Chicken was fresh and simple. From-scratch mashed potatoes were smothered in homemade country gravy. Also splurged on a well recommended chocolate milkshake! Service was 10/10. This place is awesome... they refunded the mistake I apparently made over tipping $10... no big deal but my credit card company caught it and asked me if it was fraud... of course it wasn't all I did was call them and they rectified the situation!y wife and I had stopped by for coffee being campers next door at the KOA. The two coffees came to just under the $5 minimum required for credit card transactions.. I added an order of has browns and left a $11 tip ... I meant it to be only $1... anyways they were right on it when I called them about it... the coffee was great and the hash browns were heavenly... looked like a really cool place right on historic Route 66... next time we will definitely have a full meal there...thanks Tomas!! Perfectly serviceable joint in the middle of nowhere. I dropped in on the way from Petrified Forest to Meteor Crater, and my chicken guacamole sandwich was better than it had any right to be. The price point was more than fair, the service was prompt (we were in and out in less than 45 minutes), portions were substantial, and it wasn't crowded. Burgers looked delicious as well. My husband and I loved this restaurant for breakfast! We had the chicken fried steak, eggs, hash browns, and pancakes all for 9.99. It was a steal and so delicious. It gives a great hometown feel with lots of locals who frequent the establishment. They are social distancing tables and masking on the move for COVID-19. read more

We were staying at the KOA RV Park nearby and this restaurant was in walking distance. We inquired at the RV Park office and they highly recommended The Camaleon for dinner. We were not disappointed. The Mexican food was good. I got the combo fried basket with chicken strips, fried shrimp and fried fish with tator tots. They were good. The iced tea was exceptional and it came in crushed ice. Nice! If you are passing through, we recommend it for dinner. They invited us back for breakfast too. The only reason I did not give a 5 star rating is because my husband asked for the 3 taco dinner and the cook would not allow him to have one taco of each type of meat. He had to chose. This little diner is little gem. You can get breakfast, lunch or dinner any time of day. It's truck stop style of grub with a green chile gravy my husband and I both got on the side. It was mild enough to add a little heat to the meal. I had the chicken fried steak and it was crispy beneath the gravy. First when I entered it took them almost 10 minutes to seat us and in that time I told them 5 times we had 4 people and they still tried putting us at a 3 seat table asking if we wanted an extra chair... they did not offer any specials or even introduce herself at all... the dinner was amazing but the pie came out like a train wreck and tasted like it was made with Jam... she never once asked if we wanted refilles on our drinks and did not take any plates off our tables till after we were served dessert... my 9 year old had to ask her name just to get that.... read more

Just passing through and am disappointed I listened to all the positive reviews I saw written about this restaurant. The restaurant and bathroom especially were dirty and grungy. I ordered the grilled chicken salad, which was a mistake: iceberg lettuce with a half a tomato, 2 slices of cucumber, 3 broccoli florets, canned sliced black olives, and store bought shredded cheese. I basically ended up eating the grilled chicken and just a few bites of the lettuce and tomatoes. My husband had a guacamole burger with tater tots which he said was "good". And my friend ordered the patty melt with green chile tater tots. She said it was mediocre at best. The server was nice and the prices were cheap. If you do come here, I'd say just go with a burger, otherwise there is a A&W down the street. read more

This review is based on this experience only as we visited this restaurant a few years ago and thought it was great. We were disappointed in two things. First, our server neglected us and while we were waiting to have our order taken (the restaurant was NOT full), others were seated and served. Another server came by and noticed we hadn't been helped. Well...that did it for our server. When reminded about us, she begrudgingly took our order and then snapped at my hubby when she asked if we needed anything else and he mentioned the biscuits and gravy that were supposed to arrive with our order. He is a very kind person, so her reaction was surprising. She never brought our check, so we went to the counter to pay which apparently made her look bad because she had to be asked again by the other server, and she became even more rude. Second thing...PLEASE get the flies under control!! We spent our whole time shooing them from our table and food. It made me wonder how many people were served food that flies were sitting on prior to it being brought to their tables. read more

"All You Can Eat Fish" was meh. No seasonings, no flavor, thin pieces of fish, extra crunchy. Fries super hot (which I love) BUT no salt. Coleslaw was room temp, so I passed after the first bite. 3 shredded beef tacos were good. The plate comes with beans and rice which were ok. Also came with chips and salsa which we really liked the salsa. Lots of flavor, no heat. The place is small, friendly and busy. I was expecting just Mexican food but was surprised to find breakfast, burgers, shakes, soup, BBQ sandwiches and a few Mexican selections. I ordered a breakfast burrito which was good, especially the salsa. Two of my sons and husband had burgers. They were gone in short order. One had ordered the guacamole burger. That was a favorite. My other son had bacon, eggs and hashbrowns. Eggs were perfect, bacon crispy. Our waitress was new (she forgot an appetizer but food came out so quickly there really was no need for one!) but very friendly. We finished up with strawberry shakes which we watched her make.
