Excellent bacon cheeseburger. A good half pound burger with good Swiss cheese (American & Cheddar cheese also available) with three just cooked slices of thick cut bacon on an excellent and properly toasted bun. I asked for it medium and got a still juicy perfect medium. Fries were a bit on the soggy side the first few times I went but have improved greatly of late. Service is friendly and cooperative. I normally go during the slow afternoon hours but was there the past weekend with a group of friends during the busy evening shift. Still got a great burger but the place is very loud and our salad eaters were not thrilled. Service also suffered but was acceptable. Price about average for the area with an excellent choice of beers. My advice: stick to the burgers and try to avoid happy hour. read more

This is one of our favorite places in Somers. We have been there at least a dozen times. There are a number of great items on the menu. Everything is fresh and prepared to order. There are very few restaurants that change names, owners, and menus as much as this building has. Once a promise land of opportunity, Somers is once again living on a prayer in hopes that travelers will either breakdown on their travels through Somers, OR the town thinks that quaint, antiquated, mediocre offerings will bring the boom back to booming. Burger Barn's missed chance was when Pepsi and IBM ruled route 100, helping to drive success to any local business weaving into a local community. So where are the areas of improvement? Atmosphere! Excitement! Reputation! Flavor! Outside of this being a restaurant in a small town that may hook a visitor like a limp worm would hook a medium fish in a small pond, Burger Barn will more than likely fall as its many predecessors. Party of 3 on a Thursday Night at 8:30 - the place was packed and we had a short wait time. The servers are outgoing, polite and happy. The food - we had wings- medium $8.50 and French Onion soup $7.25 to start - quite good but the onions could cook a bit more but still good. For dinner - hubby had the John Hancock (burger with fried egg and cheese on top $14.50); Daughter had the poached salmon in dill sauce $19.95 and it's a very generous portion of fish; I had the bunless burger with goat cheese $13. All we can say is - yum! The only thing missing is Sweet Potato Fries but they do offer for an appetizer a Twice Baked Sweet Potato which came with the Salmon Entree and it was really good. Stopped here for a lunch a few Saturdays ago en route upstate. What a great spot! Place was packed so my wife and I waited at the bar for roughly 15 minutes. They have some good beers on tap (I had an Ithaca Flower Power). Staff was very friendly. We both had Cheeseburgers, and split an order of the fried pickles. The fried pickles were awesome... and the burger was even better. I saw someone a table over get the onion rings. I will definitely be getting those next time. Four of us went early on a recent Sunday evening. The restaurant was mostly empty (about 4 or 5 tables were occupied). We ordered wings for an appetizer and waited almost 30 minutes for them to arrive. They were small, overcooked, greasy, and tasteless. We waited another 30 minutes for our main course: three burgers and one onion soup. The waiter brought out 2 of the 3 burgers...apparently he never entered the other one into the computer. Another 10 minute wait for the last burger to come out of the kitchen! Though the burgers were tasty, the wings were terrible and the service was bad. Can't imagine what it must be like on a busy Friday or Saturday night! We won't be back...there are much better places around (for a lot less money). read more

I have family friends who live in the area and we've gone here three times so far when I'm out visiting them. I enjoy gourmet burgers and a beer, so this place is right up my alley. My friends have kids, who luckily haven't come along when I've been with them (not a fan of kids), but apparently this is their usual Monday spot because there's some type of kids eat free deal on Monday. Now, for some advice on what to get (in my opinion): - The homemade chili is amazing. My personal favorite starter. My girlfriend swears by the fried pickles and the truffle mac and cheese. The last time we went,I got the chili as always and then split the frickles and mac n cheese. - For the burger... I love the Jon Hancock burger, although I'm not sure the relation to the burger and the Mr. Hancock. It has a fried egg on it though so it's awesome. One time I got the truffle shuffle burger and that was pretty sweet as well. I like truffle oil and shrooms. It's just not enough to beat out the fried egg. - The lady goes with one of their salads. I think she gets the goat cheese salad, but really not sure. It looked good though. Extra notes: - They have gluten free meals, which is convenient because one of our friends is trying to convince herself that she can't eat gluten. I'm sure she eats gluten products when no one's watching, but can't really call her out on it. Regardless, they were able to accommodate her gluten free fad with a few options. - Waiting staff was good. Never had to wait long for a fresh beer. One of the times we had this waitress who I can't remember her name but she was extremely friendly so we threw some extra cheese on the tip at the end. read more

I've been waiting in the bar are for over 20 minutes to pick up an order I placed 30 minutes ago. This is not the first time this place has made waste my time waiting. The food is good, and when I dine here, the table service is good as well. But, they don't seem to take their take-out customers with the same level of respect. I wasn't even offered any water while I waited. When I asked where my order was, they lied - "it's being packed". No it wasn't! I later found out It was being prepared! Three of us dined at the Burgar Barn on May 10th 2012 and to say the least the servce was horendous. We sat down and shortly thereafter we ordered cocktails and wings as an apetizer. 15 minutes later the drinks arrived, two beers and a glass of house red wine, The beer was cold, but unnexpctedly the wine was eqaualy cold. We questioned the waiter about the wine and his response is that how we serve the house wine. Thw wings arrived about 30 miniutes after they were ordered and that was only after we got up and questioned a woman we thought might be the owner. Mysteriously after questioning the woman they arrived about 5 minutes later and were actually pretty good. Once we ordered three burgers, they arrived about 45 minutes later. The burgers were decent, nothing great but decent none the less. The french fries were soggy at best. It seemed to be a reckelssly run operation which is unfortunate. If you are not in a rush and like soggy fries you may like the Burger Barn. The likely hood of a return visit is not good, unless I were to hear that they made a major turn around in how they operate. read more

Tried it for thr first time when they first opened. The service was poor at best and the food was just O.K. Waited a long time for the Entree and the check and my burger wasn't cooked to temp. As a fellow Restaurant owner, I fully understand the inner workings and challenges of running a Restaurant. Giving them the benefit of the doubt, we figured we'd try it again. What a mistake!...After waiting 10 minutes and watching what turned out to be our waitress wait on her friends who had just sat at the next table - we got up and left. They got their drinks and she took their orders and we weren't even acknowledged. Furthermore, after speaking with the owner, there was no apology or even the slightest attempt to rectify. Last night was my second visit, the first time around I had a nice BLT. I feel it's a bit overpriced for what you get but that's Westchester. Last night I was someone's guest, my host asked to be seated away from the free face painting table and we were seated at the table next to it. As I was a guest it wasn't up to me to complain. The waiter was very pleasant and told us it was his first night, actually I think his first table. I ordered the "Shaved Ribeye sandwich with Gorgonzola and onions", fries well done. When our order arrived they brought me out a well done ribeye steak that looked about 1/4" thick with carrots and broccoli. I told them that it wasn't mine. The waiter came over and apologized and thought I had ordered a ribeye steak that is apparently on the menu and said he would get the correct sandwich out to me ASAP. I have no fault with him, he was new and mistakes happen. The real fault lies in the kitchen. I guess margins are too tight for them to have sent out what I actually ordered, a Shaved Ribeye Sandwich. They simply took the well done steak they brought out the first time and cut it into 1/4" x 1/4" strips and put it on a roll. Fool the customer. Again, I was a guest so I didn't make a complaint but for all the pleasantries of the staff, the food doesn't seem to matter as far as the customer is concerned, just the bottom line. Went to Burger Barn last night for the first time. The place is bright and cheerful. We were greeted as we came in and seated quickly. The server came to the table quickly. She was very nice and gave us a run down of the restaurant. She was very nice about speaking up for my father on law:). We tried the fried pickles and onion rings for an appetizer. My husband said that they were the best onion rings he every had. They were not heavily coated. They were crispy and you could taste the sweet onion. The pickles were dipped in what I believe was a cornmeal batter and they too were were nice and crispy. We had never had fried pickles before and we loved them. The burgers were nice and juicy. They were very fresh and tastey. All in all it was a great time. We ate early (at 6pm) and when we left the place was buzzing. The bar does a good after-work business, and this was a Tuesday. There was a bug in my food. I visited about one week ago, the service was decent, and the food seemed OK, but the fact that this restaurant brought me my food with a BUG in it is disturbing. Even more disturbing to me was that, after bringing this to the attention of the staff, they didn't take ANYTHING off the bill. Everything was excellent except for the actual meat in the burger patty; which of course ruined the entire burger. That being said, they cooked the burger perfectly to my request (medium rare). I had the Tex-Mex burger the toppings bacon, avocado, Pico de Gallo and Monterey Jack; the toppings were of good quality substantial but did not over power the actual burger. The Fried Pickles were the best I've had, the fries excellent, I added the chipotle sauce on my burger and for my fries it was also very well done. Staff was very friendly, helpful and accommodating. They have a very nice selection of craft beer on tap which is a big plus, good wine, and fair prices. I'd give the burger a second chance and the Mac and Cheese looked good. And even if the burger was the same I'd go back and just have beer and apps and be happy. read more

My family were driving by on our way home and decided to stop in for a burger. What we found was a clean, comfortable, nicely decorated restaurant with a nice bar in a separate room off to the side. The hostess was sweet and sat us at a 4 top. Our waiter Will was over the top attentive and nice. We order wings-mild and hot-and they were delicious! Truffle Mac and cheese was yummy. I also got the Bun-less Burger salad..and I loved it. My husband got the John Hancock burger and ate every bit of it! We will be going back next time we drive up that way. read more

This place, seriously it Super Secedes any place in westchester by far! Service, food, drinks and obeisance will be given 10/10. I am a family woman and when you bring kids out and a cranky husband from working all day I expect dinner to be a moment where I count down the minutes until I can put this clan to sleep. I thank the evening to our waitress and her attentiveness to each of our needs. If a cups were empty by the time I told her she was already walking towards us with more drinks. I haven't had a glass of wine in months bc my monsters keep me from relaxing however this weekend I did!!! And everything went smooth. My husband enjoyed craft beers (nice selection, so he says). Kids had the popcorn and you would think it was gold, very cleaver snack while we wait for meal. I just want to thank my server and the owner(s) for a few hours of relaxation WITH my family!! Usually we have to get a sitter to enjoy the night. It was like a Sunday on Friday night:) This will become a part of our schedules. AND YES OF COURSE THE FOOD HIT THE SPOT!!! Don't change burger barn. Places like these (far and few between) are the last seed of having the American family dinner. Note to customers here is a suprising FACT : if your server is excellent provide them with CASH tip because if it is a credit card they lose 4% of their hard earned money because credit cards charge them to use their service and plus they pay extra taxes. I'm a math teacher: So let's say you tip your server'$100.00 they lose $4.00 along with an extra $25.00 after they tip there buser and food carrier as well as bartender. now deduct taxes and that $100.00 turns into approx. $70-73.00...what happen to the good old days when tips were considered a gift. My wife took a bite out of her turkey burger, only to find out that it was raw inside. She sent it back (to know my wife is to know she NEVER sends back her food in a restaurant) and asked that they please cook this through. When it came back less than 5 minutes later, instead of taking another bite, she cut it in half. Still raw! How does a restaurant with the name "Burger" in it not know how to cook a turkey burger the whole way through? I suppose if it were a hamburger, had she asked for it medium-well and it came out medium, we might not have known the difference, but this is a turkey burger, which should ONLY be cooked through completely. Oh, and my "shaved" rib eye was anything but shaved, it was fatty and rubbery. For what it's worth the host/manager/owner was totally apologetic. As an aside, the $15 price tag for these burgers, are insane. This is not NYC and these were not $15 burgers. Total disappointment. Next time we want a burger, we won't be coming here. read more

Ohhhh the burger barn! What can I say. For a few weeks my husband and I continuously dined here. I was so happy that the popcorn machine no longer reeked of turpentine and We found the burgers were not only good, but juicy and fresh. I loved the burger to bun ratio and felt their choice of putting two slices of cheese instead of one was perfect. I'm an onion ring lover and this place has beer battered onion rings, score! However, or maybe I should say unfortunately. Unfortunately we decided to eat out on a very busy Saturday evening, we had our three year old with us which we knew would be fine because this place just screams family. Anyway, when we walked in they asked how many and I responded "2 and a baby" my child still needs a high chair bc a booster seat I find is not restraining enough, so I always make sure to tell the hostess that we have a baby so they can obviously note that we need a high chair. After waiting for 20-25 min, starving. The hostess finally leads me down to our table, my husband and kid were in the car because he was getting restless waiting in such a confined area. Upon seeing our table I immediately tell her I need high chair assuming she just forgot that 25 min ago I had told her we had a baby, or maybe she just didn't care. I then notice her look of horror when she realizes oh crap! They need a high chair and we have none left. She tells me she's gonna go check to see if they have any left. Now at this point I'm pretty pissed. Not only am I starving, I'm hangry. The hostess comes back and tells me that she's sorry but there's no high chairs available and if we wanted to we could wait another 20-25min for a high chair. The answer was obviously no! Are you kidding me?! She expected us to wait a total of 45 min to be seated?! That is just utterly ridiculous especially after I specifically told her we had a child with us! Visited Burger Barn twice, once solo & again with family. On both occasions, the service was impossibly slow even though the restaurant was by no means busy. I really don't get that?? Two visits, two different waiters, and neither ever checked back for drink refills, etc, and the wait for the check is painful. Burger Barn needs better waitstaff training. My gigs bacon cheeseburger and fries were ok, nothing memorable. We all agreed that the chicken wings (hot) were delish. Overall, I don't think I'll return. read more

We came back to give The Burger Barn another chance because the last time we were here it wasn't great. I have to say I'm so disappointed. They better up their game or they will not be here around much longer (IMO). Tonight I went with wine. It was fine. The waitress was not "super" and certainly not the bubbly personality we usually get here. We waited over 45 minutes for our food to be delivered. I tried several times to get our waitress' attention and it was impossible. There was a table of two immediately next to us and a table of 4 or 5 - they were both seated and served before us. The waitress eventually looked at us and seemed "embarrassed" that we were waiting for food. Our food was delivered. It was not even warm, mine was basically cold, my husbands rare burger may have been under a heat lamp, but it was well overcooked, and not really hot. the fries were terrible. She dropped off our dishes said, a hasty sorry for the wait and never returned. We were starving so we ate our food, but we did not enjoy it at all. I mentioned this to one of the "owners" actually it's his Mom. She was apologetic, but no effort was made to make us feel as if we were appreciated or our negative opinion valued - no effort was made to "make good." I don't think we will be back. It's a shame really because the service has gone down hill. Except of one bus boy who actually looked at us as we were leaving and said thank you have a good night, the staff is losing their enthusiasm. I feel that when a server makes a mistake ... and it's human nature... at least own up to it. A well meant apology would have gone very far. Not the wishy washy oh sorry that we received. Really... very bad overall and I'm rethinking I'd like to give a 1 star but my wine wasn't terrible and the bus boy saved the day! read more

In this day and age to see "No substitutions" on a menu is rather surprising. It also only lists American or swiss cheeses for the burgers. No cheddar or blue cheese? Food was good, service was some of the worst. They had a preponderance of teenage busboys that lined the back wall and stared at the dozen or so tables which were unattended by any wait staff for over 20 minutes (as if to comically mock the customers with an appearance of attendance while no one was getting served). While I understand the separation of duties, the 4 or 5 busboys were unable to do anything outside of clearing tables -- but there was nothing to clear because there was no wait staff bringing food or drinks, which is why they were leaning against the wall and talking. After 20 minutes, our waiter finally came by to take our drink and food order -- great, we thought, out of the clear and ready to enjoy our meal. No so fast (pun intended) -- 20 minutes later and still no drinks, water or appetizers. We still had 4 busboys watching our table, however, though still unable to check on orders, bring any drinks or be of any use to the waiting customers. At about the 45 minute mark, our drinks arrive followed by food shortly thereafter -- and an increased presence of wait staff in the form of (who I believe was) the owner. Food was good once it arrived, and the staff was quick to drop off the bill and take payment (I guess that was the priority). If you are looking for a decent burger in Somers (and have time to waste), then it's worth a stop. If you're outside of Somers, probably not worth the drive -- there's better places in Mt Kisco and Ridgefield. If you really want to try a burger at this place, you'd probably better hurry up and check it out -- because in the already-tough restaurant business, this place probably won't last with service like we saw last night. read more
