Horrible. My friend and I had the Generous Pour, more like the Cheap Pour. I have done this the last 15 years, my friend his first time. Pours were 3 ounces vs a normal 5 ounce glass of wine. Laura, the Manager came to us and corrected this. We finished dinner and Paul someone else came and cut us off. We actually felt threatened. Paul said my friend did not know where he was sitting and was cutting us off because of this. My friend's first time here. We were fine. Generous Pour doesn't mean Limited Pour and a time limit. We didn't have a reservation, however arriving on a Saturday early evening there was no issue getting a table. Every staff member from the hostess to the manager were just so lovely and made us feel welcomed. The wine list offers a nice variety of by the glass options as well as bottles. We need to start by showing some love to the bread basket. This is the best bread basket I've seen in a long time. An onion bread, pumpernickel, everything roll and large crackers were all exceptional, served with a wonderful perfectly soft butter. We started off with the crab cocktail which was served with a lovely creamy Dijon dipping sauce. The lump crab was so succulent and delicious. The ribeye was cooked to a flawless medium and seasoned to perfection and was just delectable. The. NY strip au poirve was also fantastic. Again cooked perfectly and the sauce was excellent. The side dishes can easily feed 3-4 people, so we had leftovers. The roasted mushrooms were savory and excellent, as was the potato au gratin. I'd visited with a group of friends for an early dinner on a Friday evening. We ordered macaroni and cheese for appetizer and oh my, it was so cheesy and tasty. Most definitely the best macaroni and cheese I had in a while and definitely shareable. For entree, I had salmon served with some greens. I had lunch here with some colleagues, and the location couldn't be more convenient--right inside the MetLife building. I highly recommend making a reservation. The meal started on a high note with complimentary bread and butter. The butter was incredibly creamy! For the appetizer, we had the pan-fried calamari with hot cherry peppers--crispy, flavorful, and with just the right amount of heat. My favorite item on the menu! For my main course, I went with the pan-seared salmon, swapping the couscous for creamed spinach. The salmon was cooked to a perfect medium, though the spinach was just okay--I've had better. Started off with a bread basket with a nice variety of bread-- bread was warm, favorite was the onion focaccia (could eat an entire basket of that alone!). I especially loved that you could see into the kitchen, it reminded me of Hell's Kitchen. I came here last summer for the Endless Pour event, where they offer you six wines to try as you go through the courses. And never doubt the ability for wine to do it's THING, definitely a creeper. My friend and I tried the crab cakes (the sauce for the crab cakes were to DIE for), and the lobster mac and cheese (the breadcrumbs added the perfect touch). For my entree, I got the Sea Bass. To die for, it melts in your mouth and it was delicious. The waitress was very warm and helpful, as she assisted us with what wines would go best for what we were eating. I came here on a Thursday night for a presentation. Our group was seated in a private room. Service was nice and well paced. Our servers were great as well and very accommodating and friendly. We stated out with the field greens salad which was way too much lettuce and the portion was absolutely giant but at least it was dressed well. Afterwards, they brought out the bread basket. All of the breads were nice and warm and paired nicely with the slab of butter they had which was delicious. For my main, I ordered the salmon which was well cooked and came with a nice sauce . My only complaint is that the greens underneath it got absolutely covered in oil so they were not that delicious. However, the sides of mashed potatoes and creamed spinach it came with were great and very flavorful. Finally, for dessert I got an espresso chocolate cake which was delicious and had such a nice flavor. It really rounded out the meal nicely. All in all, though Capital Grille is a pretty common sight in Midtown I do have to say that I quite enjoyed my meal here and this has to be one of my favorite Capital Grilles so far in the city. read more

Came here to celebrate family and holidays with a gathering of 21 in an intimate private room. Our server, Michael, was extremely friendly and managed the room with perfection. Glad to see that he got some help later on serving the main course and desserts. Having to juggle all the drinks and coffee/tea orders is usually enough to keep one server busy but add the food orders and he definitely had his hands full BUT he handled it with efficiency and a big smile. So 5 stars for Michael! For starters, 3 out of the 4 tables had a seafood tower. The remaining table was the non-shellfish table which had a bacon wrapped cheese ball, steak crostini and veggie platter. Very yummy. Appetizers were choice of wedge salad or fresh greens. Prosciutto wrapped mozzarella and fried calamari. Nice crust and not greasy! No complaints. Main courses were a hit! Filet mignon, sea bass, bone-in Kona crusted NY strip and porcini crusted bone-in ribeye. All cooked to perfection and healthy portions! It was so delicious and many couldn't finish the meal. Lastly it was time for desserts and each table got a sample with 3 items - cheese cake, chocolate fudge cake and an apple cream pie. Sooo good! Perfect meal at a perfect place with perfect service!!! I found myself at The Capital Grille for an educational dinner. Steakhouses are tried and true favorites for these types of events, which has led me to patron almost all of the major chains. That being said, it was only a matter of time before I ended up at CG. I've actually been to the CG in Greenwich for pleasure, and out of all the steakhouse chains I've been to it's one of my favorites. While I had passed this location multiple times, I've never dined here - so I was looking forward to their offerings. The interior of this CG is typical of other locations as well as other steakhouses in general: upscale finishes, wood tones playing against a dark color scheme, and an overall masculine aesthetic. We were seated in a private room where those aesthetics continued - overall the decor looked great. Like many of these dinners I've been to, the menu was prix fixe - we were given a mixed green salad to start and flourless chocolate cake for dessert. For our main, we had a choice of steak, chicken and salmon - I went against type and ordered salmon. To complement the entrees, we were given sides of mashed potatoes and creamed spinach. The salad and dessert were standard - both were good but nothing too outstanding. I was impressed with the salmon - it had a glaze on it that didn't overpower the fish, and overall had a great flavor. The sides were really tasty too - both the potatoes and the spinach were creamy without being too rich, and went well with the meal. Service was good - food came out at a good pace and everyone was friendly. One thing I found strange was that our bread basket was taken away once our main was served - not sure if that was intentional but it would have been nice to have it kept on the table in case we wanted more carbs - especially in light of the fact that there was still bread in it. It's a minute misstep however compared to the service as a whole. Overall, I had a good experience at Capital Grille and would have no qualms returning to this location. read more

Only a review for the drinks. We walked in on a Friday after work and the bar is what I imagine a financial district hotel bar to be like. Seems like it caters to the business crowd. Nothing wrong with that, especially if that's what you are looking for. We ordered 4 different drinks and they were all fine. I got the Stoli Doli and it's a decent twist on a martini. Someone ordered a margarita and it was only ok, seemed like very tequila heavy and missing some other ingredients (or it was very unbalanced). Another person got the espresso martini on the cocktail menu, and we wouldn't recommend that overall. Kind of lacking in many aspects. Petrit, our server, was THE best, truly provided a service, very courteous and professional throughout. Then came the food, perfect as well. The porcini rubbed ribeye with 15 year aged balsamic was perfectly cooked and paired with the brussel sprouts, an explosion of flavor.
