We received numerous compliments during our wedding and even after the wedding from our guests on how delicious the cake was! We had a 3 tier (each tier was symmetrical & proportional) buttercream cake with 2 different flavors, passionfruit (hers) and raspberry truffle (his). We sent pictures of how we wanted the buttercream texture to look and they executed it very well! The details of the flowers were carefully done and exactly how we envisioned, maybe even better! Delivery also went smoothly. They were very considerate and even contacted our venue and wedding coordinator beforehand to discuss the best way to get our cake setup without interrupting our wedding since we chose a 7:30pm delivery time. I got my wedding cake here after tasting a friends birthday cake a few years back. It was that good and made me want to come back, for my special day. I got a mocha cream filling with yellow/chocolate cake layer, dressed in beautiful buttercream, topped with fondant bow and fresh flowers (that part was done by my caterer). Service was nice, very helpful. They allowed me to see my cake the day before the wedding to assure me that it's done and all, and gave me the cell phone of the driver who will be delivering my cake. My cake was so well received that two of my friends got their wedding cakes there after tasting mine. And the price, so very reasonable! It's much cheaper than a lot of the other bakeries that tasted not as good (*cough cough* the one next door). I will definitely go back and get more cakes for birthdays and whenever. read more

The woman I dealt with confirming the order was so pleasant to work with and she went out of her way to ensure we were getting the cake we expected. As for the inside of the cake it was only OK, the chocolate/raspberry was way better than the white/strawberry but still disappointing that a cake so pretty didn't taste that great. The cost seemed inflated (because it's from Burlingame?). I am not a fan of cake typically but needed to pick something up for a birthday. I had done some research on prices at other nearby bakeries, so when I came here and saw the prices were slightly less or on par and that the Yelp reviews were good, I went for it. The cake was surprisingly delicious. The texture was not dense at all, which is usually my issue with other cakes. The layers of frosting were moderate, not piled on like other places. I'll definitely come back again when the occasion arises. The only thing less than great was the older woman who helped me when I first came in. She seemed put off by my questions, as I was asking her which cakes were which flavor. Workmates took me by this store. Whenever I want pastries now..this is the only store I buy it from. You gotta try "THE CAKERY" pastry's. I believe it was the peach cobbler/pastry that I tried twice (Huge star shaped pastry with baked on fruit filling of your choice). Can't get over it. The pastry was flaky and crunchy and buttery to the taste. Literally melted in my mouth. Best pastry I've ever tasted. I live approximately 20 mins drive to this store, yet I'd drive there everytime I want a pastry coz its definately worth it the drive!. We had set up cake tasting appointments with both bakeries but by far The Cakery had BETTER customer service and the sample cakes were fresh and moist and presentation was pleasing! We had a four tiered square wedding cake, each layer a different flavor of our choosing. And it was absolutely delicious! And we were able to choose the design of our cake. I had liked two of their designs that I saw in their book that we decided to have both designs incorporated together, each alternating layer and it looked just as beautiful as in their book!! My daughter and I are HUGE fans of the princess cake here. So good! You can buy it by the slice or get a whole cake. They did a great job on her birthday cake too...very reasonably priced and pretty. This is my third time ordering a cake from Cakery, and I was just as happy as all the other times with their quality and service. I went in to the Cakery and met with Maria, who is awesome by the way! She listened to what I like and what I didn't like as far as taste, and she worked with me to modify a cake design from a picture, to still give me what I wanted but in a more inexpensive way. She prepared a taste testing for me, and instructed the bakers to modify the recipe just enough to suit my taste. She replied promptly to all my emails, and was on top of it, the whole time. She was courteous and friendly, as well as professional and knowledgeable. The cake was a centerpiece for sure! We got lots of compliments from our guests, and even more when they tasted the cake. They all wanted to know where we purchased it from. And some people even admitted to having two slices, because it was that good. Some guests even took some slices home with them! The Cakery has been, and will continue to be, my go to for cakes. However I must give my feedback, since I have been ordering the same cake for over 19 years. Swedish Princess cake... picked up Saturday and had this afternoon. I felt like it had more whip cream and less fruit and custard, than usual. While it was delicious, even cutting into it, it was a lot less firm than it once it was. Also the writing was so thin it could barely be read by the 80 year old recipient. I realize the bakers may not be the same, but others that were familiar with the bakery and their staple cake, agreed that it seemed like it had far too much whip cream. read more

LOVE their Opera cake. This one is hard to find, but if you are true cake lover, you know what I'm talking about. It is a special order though, so make sure you plan ahead. And in general, their cakes are great if you order them ahead of time. If you are in hurry and get something from display, chances are it won't be as fresh. One thing that annoyed me though (and there's one star off for that) every time I would call in to place an order, if someone other than owner picks up the phone, they just don't know what I'm talking about when I say Opera cake, they always put me on hold to double check. Don't get me wrong but I have been a loyal customer to Cakery for years. Not only me but all my relatives as well. This was the last time I order from them. Their cakes are tasty, but the one star rating is strictly for their customer service. I ordered a huge 100 dollar cake for a birthday in November. It was nicely decorated and perfect. I ordered the same exact cake for another birthday in Feb and the quality of decor and writing was ugly. Not like the one we had before. I expect if we are paying that much money for a cake it should be decorated at least. They wrote with needle thin writing and decorated a few swirlies on the side with that same thin line. As the cake before was immensely decorated to comply with that price range of a cake. What really ticked me off is that we were on the phone with the lady for an HOUR!! She said we can re-do it for you next week. REALLY??? B/c the party is tonight. The lady that worked there gave so much attitude over the phone I was furious by the end of the arguing. I was offering to drive the cake back to the cakery to fix the decor, but no she couldn't. I left my number for the owner or manager to call me back and no response. Hilmar, the owner/baker, started baking in German in he's early teens, and Rob, he's business partner and fellow baker, has been a local baker for years, so you know you're getting high quality stuff when you order a cake from the Cakery. My bridal shower cake was purchased here, red velvet (my favorite). This time, we walked in and there was one person waiting on a customer. I really wanted a cupcake, so we waited. The line was practically out the door, but i was not leaving without purchasing red velvet. They boxed it up, and even though it was a hot day, it made it all the way home (with the help of a lunch cooler i had in the car). First of all, I need to thank Maria and her team at The Cakery for making our amazing wedding cake! Our wedding was at the Marriott SFO Waterfront in Burlingame. The wedding package included a wedding cake from The Cakery. I had never been to the bakery before and boy have I been missing out! From the very beginning, everyone at the bakery was very easy to talk to and very accommodating. We walked in to schedule a cake tasting and they set up an appointment with us right away. We chose the four flavors we wanted to try. When we came for the tasting, the mini cakes looked so cute and tasted so good! Maria came out and sat with us during the tasting. Since there was only one flavor out of the four we chose that we really liked, Maria said to choose a few more flavors to try and come back for another tasting because she wanted us to be able to try all the flavors we were interested in. She wanted to make sure our wedding cake was really what we wanted. We ended up tasting one additional flavor and decided on the white cake with passion fruit filling and buttercream frosting. We wanted a simple design on the cake so I showed Maria a picture and they made it exactly how we wanted it! It was simple yet sophisticated and elegant! The cake was DELICIOUS and we got a lot of compliments from our guests. The cake was not too sweet and it was not dry at all. Since we had leftover cake, we took it home. A week later, we were still eating the cake and it was still moist! Since I've never been to The Cakery before, I tried some of their other pastries and they are to die for! The raspberry twists and passion fruit mousse!!! Yum! They're also known for their princess cake! one star for a clean nice looking environment. but that's it. i came her with my fiancee and mom to do a cake tasting/consultation. when we arrived, i was surprised to find that our small cake pieces were already boxed and waiting for us. goodness knows how long they were sitting in the box.... we were asked if we wanted to taste them there or take them home. we opted to taste there since it'd be helpful to actually talk to a person if we had questions. the cakes were dry and bland. the fillings looked and tasted like jam out of a jar. quite disappointing. we tried the devil's food cake and yellow sponge cake with mango filling, raspberry filling, and mocha mousse. the mocha was pretty good, but combined with the dry cake... not so much. after we tasted the cake, we waited around for a good 15-20 mins for someone to come talk to us. im not sure if it's normal practice for them to not introduce themselves... regarding Cali L's review about her frozen wedding cake, i decided to ask when the cake would be made. the woman said the cakes were made the day before- they would come in at 10pm the night before and make the cake. YEAH RIGHT! no one, and i mean NO ONE does that. even the ace of cakes makes his days before. it would take way more than one night for the cake to be baked, cooled, frosted and decorated. needless to say, i don't like being lied to, so im not going with them. read more
