The chicken strip salad and Greek salad are good. The fish sandwich is somewhat soggy. The fries are good, similar to McDonald's. While they produce good food, much of the food seems as if it is not fresh but frozen. Nevertheless, the Brown Lantern has a strong following and many locals love this long-standing establishment. read more

Wonderful....from beginning to end!! Service & food were awesome! I had fried shrimp lunch & the batter was light & flavorful and the homemade cocktail sauce was wonderful. The food was horrible. I had the BBQ chicken and it was the worse ever. The only thing at our table that was edible was the French dip my daughter ordered. Pretty hard to screw up a sandwich. I guess when your one of the only games in town you can serve mediocre and get away with it. You'd think after 50 years they would have it figured out. Holy Moly! The food is amazing and the beer is ice cold. They had a full house on a Tuesday night, but the wait on our food wasn't long at all (as mentioned in other posts). The shrimp was great by itself, but try adding a little of the Seminole Swamp Seasoning that is on the table to one of your shrimp or to your fries for a touch of spice if that's your thing. read more

The steaks are WAY over priced ($20.00) & though it (the steak) looked big at the start, after cutting away the fat & the gristle, I was left with a little more than a small filet mignon (when it was a new York, as that was all they had to offer, for steaks during lunch) The steak was about 80% gristle. Also, the steak was very bland & dull. The side salad had a lot of wilted lettuce leafs. & I love how when the waitress told me "it comes with croutons," You get 3 croutons! (Such quantity!) Plus usually when served anything fired, the batter is already falling off & or soggy. (Also to screen potential waitress's, they take their picture along with the applications. Thought that was kinda odd.) So if you want to pay for over priced mediocre food, than this is the place for you! read more

This place is in definite need of some upkeep and renovation but then again maybe that's part of the appeal to some people. The food was good for bar food, but the fries were salty and bland. Our waitress was nice and attentive. I agree with the previous reviewer that the styrofoam cups are odd in a sit down restaurant. Overall it is fine, nothing special. read more

Usually very crowded & you have to ask for simple things twice. Like can I please have my silverware with my salad or maybe the salad dressing? Ok, now how about that drink after 10mins? (lol) I hate having to ask twice. Not out of frustration, (well maybe a lil, but I realize they work hard. So hard in fact that some even ignore customers to go chat it up with other servers, when it's busy! Some not all) but anything that has/could do with the people handling/working with your food, maybe perceiving you as being rude, or a "Oh no. Not one of these types that wants to have/get all that paid for." Yea. That's what concerns me.(paranoid much? Well just a lil when it comes to my food & I've seen what has gone on behind closed doors. So reasonably concerned is all. ;) But I do love their fried shrimp & fried oysters!(oh my goodness yass get in mah mouth!) But usually the batter has fallen off (or is, which is normal & ok) But then the bottom of those plumb babies are usually very soggy. Maybe a napkin, cloth something under them to help that issue? But you do get a fair amount of food. & the side/house salads are very lovely. Just love the ranch/house dressing. & the amount of salad that you receive on the plate is just great. (I usually have to get another plate, which is usually under the salad plate. Just to take some salad off of my plate so I have room in which to stir my dressing/topping in to with out it spilling over. Oh & the 4-5 croutons they put on top of those babies, (like they are hording them up for the collapse of the U.S maybe?) are very tasty & are of the non tooth chipping/cracking variety that you tend to find most elsewhere. The smaller fried shrimp seem like the frozen type & their steaks are too over priced for me. (I'd better have some of that aged steak & half a cow for just the starting off prices) The fries seem average. Not really anything spectacular, but not bad. But when you do have prompt service, (& I mean very prompt) it seems like its every 3-5 mins (& of course when you are taking a bite & or chewing your food) that your server stops over to ask how is everything. To your husband. While completely avoiding any eye contact with you. The wife. & So you try to blurt out between bites (covering your mouth before she runs off) that you are still waiting on your 1st drink. So when she promptly brings my husband his drink & is walking off with out bringing my drink again (20ish mins after being seated & still wanting those simple things. I consider that I just might have to trip this girl to get any response, short of making a scene! Joking joking..) So I ended up heading off to the front counter for my drink & now some sauces & extra napkins, because said server couldn't be bothered with asking both paying customers is every thing is just fine. & If I may like a drink, while asking my spouse if he wants a refill. (I was trying to get her attention by making sounds when she ran up on us the last time after taking the order for my husbands now 2nd drink, & staying at the table for a whole .02 seconds.~ha! & In my defense I held up my hand, making the #1 sign also when she asked this. So when does just over looked become/turn into deliberate ignoring? & it was not busy at this time of our visit by the way.) So I am able to quickly get a bartenders attention & explain that while the server for our table is bringing out my husbands refill, that I would be super thrilled to have my 1st drink as well. (Please & thank you) I got a whole bunch of "oh my goshes! Of course right aways" & when the server brought out our drinks (mine included! Woot!) she actually made eye contact With me & asked if I would need anything else. Na, just your name & the check. But maybe that slice of garlic bread that came with my order. (husbands order was perfect. Meh, things happen. But some things happen a lil to often for my tastes.) Would still go back. read more

My husband and I drove to Live Oak to The Brown Lantern yesterday evening to celebrate our 3 year wedding anniversary. The parking lot was full but there wasn't a line to wait to get in so we walked right in and the employee behind the bar looks at my husband then at me and says "we don't have any tables". I said excuse me? She repeated herself, then another employee walks up and I said how long is the wait? She said "idk an hour or so". So I looked to my right to the other bar and I see several bar stools available, I look back at the two employees and they just look at me. So at that moment I chose to turn around and walk away because I felt very disrespected. I felt like we were being discriminated against because we are an interracial couple. I have not ever been treated so rudely at a restaurant. The employee didn't say hi, how are you, how many people are in your party, would you like to sit at the bar? Nothing...just "we don't have any tables." So after thinking about what happened I decided to write this Yelp review and ask all interracial couples to bombard The brown Lantern...this may get their attention and make them realize this is 2017 and we will not tolerate their racism!
