There weren't many options since most of the restaurants in the area were closed or were closing soon so we went to the hotels restaurant and we weren't disappointed. The Alaskan halibut was perfectly seared, the ribeye was juicy and flavorful and the swordfish with caper sauce delicious. It was my hubby's bday weekend and since we didnt get a dinner reservation the night before anywhere around Home ( San Jose) , we decide to do just drive down to Monterey the next day , we made a brunch reservation at The C restaurant and we were running late and they were very accommodating. Our server was great and the brunch was awesome, ofcourse the view was fantastic, they have seating outside too . We had a great time enjoying the brunch and the view . We cam to The C-Bar to have our first drink at Cannery Row. Service was spot on and they offered us a seat at the bar as soon as one opened up. My wife ordered the flight of Champagne and she really enjoyed the variety. The only reason I am not giving 5 Stars is because the drinks are a bit pricey. Happy hour deals are amazing, but make sure you sit at the bar! The happy hour deals are NOT available if you get seated in the restaurant!!! I had the scallops and my friend had the tuna. Both amazing. They also serve locally sourced calamari and serve it with battered and fried lemons (fun twist) and a really good creamy sauce. Something closer to a chipotle than a remoulade. It was my friend's birthday, so we splurged on champagne flights. I've never loved every item in a flight before (wine or beer), but this selection was amazing. They brought out a dessert free of charge at the end that was out of this world. Banana ice cream was to die for. I don't even like ripe bananas. Staff was amazing. Only con was that I'm not very sophisticated, so I kept trying to order things from the wrong waiter. We literally had five people servicing the table. But that's on me, I guess. Went for the first time for dinner. So much better than most of the mediocre options nearby. Had an indoor table with a beautiful view of the bay. Live music (guitar). Hostess was very nice, food was terrific. We had the ceviche and clam chowder to start (both were delicious). For entrees, we ordered the salmon (special of the night) and their corn ravioli. Both were WOW delicious. Our server was a tad slow (think he was just very busy) but the rest of the team was very attentive with bread and water. Their bread is also very good. Huge shout out to Euclides for making our trip extra special! For years my husband has been frustrated that the crab huevos rancheros was taken off the menu as it was his absolute favorite dish in the world. We chatted with Euclides about it, he talked with the chef, and he let us know that if we were to come back the following day, the kitchen could prepare it for us. Awful food, I'd be shocked if there's an chef cooking back there. I'm no cook, but geez, I could do better than the stuff they're trying to peddle to guests. We ordered their Castroville omelet--artichoke, shrimp, asparagus, cheddar cheese, spinach with roasted potatoes and English muffin. Doesn't seem like it do be that hard, right? I should've taken a photo to show you the stuff that disappointments are made of. The omelet arrived completely dark browned on top, and if I had dared to look underneath the thing, wouldn't go have been surprised if it had the same color. The texture was hardened, as of course it is when an egg has been completely overcooked. The flavor was off-putting, though the ingredients themselves were fresh, which is how I ate it: picked out the vegetable and ate some of the potatoes, which I also works not go out of my way to write home about. We chose this restaurant for its location on the water and extensive seating with water views, to celebrate my husband's birthday. It was perfect! What we found out is that the bartender knows how to make the perfect Vesper Martini, the acoustic guitarist that played during happy hour and dinner was skilled and with a light touch, and that our service staff was so well coordinated, that we had what we needed before we knew we needed it. Salvador was our waiter, and his knowledge of the menu and wine list helped us to choose wisely for delicious food that emphasizes local and sustainable ingredients. The complimentary valet parking was a huge benefit on a busy street on a Friday evening, and made arrival and departure a breeze. You might not expect such a completely wonderful experience from a hotel restaurant, but it awaits you if you are willing to try it. read more

I had a martini outside on the patio and realized on Yelp if you check in you get an order of free calamari. The waitress was attentive and gave us the nightly specials. Nothing on the menu seemed intriguing. The calamari was okay you can't really complain for it when it's free. It is located in the Intercontinental Hotel and I stayed the weekend. I was excited to try out the breakfast the following morning. When we arrived the next morning the service was terrible! It took so long to even get water! I ordered the build your own Bloody Mary. Amazing. Really, one of the best meals I've ever had-and that says a LOT. We ate here three different times throughout our stay- twice for dinner and once for the half priced happy hour. It was so good that I'd even consider making the 2 hour drive down to Monterey from San Francisco just to have dinner here. Most of the menu uses local, sustainable and organic produce and meats which is already a huge plus in my book. But, on top of that, the menu is sophisticated and delicious yet substantial, and the drinks are fabulous as well. They use all fresh ingredients in their drink menu, and each one was better and better. My favorite was the Cannery Rowhito- made with freshly grated ginger, super fresh mint, agave syrup and fresh pineapple. Delicious! The Niman Ranch angus steak with Romano beans and a cabernet peppercorn sauce was cooked perfectly and had wonderful flavor. The scallops were also to die for- some sort of truffle potatoe puree and porcini mushrooms- spectacular. The local Red Abalone appetizer with truffle pasta was also a hit, and the lamb chop with creamy polenta was equally delicious. Really, everything on the menu looked amazing - and I can't wait to go back and try it all. Oh, and ALSO- they had the BEST bread! Crusty, rosemary ciabatta with goat cheese butter. Soooo good. What made the experience even better was the great, friendly service. At C, you get the food of a five star restaurant without the attitude. Everyone was polite, down to earth, professional and extremely friendly and congenial. Definitely a must for any environmentally responsible food lover in the Monterey area. read more

We came to C Restaurant + Bar for after-dinner drinks. We sat outside by the bay and warmed up by the heaters. It's a really low-key yet classy environment. We decided to try a champagne flight and ordered the "Flight of the Rich & Famous" which consisted of four 2 oz. samplers of different kinds of champagne from Veuve Cliquot, Laurent Perrier, Taittinger, and Piper-Heidseick. They were all delicious but my favorite was the Veuve Cliquot. Service was great! Our server was really sweet and she gave great recommendations of which champagne flight to get. I really enjoyed the Chilean sea bass. It was tender and a nice sized portion. The server, Salvador, was attentive and super friendly. MADE TO ORDER clam chowder, people. This clam chowder puts me in my place. Homemade KETCHUP!? WHA?!! Yes, homemade, delicious ketchup. I don't think I have ever had homemade ketchup before yesterday. I know now what the hell ketchup is supposed to taste like, contrary to what Heinz says. The french fries were perfectly fried - crispy with a little bit of garlic on the outside, hot and tasty inside. The sweet potato and arugula salad with grapes and caramelized walnuts was perfect for a starter - or to accompany the clam chowder that you have to order. It isn't thick, but it's delish. My sweet Chelsea-by-the-sea took me here for lunch yesterday. Ideal day trip: Go to Monterey, stay at the Intercontinental, eat at C, go to the aquarium (next door to the Intercontinental which is where C is), and just walk and explore Carmel, Monterey and Pebble Beach for a day or two. read more

While staying at the Intercontinental, my boyfriend and I hit the C for breakfast one morning around 10. We were seated immediately since there were only two or three other tables dining at the time. 10 minutes later our server appeared with menus and a HUGE stain on the front of his uniform. My boyfriend said it looked like someone had cracked an egg on his chest. After taking our order for coffee, this server disappeared for another 10 minutes, before another server appeared to take our orders. She was nice, cracked a couple of jokes (which I prefer to eggs, generally speaking). We both ordered pancakes. 10 minutes later, our coffee arrived. 5 minutes after that, we saw two lovely plates of pancakes appear from the kitchen. Unfortunately, these golden, fluffy pancakes remained on the shelf outside the kitchen, in plain view of the entire dining room, for another 10 minutes before they made it to our table. While we watched our breakfast cool across he room, we also watched three or four servers and bussers hang out, shooting the shizz, not clearing the three dirty tables that had been empty since before we sat down. The food was tasty albeit expensive, the coffee delicious but no more so than the coffee we brewed for free in the hotel room coffeemaker. My boyfriend and I both work in branches of the service industry, and so admittedly we both have high standards for good service, but I've gotten friendlier, more professional, more efficient service at an airport Quiznos than I did at the C. If integrity is what you do when nobody is watching, then restaurant integrity must be how you act when the breakfast rush is over and the dining room is not empty but nearly so. Have a clean uniform. Have some hustle. It's not rocket science. read more

We came yesterday for Mother's Day Brunch. It was the most anticipated time that I've been waiting for weeks. We stayed at Intercontinental as well to make it easier for us just to come down, in fact we were half an hour early. The ambience was good, the food selection was great. Tried the sweet ham, tenderloin, mushroom soup, omelette station, everything was perfect. Then we tried the seafood station. Tried the shrimp, oyster. Oh my God. The shrimp was foul, the color of the shrimp itself was even not fresh anymore, yes you could tell by sight and smell. Husband ate once, and he had to vomit it. The oysters were slimy. I ate about 4-5 shrimp, and few oysters. Learned my lesson very fast though, about 30 minutes after I had (apologize for TMI) runny diarrhea, and boy it didn't stop at the hotel. We checked out after that, and later that night, I still had cramps, and diarrhea at home. Took TUMS, and good thing they worked fast. The only thing that bothers me was the look from the waitress after we told her about their bad quality of seafood. She looked at us as if we made up the whole scenario as if we needed for discount. The manager did give us 25% discount, but that's not what we wanted. Nobody wants food poisoning just for the sake of getting thirty bucks discount. At least not us. I'm a mother with a toddler, and a baby that I still breastfeed, there's no way I want all this predicament just for the sake of discount. The night before, we even spent more money at The Sardine Factory, we didn't mind since the food and service was mind blowing. We still left good tip for them though, because they were polite, they gave what we asked for, and the made great drinks. So, reading Noelle's review below me was no joke. I should have trusted her review before I made my decision going to C restaurant. All the cooked food was great, only the seafood that was unsatisfactory. However, my review here is honest, and I want to remind everybody who's planning to eat here to be careful what you're gonna order. Or else, you will end up with food poisoning. read more

My wife and I were guests of the hotel and had been enjoying a nice after-dinner glass of red wine from the hotel bar for a few consecutive evenings. We decided to go down for happy hour one day to sample some more wines and grab a quick bite to eat. We were told we could sit anywhere in the bar or the restaurant. We proceeded to order Oysters, Calamari, and Grilled Artichoke as well as two glasses of our favorite red wine and took our place at a table with an ocean view. A minute after we sat down, a porter told us this was for restaurant guests only and we'd have to move. After moving to the only other table that was both inside and in the bar area we received our wines. First off, they were smaller than in previous nights (these are not on the Happy Hour menu so we were paying full price). Secondly, the pours were uneven with one glass containing about half a deciliter more than the other. The food arrives and the fun part begins. The grilled artichoke was arguably the worst thing I have been served in a restaurant in my life. It was physically unedible. It was as tough as a pine cone. It was practically rawhide for canines. This was low grade dog food! The waitress said she hears this complaint a lot and thankfully did not charge us for it. *Remove this item from the menu, you are embarrassing yourselves!!!* Oysters were decent (haven't gotten sick yet so I guess they were fresh) and the tempura fried calamari was enjoyable however the table of two next to us got a portion easily twice as large as hours. This place really sucked. The hotel is nice, but we won't be eating here again...not even for the hotel breakfast. Truly a disastrous place. Got served the wrong meal twice before we finally got the right order. 5. Bread got served after we'd already started eating. Oh we get bread?! Kind of too late there. 6. Asked for coffee to go. Got served plain black coffee in a mug without a spoon to stir the nonexistent sugar or cream. Sat around for a while before we just had to call it quits. If you got to ask for service, wait around for service, you're not getting service. Take note again, this place wasn't even busy. Can't imagine how it is when it is busy. Worst dinner we had, but I wanted room service for breakfast. I ordered anyway thinking maybe breakfast would be good. My juevos was soggy, potatoes were not well done and lacked flavor. Yuck. Ordered a bagel and requested it toasted. It was as if they took it out of the Safeway bag and dropped it on my plate. Cheap, white bread bagel NOT toasted. Nasty. The best part of all was that I wanted to use some hot sauce and the bottle of Tabasco they delivered was open and empty. Seriously???
