Yummy in my gluten free tummy. My husband and I stopped in after we had a late lunch at Little Pub. The bakery was small, but cute. They had a variety of gluten free and item free/ vegan treats. I tried a gfree/vegan chocolate cake and it was delicious. The cake was super moist and light. I would have never been able to tell it was gfree/vegan. We ordered a brownie, a ginger snap, and a choc mint cupcake. They were all so delicious. The brownie was crispy on the outside and gooey on the inside. The ginger snap was bliss. Again, crispy on the outside and gooey on the inside. And, the best part, I couldn't tell they were gluten free. Generally, the good gfree stuff has extra butter or is dense or gritty. This stuff was all light and moist. The bakery sold bread, pizza dough, lots of cookies and cupcakes, and monkey buns. I want to go back and try the monkey buns. read more

Damn! When even the gluten free cupcakes taste utterly terrific, you know you got a baker paying attention. Imagine a rich chocolate cupcake (think dark Belgian chocolate in cake form) with not only a dark chocolate icing on it but also a ganache like chocolate layer under the icing. Now imagine that gluten free. We got that cupcake both ways- gluten and no gluten. Damn!!!! Just as good either way!!! And the price is right. Not cheap but not a 'well it's gluten free so I have to charge you way way more' (there cannot be any cost reason to justify what the commercial baking companies are getting for their garbage tasting gluten free products when a local baker can make delicious gluten free cupcakes at a reasonable price). read more

I've been going to Swoon for the past year and have only wonderful things to say about the quality of their baked goods. Sometimes they run out of popular items by the end of the day, and supplies are limited, so if you need several of an item (like dinner rolls) or want to be sure they have it, it's definitely a good idea to order ahead! They put together several care packages for my mom to send me at school, which were a wonderful treat that my non-GF friends also enjoyed. Disappointed. The Cake Box has lovely product, however each step of my custom cake order was done with poor professionalism. Called to arrange an appointment, the owner was not made aware of the appointment, and I waited 20 minutes...Then on day of pick up cashier told me that I only had 5 doz. mini cupcakes and one custom cake. My receipt however showed I had also purchased one dozen regular cupcakes. Called back when I had the receipt and was told I was correct...then was told they would credit my card without having to come in. It has been five days, no credit. Turns out I need to go in to the store to receive this credit...but no one had called to tell me this, it took a call on my end to learn this. I love small business and supporting them, however this is just poor. Also, they don't bake on premise in Westport and cupcakes there are often stale. read more

I ordered a cake for Sunday pick up and when I called first thing Saturday morning to add a name to the cake I was told the cake was already made and the bakers were gone. I served the cake on Sunday and the cake was very dense and dry, we had cake left over but by Monday it was not even edible it was so stale. Very disappointed. read more

I live in Somers and Swoon is the only bakery that I will go to. Not only is everything gluten and nut free but its all natural. I have many food intolerances and therefore can not usually buy bakery goods. I have to make everything myself from scratch. Swoon is the only bakery where I can eat anything there and not become ill. I must also add that everything is absolutely delicious. Their cupcakes and chocolate chip cookies are to die for and I even love their vegan versions. If I didn't have food sensitivities, I would still go to Swoons. They are the best bakery around. My husband went to a local bakery in our area to pick up a few things for himself and ended up throwing everything out. I'm gluten-free and dairy-free so when I found this bakery on Yelp, I was SO excited and drove immediately to try it out. I tried the banana cupcake with vanilla icing and mini chocolate sandwich cookie. I'm an avid home baker who bakes gluten-free and vegan goods regularly, so I was disappointed when I bit into both pastries and the icing AND the cake had the hard consistency as if it had sat out on a counter uncovered for 5 days. Just not acceptable to sell IMO. I don't care what day of the week it is, your goods should be fresh. Period. I may give this place another shot, but I don't have high expectations. The flavor of the cupcake was great, the chocolate cookie on the other hand was very bitter. They need to find a better cocoa or temper the bitterness. I bake almost exclusively with raw cacao powder and don't have that bitter taste. Stopped in after grabbing a few things at a shop nearby. GREAT chocolate chip cookies plus delicious samples available for tasting. I ended up grabbing 4 mini cupcakes to bring home for later. Flavors were interesting including sweet and salty, mochaccino and a few different types of chocolate (black and white, best birthday cake.) While I am not strictly GF, these cupcakes/cookies would be delicious to anyone whether or not they had a gluten sensitivity. This is a great place. The customer service can confuse you a bit. Hope this clears things up a bit. Swoon is a dedicated allergy free bakery. We are lucky to have it in town. However, they do more than what you see stored in the front case. Everything is baked there, but sent either to Cake box, Ridgefield or Westport for pickup. I have recently ordered a custom cake and Robert was very helpful. I've found calling cake box in Ridgefield for GF/vegan cupcake, cake, pizza dough or bun orders is easiest. Once ordered just clarify which pickup location. read more

Wow oh wow!! the answer to my prayers!! I'm wheat and dairy intolerant, I suffer daily and miss so many of the treats I used to eat like cookies and cake!, and then I discovered Swoon, from the owners of The Cake Box. It is Gluten free, wheat free (and no nuts either!!) perfect!! The cupcakes are delicious, the pumpkin tea loaf with orange glaze is amazing and the choc chip cookies are to die for!! I also love the crackers!. They do large cakes to order, I recommend the sweet and salty!, they can do large tea loaves too in pumpkin or banana and are very accommodating in helping with orders for schools (adding sprinkles to the brownies for a class party was a nice touch!). The shop is very pretty, with tables for sitting at and coffee is available, the staff are very polite and helpful and I love buying stuff here (and I don't react to anything so I'm really happy!!). I am not connected to this business but I do live in Ridgefield and am a regular customer. Reading the negative reviews on Yelp made steam come out of my ears. I have been a professional restaurant critic for 40 years (Gourmet, Saveur, www.roadfood.com, forty plus books) and have eaten around the world. The only explanation for the negative comments are that they are either written by competitors or by people who should have bought their cakes at Costco or Carvel. "Hot pink and purple, hearts, stars and peace signs for 8 year olds" is not what this brilliant bakery does (thank God). The ingredients used here are as perfect as the aesthetic level of what they create. Some people think Crisco and sugar is better then butter cream because that is what they grew up eating. If you are new to the Cake Box please pay no attention to these idiotic reviews. The Cake Box has the BEST cakes and cupcakes in the entire country. If you want Fudgie the Whale for a kiddie party, look elsewhere. read more

I love Swoon. The plaza it is located in has a large gathering of wonderful local stores, and both the individuals and the products Swoon brings to Copps Hill are invaluable. I've been gluten-free for 3 years and was ecstatic to find a place I can have my pick of anything in the display case. There is a wonderful selection of so many different desserts. The menu changes daily, are always fresh baked, and each item is approached with creativity and enthusiasm. Many of the baked goods are made with almond flower giving them a complex, savory and unique flavor usually missing from all baked goods and especially gluten free! The textures of the cake items are perfect--- there is no discrepancy from a typical cupcake and year of Swoon (which is one of the most difficult things to achieve with GF baking. Please try this place. It is a joy to walk into-- all the employees are happy to help and there are always tons of samples to see what you may like the best. Sadly, their customer service is not on par with the taste of their cupcakes. I paid in full for 30 cupcakes for my daughter's 16th bday on Monday, April 11. The guy at the Westport shop told me that they were not open on Sunday or Monday. I said I could get them in Ridgefield on Sunday, he said they were not open there on sunday either... He then suggested that I should choose cupcakes with no cream cheese to keep them from spoiling, and pick them up on Saturday night before 6pm. They would wrap them in plastic and they would be fine for Monday.... Of course 6pm came and went, as I work in retail, and I never got a reminder to come pick them up. I got there at 6:10 and found them closed. NO phone call when you are about to close and see 30 perishable cupcakes un-picked up??? No call??? why ask for my phone number then????? I called the Ridgefield shop on Sunday, and came to find out that they are OPEN in Ridgefield on Sunday's...UGH!!! Just bad customer service all around. And don't even get me started on the apathetic teen behind the counter there. AWFUL. read more
