We came from out of town to The Breakfast Mug because it was the closest breakfast place near where we're were staying. My wife and I are both vegan. I saw the menu in advance and knew it wasn't very vegan friendly but since we were with non vegans and since I've been vegan for years, I can always find something anywhere. We placed our order, I just ordered sides. I asked if they used butter and I said no animal products. The server was very nice but didn't seem to understand what I was saying. When the plates came out the potatoes had ham and the toast had butter and the beans had cheese. She seemed confused what the problem was but was totally fine changing them out. After she took the plates back, the manager came over and scolded us like we were children. It was so weird and everyone at the table was caught off guard. We both have worked in the restaurant industry for years and there is no reason to ever speak to a customer that way. It was very out of line. Even if the customer is wrong, you just fix it! In this case, not only did I mention it to the server, I also got up right after she took our order so that I could mention it to another employee about the animal products. They did replace the food and it tasted as expected. I'm only writing this 1 star review because I've been a restaurant manager, and if you're going to come over to the table, it's to apologize for the confusion and to fix the problem. He did not act professional at all. We will not be returning to this restaurant, specifically because of his actions. read more

We were actually looking for some coffee as a midday pick me up but came after hours by accident. Omar and his son graciously let us in to order some coffee... I ordered a breakfast burrito and quite honestly, it had no flavor. I maybe ate a quarter of it due to the lack of flavor and fulfillment. The salsa that came with it also wasn't great. Not sure if they reservations but if they do definitely make one. The service was HORRIBLE. I understand being busy but our server came and took our order after about 10 min of us waiting there and then we didn't get our food until about 25 min later. When the server did check in on us it felt like he was super rushed. Walking in on a late Wednesday morning, we waited several minutes before I sent my daughter toward the kitchen to let them know we were there. She caught eyes with the waitress then ran quickly back to me. Tweens. So skiddish. My daughter ordered biscuit (notice: not plural) and gravy, hash browns, eggs and fruit. I ordered eggs, pork patties (sausage), hash browns, and veggies. Dining al fresco was nice. The gravy was not. My daughter wasn't a fan even with most of it scraped off the biscuit. I would think the gravy meat and pork patties are the same, but they don't taste similar at all. We loved the patties. My vegetables were well seasoned, hash browns crunchy on the outside. Came in for breakfast for my boyfriends birthday. Everything was going fine until our food came. My boyfriend ordered the chilaquiles and on his first bite bit into a chunk of plastic and spit it out into his hand. We told the server that we found a piece of plastic in his food very politely and he said he would tell his manger for a discount. No apology and doesn't acknowledge that mishap the rest of the time we were there. The check comes back and it discounted 25% which was 4 dollars off the chilaquiles. Let me make this clear that I am not looking for free food or a discount. I came in ready to pay for the food for his birthday. I have worked in restaurants since I started working and I am a server currently at a restaurant. Let me just say I have never seen such horrible customer service. I know how the industry works and how certain things should be done and this was not it. I am angry with how this problem was dealt with. I realize it's not so much anyone fault! Not the servers not the cooks not the manager! Accidents happen and things like this are bound to happen in the restaurant industry i get it and have dealt with it. But when you bite into a foreign substance in food you are trusting to be safe to eat it makes you question the food the sanitary of the place and makes the meal in front of you unappetizing!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Not to mention it is his freaking birthday !!!!!!!!!!! The server should have taken the plate away and offered to have the dish re made or offered him something else to eat. The menu was full of interesting options. The service was good and quick. The only problem I have was that my food was barely warm. It was tasty. Chorizo beans and rice, the beans weren't hot enough to melt the cheese. I think it may be because the plates are large, flat and the food was so spread out.maybe heating the plates would improve the overall quality of the food. read more

This place is still in its new phase. I unfortunately have to say it's pretty bland. Soon they'll have specialty coffee but for now it's just a locals' coffee brew (she didn't give the brand name) it was decent but the sugar packets were hard and crystallized as if they had been exposed to moisture or were just plain old packets. I'm not sure... The waffles didn't taste right to me, & the eggs were okay & the cheddar was mild. To be honest I'm very glad their prices were lower than some of their competitors but I do wish the quality was quit different. Overall I'd say it was just an okay breakfast. Nothing too fancy to brag about. Initially there was sugar or salt on the placemat and table when we first sat down. So the table wasn't fully cleaned off before we sat ourselves. Of course that's easy to miss because you cannot see it... I'm thinking either of the two things will happen here: That this place will improve as they get going more or it will only get worse. The was a large crowd of people waiting to be seated ahead of us and we were still seated really fast. Very nice and cheerful inside, very clean too. The staff was very friendly and nice. Teeny tiny newish place but a real gem of a find. I met with a gal pal this week and we decided last minute to find coffee and breakfast. We happened to be driving by and had never seen this place before. Glad we felt whimsy and adventurous that morning because we had the best avocado toast with eggs ever! Coffee was just right too. Service was also fantastic. Hope to see this establishment grow. It's pristine inside and the bathrooms were super clean as well. Overall, the food wasn't bad but I had better. My boyfriend had the Chicken Machaca which was pretty decent and not a bad dish. I had their veggie omelette and it was ok. There was no cheese in it which it needed badly, so I had to sprinkle some of my own in there. The fruit on the side was not super fresh either but it was still edible.
