I've eaten at The Butler many many times; it's been in Saugatuck forever. I've never been disappointed and last night was no different. The place was hoppin' but we only had a 15 minute wait. Our server was great - efficient and friendly. My husband had the pot roast sandwich and said it melted in his mouth. I had an open face burger with a maple syrup/bacon sauce drizzled over top. My family's go-to spot when in Saugutuck. Service is always excellent and fast. No reservations necessary - lots of seating. Cocktail options are diverse and high quality. I especially love their salad options - high quality ingredients and tasty (although I do believe they forgot the quinoa in mine.) I got the squash and sprouts salad with steak. A beautiful place to sit right next to the marina in Saugatuck. Accessible seating for young children and we just stowed our stroller for our infant in the corner of the restaurant. I got the Steakhouse burger with blue cheese and mushrooms which was well cooked. My husband got some of their fried shrimp. I must say I most liked their sweet potato fries and Butler fries, which are house cut circular sliced fried potatoes. I think it could have been a four star experience if they served a nicer hamburger bun as they did a nice job toasting and buttering it but was a little dry. This place was way overpriced for the tasteless food we received last night. My fiancee felt sick to her stomach after eating the walleye. It had a weird taste and she had to pick out several bones in order to eat it. For the price of $22. On top of that, the sweet potato fries were cold and soggy. I went there over labor day weekend. Unfortunately I think they we're having staffing issues, which is understandable (most places are), we waited 1.5 hours for a table so we just walked around. The food was good and tasted fresh, I ordered the Fried Perch Basket and it came with a ton of fries and even onion rings. I think its a pretty busy place so I didn't feel "relaxed". Four of us dined here for a birthday lunch. We were told there would be a 20-30 minute wait. It ended up being a 50 minute wait. The restaurant was understaffed and the wait staff was very apologetic. I ordered shrimp tacos. They were rubbery, cold and tasteless and were topped with wilted kale and plain cabbage, not coleslaw. It was a very disappointing lunch. The server was very nice and we tipped her well. Just was not a good lunch. The 3 others had the perch sandwich and all said Coral Gables perch was much better. The wait time was supposed to be 30-45 min and we waited an hour and a half. The only reason we were served was because we asked our bartender if we could see a menu in the meantime and we asked where we were at on the waitlist twice. She ended up taking our order because they either skipped us or our name was not coming up and they were taking too long. Either way our bartender was great, the food was good but the service everywhere else was bad. At the entrance and we were kicked out of a table...know body was sitting at because supposedly having people at those table "would confuse the wait staff". I cannot rave enough about how wonderful the food, service, and atmosphere is at the Butler. This was our first time and will not be out last. I had the Smoked Brisket Beef and Cheddar which is by far the best Brisket sandwich I have ever had. My husband had the steak. He liked it but said it wasn't the best he ever had. Been coming to the Butler for years. In fact my husband worked there when we got married, my oldest son worked there his early high school years and many other family members have worked there over the years. One thing is for sure, you can tell the Whites don't own it anymore because they wouldn't allow the lack of organization when it comes to being timely on service, and getting the orders right. We've been there 3 times in the last 3 months. First time was May, lots of training getting ready for the busy season. 3 tables around us were complaining about the food and sloooow service. We chalked it up to new people- we've all worked in the industry, we understand. Took forever to get our food. Never got a water refill- but they pushed the alcohol no matter how often we said no, we were good. Second time, a week ago. Ate on the patio downstairs. 30 minute wait for a table actually only took maybe 20! Great! Tables are pretty close, I feel servers struggle to get around. We ordered. A burger and a salad with grilled chicken. It took about 1-1/2 hrs to get our food. They forgot the chicken on the salad, we had to ask. If you need anything ask right away, they never come back to check on you! 3rd time- last Friday night. Ate inside, no wait everyone was outside. Ordered took a long time to get our food again. We did at least have something to watch to pass our time and that was an unconscious gentleman that an ambulance came to get even though his partner asked the staff not to call?! Staff did an amazing job dealing with that situation, and thankfully he was in the back room and they were able to isolate the situation and close it off for cleaning. They finally brought out everyone's food, except they didn't only forget the chicken on my salad... they forgot the entire salad... Food is always great! I will give them that! read more

My mom and I were visiting this town for a last minute vacation. We went here on the first night in town and we got the burgers which is what they are known for. Let me say they were amazing! I got the cowboy candy burger and it had spicy and the best kind. I would also like to point out that I ordered an alcoholic drink and while we were sitting outside I got a bug in it and when mentioned to the worker they ended up taking it off the bill altogether and asked if I wanted something else instead. I ended up ordering a blue colored slushie ( can't remember the exact name ) it was amazing. My mom and I also loved their fries they were nice and crispy. We actually loved it so much we came back for lunch on our last day of the vacation and I got the boom boom shrimp tacos and my mom got a pepperoni pizza. I loved going for lunch because it wasn't as busy while still having an amazing view outside. My mom said it was the best pizza she's had and I was impressed with all their food. Visited Saugatuck for the day and stopped in to this local restaurant overlooking the marina. Perfect weather to enjoy a lunch on the outdoor patio. Ordered shrimp tacos which were recommended by the waitress but was not impressed. The shrimp were small and offered very little taste. My wife ordered a burger which was very tasty. Overall decent place but steer clear of seafood as this is not there forte. read more
