Grilled shrimp, bay scallops & grilled veggies
    Jamie H.

Had a fantastic lunch at this little restaurant on the main drag in Live Oak. This seat-yourself restaurant boasts an enclosed patio, bar area & indoor dining. The full bar also has a really fun list of mixed drinks, plus frozen cocktails & a modest wine list. We stopped in for a late lunch & enjoyed splitting the fried mushrooms with a horse radish/mustard dipping sauce that wasn't super hot or spicy. Our entrees were flavorful beef tips with a tasty brown gravy over rice and a side of turnip greens & creamed corn, as well as a grilled shrimp skewer, fried diver scallops & grilled veggies. Everything was well seasoned & perfectly cooked!

It's always a wonderful experience! Yes the famous shrimp sandwich with roasted veggies is my favorite. Cooked to order, fresh and hot!

It's not far from the heart of downtown Live Oak and not far from the railroad tracks, either, of which you become quickly aware when a freight train passes by. Despite the small space, they have a pool table inside, a bar (of course) and that pool table doubles as a buffet table when they have potlucks and the like. There is apparently also an outdoor tiki bar area in the yard behind the building but I didn't go back there. Beer is the preferred spirit it seems and the crowd is about 99% locals, mostly middle-aged but some in their early to mid twenties. The theme therefore is country/biker to an extent but they were playing old hard rocks standards when I was there and then . . . something . . . not sure what it was, but some song I remember from the early 2000s that probably was Linkin Park or a band that copied Linkin Park. So aside from the B-list or C-list early 2000s blast from the past, a very cool and low-key bar in a very handy location in Live Oak.

Not many tables in the bar area so... we sat right at the bar. The bartender had all kinds of attitude... in the BEST way possible. It was awesome. We started with 12 wings tossed in their buffalo sauce. They were excellent - and this coming from a wing snob. The blue cheese was very good - thick and chunky. For the main course, I got the fish and chips with an extra piece of fish. The fish was great. Fries were above average. They had music bingo (maybe a Tuesday thing?) - that was a bit much but c'est la vie. There was one dude shouting out every song and singer. My guy, get a hobby! lol Highly Recommend! If I lived in that area, I would be a regular!

Especially, the abundance of free parking in downtown Lake City. The Friday night I was there, there was music bingo and a live band. They have live music every Friday and Saturday at the outside stage. Monday is game night. Tuesday is Trivia. Wednesday they have line dancing, including classes for like $5. Thursday is Karaoke!!!! They have a "Culture of Generosity" where you can buy a beer forward. I actually got to be the recipient of one of those free beers. And of course, I paid it forward. The BEER: Seymour-Finnegan's Irish Red Ale 5.7%... smooth slightly sweet great tasting all day crushable goodness Hop Culture IPA 6.5% ABV... looks like a hazy, tastes like a west coast, definitely high in IBUs, has fruity pine nose, good if you love your IPAs extra piney, so very hop forward Pickle Sour 4.5% ABV... oh he11 yummm, I absolutely love this pickle sour. Soooo very good! Rum soaked oak barrel aged Big Hal 7% ABV... there was something I really liked about this. It is a brown ale with a whole bunch of personality Don't have the words though. Big Hal brown ale 6 8% ABV... now I know what I liked about the Rum Soaked Barrel Aged Big Hal this is an all day drinkable brown ale. LOVED IT! I can honestly say I found some fantastic Beer in Lake City, FL. What a wonderful way to spend a Friday evening.

And we didn't want to eat fast food or at a chain restaurant. There was no one else in the large dining room so we decided to sit at the bar. You can't see the bar from the dining room as you must walk through a door. The bar was nice with pads along the edge and hooks underneath to hang your purse. The bartender was friendly and attentive. I ordered fried fish which came with hushpuppies and fries. My lunch was deliscious! The fish was fresh and there was the perfect amount of breading (not too much). The straw fries were hot and yummy. I only ate half and took the rest home for dinner. There was a huge outdoor patio in the back. And both the dining room and patio had stages for live music. This spot had dive vibes but was super clean (even the bathroom).
