    The Animal

We stayed at the Mission Pacific Beach Resort so we had breakfast here twice. We sat outside, with beautiful views of the ocean. Service was very good. The Sea and Schmear (smoked salmon bagel) was delicious. Really good tasting everything bagel and house made schmear, though I would have liked the bagel toasted, it ended up being too bready. The Pier View (quiche) was ok. It was not what I was hoping for when I ordered quiche. It was less egg and more cheese, but the cheese was too creamy/soft. The tomatoes on there were refreshing. The Animal (barbacoa burrito) was delicious. Very flavorful. We ordered that both days. The Loco Moco was also good. We substituted the spam for a sausage. The Pier Dog was a giant hot dog and tasted delicious. The only thing that was not good was the coffee. It tasted like hot water. I sent it back twice and then gave up. The latte and cappuccino were fine.

    Tiny cold quiche for $16

Really not great experience unfortunately. I came here many times when it was high/low and loved it but recently came to try the revamp for my birthday brunch and almost everyone at the table was disappointed. To start, our reservation was for 10 people and rather than there being 1 large table (idk if the tables can't be moved but there was no explanation) they gave us 2 tables of 8 so 2 people were left out. The menu is quite expensive for the quality/portion sizes. The quiche (tiny & cold, $16) and French toast (1 thick slice of burnt tasting French toast, $18) were the biggest bummers but the strawberry waffle was pretty lacking for the price as well. Only brought 1 tiny syrup for the 3 plates that would need it but no one really wanted it anyway considering it tasted like generic pancake syrup- would hope for real maple at a place like this?) The animal burger & double O were both decent flavor wise but again quite small portions for the price. The star of the show was the sea & schmear (generous smoked salmon portion but it is a $23 bagel sandwich) Everyone was quite happy with their coffee's so I would maybe go back for another honey latte! Also, not sure if this is typical but the reservation did ask if we were celebrating where we noted it was my birthday, and it was also very obvious considering the several gifts, flowers and balloons at the table- but it was not ever acknowledged whatsoever by the staff (I don't need a whole song or anything but something to note if you like that kind of thing). Otherwise our server was pleasant enough and service was pretty good. Over all won't be returning, which is such a bummer considering the awesome location- wish they would've kept high low!

Nice cafe across from the pier. Beautiful outdoor patio and a smaller indoor space make this a great place for a meal. We were here for breakfast - One simple eggs and spam and also the popular Loco Moco. Everything came out quickly and hot. The eggs/spam/hash browns/ toast breakfast was tasty. The LocoMoco was a little sweeter than most, still delicious. Coffee was served generously, though you had to ask for it frequently as they don't go around filling up cups. Service is friendly and helpful, however not as frequent as one would hope. Still a great experience and would come back again. Enjoy!!

Great service. Food was good. Loved inside/outside options. Grab and go or sit down. Not too pricey. Nice.

Pier View Quiche & Double O omelette

If you're looking for a brunch spot with one of the best views in Oceanside, this is it. Sitting with a front row view of the Oceanside Pier and the ocean, right next to the iconic Top Gun House, the atmosphere alone is worth the visit. The vibe is relaxed, welcoming, and the perfect place to slow down and enjoy the coastal weather. I ordered the Pier View Quiche and it was absolutely delicious. My friend had the Double O Omelette, and after stealing a few bites in the name of quality control, I can confirm it was just as good. The food was fresh, flavorful, and beautifully prepared. I am seriously shocked that there are negative reviews. The real surprise? The lattes. Easily some of the best I've had. Smooth, rich, and perfectly made. Great food, incredible coffee, and unbeatable ocean views. This is definitely a spot I'll be coming back to whenever I need a little Oceanside reset.

    Square fish

We visited The Cafe while on vacation. The food was surprisingly great! The spicy edamame is one of the best I've had! Everyone fully enjoyed their meals. The fries were perfection. The homemade ranch was so tasty! The kids loved the tenders. The spicy chicken and square fish sandwiches had a thin crispy batter that was so good. Everything was fresh. We love the spot so much. We also had breakfast here and lunch two more times. I'm so shocked that they only had three stars. The staff were super friendly as well. There were a few mix ups with our orders. When I ordered takeout, they had forgotten to include the fruit I paid for and I noticed it once I got back to the hotel. I called back and they told me they would give me a refund or I could also come back to pick it up. I would just suggest double checking your order but other than that, everyone was super friendly and great. For breakfast, we tried the guava banana pancakes, which were so good. We also got the avocado toast with soft boiled eggs. Also very tasty. They serve equator coffee so we grabbed coffee a few times from here as well. I highly recommend!

When I'm craving a delicious breakfast made with high-quality, organic, whole-food ingredients, I can order online, swing by, and pick it up without dealing with the rush. It's the perfect option for busy mornings. That said, dining in is worth it too. The atmosphere is warm, inviting, and just a great place to slow down and enjoy your meal. They also have a charming little gift shop with flowers and thoughtfully curated items that make the space feel even more special. With both indoor and outdoor seating, plus a dog-friendly patio, it's an easy place to meet friends or enjoy a quiet morning. Parking can be a little hit or miss, but in my experience, it usually hits. Whether you're grabbing breakfast to go or staying to soak up the vibes, Communal Coffee is always a solid choice. Fresh ingredients, beautiful space, and consistently great food make it an easy five stars.

It's a great spot to meet up with friends or bring my mom when she arrives at the Oside train station from Grover Beach. It's a wonderful place to grab a flavored latte, seasonal drink, a glass of wine and a lunch bite, or all of the above! I also look forward to wandering through their gift area every time, where they stock unique jewelry, candles, fragrance rollerballs and 'clean' nail polish, plants and pots, kids' merchandise, t-shirts, and other cute stuff. I always buy something extra (and special) when I come. Their coffee bar is open, as is the general space, and there is plenty of seating outside in front and in back. You can watch the baristas make your drink and peep the beautiful Italian espresso machine and lovely bouquet of dried flowers by the bar while doing so. They bring their food out to you and when your espresso drink is ready they set it on the bar for you to pick up. Definitely a place to hang vs. grabbing a quick drink and rushing off about your day. I always want to stay and catch up with friends or bring my laptop to do some work, and they never make me feel rushed. Truly one of my favorite coffee shops in North County and in SD in general. (There is another high quality coffee shop in Oceanside that has incredible coffee and pastries--I won't mention the name--but I sometimes sense an attitude from the staff there, and that is a bit of a turnoff.) Go to Communal...you will not regret it!

The first time we went, we ordered Cafe de la Olla and La Morena- both with oat milk and I asked them to double check the syrups did not contain dairy. I was told all was good so we enjoyed our lattes and our daughters shared a hibiscus refresher. On our second and third visit we ordered again, La Morena and one other latte. I asked again if the syrups contained any dairy and was told no. We ordered again with oat milk. On the second visit, my husband had stomach problems and I suspect dairy was somehow inadvertently used. On the third visit, I thought it may have been a fluke, my husband getting sick and so we ordered what we had the first time but this time I got sick. So, I'm not sure if there is dairy in the syrup or if they accidentally used cow milk in our lattes. Too bad too, because the flavors were tasty. We also appreciated the donuts from Doughside Donuts. I'm just not sure we will be ordered coffee from here anymore. The entry is really cute and you automatically see the variety of plants. They sell some jewelry and plant/Mexican pastry merchandise. Service was friendly but parking is not so great, especially when they are busy. Street parking only and it can be slim, especially on street sweep days. Cute shop but be weary if staying away from dairy.
