We just closed on a new house and had reached out to Barry to help remove the old, stained, glued-down carpet from the garage concrete floor. I have used Barry two times now to patch damaged carpeting from our dog trying to dig under the door to get out. I actually locked the dog accidentally in the room and didn't realize for a couple hours later that he was missing. Too late, damage done. I don't know why he couldn't just bark! Barry did an excellent job of cutting out the bad area and replacing it with extra carpeting I had. He has also fixed carpeting that was improperly laid where it met some tile. He was able to restretch the carpet and glue it down with some special glue. His estimates are fair and I will definitely use him again if needed- or get a new dog. Barry came to my house to repair the edging of old carpet butting up against the tile entryway. After taking a look at what I was asking him to do, he pointed out that inserting a piece of original carpeting adjacent to the worn carpeting would probably not make me happy because of the big difference in coloration. He made several suggestions for affordable alternatives, none of which would earn him a fee, but all of which made more sense than what I had wanted to do. So after driving to my house to do a specific job, he left having convinced me to just buy a small area rug to cover the worn edges. I was incredibly impressed by both his honesty and his thoughtful consideration of options that might address the problem. 5 stars for integrity. 5 stars for problem-solving. 5 stars for friendliness. That's how business should be done! I found this company on yelp, and Barry was quick to respond to my quote request (via yelp's email). With a few back-and-forths he gave me a quote to replace some carpet padding and stretch/re-install some carpeting we had to peel away due to a leak. We booked the work and his son, Cody, called ahead arrived 2 minutes ahead of schedule. Nice start! Cody was very professional, on task, friendly, and generally likable. It was fun to see him do his thing, and I learned a bit by watching him - enough to know that I'm just going to call them if I ever need carpeting repaired or installed again. We originally had Family Carpet & Drape sell and install our carpeting. They were nice and reasonable, but after seeing how Cody installed the padding vs. the job that was done earlier, I see that FCD's installers didn't do such a great job. These guys are great! I love dealing with small companys where the owners really knows their business, loves their work, and are really good at it. These guys win in all three categories. Last year I was hosting a party for about 100 friends, relatives, and business associates and needed to get my carpets in perfect shape. After having them cleaned by another firm I had Barry (Zauss), the owner of The Carpet Repairman, come over, cut out some stained sections, replace them with leftovers, and replace the worn carpeting on one of the staircases. When he was done everything looked brand new and he even took the time to give me a run down on the capet's quality, some maintenance suggestions, and ways of reducing wear. As he was leaving Barry volunteered that they also did cleaning and that he thought that they could do a better job for less than what I had paid. A year later I took him up on his challenge and scheduled them instead of my usual carpet cleaners. Barry, in case you're reading this, your son did an excellent job! He was hardworking and thorough. Best of all, his work backed up your promise. He was on time, it was the best job I've ever had done, and it cost less than my usual carpet cleaning company.
