I took a group of friends to the Captain Kidd yesterday to enjoy the Cape Cod experience. You cannot beat the decor and the ambience of this place. It's worth stopping in just for that. Ellie was our server, and though she was young, she was quite personable and clearly well-trained. Everyone was happy with their food: chowder, Caesar salad, lobster roll, fish tacos, turkey club. The habanero bloody Mary was a hit. We didn't have to ask for anything. It was a very pleasant experience and my friend's lobster roll looked fantastic. First the good -- great spot, nice area, beautiful porch, inside has a lot of character, and the service was polite, and efficient. Now the bad -- The drink sucked (pineapple mojito), tasted like almost no booze at all. The lobster salad ($30) tasted bad. Seemed like the lobster was old, fishy smelling. I was extremely disappointed with my experience and laws left with a bad taste. My family and I (7 adults) had a late diner (8pm) to celebrate our vacation. The mussels had been recommended to us and they didn't disappoint and the mixed drinks were tasty. However, the other dishes were unspectacular. But what most disappointed me was that when I asked for cocktail sauce for my fried clam diner (the clams were stringy and no worth the expense) the waitress came back to inform me that they had run out of cocktail sauce since it was late. Apparently the kitchen couldn't be bothered to mix together some small amount of ketchup and horseradish for a customer. My family embarrasses easily so I didn't say anything until leaving when I did express my disappointment to the waitress after paying my bill. She just turned her back on me and walked away. on my way out, The bartender asked how my dinner was and I told him as well that I was pissed about the kitchen not being willing to make a little cocktail sauce. Came to this place because it was the only place that was open on the day we went out for lunch. It was actually a lot better than I thought it would be. It's a cool bar and restaurant located right next to the marine biology laboratory. There's a deck area behind the restaurant that's covered so it's nice when it's cold outside. We ordered a few things to share. The lobster roll was market price at $24 and actually pretty big and good. It comes on a toasted bun that's probably double the size of a hotdog bun. There's lettuce and some sort of mayo sauce. We also ordered the seafood platter which includes fried shrimp, scallops, cod, and squid. It was lightly battered so you can still taste the flavors of the individual seafoods. The fish was soft and flaky. The friends that came with it was fried just perfectly, not too soggy or over crunchy. It was $29. We also ordered fish tacos. It came with two large tacos with a large piece of fried cod with cole slaw. The tortillas were lightly toasted for a slight crunch. And the sauce was amazing. The fish tacos were $15. The service was ok. It was a little slow and took a little bit of time to get our food and drinks, but overall not terrible. This is a cool place to go if you want good food and watch sports at the same time. read more

This resto has it all goin on. Our waitress was so, so sweet and the young man brought our app & dinner hot to the table. We had fried oysters and lazy man 's lobstah. Both were delish. Even the veggies were fab. Perfectly cooked, slender fresh asparagus and tasty fingerling potatoes. The sauce was so luscious, I sopped it up in bread. Didn't eat here at all, but did come here for drinks one night when I was in town. Really big interior, tons of room for drinks or meals - but also a stunning back dock. Extremely disappointed. We were looking for someplace different to try while waiting for the boat to MV. We arrived around 645pm and sat at the bar. We ordered a bottle of wine, a couple of oysters/shrimp, Caesar salad and fried calamari. The oysters and shrimp came out within 10 minutes. A little while later the bar tender apologized that the kitchen was backed up and the food was taking longer than usual. No problem, we still had over an hour so we weren't in a hurry. Finally at 8pm we said we were probably going to need to take our food to go because we had to get to the ferry. We were then informed that the kitchen was closed and everyone had gone home!!! What??? Are you kidding me?? Oh and the credit card machine is down so you will need to pay cash. At least they were "generous" enough to comp us on our 2 oysters and 2 cocktail shrimp. What a joke! They should have comped our wine too! Ended up grabbing sandwiches at Pie in the Sky (not what we wanted but we're thankful they were still open!) we will stick with the old standby the Landfall from now on when we have extra time (never disappoints) or Pie in the Sky read more

I've eaten here twice in the past year and both times the service, ambiance, and food was great. I went here once in July and once in January and both times was able to get a table for lunch without a reservation and no wait time! (Although it was much more crowded in July as you can imagine.) And both times we were able to get tables with views of the water which is gorgeous! I love that they offer a heated deck option in the winter. I loved their clam chowder - perfect amount and not too filling for an appetizer. I think they have generous lunch portions for all of their dishes so you definitely get your money's worth of food! My only reason for giving 4 stars versus 5 stars is that I dined both times with a vegetarian who didn't find a lot of options on the menu. Since this is one of the only restaurants open in January in the area, it would be great to have some more opps for vegetarians. I am not a vegetarian so I had no complaints for dinner options and I highly recommend any of the fresh fish options. The lobster roll is particularly yummy. They also have their own Captain Kidd root beer which was the perfect nonalcoholic drink for the lunch dishes. I didn't dine with any children but I saw plenty of families there with kids. They had crayons and food options for kids so this is definitely a family friendly place! read more

Food is outstanding: a solid 4 out of 5. Their kale salad is probably the best salad I've ever had. Kale, Brussel sprouts, cabbage, Almond Slices, Shredded Parm, and Avocado Lime dressing.... Sounds so simple but the texture and mouth feel associated with this salad just made it beyond outstanding. I was similarly impressed by the mussels. I've had their mussels 4 times and each time, I've thought this. Just be warned: order extra bread to ensure you can take advantage of the marinade, which begs to be soaked up by some carby goodness. My dining companion and I also feasted on the fish tacos (got them steamed) and loved them as well. We also ordered the fish "special," which was a pecan maple crusted cod stuffed with lemon butter. Basically, it was our divine dessert. We also shared an outstanding bottle of wine. We ended up getting a red blend by Josh. Also a pleasant surprise- great bottle at a fair price point. ($42). All that food and it came out to about $100- this place is very fairly priced! Other highlights included the great service from our friendly waiter Rich and the amazing outdoor views. Great lunch stop at Woods Hole! Beautiful setting and view out in the covered patio! Decently priced menu. Our Bloody Mary could be a lil but more flavorful (my friend started dousing salt on hers ... maybe add salt to the rim ?). No complaints on any of the appetizers we ordered! We wanted to sit outside near the water and have a nice view. That was the main reason we chose this restaurant when we were in Woods Hole. The atmosphere looks pretty inviting in that it has a nice nautical feel. The service was ok. Nothing wonderful or bad. I ordered the Grilled Ahi Tuna Sandwich which had seaweed on top. It was a creative combination and it tasted pretty good. My husband ordered the Homemade Lobster Salad. He said it tasted kinda ok. And about a half hour after we left, until the rest of the day, he was nauseous. It was very pricey for all that. I do have to add, though, that they have a homebrew ale, a style called cask-conditioned, that I just loved. I would go back for that drink. read more

The restaurant is not handicapped accessible. The bathroom is located up 3 steps. When a family member asked if they had an accessible bathroom the hostess was dismissive and said no and went back to folding napkins. The family member struggled getting up the steps and a fellow diner offered because they hostess refused. We were seated at a very small table in the corner despite multiple open tables that offered more space. I asked to be moved and the manager told me all tables were reserved, I reminded her we too had a reservation. Having a disabled or elderly party member seemed to be an issue. Good is good but honestly, the staff is not helpful or welcoming. Servers were very nice snd knowledgeable about gluten free items. read more

We had an amazing experience here last year. We have dreamed about coming back to visit since. We arrived yesterday and honestly it felt like a totally different restaurant. The hostess were very nice and we enjoyed sitting in the back room by the wood stove. Our server was Andrea and her service was greatly lacking. She never cracked a smile, wasn't friendly at all, and actually made us feel like we were inconveniencing her. I honestly was waiting on her to roll her eyes. We came back for the quahog fritters and were sad to hear they took them off the menu. We did try the quahog cake and it was excellent. All of our food was good but the experience and atmosphere was much less than the experience we had here the first time. We look forward to trying a new place on our next visit to Woods Hole. ***We received a coupon notification upon checking in here on Yelp. When we tried to use the coupon Andrea had to take it to her manager because she had never seen it before. This place is absolutely gorgeous. Perfect Cape Cod feel! We walked in and felt immersed in the small town culture. FRIDAY NIGHT 8/21 Earlier we had ordered take out for 12 to be picked up at 6:00. We got there on time and the two hostess had no idea what was going on. Then we asked the bartender for some information on our food and our food wasn't even ready. The place was almost empty so it isn't like they had a full board and were in the middle of a huge push. 20 min later I ask for the manager and tell them it's kinda ridiculous that we ordered at least an hour ago and had a pick up time set so that we could just take the food and leave because it had already been paid for earlier. He was extremely rude and sloppily dressed so I got a little irritated. To his surprise the food came out we got it and went home. 5 min walk home and by the time we got home the food was very cold except for one dish. It was all gross food anyhow but the cold doesn't help. I want this place to turn around because of its great view and awesome feel but with food like that and staff who are clueless, rude and sloppy I don't think it will. They need to do something. Side note: The outside doesn't look as appealing as the inside, if they could change the outside to draw attention I think they'd get more business. read more

Here with Rebecca tonight, and what a superb seating spot I got us here. Simple dinner but a perfect spot here in Woods Hole. We had a young server that was all about us enjoying our time together with just the right amount of conversation from him. We had a glass of white wine and the Whales Tale beer from Nantucket which was indeed most welcome, though I do hate that they provided so little from the area really, and too much 'standard' fare. I mean who really needs ANY Budweiser??? The simple meals included perfectly cooked burgers and chicken, nothing too crazy here really. We say on the lounge or bar side. We were able to get a seat out on the deck. The view was great. Very new England small port with lots of boats. We started with the calamari. It was delicious although a little small for the cost. I would have expected more. The cup of lobster bisque was great. Lots of flavor and lobster! My son loved it and kept on asking for some. This night there was also a band playing light quiet music. A def plus to the experience. Dinner however needed a little help. I ordered the chick sandwich and my wife ordered the lazy man's lobster. My dinner came out without the dry rub and slaw. I tried my wife's and it was good but lacked seasoning. Upon the server asking about my meal, she apologized for the mistake and the kitchen made me a new plate. The exec chef also came out to apologize. The hand cut fries were also great but again I think had little to no salt and pepper. Overall we had a nice experience. This was the only restaurant available to go to on a Tuesday evening in September. We sat outside on their back deck overlooking the water which was very comfortable. We had the skillet shrimp, lobster bisque, mussels and scallops. The scallops and mussels were great. The skillet shrimp was tasty but nothing special and a bit expensive. The lobster bisque was way too creamy and not good. Overall service was great and the entrees made up for the appetizers. Strong drinks. read more
