Over the years this spot grew on me. We would drive from Upper Marlboro to Arlington just to get a decent steak and cheese THEN a few years ago they happened to open a location in Clinton Maryland and we were really happy about that. We recently found out that the Clinton Maryland store closed. This is about the Arlington Virginia location and why sadly we will not be coming back to this location again. We place our order and we were all set to eat at the location and I'm glad that we did. when our order was ready, my husband tasted the fries and asked for another order of fries because those fries were not fresh fresh meaning they weren't hot. As he was about to turn to bring the steak and cheeses to the table. He saw that they dumped our order of fries back into the grease. Oh how he went off! Now why would you place fries back in grease after the customer has already touched them and you've already salted them? Healthcode violation. we got another order of fries, but we won't be going back. the steak and cheese wasn't that good this go round it wasn't seasoned properly and it appeared as though they had already cooked the meat and just placed it back on the grill to warm instead of starting from fresh like they would do in the past. Walked in and immediately got the "this food might be a mistake" vibe. Still ordered--against my better judgment. Floors and tables were dirty; skipped the bathroom check for my own peace of mind. Finally tried after years of passing by on our back & forth between family visits. Parking can be tricky as the lot is tight. Visitors have to put into perspective that this spot has been serving the community since 1959 in the same building so a lot of history. Cool wall of Fame and a Ms. Pac-Man in the corner. Plenty of seating which is good as customers came in waves. They seem to have a loyal customer base. Friendly Counter guy, and I loved the clacking of spatulas on the grill, the sizzling of meat cooking, and the smell of what is to come. We ordered a 12"' deluxe, fries and a can of coke, about $30. Lobby & tables could be cleaner, wife wiped down ours, floors looked a little grimy (remember 1959). Our Steak & Cheese was decent, meat, cheese, and peppers on a bun. Nothing remarkable, a little bland, but have had worse in Philly. Our fries were great & alot of them. Bag was nice & greasy. The Broiler is the quintessential hole in the wall to meet all of your lunchtime and late night cravings. You have to know what you want to have a good experience here. The locals and long-timers seem to stick with traditional American fare like subs, breakfast sandwiches, fries, and pizza. There is plenty seating in the dining room. The customer service is OK. I recommend placing your food order in advance and especially during lunch hour. Parking is available in front of the store and adjacent to the store, however, it is limited. I appreciate that they have the classic Ms. Pac Man arcade game in the dining room for customer entertainment. The console is beat up all over and seems to be an original. This is a solid spot to check out. This has a hole-in-the-wall feel to it but it's somewhere you'll want to go. There's free parking right outside and inside is very casual. Almost cafeteria-like, but clean. Service is very friendly as you place your order with a cashier at the counter. The prices are very reasonable, especially for how much food you get. And the food itself is good. For a small place they actually have a pretty wide variety of choices. For me, I can see this as a keeper. Food is good but don't order online here unless you want to wait 20+ minutes for your order. Every time I order here I end up waiting almost a half hour after my order pickup time. Today I decided to wait the extra 20 minutes before heading over, and normally they're pretty busy but today there was maybe 2-3 other people in there. Again I had to wait 15+ minutes. Living in Arlington for 8 years, I've always been curious about this place and decided to give it a try. It looks very old school but it's part of the charm. They have a small parking lot and some street parking around. We ordered the classic 12 inch and the spicy classic 6 inch with a side of crinkle fries. We waited around 8 minutes for the food to be made? It came made to order, service was quick and friendly, and food came packed well. I was blown away with the cheesesteaks. Yes the price isn't cheap but the 12 inch sub was massive- my husband actually had leftovers for once. My spicy cheesesteak was nice, with a good kick without being too spicy. Both subs had a great cheese to meat ratio and neither felt too greasy. Even the krinkle fries, which I'm usually not a fan of, were really soft and not too dry. An Arlington institution. They only recently got rid of their OG style menu with the peg letters, but the orange booth seats take you back in time. Get a pizza or subs, they're both good. My husband and I personally go for their mushroom cheesesteaks. If you order a large size they essentially hand you a second sub. Pop that in the air fryer the next day and you've got an amazing lunch. The parking lot is tiny and difficult to navigate, so occasionally you'll have to find street parking in the neighborhood around the corner. Columbia Pike is getting a lot of gentrification and fancy expensive apartments. This is one location that I hope they never consider tearing down. read more

This spot is a go-to when it comes to steak subs. My cousin says the other chicken cheesesteak is just as good. This restaurant has its own private parking lot for customers. When I first pulled up, I could not tell if the place was still open because it's exterior was not well maintained. I thought that the staff there was friendly enough, but I will admit that my interaction with them was limited. They have a decent sized dining area, but it is not the cleanest. The floor was filthy and the there was some unidentified stains on the back of the booths. They serve a wide range of chicken and cheese steaks, sub, pizzas and burgers here. That is their bread and butter. I decided to go with the Deluxe Steak and Cheese with a side of fries. It took about 8 minutes for me to get my food and it was fresh, hot and delicious. I could not have gotten a better cheesesteak in Philadelphia. The fries were scrumptious too. This place has an old school feel and I am glad that I was able to make it here. The lesson is to don't judge a book by its cover. They have some delicious food. If it were not for the condition of the restaurant's inside, this would have easily been a 5-star joint. read more

I placed my order on their website for 1 square cheese pizza and fries. CHEESE PIZZA (SQUARE) It's giving Ledos but a thicker bread with much more cheese and less sauce. I like how it was baked and how cheese has an extra golden brown touch. It was decent to me but too much bread, I prefer a thinner and airy crust. Great size and 2 pieces was enough for me tbh. FRENCH FRIES The fries were so good esp since I love crinkly cut. Crispy yet soft in the middle and perfectly yet not overly salted. I wish they added ketchup but instead they gave me packets which I dislike since you have to open like 10 packets just to only be enough for 5 fries lol. They give a generous amount in the bag which is a plus. I would've tried their subs but since I don't eat meat didn't make sense to buy a veggie sub that cost just the same. But I heard there steak and cheese bomb. The place was clean and had a back in the day look. Old style for sure, spacious enough to eat inside with a few of your friends so it's not just pick up. I stopped by The Broiler today on Columbia Pike in Arlington to pick up some lunch. Be careful with the front doors as they are hard to open for some reason. It was slow when I entered but picked up shortly after I ordered. The restaurant is older and can stand some improvements and the dining room area needed some attention ( dirtying tables, trash on the floor). The man who took my order was friendly and the kitchen staff was quick with preparing my order. My fries (crinkle cut-yum) were hot and my chicken and cheese was nicely made and packed with meat, onions, sweet peppers and cheese. I only got a six inch, but it along with the fries were very filling. The order of fries can actually be split by two or three people as I threw most of them away. The Broiler is a sub shop, plain and simple. It has a parking lot, adequate seating, and some Damm good cheesesteaks!!! The menu is small which usually means what they do they are good at. My picture does NOT do my food justice. I ordered a 6" deluxe, which comes with lettuce, tomato, mayonnaise, peppers, and mushrooms. What I did not see until I bit into it was all this beef! Chopped and piled onto a soft roll, this thing was heavy as a brick! I wish it were a bit more seasoned, though. The fries were hot and crispy.
