There aren't many options in the town of Holbrook but this a good no-frills one! About a mile off the route 66 exit, you can get some American or Mexican options. The chicken enchilada with rice and beans tasted more authentic than the meal I had in Flagstaff. The chicken tasted homemade in a good way and not dry surprisingly. The chili relleno was also a good option because it wasn't spicy and had just enough dough. Very affordable compared to a lot of the overpriced touristy places. They had a strange drivethru on the side of the building and also had a little store selling ponchos. The service also was fine. I'm glad we decided to come here instead of Burger King or Denny's! read more

Stopped here for breakfast on 3/13/2023. Food was mostly great - oatmeal, waffles, bacon, had browns, and pancakes as big as waffles were all excellent. The only fail were the scrambled eggs - more like a dry omelette gone bad. Service was good but can be a little slow when busy, but not bad. Prices were also excellent. Do not pass on this small somewhat hidden gem. We would definitely go back and recommend to anyone wanting a good breakfast. read more

Stopped for a quick lunch. I ordered a club sandwich with onion rings and my husband ordered a bacon cheese burger with fries. We also had salsa and chips. The salsa and chips were great. Burger mediocre, club had minimal meat and it was mostly bread. The bacon on both the burger and club was over cooked and black. Bathroom wasn't the cleanest and only 1 stall. This is in response to idiot/prig, Christian L. from New York. First of all, Camaleón is spelled correctly in Spanish. That's like complaining about the spelling of Piccola Cucina of New York because piccola and cucina are not words found in the English dictionary. Go back to the land of Mayor De Blasio and Governor Cuomo and spare us the "everything west and south of the Hudson is a cultural wasteland attitude". For a tiny village in the middle of nowhere, how refreshing it was to find this friendly and delicious restaurant. I couldn't believe the quality of the roast beef, gravy, potatoes, fries. Our waitress couldn't have been friendlier. This no pretense (unlike Lord Christian L.) restaurant was such a surprise with really tasty food and sweet, caring service. I suggest that Holbrook does as Florida wisely did and force New Yorkers to quarantine themselves for two weeks before entering. This visit was my first time here. We were instantly greeted and able to seat ourselves. Our server was quick with bringing our drinks and taking our order. The food was made quickly and I'd say we were out within 30-40 minutes of arriving due to the quick service. The "Sunset margarita" was great, although I'd recommend using sugar for the rim instead of salt and stirring a bit as the sweet syrup was at the bottom of the glass. We ordered: an open face burger with green chili and fries, a green chili chicken chimichanga, & water to drink. The food was fantastic and full of flavor! No leftovers were taken. This cafe not only has excellent food, the owners are excellent people! My husband and I were driving from Oklahoma City to Flagstaff when we stopped for lunch here. The food was delicious, and the service was superb! In our rush to get back on the road, I left my sunglasses there. Since we were not going back that way, I called and asked if they could mail my sunglasses to me and I would pay for the shipping. The owner said that he would ship them and no payment on my part is required. He didn't have to do that. It was a true act of kindness! A good mom and pop breakfast location. I had chorizo and eggs with corn tortillas. It also came with a small portion of refried beans and unfrozen potatoes - a good thing! Also ordered was carni asada and eggs with corn tortillas. We asked for green and red sauce so we could compare. Refried beans would have been nice. The red sauce seems to be enchilada sauce. The green was tastier with a little kick. For drinks, we both had fresh brewed ice tea. The ouch was the price at $3.29 each. Grand total before tax: $$29.06. Menu is mainly standard American food, emphasis on anything fried. Another part of the menu is for Mexican food. The Mexican food is typical inexpensive fare, do not expect groundbreaking flavor profiles or unique authentic takes on the cuisine. The Chile relleno was decent, with flavored rice and half a plate worth of refried beans. Plenty of food. The cheese crisps were like a fried cheese pizza. A bit too greasy for my liking. Recommend just sticking with the basics. Place is decent enough given that it's a small town. Service is fast and courteous and the restaurant is clean. read more

My husband ordered the all you can eat spaghetti and I ordered 2 Tostada. My husband finished his spaghetti and wanted an other plate. I had the ask the other waitress so she called our waitress. She told my husband that she needed his plate to put more food on it. Don't she know that she shouldn't do that. Contaminated new cook food with a plate that someone ate off. We were pleased to find this nice sit down restaurant open for dining in here in Holbrook. Problems we found... 4 in our party seated originally at a table for 3. If it were not for a gracious party of three offering to switch us tables, the servers were offering an extra chair. Looking around they could've easily put us at any other table of 4 without violating the social distancing rule. Once seated the waitress took our drink order. ( no introduction or offering of a special or soup of the day, heaven forbid would she even introduce herself to add to a great visit. We've been coming to this place for their amazing tacos for three years .... we drive a truck and stop whenever passing by. We even change our route to get here when we can. Unfortunately, that ended tonight. We could see into the kitchen when the cook put food onto the plates with BARE HANDS. We watched as they rubbed their arms, hair, face, and handle sorts of other things after handling our food. They did not have sanitary hands handling food. We spoke to a manager and he basically told us to pound sand because that's how they roll. He raised his voice after my wife, nearly in tears, told him how disappointed she was that she could not eat at a place with bare hand food handling. He raised his voice and said "all these locals don't care". We cannot imagine what happens behind the curtains if that is his argument. We informed him we will ne complaining to health department and telling all the people we had been cheering to .... that they are gross handling food. I am absolutely stunned. Food may be good, but staphylococcus lives and breeds on skin and hair. Got no use for stomach staph. read more

I will rate each category 0 to 5 stars with 0 as the lowest rating and 5 the highest rating, followed by an overall rating. 1. Ease of Getting to the Restaurant. Off I-40. Although we used the map to find it, it was very easy to find. 5 stars. 2. Parking. There is sufficient parking, but there are no designated handicapped parking spaces that we could find. The parking lot is easy to get in and out. 4 stars. 3. Appearance of Restaurant. It is nothing impressive inside and out; but, tables, floors and counters were clean! Many not-so-good-looking restaurants have the best food, and I am more particular about the cleanliness, food quality, and service, rather than it looking like an upscale Beverly Hills restaurant. 5 stars. 4. Friendliness of staff. We were immediately greeted by two servers and told to sit anywhere we would like. Both servers said someone would be with us shortly, and someone was. She took our drink orders and quickly returned with them. Very large glasses, too. Then she took our dinner order. 5 stars. 5. Speed of Order. We received our food within about 15 minutes. 6. Accuracy of Order. We ordered a chili relleno dinner plate, one ala cart cheese enchilada and a corn muffin. Everything was brought out. 7. Quality of Food. This is where it went downhill. I can usually cut my enchilada with a fork. This enchilada was super thin, hardly any cheese. I had to use a fork and knife and still couldn't cut thru it. I only took one bite. It was hard and nauseatingly chewy and I had to tear a piece off it to try it. I had to ask for the muffin to be warmed up and I asked for butter. The chili relleno plate was just okay, nothing special. The chips and salsa was okay. The salsa was tomato purée; not a minced veggie in sight. We were quite disappointed. 0 star for the enchilada, 1 star for the salsa, 3 stars for the corn muffin, and 3 stars for the chili relleno plate. 1 star. 8. Bathrooms. We did not use the bathrooms. No rating. Overall rating 2 stars. Although other areas were 5 stars, quality of food trumps all else. If it's not palatable, why bother? We would NOT stop here again. read more

We were staying at the campground next-door and this was the only place within walking distance. It was a little sketch looking from the outside but we gave it a try. We were not disappointed!
