I rarely leave negative reviews, but I feel it's important to share my experience so other brides know what to expect. I booked this company for my wedding hair and makeup and had a trial that was incredibly disappointing. My stylist was very kind, but the end result was nowhere near what I asked for. My hair looked stringy, flat, and messy, pins were literally falling out on the drive home, parts of my hair weren't even curled, and most of my extensions were not used, leaving my hair looking thin and unfinished. When I showed my family and friends, everyone was shocked at how sloppy it looked. The makeup was equally upsetting. Despite telling them in advance that I am a crier and wanted a smoky eye, the look was very light, pink tones & not smoky at all, and it immediately began transferring and melting off as soon as I left. My skin wasn't even primed, and the colors didn't match my skin tone. For the cost of these services, the quality was unacceptable. What made the situation far worse was how Gina handled my concerns. Her email back to me was incredibly condescending, dismissive, and even hurtful. She did not take accountability, offer to rectify the situation, or show any genuine care for my experience. Instead, she argued with me, made excuses that simply weren't true, and even sent back a response that was clearly written with AI rather than authentic communication. For a bride putting her trust in a company for such an important day, being spoken to this way was beyond upsetting. I later went to another artist for a trial, and they were able to accomplish exactly the look I wanted using all my extensions and proper waterproof makeup that held up beautifully with a gorgeous Smokey eye, proving Gina's explanations wrong. Overall, this was one of the most frustrating and disappointing experiences I've had while planning my wedding. Brides deserve to feel pampered and confident on their big day, and unfortunately, this company delivered the opposite. I would not recommend them. They are incredibly responsive and easy to work with, which made my life as an out-of-town bride planning hair and makeup so much easier. They do not have a minimum wedding party number required to work with a wedding, which I appreciated, since only my mom and I needed hair and makeup. I worked with Carla, who is clearly quite experienced and professional in how she carries herself (setting up the room, getting exactly what she needed from the hotel to work with us), which made the afternoon of getting ready for my wedding stress-free. She was responsive and respectful to the changes I wanted to make from my trial. She clearly listened to what I wanted and then delivered beautifully. I am obsessed with Kasia and the Bridal Beauty Team!! For my wedding, Gina assigned Kasia, Mallory, Tanya, and Renee. Everyone looked amazing as the team was so beyond talented. As the bride, my hair and makeup lasted all night long. Kasia was so helpful in creating the final bridal look and her patience and calm demeanor helped the wedding day go smoothly. My experience with bridal beauty team was less than stellar. I loved my hair and makeup at the trial, but the service I got on the day of was not good. They stylists showed up on time, and some of my girls liked their hair but one had to have it redone twice, it just didn't look like the pictures of a simple ponytail. When I went to get my makeup done, the stylist couldn't find the pictures or notes from my trial. I thought it was not a big deal since I had my pictures, but the makeup she did on me looked nothing like what I had done in my trial. I asked for some changes during the touch up time and I looked great, but it was not what I initially asked for. My grandma was having health issues the weeks leading up to my wedding, so I reached out over three weeks before and asked to have those services removed but was unable to since the final invoice had been sent to me. I sucked it up and just paid for these services anyway, and the stylists were scheduled to be with us until 1:45 PM, so I figured we would have more time for touch ups. This was not the case. Two of the three stylists packed up very quickly and seemed eager to get out of there before noon. The one stylist stayed a bit longer and help fixed my one bridesmaids hair, and then I asked her for a simple change on my hair (the bride) and she seemed very upset and my sister even commented that she was being rude about it. I tipped her an extra $20 for her time on top of the 20% tip that is automatically included. I ended up feeling really beautiful, but many of my girls were unhappy with their hair and makeup and one even took her makeup off and reapplied. I just learned that they were not even asked what they wanted done for their makeup. Today I came back from my honeymoon and saw I was charged nearly $50 without my knowledge for parking for the stylists, even though I reserved spots for them in the lot and communicated this with them via email the week before the wedding and on the day of. When I reached out to Kate and Gina about this, Kate sent me rudely toned emails back. Overall, I was happy with how I looked on my big day but it was not worth the $195 I payed as a gift per bridesmaid and mothers, plus the unused service. I originally gave two stars but after the response from the owner to my review, I cannot in good faith support her company at all. We had Kate, Darlene, and Laura do hair and makeup for 12 women for our October 13 wedding. Hiring them was one of the best decisions we made! They arrived on time (despite having to go around a march that was happening downtown right near our hotel) and got to work right away. It took them around 4 hours to get everyone done (10am-2pm). The wedding was at 5:30 and our hair and makeup all looked perfect until 2am that night! Kate has a background in stage makeup and you can really tell by the staying power. Also, I had some minor changes to my hair the day of and it was absolutely no issue. Darlene also spent a ton of extra time perfecting my spouse's hair which she was not even scheduled to do! She really went above and beyond for no other reason than she wanted her to look great. In addition to all of that, Kate is very easy to work with/coordinate with. She responds almost immediately to email, and I appreciate her pricing structure where everything is included up front (lashes, airbrush, trial) as opposed to having to add on to a base price. It's still not cheap (you are paying for high quality here) but it was nice to not have any "hidden" costs which seem to run rampant in the wedding industry. But what had initially drawn us to Kate was her diverse portfolio. We are an interracial, same sex couple with a very diverse group of bridesmaids and you wouldn't believe how hard it was to find someone that was comfortable with and excited to work on all hair types and skin tones. This is a long overdue review! Kate and her team did a fantastic job on my make up & hair for my big day on 1/12/19. I used the Bridal Beauty team for my hair and makeup. I did a hair and makeup trial and the hair trial was horrible. I reached out to ask if I could be reassigned a different hair stylist and they accommodated me but Kate Johnson responded that they "dont have time to do multiple people" with hollywood waves. I wasn't told that there were certain hairstyles that weren't allowed for everyone and it really sucks to be in a contract for $3,000 and not get what you want. I spent a lot of time contemplating losing all the money to find another stylist but I couldn't rationalize it. The day of my wedding, my hair didn't turn out the same as my trial and my curls fell about 3 hours into the day. I had to have my bridesmaid re-curl my hair in the back room at the church. When I originally spoke with Kate I expressed my concern that my hair does not hold curl well and she told me not to worry that they could use products to make it hold. Unfortunately that was not the case. The makeup stayed in place but the hair did not. I have so many photos where my hair just looks like a weird wave. Heather did my bridal hair and makeup and she was wonderful! Heather was so kind to work with and took feedback really well. I have very sensitive skin and she took the time to ask me a million questions and find the right combination of makeup and skin care that make my skin glow and look flawless all night at my party without breaking me out or drying the hell out of my skin. Kate won me over all those years ago because she actually takes the time to listen to what you like/don't like, and to teach you technique. If you don't like something, Kate won't push it on you like some other MUAs will. She really strives to make you feel as amazing as she makes you look! I recently hired Kate to do my makeup for some photos. She did a spectacular job! The airbrushed foundation made my skin look flawless. The eye makeup and false lashes made my eyes pop in the photos. And it did.not.budge despite being a hot, humid day. I recommend her to everyone! I'm very happy that I decided to go with Kate for my hair and makeup for my wedding this summer. I had two ceremonies in one day - one Hindu, and one Christian - and Kate did a great job of helping me decide on my looks for each ceremony. After my first trial, I wasn't happy with the looks, so I came back in for a second time and Kate helped me narrow in on what I wanted to change. She even came to my apartment to give me a spray tan on the 4th of July since I wasn't able to find a spray tan location in the city that was open on that day. Yes, I am a fan of Kate and her crew. They did hair and makeup (very hard to find someone who is strong in both areas!!) for my July 6th wedding. Kate is easy to talk to, flexible, and wants you to be happy with the results. She doesn't bully you into what she wants, she listens to what you want. Kate has a background with stage makeup, so your makeup will not melt off after hours and hours, which is great. The day of the wedding she was prepared, on time and smiley, as was her team. My makeup looked great in pictures that were snapped at 11pm and overall everyone in the bridal party was very happy with their hair and makeup results. My only negative was that my hair didn't turn out exactly like what I described, but it still looked great. Also, my hair and makeup was done last out of all the women, something I thought Kate and I discussed avoiding at the trial. I only mention this because our photographer and videographers arrived and I was totally makeup free. I spent the whole morning watching everyone get their hair and makeup done, and there were a lot of "getting ready" photos that I just threw out since I had no makeup on (and nobody wants a picture of that, ha!). I chose TBBT because they were professional, timely with responses, answered all of my questions and I trusted their system. Kate is exactly as her business name suggests: an artist. I will expound on that further in a moment, but let me first add that she is also a professional, a perfectionist, and an overall joy to work with. My now husband and I were going through some complicated transitions at the same time that we were planning our wedding in his hometown, Chicago, and I had only yelp/theknot/weddingwire and other online review sites to guide me in the selection of our vendors as we made these arrangements from the East Coast. I reached out to probably 15 different salons and hair and makeup professionals, but as soon as I looked into Kate Johnson Artistry, I knew she was special. Of all the vendors I worked with, Kate was consistently the fastest to reply and the most willing to accommodate any and all of my needs and requests. She even managed to make arrangements in her schedule to ensure that we had a hair and makeup trial while I was briefly in Chicago for the summer. Having NEVER been in this kind of situation before, I had only vague notions of the kind of style I wanted, and showed up to the trial with a pinterest page chock full of pictures. Kate looked at it briefly and IMMEDIATELY knew what I wanted. Within a few minutes, she had made me up to look like the Brigitte Bardot I wanted to be. The morning of the wedding, Kate and her assistant Liz were the quintessence of flexibility and professionalism. They managed to seamlessly work through all of my bridesmaids, my mother, and a random friend who was hanging out in the bridal suite and decided she wanted to join in on the fun. Despite all the stress of the days and weeks before, despite the fact that I had been running on little sleep and a terrible diet for days, Kate made me look and feel stunning. The hair and makeup lasted ALL NIGHT LONG, well past the reception and into the night, despite all the tears and sweat. What's more, when it came time to put on my corset-back dress, Kate jumped in to help and put her years as a theater major to work to help get me into it in time for photos. With the benefit of a few days of hindsight and sleep, I can say that Kate was one of the absolute best decisions I made. When planning a wedding, I realize now, you want your vendors to be on your team, you want them to understand you and your vision and do everything they can to help you realize that. Kate does all of this and so much more. I can't recommend her services highly enough. My only complaint was that my hair started to fall at the reception, but it was very minor. Kate and her assistant Chris did hair and makeup for my wedding in May 2015. From the beginning, Kate was a pleasure to work with. She responded almost immediately to my emails and phonecalls. We even had two makeup trials because I was worried I might be allergic to some of the makeup she initially used (makeup allergies run in my family), and I wanted to try some new products before the big day. On the day of the wedding, Kate and Chris came to my house in the morning to get me, my bridesmaids, my mom, and the mother of the groom ready. Kate mostly did hair while Chris mostly did makeup (although Kate did both my hair and makeup). For four and a half hours (without a break), Kate and Chris were relaxed, fun, and upbeat. They insisted on helping my mom apply her own makeup even though she didn't pay for makeup services due to her allergies. Everyone was happy with how they looked for the wedding. My hair and makeup turned out exactly how I had always dreamed. The only issue was that the hair styling ran a little long, which meant the girls who went last couldn't be as picky with their hairstyles as the girls who went first. We had a great experience on our wedding day with the Bridal Beauty Team. I joked before booking that if they're good enough for Netflix, they're good enough for me! Our makeup artist Tiffany was fantastic and super helpful during my trial and making some tweaks to my makeup the day of. I ended up adding additional services for hair for 4 of my girls and it caused a little bit of a schedule mix-up, but Gina and my planner were able to sort it all out and Tiffany and Mary got everyone done on time! I would definitely recommend the Bridal Beauty Team, we had an overall pleasant experience at an affordable price. It did not feel rushed or chaotic the morning of my wedding, we had plenty of time and all the services went smoothly, another point to the high standards and professionalism of the team. Tanya and Lauren were a fantastic team to do hair and makeup for my sisters, Mom, bridesmaid and I for my wedding. They were incredible!
