Amazing repair job. I had a scratch and two little screw head divots in my rear bumper. Gene was able to smoothen it with metal reinforced filler, primer, paint, clear, and solvent it back to new. He really takes pride in his work. The 40+ years he's spent painting cars really shows in his technique. There was no over spray, no fish eyes, and the job came out as close to perfect as one can expect for a mobile repair job. Some dust landed on the clear coat, but I expect that will polish out after the clear coat has hardened. There might be cheaper guys you can find on Craigslist, but beware those jobs will pale in quality. A neighbor of mine tried one of those repair guys and has regretted it ever since. read more

Car: 2012 BMW 328i (Mineral Grey) I damaged the front left side of my BMW. There were several white paint streaks and the bumper was torn in two. I also had tons of scratches on my rear bumper (when I bought the car CPO). Full body shop estimates ran around $1300-$1500. Gene turned this into a pleasant $350 experience. He showed up promptly to look at the damage and provide an estimate. On the day of repairs, he showed up 30 minutes early and got to work promptly. It was fun to see him look up the color of my car and then mix component paints to get the exact color. He was done within 2 hours of starting. For some reason, drunken nights of gallivanting with my best friends doesn't bode well for my cars. Back in undergrad my cousin managed to back my Civic's rear right door into an electric pole while almost flattening my other friend in the process. My civic has whistled like a gap toothed soul man ever since. Fast forward this past Christmas, and my friend decides to give my Benz's bumper a love tap with his Camry. The result: two bolt imprints with chipped paint. After getting a $900 estimate from the dealer, I decided to give Gene a ring. I don't want to throw off his future quotes, but needless to say the price was a LOT more pleasing. I'll admit I was a little bit skeptical, but after setting up an appointment at work, chatting with him, and getting a business card, everything seemed legit. The day of the actual work, Gene arrived early and had everything ready to go. I actually got to stay in my office and continue working while he did my car. After an hour or so, the job was finished and it looked amazing. Maybe a little too good, because the bumper now looks newer than the rest of the car. I'll be observing the bumper in the next few weeks to make sure things stay great. I also plan on getting the car detailed so that should be a good test. However, initial impressions are optimistic and it looks like a good job from what I can tell. Gene even offered to come by to check it out if anything happened to it. Gene did fantastic work on two of my vehicles touching up blemishes. You can tell he's from the old school era and comes with a breadth of auto paint and body work knowledge from putting in serious time at actual body shops. I would guess that he leads the other mobile auto body painters in the region in years of experience by a wide margin. His mobile paint setup in his van is very slick and he's got everything dialed in to get the job done correctly and efficiently. Good help and honest, hard working folks are hard to come by, and Gene truly is that guy. There was an unforeseen blemish that Gene uncovered that was much worse than expected and he was kind enough to return a second time to fix it. He was honest with me saying that given the severity it may not turn out as good as hoped or maybe not even touch up properly and would need complete refinishing at a body shop, but that he would attack the job with everything he had. Well guess what, it turned out exactly like you hoped for! This job would normally melt your wallet at an actual body shop so he saved me a ton of coin. I will not hesitate to return more business to Gene and refer others to him. He is complete and thorough in everything, even in setting up the appointment, getting the proper paint codes from you vehicle, and making sure the weather forecast is favorable for painting. Keep in mind folks that this is touch-up paint work and not full auto body shop refinishing, so it helps to keep proper expectations in check. If you do the OCD get-your-eyeball-to-the-bodypanel test, you may see where things were sprayed. Given this I'd still say the work Gene did was outstanding, especially factoring in the age of one of my vehicles. Bottom line is, bring your business to folks like Gene. Be respectful, look them in the eye, give a nice firm handshake, a laugh and smile wouldn't hurt either, and the result will be nothing short of amazing in a world we live in today where things like this are severely lacking. I accidentally scraped the front bottom side of my Mercedes E350 against a brick wall when I was backing up. I called a few body shops and they told me the bumper would need to be removed and repainted which would require several days in the shop setting me back almost $2k. What a hassle! Long story short some guy backed into my brand new car and left a nasty mark about two months ago. He recommended the bumper zone a few days after the accident, it did not matter who or where as long as my car gets taken care of. Let me tell you, Gene took care of my baby. This review is long overdue. Gene is a WIZARD!! If you've come across this page you've probably begun to realize that there are very few people in the Bay Area that offer this type of Spot repair that Gene does and do it with as much experience (30+ years was it?). I sent Gene some photos of the damaged area and he responded promptly with a quote, answered any questions/concerns I had over the phone, and worked out a time/day that was convenient for both of us. I gave him the provided him with the paint code of my white GTI beforehand so he could make sure he brought the right amount of material. He looks up the paint code on his computer and mixes the paint on the spot in his van! As soon as he saw the damage in person he explained to me exactly what the process would be and what to expect. The pricing was pretty reasonable compared to local body shops but provided the additional benefits of working from my home, maintaining original paint, and a wait time of a few hours compared to weeks in a shop. The repair area is completely unnoticeable to others and I've nearly forgotten that there was even a scratch there! The repair definitely exceeded my expectation. While he was here, he mentioned to me that he was working a new venture for headlight restoration and I had him restore my housemate's Mazdaspeed6 Headlights to make his trip here worthwhile! He sands the original clear coat off of the headlight and applies 3 coats of a new UV resistant clear coat to increase the integrity of it. Excellent job overall. Unfortunately I've had a little f*** up again with my Lexus this time so I've contacted Gene again for his services and to also take care a few of my family's other cars. Amazing work...and an exceptional value! A few weeks ago, I scratched the bumper of my brand new 2014 Camry putting my mom's walker in the trunk. I found Gene through Yelp and he lived up to the expectations generated by his business' flawless reviews. I ran over a curb and scratched the bottom of my front bumper a few weeks ago. All body repair shops I consulted asked for several hundred dollars to fix the problem, and several days to do the job. I'll try keep it simple and to the point. Someone backed into my car's rear bumper and scratched it. A tough color to match being silver streak mica. I emailed 4 local shops with 5 star ratings on yelp with photos of the damage. Gene was 1st to reply and the lowest quote out of the four, very low! We exchanged emails and received quick replies. The other shops took 2 to 3 days to get back to me. Gene called to set a final schedule and let me know, that he's book for a week or two in advance. I was fine with the scheduling. The appointment was at 8:30 AM and he arrived on time. Be sure your home or location has room for his van. Space wasn't a problem where I lived. Gene described the paint procedure to me before getting started. He took his time and a lot of care: covered the whole car, masking and prepping the area. It took about an hour or a bit more from start to finish painting. Gene was very open talking about his background and experience the entire time. I did show Gene 2 other problem areas on my car (front bumper and front passenger door), for a future appointment. He touched up the door area and still stayed within his quote. Gene the owner The Bumper Zone was referred to me by a long time friend who previously managed a service department for many years at an Acura Dealership. I have a 2015 Tesla Model S and someone had apparently run a grocery cart hard into my back left bumper. It left quite a gouge, as it caused a support post underneath to punch through from the back side. Gene gave me a very reasonable estimate of $200 and I was amazed at the number of steps he took to do the job right. He has tremendous pride in his work and it shows. He ground it down. Then made sure he had the correct color paint by comparing it to the paint number on my door jamb. He covered my car and wheel to make sure no overspray would land on it. He mixed the paint and air sprayed it and blended it to the bumper. He then used a small dryer mounted to a drying rack, and sprayed it with a factory clear coat. He finished it off with a blending coat. He came to my house for the job and worked on it for 2 hours. When he was finished, the bumper looked new again and the paint matched perfectly!!
