Showed up during peak time and somehow snagged a spot at the bar with my suitcase (they don't allow luggage at the tables which makes sense). Quickly went from "Wow, this place is so cute" to "Wow, this place is AMAZING!" The service is incredibly efficient and friendly. You'll have several people helping you and checking in. One bartender made me an iced mocha which wasn't on the menu, and the pancakes may have been the best I've had in my entire life. 1000% worth the stop if you're anywhere near TN!
Came here with a party of 8 and we were able to be seated in a few minutes. This is also on a Tuesday morning. They have a simple kids menu and great options for breakfast and lunch! Ordered the corned-beef hash , caramel iced coffee, and twiced-baked almond croissant. Corned-beef hash- 6-10 eh. It was okay. The corned beef was a little over cooked. The potatoes had great texture but not very well seasoned. The eggs were okay as well. The dish comes with sunny side up however I asked for scrambled this could possibly change the plate. Caramel iced coffee- this was very good 10/10. This will be good for anyone who likes their coffee on the sweeter side. Twice-bake almond croissant- It has great jam spread, great texture, and taste! It's big enough to share. 12/10! We had a great server, Jessie! She was very kind, knowledgeable, and provided great recommendations for thr adults and kids. She was attentive and helpful. She gave us a wonderful experience!
I'll say this was my most favorite meal in Nashville and the best brunch I have had in a while. Let's get logistics first. The restaurant is super busy from 10 am to 2 pm. If dining during the peak hours, get on the Yelp waitlist for better time management, you may still end up waiting for sometime but you'll have a better experience. Second, there's a parking lot right next to the restaurant and they'll validate parking for you. Our server was amazing (think his name was Rukesh), the food was fresh, high-quality and very well presented. I loved the decor of the restaurant as well- a lot of plants and a lot of beautifully created pastries on display. I steered clear of the pastries even though they were super tempting. Too much sugar over the past few days so I wanted to focus on savory foods for brunch. Here's what we ordered: 1. Brown sugar beignets 2. Square Benny with avocado 3. Turkish eggs 4. Migas Scramble 5. Southern Peach Waffles 6. Snickerdoodle latte 7. Mango Lassi Matcha All our food items were amazing. I especially loved the Turkish eggs, the best version I have ever had.
After hearing and seeing all the hype for The Butter Milk Ranch, my group and I made it a point to try it on our Nashville trip. Dine in can get extremely busy, which of course it was on Fourth of July weekend. Thankfully, they offer a grab and go section where you can order from the coffee/beverage and pastry/sandwich menu, more like a typical to-go cafe experience . --THIS REVIEW IS ONLY FOR THE GRAB AND GO-- BMR Iced Breakfast latte: maple latte with a berry jam cold foam. The name perfectly describes the experience, I loved the smoky maple notes and savoriness in the berry jam cold foam that made it perfectly balanced, reminiscent of a full breakfast, and extremely tasty. They only offered to go cups with standard straw lids rather than the sipping lids you typically see with cold foam lattes, so I essentially had to mix the entire drink together to enjoy it. A small change, but I think using sipper lids for the cold foam could make the drinking experience that much more elevated, and allow you to experience both flavors more distinctly. Mango lassi matcha: perfect lassi texture and fresh mango taste, matcha could be stronger but that's just my personal preference. Both drinks were delicious!! Would definitely return for their coffee. Thai chicken salad croissant sandwich: The chicken salad was so good, I loved the chopped Thai basil throughout which complemented so nicely. However, the croissant was kind of a textural nightmare. Rather than being flaky and light, the layers of croissant were dense and extremely thick, almost as if they didn't laminate the dough enough? I was just not expecting this as they look so beautiful and crunchy, but instead it was hard to chew and very greasy. I also had a honey butter croissant, and sadly that had the same texture issue. Unsure if this is how their croissants always taste or if it was simply a fluke, but I was honestly highly disappointed by the pastry itself. Pretty upsetting since they are so beautiful to look at. Service was extremely warm and welcoming, I really felt the southern hospitality even in my short interaction. It seems like their full dine-in brunch menu is most popular, and since the Thai chicken salad itself was so delicious, I would love to come back and brunch one day! At least, you can explore the area around while you're waiting, which is full of cute boutique stores and quite walkable.
We put our name on the waitlist 90 minutes before so by the time we arrived we didn't have a huge wait. It was packed by 11:00 am and almost all of the pastries were sold out, which was disappointing but understandable as it is super busy. We ordered the Cubed Benedict, croissant breakfast sandwich and side of the loaded Rancher potatoes. We were brought the potatoes as an appetizer which was annoying since we had specified we wanted it with our meal. We wished they were crispier since a lot of them were still really hard in the middle. The traditional Benedict was very filling, there's a lot of bread! Ham was very flavorful. The hollandaise is very fresh and has a nice lemon flavor. Breakfast sandwich was huge.

From all of the pastries, to even curing all of their meats, you truly can tell the difference. Also, I love that all of their ingredients are sourced locally. They have sit down dining and fast casual dining, both having different menus. We did the sit down dining and shared the corned beef hash, croissant sandwich with sausage, grilled salmon, and an almond croissant. Everything tasted awesome, a very elevated lunch experience for sure.
Make sure to get on the waitlist well before your intended eating time if you go on the weekend! We Loved the bright and airy space. Servers were hustling and super on the ball. We loved the square benedict with corn gravy and the ranch potatoes. So so unique and especially good with their local garlic hot sauce. The only complaint was that the sausage ball appetizers were cold in the middle/incompletely reheated and not super appetizing. But would definitely come back for the benedicts.
We visited this place on a Saturday morning at 8:45am and got hit with a 90-minute wait. We almost bailed... but grabbed coffee down the street and waited it out. Best decision of the trip! This was hands-down the best breakfast I've ever had (and I don't say that lightly). It was so good we came back Sunday morning RIGHT at opening so we didn't have to wait, (plus we had a flight to catch) A big reason this place hits different is because they're a small-batch bakery and you can tell immediately! Everything tastes like it was baked with intention, not reheated with hope and a prayer. They also work with the butcher across the street, and the meat is cut/cured/smoked/aged in-house. It's the kind of detail you don't fully appreciate until you take a bite and go, "okay now I get it." Do yourself a favor and get at least one pastry. Their croissants taste like they were hand-crafted in France... light, buttery, flaky, and ridiculous. The kind of croissant that makes you pause mid bite because you're suddenly having a moment. First experience on Saturday, we ordered the BMR Breakfast Croissant and the 12 South Scramble. That croissant sandwich is massive... it honestly felt like it could've been two sandwiches. And the onion bacon jam on it was downright perfect. Sweet/savory, rich, and somehow every bite got better. The 12 South Scramble was also big enough to share, super fresh, cooked perfectly, with light/fluffy eggs you only get when people actually know what they're doing. The potatoes seriously deserve their own fan club, crispy outside like they were deep fried (they weren't), soft inside, and seasoned so well that you keep eating them even when you're "full." We also started with the Southern Sausage Balls and house pepper jelly. They were cooked perfectly and tasty, just not my personal favorite (I'm from AZ, so this is not my native language), but I totally get why people love them. The next day for round 2 yes, we got the BMR Breakfast Croissant again. That's how you know it's serious. I ate half, saved the rest, and ate it later cold before our flight... and it was still fantastic, which is not something you can say about most breakfast sandwiches. This time we swapped potatoes for the side salad, and I was not prepared for how good it would be. The lemon poppyseed dressing was unlike anything I've tasted vright, slightly sweet, super refreshing, and honestly made the whole meal feel even better. We also ordered The Cube Benny Collection with sauce on the side (I like my eggs hard-poached), and don't let the presentation fool you, this plate will fill a grown man. The corn gravy that comes with it is FIRE. Like "why am I not putting this on everything I eat" fire. And because we apparently have no limits, we finished with Taste of the Case. We almost didn't get it because we "didn't need all the sugar," which is a funny lie to tell yourself in a bakery. The pistachio croissant, chocolate chip cookie, and orange creamsicle muffin made us VERY glad we ignored our better judgment. It also comes with two house-made biscuits, layered, tender little things, plus three seasonal jams l. We got habanero, a version of apple butter, and strawberry, and all of them were excellent. The snickerdoodle latte was good, but not the star in a place where the food is doing Olympic-level work. Service across both visits was top notch... friendly servers, a great hostess, highly trained cooks, and world-class bakers. You can tell they run a tight ship. The space itself is no-frills in the best way... airy, country cottage feel, warm and welcoming nd it's all reasonably priced for the quality you're getting. If you go on a weekend, just accept the wait or show up at opening. Either way... it's worth it. There's also patio seating!
Really popular brunch place in the heart of 12 South. On busy days I've read that the wait can be hours, but we went on a Wednesday and joined the online waitlist! We only had to wait about 15 minutes once we arrived! I think one of the reasons this place is so popular is because of their pastries! They are in a cute case at the front and you can get them to go. Unfortunately we didn't get any, which lead me to be a bit underwhelmed with the experience. The food was solid, but I don't think it was worth an hours long wait that people often do. We got the Turkish eggs, and we also got the 12 South scramble. The Turkish eggs were well-made, with fried dough at the bottom and a yogurt sauce on top. The flavors were a bit strong without anything to cut it like acid or sweetness. I asked for ketchup on the side and this provided a nice balance! The scramble was solid with generous portions of ham! I would come back for pastries but not the main food!
This place is worth the hype! Due to its popularity, they do not provide reservations, however, you can join the waitlist online. Be prepared to wait 2+ hours on the weekend. BMR is located in 12 South, which is a great neighborhood full of coffee shops, nice stores, and gorgeous historic homes. While you wait, it's a great spot to walk around and shop on a nice day. We each ordered the banana bread old fashion, which was delicious but extremely sweet so just an FYI there if that's not your vibe. We started with a taste of the case - you can choose 3 pastries along with two biscuits. We tried the pistachio, the crannoli, and the chocolate hazelnut. The show was the crannoli and the biscuits - wow! For the entree, we shared the 12 South scramble and the Turkish Breakfast. The scramble was enormous with a TON of protein. We both LOVED the Turkish breakfast. It was extremely unique and tasty, it is definitely something we will order again. The restaurant itself is bustling and a well-oiled machine. Service was top tier and quick. Prices were reasonable given the quality and size of portions. Highly recommend!

Get here early!!! We got here as soon as they opened up and it was already almost full- they have an amazing pastry case and their breakfast is to die for. The cube Benny was a little dense, I thought it would be a little more light and airy but the corn hollandaise was so flavorful! The side of ham and potatoes was enough for two people! read more

Made it a point to check out this über popular breakfast spot in 12 South. At 8:30 am on a Friday, we were told it was a 20-25 min wait (ended up being 10) but by the time we were seated it was 45 min. Place was packed. It's a scratch baked bakery with most other ingredients sourced locally. Hubs had the sausage Bennie on a square croissant "biscuit" and I had a chive Gruyère French omelette. Everything was delish. Side of Ranch potatoes were yummy but a little dry. Service was excellent. read more

My mom and I came here on a weekend trip to Nashville a couple years ago and had such a pleasant experience that we knew we had to bring the whole family when we all made it to Nashville together. 2 years later we finally got to make good on that promise and the experience was just as good as we remembered, if not better this time around. Amazing food, great atmosphere. Sunday morning brunch was chaotic but the staff handled it exceptionally well. We did have to join the waitlist online 2 hours prior but it was WORTH IT. For as busy as it was, we were very surprised by how quickly our food arrived. Our server Cara was PHENOMENAL and the whole family was impressed by her. read more
The food at Butter Milk ranch was all I hoped for in a Nashville eatery. Located in the gulch area so plenty of things to walk and see while you wait. The reviews and influencers did not disappoint. I was worried about not getting in due to the wait so we arrived on a Thursday around 10:00am and were seated around 10:45am. Not too bad. The food was worth the wait! 9/10: Brown butter beignets (the only improvement was the lemon sauce they were served in. I think a sweet-salted browned butter sauce would have been better. 9/10: Southern Sausage Balls (this was pork and I try not to eat pork but it was the only option) 10/10 BMR Breakfast croissant. NOTE: the sides - the Ranch Potatoes were a 20/10!!! So flavorful and good!! 10/10 Shrimp & Grits The parking is a small connected lot that you self-pay if more than 2 hrs. Bathrooms are limited; there were only 2 which was kind of small for the crowd. read more
I ordered the C'reuben, which is supposedly named the best sandwich in Nashville, and honestly, it lived up to the hype. It was easily one of the best sandwiches I've had in the city. The employee who took our order was friendly, and even though we ordered to-go, the food came out pretty quickly. My friend tried the sausage balls and highly recommended them as well. Pro tip: you can order from the to-go window and eat in their outdoor seating area. When we went, the wait was around two hours, and they eventually stopped taking reservations altogether. But from what I could tell it was very clean and modern inside! read more

I usually write about the environment and food first but I have to mention the bathroom set up first. This is a very busy establishment. They were no longer accepting walk-ins and this was around 1:30pm. There are TWO unisex restrooms and they're located right across from the kitchen. I would like to HIGHLY suggest that you all post the sign for the restroom on the wall where the restroom signs are located and move it away from the exit sign. While looking online for breakfast spots in Nashville, I found this place. It is amazing! There is a parking lot next door and they have you scan a QR code to validate your parking at the entrance. Our waitress was great, she explained the items on the menu to us because it was our first time visiting. We ordered "A taste of the case" as our starter (who knew this was a thing for breakfast?!) and we were blown away. We had a salted honey butter croissant, pain au chocolat, and chocolate chunk cookie. Their croissants and biscuits were so buttery and flaky--yum! And the cookie had just the right amount of chocolate and sweetness. We also had their fresh orange juice, which you just cannot turn down. One of us had their pancakes and bacon, which were enjoyed. Another of us and I had the BMR breakfast croissant with sausage. The sandwich was amazing and huge--we both cut them in half and enjoyed the other half later. Side of potatoes were really good, as was the side of fruit enjoyed by one of my companions. Another of us had the scrambler with ham which they loved. All of us left with a box, their portions are hefty (not a complaint at all, I was glad to enjoy it a second time). Our waitress was very attentive and friendly. The restaurant is clean, bright, and cheery, not loud despite being packed. If you are anywhere in Nashville, make a trip here as it is totally worth it. read more
First and foremost the wait will be long - get online and add yourself to the waitlist (2-3 hours was the average wait). that said the food was amazing. Buttermilk Ranch has been a personal favorite of mine since it opened, and after trying almost everything on the menu I'll admit I'm a little biased. The restaurant offers several menus depending on where you're seated -- from the bakery to the dining counter to full table service -- and they're all strong. For this visit, I'm focusing on the main dining menu. The brown butter beignets are easily the best starter and a must-order. I'd even argue they rival (and in some cases beat) some of the beignets I had on my last trip to New Orleans. They always come out hot and fresh, and the lemon curd really ties the dish together. The pastries in the bakery case are also very good, though I sometimes wish they could be lightly toasted when served to bring out even more flavor. One of my companions ordered the Gruyère & chives French omelette, which they enjoyed, though they wished the ingredients were incorporated a bit more throughout the dish rather than appearing more open-faced. On a previous visit they tried the sausage benedict, which didn't stand out as much as the traditional ham benedict I ordered this time. The croissant-style cubes used in the dish really elevate it and give it a unique texture. Another dish I've enjoyed in the past is the Dirty South fried rice, which is a creative breakfast take on a fried rice bowl. It can run a bit oily though, so it may not be ideal for those sensitive to richer dishes. The biggest drawback is the layout and logistics of the space. Seating can feel cramped, and the restroom line often stretches around the corner. When combined with the line at the entrance, the restaurant can start to feel a bit claustrophobic during busy hours. If you're visiting from out of town, it's helpful to know you can join the waitlist on Buttermilk Ranch's website ahead of time, which makes the experience much smoother -- especially for larger groups. Despite the crowds and tight space, Buttermilk Ranch remains one of Nashville's standout brunch spots and a place I still find myself returning to. read more
Officially my favorite breakfast place in Nashville. First time to visit and it started off with amazing service. Karah, our server, was a foodie like us so she convinced us to order all the favorites. We started with the Taste of the Case...you choose three of the pastries and get two biscuits and fresh preserves with it. We selected the original croissant, the salted honey croissant, and the strawberry chocolate croissant. My husband is a biscuit snob and he said he thought the fluffy, layered biscuits were the best in Nashville. The preserves are made fresh in house as well. Speaking of fresh, the juices are all fresh and the beverage menu is extensive. They also fresh grind their coffee so it's great to drink it black. Sausage balls are our favorite Christmas treat and they have added them to the menu...I thought mine were the best but the Butter Milk Ranch took it to the next level. The pepper jelly they serve to dip them in is incredible. Still on the starters...oh my the beignets....I mean lemon curd on the bottom to dip and so light and fluffy!! Let's just say we left with an entire bag of goodies for tomorrow. Now to the main courses...I was too full so I can't really talk about the Migas scramble but it was tasty. As for the Waygu steak and eggs, it was amazing. Steak perfectly cooked and the chimichurri sauce was the perfect addition. The inside makes you feel like you are in a mountain location with the wood and stone. It's a little loud but it's because everyone is so happy with what they are eating!! We came to Buttermilk Ranch for brunch to celebrate my husband's birthday, and it was a wonderful experience! The food was absolutely delicious, fresh, and beautifully presented. Everything we ordered was full of flavor, and you could tell it was made with quality ingredients. The drinks were just as good and made the brunch feel even more special. The atmosphere was cozy and inviting, making it the perfect place to celebrate. We had a great time and will definitely be back for another brunch soon! read more
Continuing our culinary tour, we had breakfast at The Butter Milk Ranch....we arrived at just about 8:00AM, opening time, and people were already inside....(by 8:30 the place was 1/2 full) we started with the Beignets (OMG, pillows from heaven), then onto a corned beef hash skillet (I couldn't finish) other members in my party had the 12th street skillet and breakfast platter, with a side of biscuits and gravy. (The bacon and sausage is made in-house, by the way, and the corned beef hash is hand cut...NOT from a can!!) this place is heaven on a platter....I want to live here...I'll take the basement next to the furnace if that's the only place that's available read more
This place was pretty incredible. My son got us on the waiting list so when we arrived we were seated in 5 minutes, whereas people coming in had a 2 hour wait. The beignets with lemon curd were outstanding. I liked the cube benny with sausage and gravy but think I would have preferred the traditional benny they offer. The star of the morning was the Turkish eggs as it's something I would have never thought of ordering. So many different flavors in it including the garlic yogurt that tasted like an elevated sour cream. Staff were super nice. No wonder why people wait hours for this place. read more

We saw that this place came up at #1 on Yelp for Nashville, so naturally, we had to check it out. I highly recommend joining their waitlist on Yelp because it becomes hours long. On the days we were in Nashville I would check and it would be like 2 to 3 hours. I suggest joining early in the morning as it piles up quickly. We got a chance to join the waitlist on the last day we were in Nashville since we got on early. I wouldn't say this is like the most amazing breakfast in the world, but I can certainly see the hype. Apparently they're known for their croissants. We got the Migas Scramble and 12th South Scramble (and a croissant, of course). Croissant was great, but again not the best in the world lol. To be honest, I wouldn't wait more than an hour for this place. At least the waitlist makes it so you can join before going there. Some pros: waitlist actually moves quick, food comes out in a timely manner, portions are big and food is hearty/filling, they don't run out of options fast, they have a lot of options for drinks (and alcohol!) Some cons: they are so busy that sometimes your service could be slow, there is single stall bathroom so the line is always stupid long (it's a huge restaurant), parking in the area is tough (we ubered but just FYI) read more

I had family visiting from out of town, so it was the perfect excuse to finally try Buttermilk Ranch after always hearing how busy (and good) it is. And yes, rumors are true, this place is always packed. Pro tip: they have a Yelp waitlist, which makes things way easier. That said, be prepared to wait. I joined the waitlist on a Tuesday around 11am and we were seated close to 1pm We were a party of six, which definitely didn't help, but honestly it was fine. We enjoyed a stroll around 12 South while waiting. Just be patient and make a little morning out of it. Once seated, we were greeted by the sweetest server, so kind, friendly, and full of great recommendations (sadly didn't catch her name). Service was wonderful. I ordered the steak and biscuit with a side of cheesy grits, so good. Everyone else's food looked amazing as well. My parents shared a turkey sandwich, fried chicken biscuit and a salad, and the rest of the table was very happy with their choices too. Coffee was really good, and my brother ordered a gingerbread latte that he absolutely loved. They also offer mimosas and Bloody Marys, which is always a plus. This isn't your everyday breakfast spot, but it's definitely one I'd recommend, especially when showing Nashville to out-of-town guests. read more

It's touristy, but for a reason. A lot of places can't nail both flavor AND presentation but Buttermilk always hits both every time. If you don't have time to dine in, the least you can do is stop at the bakery counter for something to go. Their baked items are genuinely so worth it. For entrees, my personal favorite is the Waygu steak avocado toast. It's well priced, savory, but not too heavy. This last visit I decided to try something new and I landed on the Pork belly fried rice. While it was good, the pork belly was so fatty that it was hard to eat. The fried rice was delicious but the flavor of the pork belly slipped through to the rice. I think I might just not have the stomach for it. But pivoting back to the waygu for future visits! They do NOT take reservations, so plan accordingly. You can however (sometimes) join the waitlist online so I highly recommend checking that. read more

I was looking for a great place for brunch and found this place. When I arrived there wasn't a wait which I learned is highly unusual. The dining room was packed and I was seated at a small table in the middle of the restaurant. The tables are very close together so you do feel like you are community dining and people at the next table often looked over and commented on what each other ordered. So you definitely want to be in the mood to socialize if you choose to dine here. The service was fairly attentive but almost too attentive in that you feel a bit rushed to finish so they could seat the next table. The menu was large with options for everyone. I did order a Bloody Mary and asked for it to not be hot/spicy. I can tolerate spice but when this came to the table it was not drinkable. I didn't drink it and the waiter never inquired about why not. The food was the star of the show and it was beautifully presented and equally as tasty and satisfying. There is a to go bakery in the front of the restaurant with pastries and coffee. I didn't order anything but certainly would next time I visit. I would definitely visit again. read more

I wanted to write this while it's still fresh! We went for brunch this afternoon and waitlist was pretty long. I arrived around 10:30am and was told it would be 2.5 hour wait so I put my number down since I'm meeting with friend anyway. The location is great, right in 12 south. It's definitely a touristy area but I love that there are cute boutiques and shops to explore while waiting. They texted me around 12pm that my table is ready and I was excited to finally try this place. The restaurant itself is lovely with lots of plants and a cozy vibe. We were seated right away. I ordered the steak and biscuit with fries on the side. The steak was cooked medium rare filet mignon with beef tallow, shaved parmesan, arugula and chimichurri. It was delicious! The biscuit isn't the typical one you'd expect. It looks more like a croissant but has its own unique texture. The flavors together were amazing. The fries were different too! Well seasoned and slightly garlicky. I highly recommend! read more

How is parking or where do you park around here?
Street parking is ideal if available, but is pretty rare to find on the weekends. They do have a lot right next to BMR, but it is closed on Sunday since there is a church next door. There are also paid lots within walking distance
Do they take reservations?
No they don't. But if you tine your arrival, say for lunch at 11:00, you have way better chance of getting in with minimal wait.
When did they open for business?
Not too long ago. I believe our server said they have been open 4 months. They are still refining the menu based on customer feedback.
