Service was a tad slow and appetizers can get pretty pricey for the portions. Also, we were confused when items on the menu were no longer available to purchase. I really want to like this place. It is in a cute area with a nice courtyard for outside dining. But I have eaten here three times and the service is kind of random and the food just isn't great. It isn't bad, but my last meal there didn't have any flavor to it at all. The paninis aren't paninis - they are just grilled sandwiches (and not any better than what I would make at home) and the omlettes are kinda bland. Today was my second time coming here . The food is great but the service is mediocre . I brought my mom in and there was no one at the front register to greet us until someone got their attention in the back . Once we were seated she handed us our menus came back to take our order food took around 20 minutes to get to our table which is understandable it looks like everything is made from scratch . We sat down and we see this big cockroach next to our table . We let one of the servers know they squished it and said it must be the wind . Which again is understandable but the problem is no one tries to make the situation better . No apologies . None . Once we finish our dinner she Hands the bill with no discount or anything for the inconvenience of eating our dinner and having to move and get up because of the cockroach . She hands the receipt again with the discounted meals after I asked if we could get some sort of compensation . She asked me if I wanted water didn't come back with for another 7 minutes . When we left we didn't get a farewell or a follow up . Great food but service isn't weren't it should be. This place has a lot of potential . i like this place. like all of the other reviews said, the courtyard is really nice. It was a rainy day when we came for what was supposed to be brunch, but instead had lunch since we were too late. I had the grilled cheese and Tomato Basil soup (apparently famous, but I've never heard of it!) and it was really yummy. I had this image of the rainy morning and me in my turtle neck and soup. It started to get a little warm once we sat down, and the image was a little damaged, but not so much shattered. Ok. enough rambling about my image. I really love the environment at Brownstone more than anything. The food is really reasonably priced and though the service is slow, it's friendly. Don't come here if you're in a hurry, but for more reasons than one: it's a beautiful spot to sit and lounge in pretty Villa del Sol, so there's need to rush and leave. Soak up the rays! read more

Terrible food. I ordered the 4 cheese grilled cheese with "famous" (according to their menu) tomato basil soup, a currently trendy combo, which I've had at other places in DTF with much pleasure(Twisted Vine, Bourbon Street). I expect a grilled cheese sandwich that cost $9.00 to be a crispy, buttery golden brown with lots of gooey, stretchy cheese. Not so. Theirs had hardly any cheese on it and the bread was white, soft and barely toasted. The worst grilled cheese I've ever had in my life, especially since out was touted as a four-cheese sandwich. The tomato basil soup was chunky and brothy, with big chunks of onions. I prefer mine rich andcreamy. This would have been a bad meal for free but the $9 price tag lead me to expect a quality meal. Plus the mimosa I ordered was warm and I had to ask for ice for it. read more

Sorely disappointed with my visit here (I came here with a group of girls for a baby sprinkle). The servers here are nice enough but the food's poor quality and overall appearance left much much more to be desired. I ordered the Asian chicken salad and it was an eyesore. Romaine, grilled chicken, sprouts, mandarin oranges, noodles. The salad was exactly what was described as in the menu but an eyesore nevertheless. Flat mass of romaine, dry grilled chicken, wilted bagged bean sprouts, and fried noodles from a can. Sad. Mixed greens would be a major improvement, fresh sprouts would be an upgrade. An ok place with decent food. Good selection of pancakes and French toasts, including seasonal specials. Very light on veggies with a limited selection. If you want substitute potatoes for tomatoes, they charge you $2. I think it is ridiculous. My bacon was not cooked enough and was chewy. Just a few days ago I met my financial advisor at the Brownstone Cafe located in the beautiful Villa del Sol Courtyard and he recommended the Banana Split done breakfast style....It was amazing. The presentation was prepared in traditional banana split bowl with fresh cut bananas, blueberries, raspberries, with other assorted fruits topped with yogurt, and yummy granola. If I could use 1 word to describe my experience I would say DISAPPOINTED. The place was dirty, only 1 tiny and unkept bathroom and our table felt sticky even after it was cleaned. They seemed very busy and it took a while for the server to take our drink order. Then we had to wait a while before she took our food order. It also took a long time to get the food to us. Once we got the food, getting a waitress to refill a coffee was a feat. Several servers walked around us but they all ignored us. And the place was hot. I ordered their famous staffed french toast with fresh berries. It was not great. The bread was really hard, and there were not a lot of berries on the plate. Will not be ordering it again (If i ever go there again). Toast came with potatoes (carbs with carbs?) and to substitute for fruit is $2 extra (?). The coffee tasted really bitter and OJ was $8. OJ came in a glass that was 1/3 full and when I asked why the glass was not full, the server said that this was more than they normally give. One thing that I liked was the musician right outside the door playing guitar, and he was good. That made the experience better, but I still will not going back there again. Just moved to Fullerton and decided to walk downtown and explore.... And I had a spectacular breakfast this morning here. It's such a quaint little cafe downtown. My breakfast this morning was a build-your-own omelet with potatoes and toast. So delicious and huge portions. Staff was very friendly, checked in on me and made sure everything was good, continually offered to refill my coffee cup. Highly recommend... I think this is my new Sunday place :) read more

This is a great little find hidden away in the Villa Del Sol in downtown Fullerton. When we showed up in the awkward transition time between breakfast and lunch on a Sunday the waitress brought both menus and let us order whatever we wanted instead of restricting us to one or the other. That's super nice! Atmosphere is great. Sit outdoors near the fountain, you'll feel like your enjoying a meal at a café in Spain. And try their french toast! Omg! They use Ricotta cheese in the center and at first I thought yuk, it's not lasagna ... but I went ahead and ordered and wow, it was so delicious! I wish that this place had better food and way better service because it is in an adorable location. I had the French toast and it wasn't very good I barely touched it and the price was a little high for the quality. The waitress was very rude when I ordered a mimosa and asked for a little more orange juice because it wasn't tasteful at all. I was then charged for an extra glass of orange juice as if I had made the mistake of asking for a little more. This place was VERY unexpected. My friend and I came to DtF to try to eat at Rialto but the wait was over 45 minutes long! The host actually recommended this place to us and we decided to give it a try. The food portions were bigger than we were expecting. It reminded me of those mornings back in college when we actually decided to make a good hearty breakfast to eat. Very homey and cozy. The one thing that sealed the deal though was the decaf coffee! I'm not sure if it was just that day or what but THE BEST DECAF COFFEE I EVER HAD!! Even my friend had to agree and after her first cup of regular coffee asked for the decaf as a refill. read more

The courtyard of The Villa Del Sol building is gorgeous and roomy enough that the tables are generously spread out.
