was heaven! * Special BBQ Pork Bun - Unlike your typical char siu bao, this had a unique twist with a slightly crispy top and a perfectly seasoned, tender BBQ pork filling. So good! * Taro Ball - This was such a treat! A lightly fried exterior with a warm, slightly sweet taro filling that was creamy and satisfying. * Custard Bun - Soft, pillowy bun with a luscious, creamy custard inside. It wasn't overly sweet, which made it even better! Everything was fresh, flavorful, and baked to perfection. Just a heads-up: they are CASH ONLY, so make sure to bring cash! Definitely a must-visit if you're in the area. I'll be back for more!

Came in to cherry blossom to do their cake tasting. The lady service us was kind and offered us to sit and have some tea. We tried the mango mousse, chocolate mousse, cappuccino, and strawberry mousse along with their strawberry cream cake. We ended up sticking with the mixed fruitcake and strawberry cream cake. If you order a 3 tiered cake, you can choose up to 3 flavors. The weekend prior we bought their fruitcake for Mother's Day and thought the cake was decent and decided to order our wedding cake here.

I spend thousands of dollars at the bakery each year buying buns and cakes for my family and friends and as a reward for a high spender like me.. I recently received a free bday sponge cake. Love it how they rewards their loyal customers with a generous gift but it's not good as it looks. I ordered this bday cake for my family member and had the most pleasure of discovering the components of the cake. Fruit is fresh, cake tastes fresh however, why do I feel they are skimping out of the sponge cake? Every cake I order from them, I am instantly reminded of how skimpy there are but every time that perhaps... maybe they ran out of cake?? That it's okay to forgive them cuz they are busy? But after buying their cake year round for entire family about 8-9 people, but over time, I came to the conclusion that there is no hope that they will fix the way they make their cake. Unapologetically skimping. 25% cake 20% fruits 55% cream I'm trying to be very fair and report the truth. Maybe the chef loves whip cream and just feel that the cake is better with whip cream? I'm thoroughly disappointed with their cake making practices. I just cannot find the sincerity that's supposed to make me feel appreciated as a customer. Very disappointing.

Ordered a half dozen mini barbecue pork bun and half dozen mini pineapple bun. These were the perfect size to eat one of each. I love eating these!!

I suppose I could have a celery stick, but who am I kidding? This is one bustling place no matter what time of day you're here. I've been to the popular one on Clement, but their Ocean Avenue location is a bigger space and hard to miss since it's in front of the traffic signal at Capitol. Their baked goods selection appeared bigger as well. No surprise that I seem to gravitate to the ones I know best. The $1.80 Custard Bun never fails to disappoint (photo), but the $1.85 Coconut Tart was just too heavy to indulge in beyond a couple of bites (photo). The fancier desserts like the mousses and the cake rolls were tempting, but hey, I've got my girlish figure to consider. BAKED GOODS - 4 stars...the buns deliver satisfaction more than the tarts AMBIANCE - 3.5 stars...cleaner than Clement SERVICE - 2.5 stars...kinda curt here TOTAL - 3 stars...the custard bun saved my visit but not my girlish figure RELATED - Exploring Ingleside? My boss bought mini pork buns from here and it was good so I sampled other buns, and they were good. I got a small cake for my Mom's birthday. The chestnut cake was good, considering they don't have weird pieces of nuts inside. It was a creamy paste. Thanks for the yummy cake. $34

There are three Arsicault locations, but this is the original, opened in 2015 (or so the internet told me). Our hotel was closer to the Tenderloin location, but that area wad sketchy. The line was 15 people long, but moved incredibly fast. The menu is on the front glass window (no prices,). Once you enter, you can see the pastries and corresponding prices. Unfortunately, you enter when it's your time to order, pay grab your food, and then leave. We went twice and our whole interaction was less than a minute per trip!!! We had many things and there were only winners. If you don't want to spend $60 like we did, here are my thoughts on what we tried. Croissants: the almond was the winner by a long shot!!! I liked the ham and cheese, but only if you need a savory option. Chocolate chip croissants are not my favorite, but my daughter ate the whole thing and loved it. The almond chocolate chip had too much going on and it's the only one I would not recommend. The kouign amann is delicious and worth getting. The morning bun is good, but only if you want a bit of citrus flavor (orange zest). The monkey bread was good, but after all the other pastries, it didn't stand out. It seemed similar to the kouign amman in retrospect and I'd need another side by side to really sort out the differences. The chocolate chip cookie is delicious, but beware that it is salted. My son wasn't a fan, but the rest of us liked it. A bonus if you go the Richmond Ariscault -- it's next door to Breck's, a great coffee shop that has seating. Looks like most Arsicault customers grabbed their pastries and went next door to get coffee and sit down. We followed suit and it was a perfect pairing. After our pastries, we went to Golden Gate to walk off the meal. An epic morning!!!

The storefront is small so you pretty much walk inside to tell them what you want, pay, and get your pastries to go. No place to sit; only drip coffee offered. The croissants are crunchy on the outside and flaky on the inside. One of the best croissants in San Francisco. They don't offer a huge selection of pastries but the more popular ones are the croissants and Kouign Amann. With the croissants they offer a number of variations including almond, chocolate, ham and cheese. They also sell scones but I would stick with the croissants in my opinion.

This most recent time I arrived just before opening and waited about an hour and a half for my delicious strawberry roll. If I had got there earlier, I think the line would've been only about 20 to 30 minutes so if you are an early bird they allow you to line up anytime after around 7:45 AM. I listened to a new album and great podcast while I was in line, it can be a great solo activity and makes the wait go by fast! I also enjoy talking to the people around me about whether or not they've been here yet and hearing what their favorite items are or what they're excited to try. This time I met someone who had brought their family member all the way from Mexico to try! I think a lot of the people who are frustrated don't understand that there will be a wait. The owner has explained on her Instagram that the reason they cannot simply bake more is because they are not baking pastries that are designed for bulk creation. They are all handmade small batch goods that simply cannot be made in large quantities. I think when you go into it understanding that it's going to be an experience that more often than not comes with a wait time it is much more enjoyable. I did see some teenagers show up with their parents who immediately seemed like they did not want to get in the line. The thing about lines though is that typically if there is a consistent line somewhere that means it's good! I really admire the parents that did wait with their kids because it is worth it! We all need a little bit of whimsy in our life and these goods and the wonderfully magical people who work there make my day a little brighter each time I go in. The shop itself is decorated so well, you can tell that the cookbooks and tools are not just props on the shelf. They are actually used. There are also a couple glittery surprises that I will leave for you to find out... I cannot recommend this little bakery enough. If you are in San Francisco, even just for a day, add it to the top of your list and start your day with a treat you won't be able to find anywhere else.

The namesake Pistachio Cardamom croissant was excellent for a filled croissant. It had excellent layers and the cream was just enough to add a lusciousness to each bite that wasn't too heavy. The madame lorraine was my other favorite. It was meaty and rich with the soft baked runny yolk and the light touch of rosemary was just enough to accentuate the bite. The not as good...a standard butter croissant. Maybe we got a dud but there was a serious lack of layers in ours and it wasn't as crisp or as buttery as I like. The elote corn croquiche filling was also quite salty which was a shame because the pastry layer was pretty good. I still have two more pastries to try but given the weight and the mixed bag, I definitely expected a lot more from Butter & Crumble. Pro tip: get a butter croissant at Arsicault, walk to B Patisserie and get a kouign amann. You'll have both before the line moves here.

My husband got in line while I waited outside. It's on the first floor of the Japan Center Malls and easy to find in the corner. While the line was long it moved quickly and we ended up ordering two drinks and a few pastries. We had the drinks right away and I enjoyed their honeycomb toffee latte ($8.25) while my husband ordered a flavored lemonade. The Honeycomb latte wasn't overly sweet and the honeycomb on top was a nice treat. The honeycomb itself was sweet and crunchy and you can either pick it out and eat it or stir it into your drink and let it melt. The lemonade my husband ordered was on the sweeter side, but was super refreshing for summer. If you like sweet you'll like this- if you prefer less sweet or tart it may not be for you. We also brought home a few of their pastries. All of them were fresh and well made. The basque cheesecake was creamy and satisfying without being overly sweet. The chocolate chip cookie had dark chocolate and was really rich and satisfying. The last pastry I forget the name of but it was like a cinnamon roll but with an orange glaze and some cocoa powder, this one was also delicious and not overly sweet.
