I've been meaning to write this review for awhile now. 2011 Hyundai Elantra. We had issues with the car in 2021 (within the 10 year warranty). The car was shaking, so we brought it to Capitol Hyundai. They replaced some coils under warranty. Next year (outside warranty), the same issue. They said we needed a new engine ($8k). I'm no detective, but that sounds like they put a bandaid on it that lasted long enough to make sure it went past the warranty period. Why ever buy a Hyundai again if the local dealership does shady things so they don't have to honor the warranty. What's a 10 year/100,000 mile warranty worth if it's not honored. We were already in the market for a new car at the time...an Elantra Hyundai. Good price and lots of features. So they made $8k in the very short term. Lost out on $25k+ in the near term. Lost out on all future maintenance and repairs. All that money went to Toyota Sunnyvale instead. Currently, we've been looking at new vehicles to replace a 2014 Mazda, so they lost out on $40k+ and the subsequent maintenance and repairs. Yeah, we're those people who go to the dealerships for maintenance despite the high prices because of peace of mind. The only way we'd ever entertain buying Hyundai again is if they refunded us back the $8k and the money we spent on a rental car while waiting for the engine replacement to be installed. read more

I came in for a recall service appointment and found the front desk staff to be extremely unhelpful. It was frustrating dealing with a team that came across as unprofessional and treat customers in a condescending manner. I overheard one staff member guilt-tripping a customer for wanting to add additional services. There were also instances of staff behaving inappropriately, loud, exaggerated yawning back and forth as a joke, and another employee taking a personal call, referring to their significant other as "honey" while discussing dinner plans. Based off my experience being here for a few hours & there are more moments I can speak about. Be very careful before buying an extended warranty from this dealership. In my opinion, this is one of the worst parts of the car-buying process: warranties that may have a real wholesale cost closer to hundreds of dollars, or around $1,000, are sold to customers for $3,000, $4,000, or even $5,000. Then that amount is rolled into the auto loan, so the customer also pays interest on it for years. In my case, the warranty was sold on a brand-new Hyundai that already had factory warranty coverage, but the overlap was not clearly explained to me. By the time the vehicle reached the mileage where extended protection would actually matter, the warranty had already expired. So the customer pays thousands, finances it with interest, and when the coverage is finally needed in a meaningful way, it is no longer there. We leased a Ioniq 5 from Hong Tran. The entire process was effortless. We got a great deal even better than we thought we could get. Hong was patient and answered all our questions. His follow up was excellent. We also just had our first service. Rolf Wick's communication and follow up was excellent. We will definitely be purchasing or leasing our next Hyundai maybe the Ioniq 9 from Capitol Hyundai. We like our Ioniq way better than the Tesla Model 3 we had. Forgive me Capitol Hyundai for not posting this review sooner. But you are partially to blame since I find myself driving my new Kona from you folks way more than I thought I would. It all started when came in to get my Kona serviced and maybe talk to someone about what options I had when the lease was up. I lucked out and talked to Eric. And when / if you go, ask for him. He listened to what I was looking for then gave me a ton of different options that best fit my needs. Long story short, I got the new Kona N line in denim and never looked back. Talk about upgrade. This car is such a sweet ride. It has all the safety features I look for (and grown to expect from Hyundai) and then got some more on top of that. And don't even get me started on the all other bells and whistles - i.e. the impressive entertainment display. I'm extremely frustrated with the lack of communication and basic customer service from Capitol Hyundai's service department. My vehicle has a seat belt recall because the buckle does not always click into place. I scheduled an appointment last month and called the day before to confirm. I was told they did not have the parts and that I would need to come in so they could check my VIN and then order the parts, I asked why I couldn't provide my VIN over the phone since this is a know recall under warranty, and I was told they couldn't do it that way. I was also told it might be another month before parts were available. I canceled because I was not going to drive out and sit at a dealership just so someone could look at my VIN. I rescheduled for a later date and left a note asking to be contacted if the parts were not in. I never heard back, so I called today to check before keeping the new appointment. That is where things really went downhill. I called the number provided in the email multiple times, waited on hold for long periods, had calls picked up and immediately disconnected, and was repeatedly sent to voicemail. When I finally reached someone through the main number, I was transferred to service, put on hold again, and the call disconnected. Twice. I asked to speak with a supervisor and was placed on hold again, only to end up with a ringing phone that no one answered. After calling yet again, I finally reached a representative who listened, apologized, and confirmed that yes, they do have the parts for the seat belt recall. That was literally the only information I was trying to get. I am giving two stars only because the last representative was polite and helpful. Otherwise, this experience would have been zero stars if that were possible. I have never had such a difficult time getting a simple answer from a dealership. read more

We had a great experience with Capitol Hyundai. First of all, it is big, the sales office is bright, airy and very comfortable. We were greeted once we stepped foot inside, any sales person was happy to assist us no matter how small the task. I called to check for their inventory situation and I could make an appointment immediately for the next 30 minutes. I was early and disrupted the sales person's lunch but he quickly put his food aside and jumped in to help. Hong was the best! Other than the normal discussions about what we are looking for, what type of cars have we experienced before, etc etc, he shared his personal experience with us as it happens that he is also driving that car. He even led us to his own car and let us try out the seating and feeling while our new car was being washed so that we could save some time and made it to our dinner on time. What I liked the most is that Hong had suggestions above and beyond just getting the car. He gave us great tips on tinting the car, where to get the all weather floor mats, and what is the best way to make appointments for services. Once he understood our financial plan for the car, he also gave us great suggestions on how to allocate our capital. All in all, we were in and out in about 3 hours, good efficiency. Both Hong and his manager Billy also followed up after the purchase to make sure we are ok with the car. I also texted Hong about some questions as we tried out the car more and he was always responsive. If he was out, his manager jumped in to fill the void. So my suggestion for Hyundai shoppers, prioritize trying out Capitol Hyundai first. If you can, ask for Hong and you'll be well taken care of! read more

Even though we were excited to purchase a new family vehicle that quickly went south. When we were making the deal we included in our pricing all weather mats. They told us they didn't have them that day but could get them to us 1-3 days. After several texts and emails 2 weeks later gave us only partial mats! When we followed up With them again they said they would check on it. A week later still no information. I reached out once more and the manager texted me back apologizing and said it would be resolved and get me an answer in the AM next day. Long story short no call no text. Very poor customer service. If I could give zero stars I would. I have had nothing but problems with both my Ioniq PHEV AND the service department since we bought the vehicle in 2020. Too long to go into it but my current complaint centers around the entire trunk paint fading. Which I of course went to the dealership LAST YEAR and opened a claim. I have yet to hear back! I have called and called. Left message for the manager of the service department and hearded absolutely nothing back from. Extremely frustrated and upset about my experiences with the service department advisor. Like other reviews mentioned, it's nearly impossible to get ahold of a service advisor. At some point I drove myself down there to get answers since I never got a call or text back the whole day. I got an excuse that they were short staffed. My recent 2 experiences are both the same - can never get ahold of the service advisor, in this case Ken. Funny enough, I have no issues getting in contact with sales. If you're not spending money, they will not care to offer you basic customer service. I'm super upset about my experience today. I waited over 30 minutes for a rental car drop off from Enterprise. I asked Ken if I can go in person there to see the hold up, which he said I could. Imagine my surprise, being told by Enterprise that they never received the request for a rental. The returning leased vehicle process is terrible! The staffs and managers here are irresponsible when taking the returned car. I told them that DMV send us registration form to pay registration fee due one month after this day. They told me that there is nothing left to do after returning the car, but two months later, DMV sent us the penalty for not paying registration fee. I came back and asked Captiol Hyundai. They told me just ignore the penalty. But, when I asked what if DMV kept sending the increased penalty or even it may effect our tax return, the staffs told me it is my responsibility. There is no formal process of returning car. They told me if I have any other questions, I myself need to contact the Hyundai refinancing office. So be careful. I had a very frustrating experience with the service advisor, Jessie. The communication was terrible from start to finish. My text messages were ignored, and I never received any update about when my car would be ready. I waited the entire day with no information. The next day, after more ignored messages, I had to call the dealership myself--only to find out Jessie was off that day. It would have been nice to know that beforehand instead of being left without any response. I asked to speak with a manager, who eventually called back and told me the car was ready for pick-up. When I arrived, no one walked me through the service report. Later, I checked the report myself and saw that the car had actually been serviced at 3:00 PM the previous day, meaning I could have picked it up then if someone had simply communicated with me. The level of disregard for clients is unacceptable. I will be sending a detailed email to the manager in hopes that this helps improve their customer experience. From other reviews, I can see that people have complained about Jessie before, and clearly nothing has changed--she is still not client-oriented and struggles with basic communication. I want to say I am happy with Capital Hyundai. It's the nearest dealership to my home for service and the dealership is nicely remodeled. However: They don't answer the service line and the few times they do, no one speaks to you, they just put you on hold automatically and never return to you. *I've called 5 times today for example. No one from service returns call. Continual follow up calls chasing a service advisor to know status on your call are required. If you have a follow up issue post service; there is no means to contact your advisor or anyone to connect you to a live person. Even have left messages for the service manager and haven't received a return call. Out of desperation, I called sales and they kindly offered to walk a hand written request for call back to the manager of the department... hoping it works. Advisor ignored my statement on the warranty issue with my car, putting the minimum details on the work order, leading to what i believe is unnecessary work and testing. They ignore my statement that i came in for the SAME exact issue months ago. When asked for a loaner, they only would provide me a phone number to call. They don't know anything about how rental reimbursement works. They don't know what the limitations of the rental reimbursement are. They don't have shuttle service in any form. They don't answer the phone. They don't call back unless you repeatedly call them. They eventually completely ignore you if you try to call. They don't have an electronic tracking and notifying system on the status of the repair. The SAME diagnostics that took 6 hours before took 5 days this time. The SAME repair took 1 more day that sounds like a software problem, with unnecessary testing. And now my car smells like swamp. But they correctly identified my wipers needed to be replaced in time for summer and my car is running as intended now read more

Been getting my Santa Fe serviced here for 10yrs and for the most part have had a great experience. 3 years ago the engine died and it was covered by the warranty. Unfortunately within a year the newly installed engine died but that happened in North Carolina. That dealership was awful and don't think they did the best job. Within a months of getting the car back it was making concerning sounds. Luckily I was back in California and the service center found and addressed some loose hoses to the engine. John, the service manager did a great job listening to me complain, then explaining everything and getting me on my way. Something very odd is happening here. I don't think the sales people understand the line between slimy sales tactics and straight illegal business practices. DGDG in San Jose appears to be taking advantage of car buyers by demanding higher down payments and using illegally pulled credit reports to pressure customers into trading in their vehicles, even when no trade-in was mentioned. DGDG offers an online purchasing option where a customer can complete the process and pick up the vehicle at the dealership. I went through this process, entered my Social Security number for both a soft and hard credit check, and received an email confirmation with my payment terms and approval for the down payment I selected. Shortly after, I began receiving texts from different DGDG employees asking if I had a higher down payment or referencing my other vehicle, which they could only have known about from looking at my credit report. When I told them I already had approval and was scheduled to pick up the vehicle, they canceled my pickup, claiming they had no approval from the bank unless I put $4,000 down and traded in my vehicle. This is impossible since my vehicle is upside down, and I was purchasing a second vehicle because we need another one. I sent them screenshots of my approval email, and they responded that it was just an estimate. However, their terms state that a hard credit pull only happens when terms are agreed upon. I now have a hard inquiry on my credit, meaning they either lied to me to pressure me into a larger down payment and trade-in, or they conducted an illegal hard credit pull without my agreement. When I spoke to the salesman, he was rude and dismissive, insisting I wouldn't get the vehicle unless I put $4,000 down and traded in my car, despite my repeated explanations that this wasn't possible. There's something very unethical, and possibly illegal, happening at this dealership. I've attached screenshots and a screen recording showing my online approval, confirmation emails, and texts from DGDG employees trying to extract more money from me. read more

Tried to reach the service department of Capitol Hyundai 7 times--only 1 call went to their automated advertisement to purchase cars on their website and had me on hold for 10 minutes. I gave up trying to reach them. My partner purchased an IONIQ 5 not too long ago and has had his car serviced here and at Stevens Creek. No clue what they do during their service because each time we bring our car in, it comes out with problems!!! We just needed our tires rotated and checked for any recalls. Of the two visits, both required that we bring the car back the next day. Is it not a thing to balance the wheels after rotation? My partners steering wheel and back seats are vibrating like crazy! This seems absurd that we are told our car is good to go and inspected, but as soon as we take it home, we experience a ton of problems. To make things worse, their service center isn't even picking up the phone. We are trying to call them to ask if we can drop off our car for service to be done. Our wheels need to be balanced. I normally wouldn't write a review about a car dealerships. Also, it is worth mentioning that this is not about the car brand specifically. Having said that above, this is really about the surprising purchasing experience i had with this particular dealership and specifically with Eric Wong who was the person assisted me through it all. I have to start by saying that this was one of the best, if not the best, car purchasing experiences i had. Eric was knowledgeable, knew the car in and out, spoke with confidence but in the same time had no problem to admit not knowing when he didn't but did go the extra mile to find out the answer for me. It started with a phone call from me to the dealership looking for a specific car and Eric was super responsive. Took me very seriously and did not dismiss my conversation even after i told him that i am not local to their location, something I've personally noticed and ran into when i spoke to many other salesmen through other dealers. Dismissing my out reach became the expected attitude but NOT this time. A week later, i get to make it out there and i meet Eric. It was very nice and reassuring to see that the man i spoke to on the phone was the same man I met in person. Same positive attitude and willingness to help me get the car that I came all the way to find. Pleasant conversations and interactions we were having while chatting about the choices for the car and in no time we were done and the entire thing might've been the quickest car sale I've been through. Fair is the word for how we worked the numbers and Eric was just super upfront about the deal he was putting together for me. I couldn't argue the sweet deal and the great experience around it. My new car ended up in my garage that evening. Looking back now, i was very impressed with the entire process and with that though in mind, I found myself here on yelp trying to be fair to Capitol Hyundai and Eric. It is only fair to be appreciative for such interaction that could've went the wrong way. Truly TERRIBLE experience working with this dealership. I was interested in leasing an Ioniq 5. Reached out to them and worked out all the numbers over the email and text. The salesman sent me their offered deal over the email. Then I scheduled an appointment and went over there yesterday to finalize the transaction. I decided on the car and did a quick test drive. We went back inside and the salesman went to finalize the number with their manager. Then he came back and they had bumped up the numbers, only for a very stupid reason that inventory is low and we can't grant you the numbers we had communicated earlier. This is unheard of. And the most unprofessional way of doing business. I spent time away from my family on a weekend and actually took an uber ride there (because I was a very serious buyer) and now they are telling me they can't even grant their own numbers. I think you don't want to do business there. I am also reaching out to Hyundai North America customer service to let them know how this dealership is impacting their reputation and I am also going to file a complaint through BBB. My wife and son took his 2015 Hyundai Tucson on 3/31/26 for a repair related to the ac system problem, as the actuated motor from the a/c system failed for fourth time (lemonish of course). By 4/3/26 we hadn't heard a word from the dealership service department, so we call about 5 times but the guys did not answer nor return our messages at all, therefore, my son decided to go in person and ask what the status of the repair was, the associate that assisted him said nothing has been done so far but tomorrow. Today (4/4/26) my son returned and ask again about the status of the vehicle, as my son and wife told them on 3/31/26 they really need the car by saturday fixed or not (my son works in Sacramento). Terrible was to know that the car had been dismantled and left that way and of course it cannot be driven at all. They just lied to my son. They won't fix the car, they only dismantled it in order to charge $318 for the diagnosed that never happened. My son lost one day of work (no pay) and Capitol Hyundai walks away from this trouble in a white horse. I called this a rip off, handled by guys acting more or less as crooks, ruining their customers life, like it is a joyful practice on them. And... is there anything we can do? No, they have the power to do things like this and can get away with it. So far, our car is still a the dealership and not ready to be taken. What is going wrong in America? read more
