We stopped for dinner. Lobster rolls, fries and a beer was fantastic! Fish and chips great too. I believe the lobster roll was a decent price as it was loaded with lobster meat! Evidently we were not welcome here. I hate to think racial. We sat a good 20 minutes at table waiting on a bartender to wait on us. The hostess kept going to the bar telling them we were ready to order. 3 bartenders. Finally get drinks, no coasters, straws, nothing. We sat again waiting to reorder. That was out the question. let me disambiguate: there is the Captain Kidd Bar- and the Captian Kidd Restaurant. the drinking establishment is a fine old pub where everyone is welcome and happy, and many drunken scientists can be encountered. the restaurant I give less stars: like too WH restaurants, is overly-posh for a little sea-side spot. Beautiful place to sit outside, and the food is good, you just have the faint feeling that its trying to be something that it is not. read more

I was not very impressed with Captain Kidd. It has a nice deck on the water, but the food is really so so at best. No refills on soft drinks, and they charge over $2 for 8 oz of soda. So I think I rather take my business to the Landfall next time when I am in Woods Hole. read more

Awful, awful service. I'm normally not a harsh critic, however, in a near empty restaurant and with four servers and two hosts just hanging out behind the bar, our appetizers took 40 minutes. Not to mention the 15 minutes before someone even came to greet us/take our order. Om a separate occasion, our drinks took 30 minutes. The bartender apologized saying he forgot, which may have been excusable if he hadn't then charged full price for the drinks. Food is okay but very overpriced. Do not waste your time here. read more

Great atmosphere and history in the place... The bar tender is a super nice guy and has been with them for a long time and was a great source of information to satisfy my wife's and my curiosity. We just had lunch here and it was a pretty bad experience. Initially we waited 5 at the door with no one offering to seat us. We finally were seated after I went to the longer to inquire about seating. Service was alright at first. The beer I asked for wasn't available. We asked for 3 waters and were only brought one with our drinks. I ordered chowder which wasn't brought out under our lunch was. Then we weren't given silverware or napkins. Had to wait several minutes for those after we asked. Waitress had an attitude after this, rather than being overly nice to make up for her shortcomings thus far. Expected to sit on the Tavern side, but ended up on the Restaurant side. Good thing too, as the menu was much more our style. Outdoor seating is protected by a clear curtain, with views of the docks. If it wasn't so gloomy, I bet the view would have been fantastic. Service was really friendly, and just prompt enough. Did I crash a Greek Wedding? It certainly sounded like it with the number of plates tumbling to the floor all evening. This was a strange dining experience to say the least. It started with the hostess telling groups coming in that the wait was 45 minutes for both inside and outside dining. There were clearly multiple tables wide open. After 20 minutes she realized that she made a mistake. The next faux pas was a server unsure if there was dressing on our salad. The salad went back and forth in a state of confusion. Finally re-arriving for a third time with dressing. Another server arrived with entrees. Two members of our group ordered steak frites. "who ordered the medium steak?" My father raised his hand. "Who ordered the well done?" My boyfriend responded with "I ordered rare." "Oh well then this is medium and that is rare" she said pointing to the steak in front of my father. The "medium" was clearly overdone. My father asked for a glass of Chardonnay which was forgotten about until he asked a second time. When we got the bill it turned out that it was a $14 glass of wine! The fish and chips I ordered were rubbery. On the plus side, the corn bread was good and my beer was cold. We paid way too much for this meal. read more

Captain Kidd has a terrific location. You should request dock dining if it's warm enough. The interior is also very nice, using what appears to be salvaged wood. Be careful when ordering Starters. They are LARGE. We ordered 4 and needed maybe 2.5. The tempura green beans weren't great and the accompanying aoli had no taste whatsoever. The cod tacos were really delicious. My husband and I visited Woods Hole and was delighted by The Captain Kidd! We were referred by a friend who grew up in the area. The ambiance and service were excellent. We sat out on their back deck in the lounge area to relax, have some drinks, and good conversation. They have really nice couches with plush seating overlooking the harbor side. They placed a heater close to us due to the cool Cape Cod breeze which was a nice touch. Their playlist was nice, a good mix perfect for the lounge. The food was great, we tried the clam cakes and their wonton special. We enjoyed both! The drinks were perfect, well shaken with some nice shots. They didn't rush us out, (hate that) and the server was very pleasant. If you are in Woods Hole, give The Captain Kidd a chance, they won't disappoint.Thank you very much, we will certainly be back. read more

I've been put out of better places for better reasons. If I could give negative stars I would. The waitress was in such a rush, that we could hardly finish a sentence. They gave one of our appetizers to another table on the opposite side of the room because they "assumed" we were together because they also had black people at their table. (Common so we let that slide even made a joke). My food came out cold. And then they were upset because our waitress continued to be rude by snatching my half eaten dessert off the table, so we tipped accordingly. The manager told us not to return (like that was even an option) after the three of us had spent almost $200 in the restaurant. If your looking for bad service, come here! read more

Sometimes change is not good, it can be horrendous. We have been coming here since the Falmouth Road Race was "an infant". We have enjoyed and supported Captain Kidds through hurricanes , renovations, their ups and downs! We have gathered on the dock for many dinners and have many memories from time spent at the great bar and playing pinball. Well last night we walked in and everything had changed..decor, menu and SERVICE or maybe I should say " lack of service". Gone were the friendly bartenders, gone was the comfortable, authentic Woods Hole traditional decor and gone was Customer Service. I am and have been Vegan for over 30 years. I NEVER have problems eating out and had never encountered problems at Captain Kiidd's, until last night. I ordered a salad, their VEGAN black bean soup and grilled asparagus. My friend ordered an entree and a side order. Well people came, ate and left. We sat waiting. The bartender ( we were seated at the bar) never updated us on our meals and when questioned she continuously replied that she put everything in. It was busy but not overly busy. No excuses. My friend's entree arrived, cold and nothing for me. His side never arrived and no one seemed to know what happened to my salad, soup (which was on their menu) and asparagus. My friend's side never arrived. Since no one seemed to know anything, I told them to cancel my entire order. NO APPOLOGIES OFFERED, the bill came and they not only charged for both our drinks and my friend's entree, but also INCLUDED HIS SIDE ORDER WHICH WAS NEVER SERVED. No one thought to offer a complimentary drink and remove my cocktail considering the circumstances. No APPOLOGIES and not an once of good business practice. Not a single answer was offered to my questions. I guess all good things must come to an end. None of us will ever return to this establishment. I have already told my running friends that we don't have to travel to Woods Hole any longer after the SUMMER AND FALL RACES. Too bad....sad! read more

I went for a late lunch this past weekend. The renovation looks nice and inviting. I ordered a raw bar platter and was told that they were out of oysters. Disappointing, but they added extra littlenecks and shrimp. The food was alright. My bill came to a total of $25.00 for the raw bar plate with a dollar or so for tax. I had a beer which was mistakenly put on my friend's bill. I paid the bill with a $5 tip since the waitress was very friendly if a bit slow. Today, I look at my bank account online and see a charge for $114.49 from the Captain Kidd. Completely unacceptable. I called the restaurant but they are closed so I'll try to deal with this through my bank until I can get through to a manager. read more

For some reason they've renovated, changed their menu, did away with bar food and in doing so did away with the only remaining authentic woods hole bar. The new food is OK, but too overpriced to warrant any real loyalty. My wife and I visited this place last weekend and what a huge DISAPPOINTMENT!!! The server brought out the wrong dish twice and then my wife wanted a dinner roll with her meal and the server said, "sure, but that is going to cost you and extra $1" are you serious? On a $40 entree, the folks at The Captain Kidd cannot push the boat out for a dinner roll that was requested by a guest? The seafood was not fresh nor tasty ...the whole lunch experience was piss poor and we will never return. Poor service Poor food Why go? Went for dinner last night. Food was great, but I see why they don't get higher marks. They could easily raise their ratings with minor tweaks to the recipes, at least the dishes we had. My brother had the coconut scallops with mango salsa. The scallops were deep fried, which it didn't state in the description, really would've elevated the dish if they were sauteed instead. The mango "salsa" was not traditional, but was really fantastic when eaten with the baby kale and thin sliced brussel sprouts that were with it. I would almost serve it regularly as a side, or develop it more and make it into a very different cole slaw. My husband and I had the fire grilled halibut. The fish was super fresh and delicious, but the sauce over powered the fish a bit. It was also very spicy, which I love, but I think there would be a lot of people that wouldn't be able to tolerate so much heat. All in all, we had a great meal and the atmosphere is really nice, both inside and outside dining. Still one of my favorite places in the falmouth area. Would've given more stars if those recipes were tweaked just a bit. Forgot to mention that our server, Kat, was also extremely nice and very attentive. read more

Unimpressed from the start, wanted to sit by water, waitress told us we could not sit there even though a few minutes after they sat us several tables opened up by water. Bar area dark and dank. we asked for a different table, waitstaff were clearly annoyed by this and were staring and talking about us. Menu small and overpriced. Cocktails way overpriced. Waitress had iPhone in pocket ringing an looking at it. Manager? At bar eating and drinking while seating people, dressed in pajamas. Decided not to eat here stayed for one round drinks. $42.00!!!! We tried to sit on the Restaraunt side which has water deck seating, it's only good feature. I was seated for 5 seconds when the very inexperienced young waitress spilled 2 drinks down my back. We are local not tourist and have given the Restaraunt side a dozen or more tries over the 30 years we have been here and have always been disappointed. Service is always bad, food is hit or miss. Take the word of a local, go somewhere else. Fish mongers and Landfall are great choices. read more

We went to Captain Kidd's restaurant expecting a quick lunch, but came away with quite a bit more. The clam chowder was very good, but my wife and I had only a cup instead of a full bowl so as not to ruin our appetites. My Reuben was quite good, evoking memories of a New York deli, without the crowds and with a view of the pond. My wife had a Blackened Swordfish sandwich, moist but not greasy, and tastefully seasoned. All in all, instead of a quick bite, we came away with the first of many excellent dining experiences during our weekend getaway. read more

We loved this place. Took a chance by staying near the Ferry to Martha's Vineyard & although the food options were limited, we were drawn to this place. Best meal we had on our 4 day vacation. I had the flat iron steak with blue cheese & it was incredible. It paired so fantastic with the Pico & Vine cabernet. My boyfriend had the halibut with chili agave sauce & he has been raving about it. I don't like fish at all but it was delicious. (Fish at Iowa restaurants tastes different!) My mom, grandma and I ate here for a quick lunch before getting on the ferry to Martha's. We were pretty boring and all ordered the chicken salad salad - it was a salad with scoops of chicken salad and a raspberry dressing. The chicken salad was very good and you got two huge scoops. The dressing was also very good, but was very sweet - I had to stop eating the lettuce with the dressing and focus on just the chicken salad at the end because it was too rich. Overall it was good. The atmoshere looked nice (we sat in the room overlooking the water) but the seats weren't very comfortable and the acoustics didn't really allow you to hear who you're with because of all of the other conversations floating around in the room. The server was friendly but more occupied with a larger party. read more

I like the decor here, a lot. It is just fun and a little goofy. I also like that they have Murphy's but not Guiness on tap. It is quirky, and I like it. Cash only? So what. How else are the summer douche-bags going to impress their douchettes? A couple of hundreds just look so much better than a plastic card, playuh! Rode our bikes out to Woods Hole via the Shining Sea Bikeway and made a stop here for lunch. They have a nice little area out back that is covered and sits by the water which provides a nice view of the boats coming by and Cape Cop scenery in general. I got the Captain's Platter, which included a bunch of different fries seafood, which I ended up liking. The little round chunks (I have no idea what they area since I'm not a seafood eater!) were delicious and I had wished that I'd gotten a plate full of just those! My friend got the crab salad/roll that she had been craving all day and enjoyed it. Service was okay, I'm knocking a star down for that because there were times when our drinks were sitting there empty and the wait-staff seemed standing around talking, but that would not stop me from recommending this place. The atmosphere of the Captain Kidd is awesome. Boat gear tastefully on the wall, the marble long handrail, kegs as seats in some areas... The energy is awesome. I've been here both on a hot summer night and a cold winter's day with snow on the ground... It's a nice warm spot to conclude a night. The seafood also kicks the butt of the seafood found out where I am from, Seattle. They also keep Anchor Steam on tap along with some other good beers. It still gets 5 stars, but except for the long bar it's more of a group sit down place at night; maybe I am used to "don't disturb my bubble" philosophy of Seattle, but I found it difficult to meet others there. read more

We were thoroughly pleased with our experience here. 5 of us for dinner and we all left very satisfied. The decor was very nice and even though we were seated inside, there are great outside dining options available. Pitchers of beer that left us all have about 2 pints, fish tacos were great, as well as the fish and chips. I'd definitely go here again! read more
