Yesterday after work I called to inquire about a 2007 Honda Civic. I talked to Shane, the owner. He said the car was still available. I went down there and walked the lot. I found it quickly. It was unlocked so I was able to sit in it and inspect it closely. Shane and another sales associate were inside the building. They both greeted me and welcomed me to the store. He got the keys for me and let me take it for a test drive. Upon return I decided to purchase the car. I had been looking EVERYWHERE for a affordable Honda Civic in good condition. I needed a car. I found one online and to get prices, i submitted my email. The next morning I got a call from the Car Store asking if I was interested in the car. As i had just had a bad experience driving an hour and a half away for a car and upon getting there finding out that they closed early, I was not keen to driving out to San Jose if it wasn't serious. Upon telling this story I was told the best news ever, that they were willing to bring the car out to me for test drives and would even let me rent it for a few days if i needed to. They came to my complex and we signed papers on the hood! As far as their partnerships with the banks on loans, they were all over making sure that if one bank didn't work, they would find me one that did and they nailed it on the first try. A great used car shopping experience. Saw ads for a minivan we're interested in on Craigslist and eBay. A little searching brought me to the dealer's website, where I found a great discription of the minivan and dozens of photos. Made the trip to San Leandro and was hesitant as the dealership is an old gas station that shares its building with several service shops. And the collection of cars was a big jumble. But the salesman, Marcin Witko, was fantastic. He showed us the minivan and explained its history, then walked away so that we could explore and discuss the features. When I said I wanted to come back in a few days to take the car for an independent inspection, he encouraged me to just leave our car with him and take the minivan. When we returned with the minivan, we told Marcin that we decided not to purchase the minivan because it was missing a few parts and was due for some new tires, which are very expensive. And the wife was reluctant to give up her "wonderful" Camry. His reaction was sadness and disappointment. But he politely discussed the Out the Door price and said that he'd work with us about the new tires. And the Out the Door figures had no "junk fees"! When he returned our car, he had his crew wash and wipe it down! Honestly, words cannot express how at ease I was when talking with the people here. Butch makes you feel like he's an old friend you're catching back up with, and he doesn't try to play any games with you -- tell him what your budget is and he'll immediately match you with available cars. Having gone to other lots, I was ready to hear the usual excuse with why a car is the way it is or how "that sound you hear will go away after five minutes." With Butch, what you see is what you get, and you're looking at a goldmine. The service was also top notch! No one likes having to sign and read long paperwork, but he makes sure to keep it entertaining with conversations about his life and family while making jokes here and there. This place was great! I had some reservations because I don't typically buy cars from small used car lots. We were searching for a car for my 16-year-old daughter's first car. We found the car we were looking for at this lot. It can seem like searching for a needle in a haystack when you know what you want. This was the place that had exactly the car we were looking for. This is my first yelp entry and I always think of writing reviews but always end up forgetting, but this place is worthy of an honest review. I had been to a couple other places on this same street and both of those dealerships were high pressure and made me uneasy/uncomfortable. I expected this, but the pressure tactic made me feel like giving up. How is anyone supposed to commit to a car purchase in less than half an hour? The last place I decided to stop at was The Car Store. At the age of eighteen I feel under the circumstances had I been in an inappropriate situation I could have easily been taken advantage of with the sale of this car. I didn't know the right questions to ask, and to be honest I didn't really know what I was looking for. The two guys who helped me were easygoing. It made me feel relaxed. I was interested in a car but was skeptical that it may have underlying issues. They were so genuine on the quality of their used car that they allowed me to take the car for several days free of charge to get it checked out by my personal mechanic, who is in Santa Cruz. I honestly think that is what had made the largest impact of the sale. Does every used car dealership do this? They also set me up with Patelco credit union for my car loan, with an amazingly low interest rate. I have had the car under my name for nearly three years and it has given me zero problems. I want to say the best thing about this small dealership was their laid back trustworthy attitudes. I remember them distinctively. Genuine people who seemingly want to sell good quality cars. Super helpful, and all really great people! We've now bought several cars from them, and it's always been totally painless!

Just got the title for the car we bought in early March so except for getting the actual sale documents our long strange trip of buying a car from The Car Store has finally reached its end. It all started with buying a VW Passat from them back in October 2019 which pretty much died a couple months later. Originally I was very angry at getting sold a worthless piece of junk and wrote a since deleted negative review. But not wanting to be out the money I had spent and because these guys have great reviews I reached out to them to see what recourse I had. They had me bring the car back for their mechanic to evaluate which confirmed the repair cost would be well in excess of the car's value. Butch offered to let us return the car and get full credit towards another one. And he offered to let us drive it for 30 days before finalizing the deal. We got the replacement car evaluated and it needed a major repair so we were able to negotiate to get that done as part of the purchase price. Butch again said to drive it for a couple weeks to make sure things were ok. The only problem was that now the airbag warning light was on but do to a family emergency Butch had closed down so it took several more weeks to get the car back in to get that problem fixed which involved another wait for the parts to be available. Certainly not Butch's fault but frustrating all the same we'd been in and out trying to get the deal done on the replacement car since January. Then because literally what else could go wrong, the printer for the sale documents crapped out so we didn't get those at the time and now thanks to the pandemic shutdown who knows when we will get them At least we got the title in the mail so we know it was processed. So long story short, it took a while but these guys stood behind their product and ultimately we got a decent car at a fair price. read more

I've always felt alone when I was buying a car. Like there's so many unknowns, and no one else to help. Sound familiar to you too? Well, this time was a fantastic exception. Buying a used car is typically a tricky affair, it's impossible to look into every nook and cranny and know everything there is to know about a car with years of history behind the wheel. Cory and Shane went above and beyond to do the best job possible of having me feel like we were in the process together. First off, there was no BS when it came to pricing. When I found some stuff that could be fixed, we knocked down the price fairly and accordingly. When I had questions about what I was signing, Cory explained each and every one. And then, when I drove the car off the lot and found a couple things that we had ALL missed when I was looking, they helped support me (AFTER I HAD ALREADY BOUGHT THE CAR!!!) with the offer to bring it to their mechanic, and to take care of whatever I needed to make sure that I had a car on the road that I was happy to be driving. This was definitely above and beyond. For the next couple weeks I drove it and checked with local mechanics to make sure it was all good, and the whole time, I felt like Cory and Shane were business partners instead of car sellers. In the end, they helped me pay for some further diagnostics to make sure that everything on my car was as solid as could be. So ya, buying a used car is always going to be a bit of an adventure, no doubt. With these two, I felt taken care of, heard, and joined in the process. If i can give this place a 10 stars I would. I have been in search of a new ride for a few weeks now. I have dealt with Craigslist crooks to dusty dealerships trying to milk as much money as possible out of you . After weeks of searching I came across this car dealership, after reading the yelp reviews i decided to give this place a call. I spoke with Shane (who is very customer oriented) we laid down all of the needs on my end and requirements on their end. And hour later I come to the lot was greeted by friendly staff. Saw a great price on a 2005 Ford Taurus, and from then on I was hooked. Shane, the owner, made the experience worthwhile. Shane accommodated us by speeding up the paperwork so that after the test drive was done, we spent just another 30 minutes in the store. After an exhaustive search to replace my vintage Corolla Wagon, destroyed in an accident in front of my house, I had given up hope of finding a replacement. Overall, I'm impressed from the service my family received at The Car Store. We got a 2003 Volvo for only $4,000! It runs very efficiently, and for its size and model- it is a VERY good price. The workers at The Car Store, are extremely kind, very honest, and down to earth. If a car is not in good condition, they will definitely not recommend it for you. I spotted their add for a Subaru Outback on Craigslist. What a beautiful car... I had to go see it immediately. The guys here are amazing photographers, THE very best! They really know how to make the subject look better than it is. I recommend they try wedding photography, the results are amazing. For instance, the way they took that photo from the driver side with the door open and how they avoided showing the 3 huge holes on the seat, or the way he angled the camera just so you could not see that 8" rip with foam coming out through the fabric on the backrest. The rear quarter panel, where they tried to buff out the damage that only a blind man would miss was not at all the focus of their photo shoot. Simply artistic! One can only imagine what other talents they may have with regard to other flaws in their cars... functional or cosmetic. I only had to drive 20 minutes to see the car but the salesman said some people were driving all the way from Berkley; I'm sure they were impressed with his photo shoot :( read more

The Car Store is the shadiest used car dealership I have ever had the misfortune of working with. Save you time, frustration and money and go somewhere else, there are tons of other dealerships on this street. I bought my car in October 2016, the tabs were expiring in January of 2017. The salesman, Butch, made a distasteful joke about how glad he was that I was buying the car now so that he didn't have to deal with renewing the tabs. He also made some sexist jokes to me and my mother, both of us feminists, that I will not will not repeat here. I almost got up right then and left, but I needed the car and figured at least I wouldn't have to deal with this idiot ever again. How wrong I was. Three months later, my tabs have one week left until they expire. I call The Car Store to see when my registration and title will be arriving as Butch assured me that I would have them before my tabs expired. He said he would go to the DMV that following Monday and handle the situation and I would have them shortly after. Monday came and went I now am driving with expired tabs. I called again and he said it would take 10 days. Two weeks later I called and he still didn't have them, he made some weak excuse about how the DMV was working him over and he couldn't believe how bad they were making him look. He promised he would have them for me the following Monday. A week later I STILL don't have my registration and title, so I call again and he said that he will have someone mail it out the next day. A few days go by and I still don't have it, so I call again and Butch is now blaming his associate who was supposed to mail it to me. I called once a week for going on three months and Butch comes up with a new excuse every time, its actually pretty amazing what he comes up with. I have now had my car for about 6 months and I still do not have my title and registration. I was promised last Thursday that it would be on my doorstep on Friday, here it is now Sunday and I still don't have it. What a surprise... I am astounded by the lack of professionalism at this place. It's truly just baffling. read more

I took a Toyota Tundra 4WD truck for a test drive and wasn't 100% sure I wanted to buy it because it felt kinda big..too big. Shane graciously let me have it for an "extended" test drive and even told me I could take it to my mechanic to look it over. It's a 2004 and had a lot of miles on it so I did just that and Shane was willing to negotiate price and even did some of the minor repairs so I could get the truck I wanted.
