    Breakfast Special
    Ian M.

I have been going to the Breakfast Nook since the late 80's. It is my gold standard for breakfast places, based mostly on the way they make their home fries. I was so sad when their Wakefield location closed. Patty and the staff there were super friendly and made my family welcome anytime we came in. I am happy that the other location remains. My go-to order is the Breakfast Special. It comes with 2 eggs, bacon, sausage, home fries, and toast. It is just solid and, most importantly, not fancy. A standard breakfast should not be fancy. No extra spices! Your pallet needs time to wake up. This isn't brunch! The aforementioned home fries are flavored with onions and have been keeping warm on the grill, simmering all morning. They are just how I like them. The eggs, meat, and toast are always cooked well and if you like you bacon a little on the cripy side, they will keep them on the grill a little longer. The staff is always friendly, even when they are busy, and keep your coffee filled the entire time you are there. You can do a lot worse for breakfast!

very quick service, friendly staff, affordable food. cozy vibe inside. big menu with everything you'd want

a plate of french toast, fruit, and coffee

They do have parking available which is nice since there area mostly only have street parking. Inside is pretty large and they have lots of tables and counter. It was not too busy so we were sat down right away. They did have some easter specials but i ended up getting Fried chicken sandwich and deviled eggs. Deviled egg came out quickly. It was ok looked kind of sad as seen on the picture. Rest of the food took a while for it to come out which was weird because it wasn't that busy. Maybe short staffed. Finally the food arrived. Fried chicken sandwich was honestly not that great. Looked like it was fried too long, darkened. The cut did not have a lot of meat and it was very dry. The sauce and brioche bun helped it to balance it a bit. Fries were good. Overall the food was ok at best. We decided to try their dessert. We got the easter special egg cheese cake and carrot cake. The desert was excellent. Egg cheese cake had egg and nest looking chocolate frosting which made it look in theme for easter. It had nice creamy cheese flavor with chocolate frosting and good crust at the bottom. Carrot cake was moist and delicious. Service was ok. We had a new server that seemed like was not fully trained yet with knowledge about their menu. Wait was long for the main meal. I can see that she was trying though. Overall the place was ok. Food quality seemed to be inconsistent with the menus. If anything i would come back for the desert if they have the cheese cake around again.

He did come by 4 times to confirm our order because a friend had a food medical condition and that was helpful~ great and loud vibe~

She showed me to my table, brought a carafe of water, and welcomed me in. I was quickly welcomed by Sergio, my server, who shared the special and the soup of the day. Once I ordered my soda I took in the ambiance of the bar, new lights, and the rest of the restaurant. It's not a large building but they make every inch count. Now, the reason you're reading this review- THE FOOD. I ordered the Hot Honey Chicken Sandwich with a Caesar Salad. The chicken (photo below) was perfectly cooked, topped with hot honey, slaw, pickles, and ranch then placed on a soft brioche bun. The meal was reasonably priced as well at $33 which included tip. I will absolutely be back to the Shanty next time I'm in town.

Our waitress was very nice and patient with us while we took awhile to order. I got the grilled chicken sandwich and my friend got the ceasar wrap. The fries were great, sandwiches were also really good! Would like to come back and get one of their main dishes as they all sounded pretty good. We got the bread pudding for dessert (sorry forgot the photo) but that was really good!! Would get again.
