New place, same great service! I've been going there for literally all my tailoring needs since the early 1990s when they were in Landmark. They are hard-working, will take on any task no matter how big or small and finish everything on time -- and you can always count on superior workmanship no matter what you need tailored. When I returned to show the damage and seek a resolution, the staff were dismissive, refused to take accountability, and ultimately told me to leave the store. There was no effort made to address the damage done to an expensive garment or provide any form of customer support. The tailoring itself is one issue, but the complete lack of professionalism and accountability is what made this experience especially unacceptable.

I used a 40lb washer and dryer, for clothes that would be 2 loads in at-home washer dryer. The washer was 5 dollars for 30min, and I used the dryer for 28min which costed a dollar. They both worked really good. The dryer could have used another quarter for certain items like a small blanket but I was too lazy to wait any longer. During my visit today, I loaded two large-capacity washers, added the appropriate amount of detergent according to the detergent instructions, selected the warm water setting, and started the machines as usual. When the cycles were complete, I immediately noticed that many of the clothes still smelled unwashed and felt as though detergent and soil had not been fully rinsed away. Some items were only damp, some were extremely wet, and others felt almost dry, as though they had not been washed properly. The clothing also retained the same odor it had before being washed. I brought my concerns to the attendant. She checked the washer briefly and stated that because the clothes were wet, the machine had washed them. However, my concern was not whether water had touched the clothing, but that the wash cycle did not appear to clean the clothes properly. I was left with no option but to move everything into another washer and pay to wash all of my laundry a second time. As a result, I spent approximately double what I normally spend on laundry. I was disappointed that there was no attempt to investigate whether the machine malfunctioned or to offer any assistance, reimbursement, or courtesy rewash despite my being a long-time customer. I understand that equipment issues can happen. My frustration comes from having to pay twice to wash the same load and feeling that my concerns were dismissed rather than addressed. I hope management will review the condition and performance of the machines so that other customers do not experience the same problem.

I really wanted to wear them to my cousins wedding and this shop came recommended. I originally thought the strap needed to be shortened, but the staff suggested a different fix. They told me that adding a pad under my foot and a non-slip band on the strap would solve the issue. It helped a little, but not completely leaving me somewhat disappointed. In addition to not receiving a complete fix, what really disappointed me was the service or lack thereof. The man working there barely looked up from what he was doing and never asked me to try on the shoe to see the problem for himself. He gave short, vague suggestions and seemed uninterested in actually helping. I had to walk back and forth to the shelves three separate times to find the products he mentioned, rather than him taking a moment to show me where they were. The whole interaction felt dismissive and rushed. The shop itself is tucked away inside Tysons Mall, so it is easy to miss unless you are looking for it. While it is convenient if you are already nearby, I would not make a special trip back. For a store that specializes in shoes, I expected more attention and care. The experience left me unimpressed and still struggling with the same pair of shoes.

For gown preservation, the staff will begin work on the gown (I had a veil as well), then contact you to assess how it looks before packaging for preservation. My gown was rumpled in the back of my car for nearly a year before I made the time to find a preservation service and take it in, so I have a lot of faith and confidence that the staff here can make miracles happen, especially if you are more timely than I was. I will definitely use Mclean cleaners again for specialty cleaning.

One of my bridesmaids/best friends was in town visiting for a few days and she suggested we go look at dresses while she was here. I found Elaya Vaughn Bridal on Yelp and my friend called right away. And JUST our luck there was an appointment cancellation and she could fit us in the very next day! I got an email confirmation letting me know what to expect, how many people to bring, and the price ranges and sizes of the gowns. The day of the appointment I took two friends and Kate warmly greeted us and kept the champagne flowing the entire appointment! This was by far one of the most fun experiences I've had trying on clothes! Kate asked me questions about my preferences and immediately went to work pulling options for me. I was very fortunate that every dress I tried on fit me pretty well, making it easier to envision what the final look would be. (I'm around a size 4-6 on top and closer to an 8-10 on the bottom, but all the gowns were easily slipped over my head and fell over my hips.) Kate was so helpful offering alternatives when I said which parts of gowns I did and didn't like on me. And suggesting different fabrics to lower cost and be more beach-friendly (my wedding is going to be on a beach). The entire showroom is in the basement of a row house and is beautifully decorated and had plenty of light coming in, which was great for photos. A day after the appointment Kate followed up by email with the details of the dress I liked the most and the design alternations we talked about, letting me know if I was interested to schedule a follow up appointment to get measurements. The COVID-19 situation has proven to be a challenging time for everyone, but especially for small…read morebusinesses. I was introduced to Park's Dress Design and Alterations by a relative of mine, who has had some garments (blouses, dresses, pant suits, etc.) altered over the years. Mrs. Park (she also goes by Sunny) hemmed up a few of my dress slacks and corrected the sleeve lengths on one of my suits and I was pleased with the work. While the prices might be on the higher side as opposed to having these type of alterations done at a dry cleaner, Mrs. Park has had her tailoring business open in Fairfax County for over 25 years, so she must be doing something right. I'm sure I'm not the only person who has encountered challenges purchasing masks/face coverings during this COVID-19 pandemic. What makes things worse is all the conflicting information the public has been receiving on this topic. In late-February and early-March we were told face coverings "aren't effective" and "do more harm than good" so don't wear one. I was always a bit skeptical of this guidance since during my travels to Hong Kong, Japan, Taiwan, South Korea, etc, face masks are very common. So once the "official" guidance was for folks to wear some sort of face covering, all of the masks at drug stores and on-line were sold out or available at exorbitant prices. On a whim, I called Mrs. Park to see if she had started to make any cloth masks, and luckily she had. Her business has experience a dramatic decline due to everyone staying home, but like many businesses, she's had to pivot to adjust to a changing market place. Kudos to her for being resourceful. She has a two main styles of masks to choose from in a variety of colors and patterns. What I like about these masks is there is a small metal piece that contours around the nose and two side slits for additional filtration. I find two small square pieces of trimmed paper towels work pretty well. These are also machine washable and I was told cold water works best. When i picked up my four masks for myself and family, there was a lady who was picking up seven for herself (one for each day). The masks are $15 each and while there are lots of patterns you can download off the Internet and plenty of "how to" tutorials on Youtube, it's worth it for me to just have a professional do it for me. Hours have been reduced during the pandemic, so I recommend calling first to see if she's open and if there are any masks to available for purchase.

Meanwhile, my maid of honor is looking at dresses on another rack that have stains. The place was filthy. I think it's a front.

Here, Melanie would hand me a new gown as i handed her the old one. She'd let me step into it (instead of micromanaging me and dressing me like a toddler like some other places), she'd clamp/zip me up, I'd come out, show it off, then go back into the changing room and take it off, and rinse & repeat. They have a cute floral backdrop to take pics against as well. They had a nice selection of dresses. Three of my bridesmaids joined me for this trip and they all felt comfortable and that they could be themselves. Some other shops I've been to were stiff or very quiet. Diamonds & Pearls was also the first (and only!) shop to suggest turning off the lights so I could see how the dress would look at night time and in darker settings. They do offer in house alterations as well. The only downside to this place was that they didn't have multiple mirrors to see different angles; it was just the one large mirror per my photo. Overall I really enjoyed working with Melanie! She was in my top 2 of bridal shop attendants I've had. My appointment was 90 minutes and because of how efficient it was, I got to try on a lot of dresses!

My soft cat eye top was taken in and from the front center, which changed the look of the dress and where it sat on my chest. I said it wasn't what we discussed and it changed the dress, and they suggested cutting the cat eye corners. I showed them the picture of how it was before and said to make it just that way and the next week luckily they did--it was back as it was! The hemming was just fine and done well. The bustle loops were made of a material that was like a very thin clear fishing line. I was a bit nervous about how it would hold up but I trusted it since I'm no expert. Sadly 1 of 3 bustle loops snapped before walking into the reception and a second bustle loop snapped 10 minutes into dancing. It looks so weird in pictures but it was game time and we couldn't grab a pin. It was a heavy ballgown with a cathedral train and multiple layers. Because it was just so heavy and impossible to hold up, I had to put on my outfit from the rehearsal 30 min into dancing. Luckily I had it with me, but I was so bummed because I wanted to wear it for at least half of the reception dancing! I'd come here for other tailoring because they're quick and reasonable pricing, but not for wedding dresses.
