Looks like they've changed their appearance slightly and their name from Portside to Sausilito Portside. Cookies & staff are still the same. Stonestown market has more vendors now and more crowded. Nice to shop and hear music entertainment every Sunday.

Today I got two puffins. There was the typical line but spotted a friend in line who insisted I get in line with her. Saved 15 minutes. The puffins were light and airy. And plenty of creamy filling. A sure winner.

Such a cute bakery in the Stonestown farmer's market on Sundays! Rain or shine they are baking and churning out yummy pastries and puffins, which remind me of cruffins-remember when those were a thing? The blood orange chocolate puffin was a nice surprise, wasn't too big of a fan of the cream as it ended up on the bottom of the bag however there's a first for everything, and I'm looking forward to trying more of their creative pastries (i.e pear yuzu danish, chocolate hazelnut danish, pistachio bostock).

Trying a croissant and a puffin? Long lines might as well try something

So this little bakery originated from Sausalito,CA is quite unique. My Yelper friend Elaine raves about this place and so I finally managed to swing by this little Stonestown Farmers market at 12:30pm. Normally they would be sold out during end of day, but luckily due to possible rain later tonight, there were still some pastries and loafs left. I picked the butter croissant for $5 and a Puffin $7 which is a hybrid of a croissant and cream puff combination which was interesting. It wasn't too sweet so that was good. It had a nice chocolate piece on top of the cream and a slice of blood orange inside that gave it a nice mild. Blood orange flavor. All in all very nice. I wouldn't mind coming back to try their other pastries! :-)

4.5 stars rounded up Portside Bakery is based out of #sausalidough, their clever Instagram hashtag for the Marin County city, but I found their tent set up at the Stonestown Farmer's Market. The long line intimidated the hell out of me & I ran the other way. I returned a few Sundays later & figured the 10 people ahead of me was as short as it was going to get. I purchased an Olive Loaf, as well as their newest addition, Potato Rosemary Sourdough; both have a crusty outside & a soft but substantial texture on the inside. My favorite savory was the buttery Mushroom Danish w/ Truffle Oil. For sweets, I ordered a Kouig Amann, which has sugary, crystalized layers. It was a little more dense than I like, but make no mistake, I'd get this again! The Almond Croissant and Passionfruit Puffin are fully loaded with filling, the Chocolate Croissant less so, but what chocolate graces the inside taste so freakin' good (that's why I want more!) I don't remember how much the loaves were, but the rest of the haul was priced between $5 and $6 each. Only cashless payments accepted. Portside Bakery makes Sundays extra carbolicious.

Yuzu Custard Puffin, kouign aman and bostock (I believe blood orange almond chocolate).

Yummy pastries worth the wait. Such special Sunday treats!!! We love all their puffins, kouign aman and more!!!

Update: I tried the chocolate hazelnut croissant and boyyyy if you like sweets, this is the stuff. I still got the ham and egg pastry which was almost as good as I remembered but this chocolate hazelnut croissant surprised me. Inside it has chocolate and almond or hazelnut paste? while the top has roasted hazelnuts.

Baguette, olive bread, pan de mie, morning buns, a plain croissant, a chocolate-filled croissant, and a pear & passion fruit danish.

Waited ages in line at the Stonestown farmer's market to try their stuff, and it was seriously worth the wait! I bought several different pastries and three different loaves of bread. My husband and I sampled everything, and it was all amazing. Will definitely buy from them again in the future.

I definitely feel like the team implementing the 7:45AM start time to line up has helped a lot. Not only is it better for the neighbors, but it also makes the whole experience feel a lot less chaotic compared to showing up super early and scrambling to get in line. Everything feels much calmer and organized now. As for the pastries: To be honest, it really depends on what you like. I'm one that gravitates towards pretty much anything with meat and chocolate. Because of that, most of their savory/meaty and creamy pastries are always a must for me. They're super flaky, flavorful and decadent. You can really tell how much time and effort they put into making everything as high quality as possible, especially since you can see them making everything from the window while waiting in line. All in all, I think there's been a lot of improvement over the past year with some trial and error. Their pastries have always been delicious and I personally think it's worth the wait. I recommend getting to the area closer to 7:45AM so you have a better chance of being towards the front of the line. If not, it's still better to come before opening, I just wouldn't recommend getting there right before they open. By then it's not guaranteed that you'll get everything you want since they do run out depending on how many people are there.

Their Hotplate drop every Tuesday at 12PM is literally a war zone, reminding me of trying to get VIP concert tickets on Ticketmaster. And sadly, I haven't been able to score another box since then but oh well, at least I won once lol. I came during my pickup window and there was already a line out the door, maybe 10-12 people. I've heard it can wrap around the block, so honestly this wasn't too bad. The bakery itself in this adorable white and pink building, with cute window details, and neon cake sign. Pre-orders can skip the line, so I went straight inside to collect my little box of victory. My small box came with four pastries: Twice Baked Bourbon Peaches & Cream, Cheesy Ratatouille, Mocha Graham Butterscotch Cruffin, and Strawberry Vanilla Bun. And I gotta be honest, I loved them ALL. The Bourbon Peaches & Cream was heavenly. The pastry was perfectly buttery and flaky, while the cream and filling were rich and smooth. Easily one of my favorites. I'm normally not a cheesy vegetable savory pastry person, but I had to try the Cheesy Ratatouille for the plot lol, and surprisingly it was delicious. The veggies were cooked just right and the combination of cheeses was phenomenal. Strawberry Vanilla Bun was a classic that couldn't go wrong, fresh strawberries, delicious cream, simple and so good. Sadly, I saved the Mocha Graham Butterscotch Cruffin for the next day and all that generous filling made it pretty soggy. It still tasted good, but the cruffin had lost that crispy, flaky texture. That's on me though, so I definitely need a redemption round in the future. Overall, Butter & Crumble is absolutely worth the hype AND the Tuesday 12PM battle. Hopefully one day I can win the war again because there are so many other pastries I still want to try!

Pineapple King Bakery is a takeout suite in the Outer Sunset district. There was no available seating inside or outside. You can save time by preordering online and then coming by to pick up your goodies. Parking was really tough in this area with all of the curbside metered spots occupied. The line wasn't too bad when I stopped by on a weekend afternoon. Posters showing some of the different products were placed on the front windows along with a copy of the menu. You ordered at the service counter that was just a few feet inside the front entrance. Several of the baked goods were on display inside the glass case underneath the counter. A larger menu board hung behind the counter. You could see the army of workers busy in the kitchen preparing different items. Pineapple buns/puffs (bolo baos) of multiple varieties were the stars of the show. Buns with other fillings like BBQ pork, hot dog, coconut cream, etc were also available. Egg tarts, some pastries, and drinks (e.g. milk tea) rounded out the main categories. Combo boxes allowed for larger quantities to be purchased. Coming from the southern most part of this state, we don't have anywhere near the choices for pineapple buns like they have here. I purchased a Deluxe Box to give as a gift for my relatives. It consisted of four mini pineapple buns... Original Pineapple Puff, Matcha Pineapple Puff, Mango Pineapple Puff, Mini Pineapple Bun with butter. For myself, I bought a Pineapple Bun with guava butter, a BBQ Pork Pineapple Bun, and a Pineapple Bun with custard. The total for everything was less than twenty dollars, and the business accepted cash only. The pineapple buns had a milk bread base topped with a crackly, golden cookie-like crust. They were soft and of a decent size for the respective prices. The version with the guava butter was warmed up by the kitchen. They recommended that I consume it right away to appreciate the decadent butter. In hindsight, my only regret was not ordering at least one of the egg tart types to taste and compare to what's available in my hometown. I gave a 4.5 star rating for the products I sampled at Pineapple King Bakery and rounded up.

We had the drinks right away and I enjoyed their honeycomb toffee latte ($8.25) while my husband ordered a flavored lemonade. The Honeycomb latte wasn't overly sweet and the honeycomb on top was a nice treat. The honeycomb itself was sweet and crunchy and you can either pick it out and eat it or stir it into your drink and let it melt. The lemonade my husband ordered was on the sweeter side, but was super refreshing for summer. If you like sweet you'll like this- if you prefer less sweet or tart it may not be for you. We also brought home a few of their pastries. All of them were fresh and well made. The basque cheesecake was creamy and satisfying without being overly sweet. The chocolate chip cookie had dark chocolate and was really rich and satisfying. The last pastry I forget the name of but it was like a cinnamon roll but with an orange glaze and some cocoa powder, this one was also delicious and not overly sweet. The pizza crust was thin and crispy - with just the right amount of chew - and tasted slightly of sourdough. Topping-wise, the mushrooms were abundant but not overpowering; however, I wish there had been other vegetables to balance out the flavor.
