I love the cake shop! Everything I have had here has been amazing. The lady (I'm assuming owner) who runs the place is so sweet and you can tell cares about her customers and making cake. The shop is very cute and the cake tasted high quality especially for the price point - it was more affordable than I was expecting and it made I'm happy to support a local business. I will be back! I recommend the whiskey caramel to start but all the flavors have been great! read more

I have ordered two cakes from here. I like that you can customize your cake however you want and someone drew design while ordering to ensure that it was as I wanted. I was able to sample cake when placing order. The cakes had great flavor, moist but a little pricey. read more

There's been a few times where I've stopped at half price books or uptown cheapskate and thought I want a slice of cake or a cupcake, but I felt a little afraid to step in. I am here to let you know, step on it. I think they should put a cake by the slice or cupcakes outside if they already haven't. It's everything, moist, soft and delicious. Great customer service too! Our wedding cakes were pieces of art, not just beautiful but deliciously moist!~ Company was very easy to work with, explained the prices clearly, my wedding planner even commented that their rates were more than reasonable.. We had a 300 person wedding and they were able to accommodate within our budget by making sheet cakes in addition to the main cakes. I gave them a picture of my dream cake for my red roses and gold candle wedding and they made it identical! So pleased with the communication, beautiful cake, ease of business and taste! We went with the Mexican chocolate for grooms cake and the Whiskey Caramel filling for our main cake. Couldn't be happier! read more

I came here because the staff posted on Facebook that they sell individual slices of cake daily. Well, your girl could use a piece of cake because it was a rough week, so I was intrigued. The shop is small so don't go inside thinking you are going to sit around and hang out. I arrived shortly before closing so they only had a limited amount of stuff available. I still left with two slices of cake and two cupcakes. You can check them out in the picture. I was afraid they would be dry because of their size, but the cake was really good, and the prices were very fair. I am happy I stopped by here to check it out. We have been ordering from the cake shop for about 3 years now and decided to order a 6 inch German Chocolate cake for my mom's birthday. I told them just a regular German Chocolate cake, nothing special, we normally go all out. I wasn't asked about border colors or color of the lettering on the cake. I assumed it would just be a small round cake with the German Chocolate frosting and "happy birthday, mom" on it. I had a family member pick it up for me before they closed and I'm really disappointed with the way it looks. Black lettering and border seems odd for a German Chocolate cake. I would have been fine with a brown border. It will be eaten no matter what it looks like but a little upset about spending $50 for this. read more

We recently discovered Too Good to Go and The Cake Shop popped up on our radar as having goodies they were selling off for the day. Paid about 6 bucks on the app and walked away with half a dozen cupcakes during our designated pickup time. Service was quick and super friendly and the bakery smelled pretty good. I was very impressed with how beautiful my daughter's custom cake turned out! I provided them with a Pinterest photo and they made the cake look identical to the photo (the Pop-It pieces are real white chocolate). The cake was a hit, my daughter was trying to press the pop it pieces bc it looked so real I almost gave it five stars but gave four because I did think the frosting was way way too sweet. And I'm someone who loves sweets and will hardly ever say that. But the cake itself was good and I'd recommend them for anyone who is prioritizing a job well done on a custom decorative cake. read more

I never noticed this little bakery in Huebner Oaks shopping area, but I'm so glad I stopped in! They offer wedding cakes and bigger cakes, but on the right side fridge were all the selections for single handmade cupcakes. The icing was perfectly whipped and delicious. I told her I wanted to try something new and described what I liked, and she put me on Italian Cream Cake. Please stop in for a little treat for yourself! So worth it! read more

The negative reviews are highly confusing for me - perhaps they have replaced staff, because we are blown away with this company! We first met the husband & wife lair at a bridal extravaganza. They greeted us with a big smile and "congratulations" on our engagement. When we tried their cakes, we couldn't stop talking about how airy and moist the cake. weren't pushy or negative about other cake companies, but did give us advice. They told us to pay attention to how our mouth felt after eating cakes at other booths. There was definitely a oily "film" feeling after tasting the other frostings. We signed a contract at the bridal extravaganza and began exchanging communication with an employee. We just went in for our wedding tasting & design meeting and were very pleased. We got to try three different cake types, three different fillings & three different icings. All of the icings & fillings were on a plate so we got to mix and match different flavors to find our perfect fit. My fiancé and I had the same top two flavors, but there was one in particular he really liked, but I wasn't a fan. The worker suggested doing two layers of the flavor combo we both liked and a small top layer of the one he liked. The price was super affordable as well. I won't name the price here since it will vary for others based on the size and design of the cake. I will say, however, the price we will pay for our 3 tier wedding cake was a shock to both of us - we were expecting to pay significantly more given the quality of the cake and the care they put into their baking! We will 100% be back for baby showers, birthdays, etc. any time we have a need for a cake. We love The Cake Shop! After getting so many wonderful too good to go bags, I ordered a cake for my upcoming birthday. This is without a doubt one of the best custom cakes I've ordered! I got an almond cake with almond buttercream and Nutella filling. The cake was moist and had a wonderful flavor! Filling was pure Nutella goodness! The whole thing was light and sweet! The decoration was perfect and fit the theme and inspiration pictures so nicely! I will definitely be back for more cakes and too good to go bags! read more

Unfortunately we ordered gender reveal cupcakes and during our reveal we discovered they forgot the filling (which reveals the gender). They were very quick to refund our money upon us informing them of the situation (hence the 2 stars) but there's no fixing that & our reveal was ruined. The cupcakes were pretty, but were also more blue (and purple) than blue and pink on top. I wouldn't recommend doing any type of gender reveal order through them. Although I am sure their other cakes are probably fine, I've had better luck with H‑E‑B! read more

You can tell their ingredients are fresh (their fruit fillings and strawberry cake/icing are bursting with REAL fruit flavor). I've ordered several dozen cupcakes for a party from here and everyone loved EVERY flavor. Not even one cupcake was left. Extremely reasonable pricing, as well. Just had my family pick up 24 cupcakes for my daughter's first birthday and they said it was...$72!! Are you kidding me?!! I'm beyond floored at the cost and the look (they're just regular cupcakes). We could've made double the amount of cupcakes ourselves for a fraction of the price. Not only that, they're on the smaller side. What makes them cost so much? I'm at a loss for words. To top it off, they put a golden phallic looking #1 on top of one of the cupcakes. This is such a joke! Will not only not recommend this place, I'll actively implore people to go elsewhere. Extremely unhappy with my daughters birthday cake. Decoration was good but the cake was an absolute a disaster. The cake crumble at the time that was being slice. I will say that the ingredients used are not a good quality. I went to this location only because was closed to my house. The note at the bottom of the invoice states that "If anything is wrong with the cake, you must bring back the ENTIRE CAKE". Also says, "Once the cake has left the shop, we are not responsible. So, are we suppose to slice the cake right there to see if is correct? This company has poor quality but the design looks great and the customer service is not any better. read more

I was planning a friend's baby shower long distance and from the beginning Katie was very helpful by sending me a list of things they offered, prices for everything and also helped me figure out amount needed for the number of guests. She even arranged for a tasting and my friend's husband (who is very picky) was super impressed and told me he loved everything and wanted to eat more! They provided transportation the day of the event and everything was exactly as ordered. Dessert table looked beautiful with the cake and mini desserts and guests loved it. We went with a 3-tier naked cake almond flavor with Nutella filling, and had tres leches shots, s'mores shots and cake pops. So impressed with presentation, flavor and cost! My family and I needed to find a cake shop to make a specialty cake for my sisters birthday FAST! We came across "The Cake Shop" online and noticed it wasn't far from where we lived. They're nestled in a strip located in the esteemed Strand at Huebner Oaks. The owner was very nice and got everything in the cake correct. I ordered half strawberry/half vanilla with raspberry filling. I was just kind of trying something different. It was just the right amount of sweetness and filling. It was soft and delicious. The fondant was really good. They were fighting over it. Everyone kept asking me where I got the cake. I was like I tried a new place that I took a chance on. Glad I did!!! If you communicate to them what you want, don't leave anything out, and listen to them tell you what they can or cannot do then you should be fine. Cake slice Review: Today was my birthday and my boyfriend decided to attempt to surprise with my favorite slice of cake. My favorite cake would be tres leches cause I enjoy very moist cake. I had 2 bites of my cake and told my boyfriend I was disappointed and he could finish it. He did not finish it. He said he should have just gotten the HEB tres leches and I completely agree. The meal is spent looking down and hoping my beloved or other guests don't see the schmear up to my nose. By the end, we are having to reconstruct our bagel, as it looks like roadkill on the table. It is not a user error, as we eat slowly and carefully. I even have friends who refuse to come back here because it was the messiest eating experience of their lives. It's so unbelievably messy. We have to rinse off in their bathroom before leaving. I have to take my rings off and put my hair up. It's a commitment, one we are not strong enough to make at this point. We also ordered the fresh spring roll, which never came but wasn't missed except that they did try to charge us for but did remove them. They definitely have some work to make this a comfortable dining experience but I wouldn't let it stop you from trying some phenomenal Vietnamese food.

I'm incredibly disappointed with my experience. The red cake I received was sloppy, ugly, and not worth the price for the simple design I requested. I provided clear inspiration photos (blue and pink cakes) in person with three weeks' notice. When I placed the order, I specifically asked if the design was doable, and they assured me it was within their skill set. To make matters worse, I received a call that the cake was ready a day early. I asked for a photo to be sent to me, but no photo was ever sent. When I arrived the next day--on the day I absolutely needed the cake--I was shocked by the poor quality and lack of effort put into the design. I had clearly told them that today was the latest I could pick up the cake, yet I was left with no choice but to take this low-quality cake with me because I didn't have time for alternatives. When I expressed my concerns, the manager, Kate, dismissed me entirely. She condescending stated, "You could have asked for a photo to be sent to you," which I had already done. Then she said, "We don't guarantee designs," which was infuriating, considering that when I placed my order, they confidently assured me they could execute the design and even bragged about handling harder, more elegant cakes. This entire experience--from the lack of communication to the poor customer service and subpar product--was incredibly frustrating and disappointing. I had to leave with a cake I wasn't happy with and still pay for such low quality. I would not recommend this bakery to anyone. read more

First the front desk lady was very rood when we ask for pricing she said for quince we needed to set an appointment so we did we were exited sense we always watch CAKE BOSS we figure it would be a great deal but short of a good experience we found our selves in a trust issue with the owner they demanded a deposit up front in a form of a $250 check for the cake base they said it was only in case something happen to the base so we give them a check which was not going to be cashed without our knowledge well guess what one month later we got the check clear the bank so we called and ask why they cashed the check and they said it was because they never got their base back so i ask why they dint call the following business day to ask about it we understood they were going to pick up the base the same way they deliver the cake and they say well we keep calling and no answer we told them we never got the messages and we would known if they call the same way we did when they first were calling to collect payment for the schedule cake I just wish they were as persistent as they were to close on the cake deal if any body had the same experience please post it. read more

I recently attended a wedding where the wedding cake was SO delicious and moist! When i asked my friend, the bride, where she got the cake from i was somewhat surprised to hear it came from The Cake Shop. Last year i ordered a cake and was not impressed. After trying this cake i decided to give them another chance. Last Wednesday i went and picked up a last minute cake for a dinner i was going too and this time they hit it out of the park!! The cake was VERY flavorful and everyone at the dinner loved it. It was hard for me to choose which cake i wanted. I will definitely be going back to try other options. New ownership is doing a phenomenal job, everyone deserves a second chance. read more

Worst experience ever! DO NOT do business here!! There are plenty other good cake shops in SA. Their "finest ingredients" come in a box.. yet they still charge an arm & a leg for their "gourmet" cakes! If something is wrong with your cake when you pick it up, they will turn it back on you & make it seem like your problem! Do yourself a favor & look them up on the Better Business Bureau website before you decide to do business with these people. You'll see what I'm talking about... They will not get a good review from me! In a panic and desperate motion, my wife called and agreed to have them make an 80th birthday cake for my mom with a week to go. That night i found out how much they wanted ($350). I informed my wife to call the next morning and cancel. (this morning) They informed her that there are no refunds.....with still days to go?
